2. Public Sector
• Defined as: a government organized sector that delivers leisure and
recreation both directly or indirectly and is provided to enforce the idea
of living a healthy lifestyle (Lunn, 2020, p. 3).
• My three examples are:
• Port Coquitlam Community Centre
• Hyde Creek Recreation Centre
• Pinetree Community Centre
3. Port Coquitlam Community Centre
• Location: 2150 Wilson Ave, Port Coquitlam, BC V3C 6J5
• It is an example of a public sector because through its fitness weight room and ice
rinks, it enforced the idea of maintaining a healthy lifestyle (Lunn, 2020, p. 3).
• This is an example of recreation because the municipal government of Port Coquitlam
controls the activity programs and how they are run (Lunn, 2020, p. 5). As the Port
Coquitlam Community Centre offers the nearby community many options such as
skating, hockey, and many fitness-based activities Funding from the taxes payed by
people living in Port Coquitlam allows the municipal level of government to create and
develop activity programs and sports facilities (Lunn, 2020, p. 5).
4. Hyde Creek Recreation Centre
• Location: 1379 Laurier Ave, Port Coquitlam, BC V3B 2B9
• It is an example of a public sector because through its fitness and swimming facilities, it
displays the idea of living healthy (Lunn, 2020, p. 3).
• This is an example of recreation because the municipal government of Port Coquitlam
controls activities containing recreational needs of Port Coquitlam patrons directly through
recreation services (Lunn, 2020, p. 5). As Hyde Creek Recreation Centre offers many
recreational activities such as swimming programs, after school sports youth programs,
and fitness-based programs for the community. Funded by patrons living in Port Coquitlam,
the municipal government has the opportunity to design activity programs and sports
facilities (Lunn, 2020, p. 5).
5. Pinetree Community Centre
• Location: 1260 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam, BC V3B 7Z4
• It is an example of a public sector because through its weight training facility and after
school sports activity programs, it it allows Coquitlam patrons to live an active life (Lunn,
2020, p. 3).
• This is an example of recreation because the municipal government of Coquitlam has
control of all activities containing recreational needs (Lunn, 2020, p. 5). As Pinetree
Community Centre offers many activities such after school sports, weight training, and
fitness-based classes for the nearby society, the funding by taxes payed by the Coquitlam
community presents the municipal government of Coquitlam the opportunity to improve
these programs and facilities for a better experience (Lunn, 2020, p. 5).

7. Commercial Sector
• Defined as: Leisure and recreation in which people pay and businesses
and services try to make a profit (MacLean, Peterson, & Martin, 1985, p.
220, as cited in Karlis, 2011, p. 79, as cited in Lunn, 2020, p.6).
• My three examples are:
• Golds Gym (Port Coquitlam)
• West Coast Iron
• Fitness World (Port Moody)
8. Golds Gym (Port Coquitlam)
• Location: 1950 Oxford Connector, Port Coquitlam, BC V3B 4H3
• This is an example of a commercial sector because it offers people to stay active for a cost (Lunn,
2020, p. 6)
• This is an example related to coaching because it gives the opportunity for young up and coming as
well as experienced health coaches the opportunity to work on their coaching skills through one-on-
one clients, and group classes.
• This is also an example related to Physical Education because it gives the opportunity for people who
are not so interested in sports taught in physical education programs an alternative way to to learn
about and enjoy physical education.
• Golds Gym also connects to recreation, the addition of this new location has given nearby residents
more opportunity to get fit resulting in an overall increase in recreation opportunity (Lunn, 2020, p. 7).
9. West Coast Iron
• Location: 101-1533 Broadway St, Port Coquitlam, BC V3C 6P3
• This is an example of a commercial sector because it allows near by society to obtain
a healthy life if they pay for a membership (Lunn, 2020, p. 6)
• This is also an example related to Physical Education because people are given a
chance to become educated on their bodies and aspects of physical education through
lifting weights or a different form of exercise they enjoy.
• This is an example related to coaching because these gyms give the chance for
educated personal trainers to teach what they have learned to people who are willing
to learn.
10. Fitness World (Port Moody)
• Location: 220 Brew St, Port Moody, BC V3H 0E5
• This is an example of a commercial sector because although it is the most affordable
option in this presentation, still looks to make profit while offering a service (Lunn,
2020, p. 6)
• This gym connects to recreation because this brand new location is more accessible to
more people to begin their health and fitness journeys (Lunn, 2020, p. 7).
• This is related to Physical Education the atmosphere of this gym allows for people of
all experience levels to feel comfortable which results in the enjoyment learning
aspects of physical education through another form of exercise that is fun for the
participant.

12. Voluntary Sector
• Defined as: voluntary leisure or recreation organizations that have been
studied from many disciplines, usually are not run by the government
and are non-profit (Lunn, 2020, p. 8).
• My three examples are:
• North Vancouver Football Club
• Coquitlam Metro Ford Soccer Club
• Port Coquitlam Euro-Rite Football Club
13. North Vancouver Football Club
• Location: 1648 Jones Ave, North Vancouver, BC V7M 2Y4
• This is an example of a voluntary sector because it is a non-profit sports club
that looks to support from members within its community to keep running
(Lunn, 2020, p. 9-10)
• This example is related to recreation because it relies on the support of the
nearby to community through volunteering as well as it invest back into the
club resulting in it being a non-profit (Lunn, 2020, p. 10)
• This is a coaching related example because it allows patinate volunteers to
step up and learn the art of coaching.
14. Coquitlam Metro Ford Soccer Club
• Location: 751 Smith Ave, Coquitlam, BC V3J 2X1
• This is an example of a voluntary sector because it is a non-profit sports club that
looks to support from members within its community to keep running (Lunn, 2020, p. 9-
10)
• This example is related to recreation because it is establishes a culture within the club,
looks at other ways of getting money through fundraising in order to invest back into
the club and seek for members within the community to help the club function (Lunn,
2020, p. 10)
• This is a coaching related example because it gives unexperienced volunteers the
opportunity to learn how to coach while obtaining the proper certificates to coach
throughout their time coaching.
15. Port Coquitlam Euro-Rite Football Club
• Location: 1390 Laurier Ave, Port Coquitlam, BC V3B 2B8 (Closest address to the club
house)
• This is an example of a voluntary sector because it is a club that thrives on its volunteers
as well as it ability to invest back into the club (Lunn, 2020, p. 9-10).
• This example is related to recreation because they seek the support from their members to
run raffles and fundraisers to optimize the amount they can invest into the club (Lunn,
2020, p. 10). Also, when investing back into the club, they purchase new equipment such
as balls, cones as well as new uniforms. The club does this to ensure that all participants
have a save physical environment that gives them the opportunity to improve.
• This is a coaching related example because it gives members the chance to give back and
support the club through coaching opportunities.
16. Voluntary Sector
