Production Evaluation 4
Who would be the
audience for your film?
The Core audience for my opening sequence/film ranges from the ages of 18 to 25 and is
predominantly male.
Age - The age of my target audience is from 18 to 25 years old, this is the age bracket that horror
movies/films have the most success in and make the most amount of money. Additionally, this is the
age group that is legally allowed to view the content and they will understand most of what
happens in the movies/films as they are adult themed.
Gender - The most common gender to watch horror movies/films are males. This does follow the
stereotype of the male role being masculine and not getting scared at a movie whereas women
have a more fearful approach. Another reason Males are the main target audience for horror
movies is because of the over sexualisation of female characters, this means men are more likely to
watch horror movies and therefore more profit will be generated.
Ethnicity ā€“ There is a wide range of ethnic diversity within the audience of a horror film/movie,
horror movies have large success in the US which is a hugely multiā€“cultural society very similar to
the UK.
Who would be the audience for your film?
*Socio-economic Profiling
A High ranking professionals; lawyers, doctors etc.
B Middle class professionals; middle managers in business, teachers.
C1 ā€œWhite collarā€ office workers; junior managers, office clerks, bank clerks, nurses etc.
C2 Skilled manual workers; carpenters, electricians etc.
D Semi-skilled and unskilled manual workers; drivers, post sorters, labourers
E People subsisting on state benefits; the unemployed, pensioners etc.
Who would be the audience for your film?
My target audience will fit into the C1, C2 or D category as they have free time at
weekends and appreciate the type of films the horror genre entails. These socio-
economic groups are middle/lower class.
**Psychographic Profiling
Reformer An independent thinker, craving harmony and authenticity
Explorer Someone desiring discovery, challenge and new experiences
Succeeded A goal-orientated organiser who needs control
Aspirer A materialistic seeker of status
Mainstreamer Someone in search of security, belonging and routine
Struggler An escapist who lives for today but is often viewed as a loser
Resigned Someone focused on survival and nostalgia with long-held values
Who would be the audience for your film?
Two of my characters are mainstreamers, Charlie and Josh whereas Dom is
Resigned. Whereas the target audience will mainly consist of mainstreamers
which want to view horror movies with their friends. On the next slide there
are some audience examples.
Target Audience Examples
I enjoy clubbing and social media in general
with my friends. I also play football and jog
regularly whilst at Uni, some of my hobbies
include cycling and rock climbing. Finally, I
love horror movies that have a good story
and relatable characters as well as the
movie being cheap to watch or buy !
I am 20 years old and studying fine art at
Southampton University, I have on younger
brother who is very similar to me and an older
sister who lives abroad in Spain. I play football
and go to the gym regularly allowing me to
get out of flat. I am active but sometimes have
very lazy days watching movies and TV.

I spend a lot of my time with friends when I
am not working, we love going shopping
and looking around the city. I also enjoy
fashion and photography which is why I
shop a bit too much ! I enjoy clubbing and
going to parties to meet new people.
I am22 years old and in my last year of
University, I study at London Fashion College
and work in Timberland. I go on holiday twice
a year to Australia and the Caribbean as I have
family who now live there. Finally, i sing and
song write in my spare time which is, now that
i think about it, not that spare anymore. I
balance work, education and socializing and
then I have no more free time.

Who would be the audience for your film?
Audience Profile
ā€¢ On the previous slide we can see two ideal audience profiles for my
film/movie. These are stereotypical audiences members made from
observing my research more carefully. This target audience is
therefore going to be roughly around the age of 18 to 25 and have an
average income of about Ā£19,000 to Ā£20,000 per year. The next slide
illustrates the audience data that will be watching my film/movie. This
data is always beneficial as it allows you to collect vast amounts of
peoples preferences and ideologies through simple graphs or tests.
Audience Data
This pie chart shows us the different
percentages between a male and
female audience watching horror. This
data directly correlates to my audience
research as we can see that the horror
genre is generally preferred by males.
This allows me to include more male
orientated themes and thus works to
my advantage.
This pie chart illustrates to us what
type of sub genre within horror is
more popular. This is helpful data as
it allows me to create a story that
comfortably fits into that sub genre
and thus give the best outcome from
my audience. Additionally, the data
gives me a strong indicator of what I
should include in my film/movie for it
to be successful.
This chart is focused upon the film
audiences age. As stated in previous
research I conducted this shows how
the prim horror age is between 19-
24. This means adult themes will be
prominent and that I can include
everything I desire to in my film as
my audience are mature. Finally, this
data means I can specifically focus
my work on my audiences
preferences and therefore making it
more enjoyable for them, the
consumer.

  • 6. Audience Profile ā€¢ On the previous slide we can see two ideal audience profiles for my film/movie. These are stereotypical audiences members made from observing my research more carefully. This target audience is therefore going to be roughly around the age of 18 to 25 and have an average income of about Ā£19,000 to Ā£20,000 per year. The next slide illustrates the audience data that will be watching my film/movie. This data is always beneficial as it allows you to collect vast amounts of peoples preferences and ideologies through simple graphs or tests.
  • 7. Audience Data This pie chart shows us the different percentages between a male and female audience watching horror. This data directly correlates to my audience research as we can see that the horror genre is generally preferred by males. This allows me to include more male orientated themes and thus works to my advantage. This pie chart illustrates to us what type of sub genre within horror is more popular. This is helpful data as it allows me to create a story that comfortably fits into that sub genre and thus give the best outcome from my audience. Additionally, the data gives me a strong indicator of what I should include in my film/movie for it to be successful. This chart is focused upon the film audiences age. As stated in previous research I conducted this shows how the prim horror age is between 19- 24. This means adult themes will be prominent and that I can include everything I desire to in my film as my audience are mature. Finally, this data means I can specifically focus my work on my audiences preferences and therefore making it more enjoyable for them, the consumer.
