THRILLER
Demographics are specific characteristics within a group of people. The
population can be split up into different demographics which can help
film makers create films that are pointed at a specific group of people in
order to sell.
The different demographics are:
 Gender
 Age
 Race
 Religion
 Nationality
 Region
 Class
 Sexuality
What are demographics?
The demographic of gender
This data shows that 42% of men and 58% of
women go to watch thrillers in the cinema. This
could be because women tend to go to the
cinema in groups, whereas men go usually with
their partner.This explains the difference in
statistics. Knowing this information helps with
the creation of thriller films as we can cater to
the majority female audience; maybe by
adding an attractive male lead. this could also
attract a male audience as they can relate to
the character.
The demographic of age
This graph shows that 26% of people
watching thriller films are 50+, whilst only
16% are 14-17 years old. this could be
because older people aren’t in work
anymore meaning they have more time on
their hands compared to younger people
who have work and school. Older people
have more disposable income that they
can spend on going to see thriller films;
whereas the younger generations like to go
out and spend their money on their
families or going out doing things like
shopping. Also, older people are tired more
so they do things like going to the cinema
as it doesn’t require much energy.This can
be taken into consideration when people
make thrillers as they can cater to the older
audience by including aspects they can
relate to like a fellow older person.
The data shows the different job statuses and what they are classed under.
The lower class jobs such as casual workers and students have less money
than the higher class jobs like teachers and bankers; which means that they
have less opportunities to go and watch films with money being tight. The
higher class workers however might have less time to go out and watch films
so they might buy them instead. Filmmakers can cater to these audiences by
including aspects into their films that the audience can relate to. For example
for lawyers they could make it a crime film or add some aspect of crime and
mystery. For students they could include teenagers or younger people in
education and put them in situations the audience can relate to.

The demographic of age This graph shows that 26% of people watching thriller films are 50+, whilst only 16% are 14-17 years old. this could be because older people aren’t in work anymore meaning they have more time on their hands compared to younger people who have work and school. Older people have more disposable income that they can spend on going to see thriller films; whereas the younger generations like to go out and spend their money on their families or going out doing things like shopping. Also, older people are tired more so they do things like going to the cinema as it doesn’t require much energy.This can be taken into consideration when people make thrillers as they can cater to the older audience by including aspects they can relate to like a fellow older person.

The lower class jobs such as casual workers and students have less money than the higher class jobs like teachers and bankers; which means that they have less opportunities to go and watch films with money being tight. The higher class workers however might have less time to go out and watch films so they might buy them instead. Filmmakers can cater to these audiences by including aspects into their films that the audience can relate to. For example for lawyers they could make it a crime film or add some aspect of crime and mystery. For students they could include teenagers or younger people in education and put them in situations the audience can relate to. Demographic of job statuses
