2. Similar films -> Top boy
Top boy was a TV series, shown on E4 a few years
ago. The series really outlined the stereotypical “
black” teenager as being a gangster or a thug.
This really helped us to focus our opening
sequence and create a opening that went
against that stereotype. Our opening is about a
boy that gets wrongfully convicted of murder and
is trying to prove his innocence. This goes
completely against the stereotype bought up
against black people in the sense that they are
now the victim in the case of the murder and not
the guilty party.
3. Similar films ->Kidulthood
This is also another film that relates to
our particular genre of opening. It is
about a day in the life of a group of
troubled 15-year-olds growing up in
west London. They get up to a lot of
trouble and end up killing someone by
accident. This directly relates to our
opening in the respect that someone
dies by accident and it is not my fault.
4. Potential target market
For this part of the process we thought long
and hard. When deciding the type of genre
opening we are creating played a vital role,
as well as the language that will be used and
also props and mis-en-scene. We came to the
decision that our opening will appeal to
people aged 12 and above. This was due to
the fact that it is the genre is crime, this
connotes that the opening will involve
swearing, knifes and graphical content
