1.
2. Shots
All my shots featured direct mode of address within it to establish some
sort of connection with the reader and to hold it throughout the magazine
(uses & grats). In the front cover he is giving the audience quite an
aggressive stare down which can be seen as threatening but with the
audience I am trying to attract this can be seen as quite ‘hard’ so that he is
a thug of some sort and this can be seen as a good thing among my
audience. Also having a youth seem to be aggressive like this reinforces
the hegemonic stereotype that teens and youths are quite aggressive in
their ways.
3. In all my pictures I use the same model, I done this to highlights his importance on
the front cover and also to highlight the fact that he was what the main story was
about and that the is the main person in my magazine, anyone else that I mention
within my magazine is only their name this I just to show the audience that they
are also featuring in the magazine but the main model is the one that features in
the magazine the most. Both my front cover and contents have the him in a
medium close up with him being in a long shot for my double page spread.
4. I decided to stick with the convention that males are used on the front covers of
music R&B magazines because this was the genre and audience I was going for
and I felt no need to change it.
Also with the way I positioned my image on my
double page spread which is more on the left than
right conforms with the convention of it being their. I
haven't positioned him completely on the left as I
have put him more towards the middle, I have done
this to immediately latch the readers eyes onto him
so they know that its all about him and to keep him
in the readers sight/mind at all times no matter where
they are reading on the spread
5. Mise En Scene
The way my model is dressed conforms with the convention within the genre
I am producing, He is dressed in very casual clothes, he is dressed in all
black clothes consisting of a black shirt, jeans, bomber jacket and a black
snapback. I have him dressed like this so the audience (16-25 yr. olds) can
associate with him more and feel as if they are like him and can relate to him
in some sort of way. I decided to keep the clothing simple as that seems to
be the common convention that other magazines use and I liked it to be
simple and relatable for as many people as possible. I decided to avoid
using props such as gold chains and, money and things such as alcohol and
smoke. I have done this to again relate to as many people as possible and to
not promote negative stereotypes and habits within my magazine.
6. Text
With the layout and type of text I used I wanted to
keep my text in small parts and easy to read, I have
done this to avoid anyone seeing that there is a large
chunk of text and choosing not to read it because of
that. I also kept all of my text in bold so it stands out
more especially on the front cover to catch someone's
eye and for them to be able to read it easily and
maybe be interested on reading on from that small
glimpse they had. This Is a common convention and
technique that other magazines of the same genre
use in their own magazines.
7. I also used fonts such as the graffiti font in my magazine
to refer to the thuggish attitude of my model and could
represent something in his past such as his
neighbourhood he grew up in or where he lives now. But
graffiti is quite a liked w=thing among my target audience
so again it can help the reader relate to the model.
The model himself
helps the audience
relate to him
immediately anyway
because the is the
same age of the
audience I am trying
to attract
