Question 2
1. How does your media product
represent particular social
groups?
My media product represent quite a few social groups, the first group I represent
is indie teenagers. I represented them in a very stereotypical way, they were
dressed in clothes that were not everyday clothes and very individual to them,
also I represented teenagers as being very moody as that is a big stereotype of
them to do this I made my models pose with a very solemn facial expression to
put across a feeling of moody to represent the social group. I stuck to the
convention of teenage speak when writing my article as when writing in it is not
written in proper english and is written in more of teenage slang terms at some
points, i did this so that it appeals to my target audience.
2. How does your media product
represent particular social
groups?
Also in my magazine I have represented females in a very certain way. The images
in which I took of females is with them all wearing makeup and nicely dressed this
is because this is a stereotype of females and this appeals to the audience in
which I selected for my magazine. By having females dressed nice and wearing
makeup I followed conventions of the particular social group.
3. How does your media product
represent particular social
groups?
When portraying the males within my magazine i followed the conventions. I did
this by using male models who are considered to be good looking and in good
physical health. In photos that i have used the male characters dominate the
women ones in their presence within the photo. The is a stereotype of how men
see them self to women.
4. How does your media product
represent particular social
groups?
The hipster social group is portrayed a lot within my magazine however when
portraying them I didn't stick to the general conventions. I portrayed the hipsters
as quite sensitive and close natured to each other, especially with in the main
image on my double page spread as the two characters are very intimately
positioned together. I did this as it is what the idea of my magazine was to bring
forward the new, so by not following the conventions that are generally
associated with hipsters it brings across something new linking with the theme of
the magazine.
5. How does your media product
represent particular social
groups?
Also the colour scheme is very much unconventional of hipsters as it is very
contrasting colours of black and white but colours that are not to bright and
outgoing like hipsters are made out to be. I did this for the same reason i took my
photos in the way i did, to make it look new and individual just like a hipster.
