TASK 1
Idea
Generation and
Research
RESEARCH & IDEA
GENERATION
Select a song/track that you like [or don’t like!]
Generate three ideas for music videos
employing styles, techniques and conventions
that we have looked at in previous sessions.
Explore how you could interpret the song
differently using different methods
You can add any extra info you think is
relevant, images, mind maps, etc
For quick mind maps you could use bubbl.us
to generate these
RESEARCH
Watch a selection of videos to get your ideas started,
make note of a minimum of 5 – add extra slides,
screenshot the video and in bullet point note down info
in terms of camera, editing, art design, performance, etc
and how this might link to your production
Hint!
You’ve already done this in
your case study, so you can
summarise that here where
relevant
ANIMALS-MAROON 5
• Dark lighting
• Stalker vibes
• Inappropriate
pictures of the
woman
• Quite rare to
have a darkroom
in these times.
3rd person view of him
following the girl.
Daylight, quite a few people
around him.
Have a similar fashion sense,
maybe he did this to catch
her attention.
The name of the song is
animals and there is some
scenes like this one here
of meat hanging down
and it creates like a
horror/thriller effect. It
makes you wonder is this
linked and the reason for
the song name?
Camera angles: switch
between close up and wide
shots.
Constantly switching from
the woman to the
stalker/singer.
There's a lyric in the song
that says “I'm preying on
you tonight” which could
link to the song name that
she is the animal getting
preyed on- woman getting
MAPS-MAROON 5
• Dramatic start- shouting at the hospital
• Explicit scenes, first person view from both people- one in the hospital bed shows
how she has a blurry view, second person view is him being panicky and
breathing heavily because of what happened.
• Scenes of partying, dark lighting, flashbacks from before the hospital- looks like
his life was good but he ruined it at the party- feeling of regret and guilt.
• Camera angles- rotation of the camera to make it look like we are seeing what he
is seeing whilst also watching him.
• Different emotions was shown throughout the video such as anger, anxiousness,
regret, sadness, guilt and acting drunk.
Blurry
HIM & I- G-EAZY & HALSEY
• Gives off the effect that the music video was taped on a recorder in the 80s/90s.
• The camera shots are mostly on the 2 singers as the song was wrote about their
relationship and love but there is also some wide shots of the surroundings such
as the bridges, the underground stations etc.
• The body language in this music video is very close and looks like they are
attached.
• The main location that is shown throughout the video is the nightlife of new York,
this means that the lighting is quite dark but because of the way that the video
has been edited makes it look darker than if it was edited with no effect.
LOSE YOU TO LOVE ME-
SELENA GOMEZ
• The video starts off with vision mixing and blending but as you get through the
video until the end you see that it is like that all the time.
• This music video is very consistent and repetitive as its in black and white and the
location doesn’t seem to change at all.
• The camera angles don’t seem to change either and she made me (the audience)
feel as if she was speaking to someone because she was sat right Infront of the
camera.
• From these points that I have listed
you would get the idea that the song
is quite a sad song because it looks
like she doesn’t have the energy to
move around and wants us to
understand and feel what she is
singing. Also the name of the song
would suggest that it is quite a sad
song, if you was to just look at this
title and not listen most people would
list it as a sad song.
FAKE LOVE-TJ PORTER
• The first line of this song is “them good times don’t last forever” and the scene
that is linked to it is him pulling up to a graveyard. This might give us the idea
that the song is for someone or he is thinking about someone while he performed
this video.
• The camera angles switch back and forth from him to the grave stones, there is
also shots from above probably filmed by a drone of the surroundings.
• Scenes of smoking and drinking, he is doing this in a grave yard which might give
you the impression that this person is in pain, he mentions throughout the song
that he feels pain.
This part of the music
video has been edited
differently from the rest
of the clips, it looks like
something you would
record from a video tape
in the 90s or 2000s.
NAASTY-DBE
• The starting point of this music video is them in the car listening back to the
recorded version of the song that they made. The location of this is in a petrol
station at night so the lighting is sometimes dark, depending on when the camera
is being turned.
• There is scenes of groups of men, shouting, screaming and driving around in
cars.
• The camera angles switch between shots of
them to shots of the car as if they want to
show it off because it is expensive
• There is scenes when the performers are
dancing along to the beat and throwing their
hands in the air for the rhythm.
• Scenes of smoking and
drinking.
• Zoom ins on the expensive
clothing that they wear.
POTENTIAL SONGS
You broke me first- Tate Mcrae
Lose you to love me- Selena Gomez
Him and I- G-eazy and Halsey
Friends- marshmello, anne-marie
POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES
I am going to edit my music video by adding some of the
lyrics onto the screen when they are being sung. I will
get someone to record me lipsyncing and will move
around to stop the background being too repative. I will
record it at night with bright lights around me from
buildings and decorations.
I will use a mixture of both close up and recording them
from far away- not facing the camera, facing the camera,
scenery shots.
CONVENTIONS YOU PLAN TO
USE
The lighting in my music video will range from dark to
light because when the camera is moving it will change
the lighting abit.
There wont really be a colour theme and they will dress
casually because its not like they are going to any fancy
places and need to dress nice.
SUMMARY
5 opportunities of your ideas
• I will learn how to get better at editing videos and even learning how to use and
hold a camera properly.
• My music video isn’t too hard to film because there's not a lot of people involved
its just 2 people with a few different locations.
• It will be quite easy to organize when to film my video because I don’t need to
gather a lot of people and find a date when everyone is free, I can pretty much do
it any day.
• The lyrics are easy to learn for both parts.
• The outfits can be casual, so you don’t need to buy any expensive clothing items
or props, everything I need I pretty much have.
SUMMARY
5 restrictions to your ideas
• When filming in public, if I wanted a shot of just one person and the place, I was
in was very busy I would be restricted a lot because I might not be able to get this
certain shot.
• We might not be available on the same day to film some clips for the video, or I
might not be able to get anyone to hold the camera if I needed it.
• When I edit the music video, I might not be able to get that old school look I want.
• I want to get some aesthetic shots of buildings, but it might be hard to find a
good location for this and I also want it to be at nighttime or when the sun is
setting because the surroundings look prettier, especially with an old school
effect.
• I want wide shots off scenery, and it looks the best when you use a drone, but I
don’t have one so this might affect the video and not look as good if I use a
camera.
MIND MAP OF IDEAS
[SUMMARY OF IDEAS]
•Starts off with scenery pictures of the location
•Moves onto the main character who walks into the
frame- there is going to be a time lapse at the start of
the character walking
•Starts lip syncing the song
•Does a variety of hand gestures
•In the middle of the music video there will be more
videos of the scenery
•Carry on lip syncing
•End of the music video it will end with the time lapse
again of the character walking
FINAL IDEA –
ARTIST/TITLE/INFO
Name of track / name of artist- bru c x bou- streetside
Brief biographical- Bru c is a British MC and rapper from Long Eaton,
Derbyshire, England. His name is Josh Bruce and he was born in June
28, 1991.
Links to other artists-
•Bru c- is linked to these artists- Boy Chiller Crew, Crucast ( skepsis, darkzy,
window kid, canine and Lazcru.)
Genre info
Bru c- bassline/drum and bass
name of track- streetside, genre: bassline/drum and bass.
FINAL IDEA – TRACK
SUMMARY
Summary/analysis of track [consider meaning, content,
duration, pace and style of the song]
This is a song by two artists, bru c who does the male
vocals and bou who made the beat, it involves bru c
rapping a drum and bass beat. The song is about how
lockdown effected their mental health with lyrics such as
“lockdown got me on a decline”.
FINAL IDEA – YOUR IDEA
Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your
interpretation, use of imagery or narrative, genre
conventions, etc]
My final idea for my music idea is to record someone
else lip syncing to the song. I will also be doing actions
to go along with the lyrics. It will be dark with bright
lights in the backdrop and will move around so the
background isn't the same. I will then edit the music
video so that some text will pop up when the word is
being sung to make the video more interesting. I will
include time lapses at the start and end of the music
video, if not both either start or end, probably the end.
TASK 2
Pre-production
Assessment
GUIDANC
E:
PRE-
PRODUCT
ION
ASSESSM
ENT
You need to assess the viability of your production and
investigate what is required to enable you to make your
music video
Much of this task is hypothetical, which means you will
need to investigate standard costings for such a
production and apply these to your planned production
considering which equipment you would need and
resources, etc
Resources to support this are in the Pre-production
assessment folder on Blackboard
Delete the questions on each slide and insert your
responses
TITLE OF
PRODUCTION/PRODUC
TION OUTLINE
Summary of intended production
Detail here what you are going to
make and the intended outcome
Detailed breakdown of the music
track chosen and your interpretation
of it [remember the questions in the
workbook, e.g.
pace/mood/tone/structure]
Specific outline your intended
technical/equipment requirements
Include any details that you think
[you could use material from your
pitch]
LOCATIONS
You need to identify locations and plan a recce.
What are the limitations and risks, eg distance, access,
cost, weather? How will you manage this?
My music video is going to have different locations such
as the city of leeds, streets, bridges, car parks, videos of
trains moving.
The risks for filming in the outside in a public place such
as a park are the weather might be awful and prevents
me from filming which will set me back, there also might
be people walking in the shots when I am filming. I will
try to prevent this by going to secluded areas nobody
seems to go to or I will just film when nobody is around.
EQUIPMENT
What do you need? E.g. equipment, resources? Mostly
from college, but who do you need to speak to get this
kit? What is available? When?
Look at equipment hire places, etc
I will either film the footage on my phone or use the
camera I have at home. If I am not happy with how the
videos look I will try hire a camera kit from the college.
FACILITIES
Where will you edit your video? Do you need any other
specialist facilities…?
I will edit my videos in college or if I have the correct
apps, I can also do it at home.
PERSONNEL
CREW: What is you team? Who is in it? What are each team members
strengths/weaknesses? When are they available?
•I am the camera man.
CAST: Do you need any external performers? When are they available?
Cost implications? Will you have to feed them? Transport them?
•I have my friend who is going to be the main character of the music
video, I will include a couple videos featuring me but it will mostly be
the boy.
Other personnel? Is anyone else helping you?- I might get someone
else to film the shots that both people need to be in but if nobody can I
will set it up on a tripod or something else.
PROPS/COSTUME/ETC
•I won't have any specific costumes, just casual clothing
that you would wear on a day-to-day basis. I wont have
any props in my video.
TASK 3.1
Visual Planning
PRE-PRODUCTION:
VISUAL PLANNING
This section is concerned with the visual planning of your
music video
You should use this section to develop the sequencing or your
video, establish the relationship between the visuals and the
track itself and create a structure for you to follow when
filming
It is important that you ‘pre-visualize’ the video before you
make it; it will make filming and production a more
streamlined process
The following tasks are part of your visual planning
 Pre-visualization and concept boards
 Storyboarding
 Shot list
PRE-
VISUALISATION/CONC
EPT BOARDS
Tool for exploring the direction and visuals
Provides inspiration and information for the “look & feel”
Presents key moments in your video
A means to sketch/plan ideas
Information on colour/lighting
Defining the “mise-en-scene”
Include as much here as you like, but keep it relevant to the
production, the following slides have been left blank for you to
approach in your own way, add more as you need to
Extension suggestion: edit a short sequence of clips that have
inspired or influenced your video [similar to this:
http://io9.com/5941145/this-directors-video-pitch-for-hunger-
games-might-be-better-than-the-real-movie]
RIP-O-MATIC
You should also construct a 15-20second Rip-o-matic
test reel using existing footage to convey the type of
video you want to make
STRUCTU
RAL
BREAKDO
WN
Breakdown your track into it basic sections [e.g.
intro, verse, chorus, verse, etc] and apply broad
visual ideas to each section
You can use this as the master template for your
production, then add more shots to each section
when you develop your full visual plan
You should create a slide showing all the sections
of the song, then add a slide for each section with
timings, lyrics, what happens and details on
specific shots
You could storyboard and shot list each section
as you go, to break up the process.
STORYBOAR
DING
Your storyboard should bring your idea to
life
Provide an idea of the sequencing of you
video
Provides a basis for production
Suggested online storyboard creators are:
 http://www.pixton.com [very
complicated]
 http://www.storyjumper.com [allows you
to insert your own images]
Alternatively, hand draw or photograph
your storyboard and scan or copy to insert
it onto your slides
There are lots of tips collected together on
Blackboard! page.
Instead, ask your teacher for their "Join
Class" link and sign up there.
SHOT
LIST
Your shot list should contain the
sequential breakdown of what you
need to shoot for your video
It should work in partnership with
your storyboard
It will be your working document
when you film
It should contain the shot number,
scene number, shot description,
framing and action you will see
It should also have information on
performers in the scene and other
props, etc
Shot list template is on Blackboard
in the pre-production folder.
TASK 3.2
Organisational
Planning
PRODUCTION GROUP INFO
Include names, contact info, and defined roles at
difference stages of production, using a table is
suggested
Names Job
Elli Camera Man
Dan Lead Singer
LOCATION
INFORMAT
ION
Information and images of your
location[s] for filming
You should have address details,
clearance/premissions for filming,
recce photos and floorplans
[including camera, equipment and
cast/crew layouts]
Where possible, have a plan B
fallback location option
Assess each location for any issues
and suggest solutions
LOCATIONS
Leeds City
I will be getting shots at the Royal Armouries and bridges
close by and other surroundings/buildings that are close.
Also there will be shots on main roads in Kirkstall and
car parks around this area.
RISK
ASSESSM
ENT
Risk Assess each separate filming
location using the table in the
camera H&S PP on Bb as a staring
point
Completing a generic filming
assessment would be a start, then
you can add specialist/site specific
risks as you progress your
production
Remember, a Risk Assessment is an
ongoing document, you should
evaluate if anything changes in
production and when you put
control measures in place
You should add the table to each
call sheet for each location
RISK ASSESSMENT
•Be careful not to fall over when filming in the dark locations and at
nighttime.
•I will probably be filming on the pavement which is obviously next to
roads, so you have to be careful about not getting near the edge and
not getting hit by any cars.
•I am filming some of the video on a bridge, so I need to make sure me
and people who are helping or around don’t slip and fall or any of the
equipment falls off into the water below.
•As I am filming at night, there is possible chance of horrible things
such as stabbings and me and my cast could get hurt or even witness
one. To stop this from happening I will run away and make sure I am
not by myself.
•My equipment could get stolen. To stop this happening, I will make
sure that all the equipment isn’t on show and all packed away in a
separate bag.
CONTINGENCY
PLANNING
Things go wrong
Your contingency plan is there to give you a
backup or to minimise the effect on
production
You should consider the following areas:
Technical, Location, Personnel and
Organisational areas [about 5 potential issues
for each]
Use the form in pre-production folder on
Blackboard
CONTINGENCY PLAN
•I am going to be filming my clips on a camera and my phone for
backups and different choices because the two clips will have a big
difference.
• If it is raining in Leeds when I am
filming I am going to have to record
all the bits I need inside first and
then finish with the outside stuff
when I can. I will probably try get the
outside scenes done Thursday or
Friday because that’s the days not
raining.
I want
to film
outside
during
and
after the
sunset.
• I could lose all my footage if I break my
camera/gets stolen or if the SD card
fails.
• My footage could be really blurry which
would not look good with the effect I
want to use because that already blurs
it out abit.
PRODUCTION SCHEDULE
Your schedule should budget a total of 10 hours for
production, that is for the filming and editing of your
project.
You should plan when you’re filming and how you intend
to use the in class days on your timetable/class schedule
SCHEDULE
Monday- Start filming for my music video.
Tuesday- Continue filming if I need to.
Wednesday- If I have finished shooting, I will look at all
the clips and make sure I have everything I need, if I
don’t, I will have to shoot the stuff at the weekend or
whenever my cast is next available.
Monday- I should have got everything by this point so I
will begin editing.
Tuesday- Upload all my footage onto the computer/ one
drive and begin editing.
Wednesday- Edit until I have finished.
CLEARANCE AND
PERMISSIONS
Any place you film and anyone you use in the
filming of your video must have a completed form
Blank forms are available for you to complete and
insert here, you can also create your own

Mv production assignment form 2021 ( copy - copy1

  • 1. MUSIC VIDEO ASSIGNME NT 2 YOUR NAME HERE Click to add text
  • 2. GUIDANC E This template PowerPoint presentation includes all the relevant elements you need to cover in your Music Video Assignment It is suggested you save this PP in a different name and share it with your group so you always have a copy – some sections require you to delete the information on the slide and replace with your own work Add more pages to each section where necessary [you should be doing this!] Add visuals as you see necessary This document will be added to as you progress through the pre-production phase. Delete this slide when complete
  • 4. RESEARCH & IDEA GENERATION Select a song/track that you like [or don’t like!] Generate three ideas for music videos employing styles, techniques and conventions that we have looked at in previous sessions. Explore how you could interpret the song differently using different methods You can add any extra info you think is relevant, images, mind maps, etc For quick mind maps you could use bubbl.us to generate these
  • 5. RESEARCH Watch a selection of videos to get your ideas started, make note of a minimum of 5 – add extra slides, screenshot the video and in bullet point note down info in terms of camera, editing, art design, performance, etc and how this might link to your production Hint! You’ve already done this in your case study, so you can summarise that here where relevant
  • 6. ANIMALS-MAROON 5 • Dark lighting • Stalker vibes • Inappropriate pictures of the woman • Quite rare to have a darkroom in these times. 3rd person view of him following the girl. Daylight, quite a few people around him. Have a similar fashion sense, maybe he did this to catch her attention. The name of the song is animals and there is some scenes like this one here of meat hanging down and it creates like a horror/thriller effect. It makes you wonder is this linked and the reason for the song name? Camera angles: switch between close up and wide shots. Constantly switching from the woman to the stalker/singer. There's a lyric in the song that says “I'm preying on you tonight” which could link to the song name that she is the animal getting preyed on- woman getting
  • 7. MAPS-MAROON 5 • Dramatic start- shouting at the hospital • Explicit scenes, first person view from both people- one in the hospital bed shows how she has a blurry view, second person view is him being panicky and breathing heavily because of what happened. • Scenes of partying, dark lighting, flashbacks from before the hospital- looks like his life was good but he ruined it at the party- feeling of regret and guilt. • Camera angles- rotation of the camera to make it look like we are seeing what he is seeing whilst also watching him. • Different emotions was shown throughout the video such as anger, anxiousness, regret, sadness, guilt and acting drunk. Blurry
  • 8. HIM & I- G-EAZY & HALSEY • Gives off the effect that the music video was taped on a recorder in the 80s/90s. • The camera shots are mostly on the 2 singers as the song was wrote about their relationship and love but there is also some wide shots of the surroundings such as the bridges, the underground stations etc. • The body language in this music video is very close and looks like they are attached. • The main location that is shown throughout the video is the nightlife of new York, this means that the lighting is quite dark but because of the way that the video has been edited makes it look darker than if it was edited with no effect.
  • 9. LOSE YOU TO LOVE ME- SELENA GOMEZ • The video starts off with vision mixing and blending but as you get through the video until the end you see that it is like that all the time. • This music video is very consistent and repetitive as its in black and white and the location doesn’t seem to change at all. • The camera angles don’t seem to change either and she made me (the audience) feel as if she was speaking to someone because she was sat right Infront of the camera. • From these points that I have listed you would get the idea that the song is quite a sad song because it looks like she doesn’t have the energy to move around and wants us to understand and feel what she is singing. Also the name of the song would suggest that it is quite a sad song, if you was to just look at this title and not listen most people would list it as a sad song.
  • 10. FAKE LOVE-TJ PORTER • The first line of this song is “them good times don’t last forever” and the scene that is linked to it is him pulling up to a graveyard. This might give us the idea that the song is for someone or he is thinking about someone while he performed this video. • The camera angles switch back and forth from him to the grave stones, there is also shots from above probably filmed by a drone of the surroundings. • Scenes of smoking and drinking, he is doing this in a grave yard which might give you the impression that this person is in pain, he mentions throughout the song that he feels pain. This part of the music video has been edited differently from the rest of the clips, it looks like something you would record from a video tape in the 90s or 2000s.
  • 11. NAASTY-DBE • The starting point of this music video is them in the car listening back to the recorded version of the song that they made. The location of this is in a petrol station at night so the lighting is sometimes dark, depending on when the camera is being turned. • There is scenes of groups of men, shouting, screaming and driving around in cars. • The camera angles switch between shots of them to shots of the car as if they want to show it off because it is expensive • There is scenes when the performers are dancing along to the beat and throwing their hands in the air for the rhythm. • Scenes of smoking and drinking. • Zoom ins on the expensive clothing that they wear.
  • 12. POTENTIAL SONGS You broke me first- Tate Mcrae Lose you to love me- Selena Gomez Him and I- G-eazy and Halsey Friends- marshmello, anne-marie
  • 13. POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES I am going to edit my music video by adding some of the lyrics onto the screen when they are being sung. I will get someone to record me lipsyncing and will move around to stop the background being too repative. I will record it at night with bright lights around me from buildings and decorations. I will use a mixture of both close up and recording them from far away- not facing the camera, facing the camera, scenery shots.
  • 14. CONVENTIONS YOU PLAN TO USE The lighting in my music video will range from dark to light because when the camera is moving it will change the lighting abit. There wont really be a colour theme and they will dress casually because its not like they are going to any fancy places and need to dress nice.
  • 15. SUMMARY 5 opportunities of your ideas • I will learn how to get better at editing videos and even learning how to use and hold a camera properly. • My music video isn’t too hard to film because there's not a lot of people involved its just 2 people with a few different locations. • It will be quite easy to organize when to film my video because I don’t need to gather a lot of people and find a date when everyone is free, I can pretty much do it any day. • The lyrics are easy to learn for both parts. • The outfits can be casual, so you don’t need to buy any expensive clothing items or props, everything I need I pretty much have.
  • 16. SUMMARY 5 restrictions to your ideas • When filming in public, if I wanted a shot of just one person and the place, I was in was very busy I would be restricted a lot because I might not be able to get this certain shot. • We might not be available on the same day to film some clips for the video, or I might not be able to get anyone to hold the camera if I needed it. • When I edit the music video, I might not be able to get that old school look I want. • I want to get some aesthetic shots of buildings, but it might be hard to find a good location for this and I also want it to be at nighttime or when the sun is setting because the surroundings look prettier, especially with an old school effect. • I want wide shots off scenery, and it looks the best when you use a drone, but I don’t have one so this might affect the video and not look as good if I use a camera.
  • 17. MIND MAP OF IDEAS [SUMMARY OF IDEAS] •Starts off with scenery pictures of the location •Moves onto the main character who walks into the frame- there is going to be a time lapse at the start of the character walking •Starts lip syncing the song •Does a variety of hand gestures •In the middle of the music video there will be more videos of the scenery •Carry on lip syncing •End of the music video it will end with the time lapse again of the character walking
  • 18. FINAL IDEA – ARTIST/TITLE/INFO Name of track / name of artist- bru c x bou- streetside Brief biographical- Bru c is a British MC and rapper from Long Eaton, Derbyshire, England. His name is Josh Bruce and he was born in June 28, 1991. Links to other artists- •Bru c- is linked to these artists- Boy Chiller Crew, Crucast ( skepsis, darkzy, window kid, canine and Lazcru.) Genre info Bru c- bassline/drum and bass name of track- streetside, genre: bassline/drum and bass.
  • 19. FINAL IDEA – TRACK SUMMARY Summary/analysis of track [consider meaning, content, duration, pace and style of the song] This is a song by two artists, bru c who does the male vocals and bou who made the beat, it involves bru c rapping a drum and bass beat. The song is about how lockdown effected their mental health with lyrics such as “lockdown got me on a decline”.
  • 20. FINAL IDEA – YOUR IDEA Your creative concept/video synopsis [describe your interpretation, use of imagery or narrative, genre conventions, etc] My final idea for my music idea is to record someone else lip syncing to the song. I will also be doing actions to go along with the lyrics. It will be dark with bright lights in the backdrop and will move around so the background isn't the same. I will then edit the music video so that some text will pop up when the word is being sung to make the video more interesting. I will include time lapses at the start and end of the music video, if not both either start or end, probably the end.
  • 22. GUIDANC E: PRE- PRODUCT ION ASSESSM ENT You need to assess the viability of your production and investigate what is required to enable you to make your music video Much of this task is hypothetical, which means you will need to investigate standard costings for such a production and apply these to your planned production considering which equipment you would need and resources, etc Resources to support this are in the Pre-production assessment folder on Blackboard Delete the questions on each slide and insert your responses
  • 23. TITLE OF PRODUCTION/PRODUC TION OUTLINE Summary of intended production Detail here what you are going to make and the intended outcome Detailed breakdown of the music track chosen and your interpretation of it [remember the questions in the workbook, e.g. pace/mood/tone/structure] Specific outline your intended technical/equipment requirements Include any details that you think [you could use material from your pitch]
  • 24. LOCATIONS You need to identify locations and plan a recce. What are the limitations and risks, eg distance, access, cost, weather? How will you manage this? My music video is going to have different locations such as the city of leeds, streets, bridges, car parks, videos of trains moving. The risks for filming in the outside in a public place such as a park are the weather might be awful and prevents me from filming which will set me back, there also might be people walking in the shots when I am filming. I will try to prevent this by going to secluded areas nobody seems to go to or I will just film when nobody is around.
  • 25. EQUIPMENT What do you need? E.g. equipment, resources? Mostly from college, but who do you need to speak to get this kit? What is available? When? Look at equipment hire places, etc I will either film the footage on my phone or use the camera I have at home. If I am not happy with how the videos look I will try hire a camera kit from the college.
  • 26. FACILITIES Where will you edit your video? Do you need any other specialist facilities…? I will edit my videos in college or if I have the correct apps, I can also do it at home.
  • 27. PERSONNEL CREW: What is you team? Who is in it? What are each team members strengths/weaknesses? When are they available? •I am the camera man. CAST: Do you need any external performers? When are they available? Cost implications? Will you have to feed them? Transport them? •I have my friend who is going to be the main character of the music video, I will include a couple videos featuring me but it will mostly be the boy. Other personnel? Is anyone else helping you?- I might get someone else to film the shots that both people need to be in but if nobody can I will set it up on a tripod or something else.
  • 28. PROPS/COSTUME/ETC •I won't have any specific costumes, just casual clothing that you would wear on a day-to-day basis. I wont have any props in my video.
  • 30. PRE-PRODUCTION: VISUAL PLANNING This section is concerned with the visual planning of your music video You should use this section to develop the sequencing or your video, establish the relationship between the visuals and the track itself and create a structure for you to follow when filming It is important that you ‘pre-visualize’ the video before you make it; it will make filming and production a more streamlined process The following tasks are part of your visual planning  Pre-visualization and concept boards  Storyboarding  Shot list
  • 31. PRE- VISUALISATION/CONC EPT BOARDS Tool for exploring the direction and visuals Provides inspiration and information for the “look & feel” Presents key moments in your video A means to sketch/plan ideas Information on colour/lighting Defining the “mise-en-scene” Include as much here as you like, but keep it relevant to the production, the following slides have been left blank for you to approach in your own way, add more as you need to Extension suggestion: edit a short sequence of clips that have inspired or influenced your video [similar to this: http://io9.com/5941145/this-directors-video-pitch-for-hunger- games-might-be-better-than-the-real-movie]
  • 32. RIP-O-MATIC You should also construct a 15-20second Rip-o-matic test reel using existing footage to convey the type of video you want to make
  • 33. STRUCTU RAL BREAKDO WN Breakdown your track into it basic sections [e.g. intro, verse, chorus, verse, etc] and apply broad visual ideas to each section You can use this as the master template for your production, then add more shots to each section when you develop your full visual plan You should create a slide showing all the sections of the song, then add a slide for each section with timings, lyrics, what happens and details on specific shots You could storyboard and shot list each section as you go, to break up the process.
  • 34. STORYBOAR DING Your storyboard should bring your idea to life Provide an idea of the sequencing of you video Provides a basis for production Suggested online storyboard creators are:  https://www.storyboardthat.com  http://www.pixton.com [very complicated]  http://www.storyjumper.com [allows you to insert your own images] Alternatively, hand draw or photograph your storyboard and scan or copy to insert it onto your slides There are lots of tips collected together on Blackboard! page. Instead, ask your teacher for their "Join Class" link and sign up there.

  • 36. SHOT LIST Your shot list should contain the sequential breakdown of what you need to shoot for your video It should work in partnership with your storyboard It will be your working document when you film It should contain the shot number, scene number, shot description, framing and action you will see It should also have information on performers in the scene and other props, etc Shot list template is on Blackboard in the pre-production folder.
  • 38. PRODUCTION GROUP INFO Include names, contact info, and defined roles at difference stages of production, using a table is suggested Names Job Elli Camera Man Dan Lead Singer
  • 39. LOCATION INFORMAT ION Information and images of your location[s] for filming You should have address details, clearance/premissions for filming, recce photos and floorplans [including camera, equipment and cast/crew layouts] Where possible, have a plan B fallback location option Assess each location for any issues and suggest solutions
  • 40. LOCATIONS Leeds City I will be getting shots at the Royal Armouries and bridges close by and other surroundings/buildings that are close. Also there will be shots on main roads in Kirkstall and car parks around this area.
  • 41. RISK ASSESSM ENT Risk Assess each separate filming location using the table in the camera H&S PP on Bb as a staring point Completing a generic filming assessment would be a start, then you can add specialist/site specific risks as you progress your production Remember, a Risk Assessment is an ongoing document, you should evaluate if anything changes in production and when you put control measures in place You should add the table to each call sheet for each location
  • 42. RISK ASSESSMENT •Be careful not to fall over when filming in the dark locations and at nighttime. •I will probably be filming on the pavement which is obviously next to roads, so you have to be careful about not getting near the edge and not getting hit by any cars. •I am filming some of the video on a bridge, so I need to make sure me and people who are helping or around don’t slip and fall or any of the equipment falls off into the water below. •As I am filming at night, there is possible chance of horrible things such as stabbings and me and my cast could get hurt or even witness one. To stop this from happening I will run away and make sure I am not by myself. •My equipment could get stolen. To stop this happening, I will make sure that all the equipment isn’t on show and all packed away in a separate bag.
  • 43. CONTINGENCY PLANNING Things go wrong Your contingency plan is there to give you a backup or to minimise the effect on production You should consider the following areas: Technical, Location, Personnel and Organisational areas [about 5 potential issues for each] Use the form in pre-production folder on Blackboard
  • 44. CONTINGENCY PLAN •I am going to be filming my clips on a camera and my phone for backups and different choices because the two clips will have a big difference. • If it is raining in Leeds when I am filming I am going to have to record all the bits I need inside first and then finish with the outside stuff when I can. I will probably try get the outside scenes done Thursday or Friday because that’s the days not raining. I want to film outside during and after the sunset. • I could lose all my footage if I break my camera/gets stolen or if the SD card fails. • My footage could be really blurry which would not look good with the effect I want to use because that already blurs it out abit.
  • 45. PRODUCTION SCHEDULE Your schedule should budget a total of 10 hours for production, that is for the filming and editing of your project. You should plan when you’re filming and how you intend to use the in class days on your timetable/class schedule
  • 46. SCHEDULE Monday- Start filming for my music video. Tuesday- Continue filming if I need to. Wednesday- If I have finished shooting, I will look at all the clips and make sure I have everything I need, if I don’t, I will have to shoot the stuff at the weekend or whenever my cast is next available. Monday- I should have got everything by this point so I will begin editing. Tuesday- Upload all my footage onto the computer/ one drive and begin editing. Wednesday- Edit until I have finished.
  • 47. CLEARANCE AND PERMISSIONS Any place you film and anyone you use in the filming of your video must have a completed form Blank forms are available for you to complete and insert here, you can also create your own
