1. Particle-Resolved Simulation with a
Mixture Model to Study the Effects
of Humidity
A preliminary steady-state CFD simulation was
completed in ANSYS Fluent 2021R2 on a particle-resolved
packed bed of spherical particles. Defaults were selected
for the phase interaction drag coefficient and
evaporation-condensation models.
3. Psychrometric Process
The psychrometric chart shows the approximate
upstream and downstream humidity content.

7. Performance
100% humidity
When compared against dry-air simulations, the preliminary
humid-air coefficient of performance is within 10%.
Although a 10% performance difference may be considered
nominal, the increase in liquid content merits further
investigation.
This preliminary study identifies an opportunity of future
work that can be completed on our Natural Heat Exchange
Engineering Technology for Mines project. We are currently
