4. SpinMedia
SpinMedia are responsible for publishing well known hip hop
magazine VIBE. They first bought VIBE back in 2013 as a hip
hop and rap magazine (which it still is today). This seemed to
be a new kind of project for SpinMedia as before they only
really published their own magazine (Spin). This magazine
covered the majority of the popular genres in music. So it
seems as though they went down the route of the most popular
genre of current times which lead to where they are today. I feel
like SpinMedia could publish my magazine as it fits my target
audience almost perfectly as well as my chosen genre. I feel as
though they really developed VIBE magazine since 2013 and I
think that if they could do that with my magazine it would help
the magazine grow so much.
5. The ideal publisher
The ideal publication company for my magazine would have to be
a fashionable, artistic and well educated company. Similar to the
minds of the publishers of FADER Magazine, my personal favorite
of all of my researched magazine. For me simplicity is key which
seems to be conventional but to a certain extent and FADER
execute this perfectly. To my understanding FADER is not yet
owned by a publishing company, just two main publishers. Most
magazines specific to this genre follow suit of this style of
publication. Not many are owned by a publication company and
seem to just do their own thing, but I feel like having my magazine
published by an already established company would really put it
out there and help boost the initial start up phase of the whole
’ICON’ movement.
