MAIN TASK EVALUATION
HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
CHALLENGE/CONFORM TO CONVENTIONS OF
REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
I based my product on other magazines that use a simple, modern
style, I think that I emulated this style successfully by using nude
and simple colours, as well as using a minimalist approach by
using less text so that my magazine didn't appear busy or
tasteless, I also decided to use multiple font styles to make my
magazine appear more physically appealing, I aimed to make it
appear as a product that people can enjoy as a relaxing agent. In
this sense I would say that my magazine doesn't challenge forms
of conventions of real media products.
An example of a magazine
with poor taste.
An example of a
sophisticated magazine.
HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT
PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
I think my media product represents the higher social groups as I
would like to think that it would feature higher end products that
wealthy people would be able to purchase, I also think that my
magazine relates to readers in the way that they can aspire to the
content or gain more knowledge about stars that they already are a
fan of. I also think that the type of music content (which is the
imagines main focus) can relate to younger people as the music
that would be covered would be modern.
WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT
DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT, WHY?
I would like my magazine distributor to be Hearst UK, I chose this
company because they publish a wide range of magazines, one of
which being the magazine I emulated in my own work, ELLE.
I like this magazine company as the magazine brands they
distribute tend to be very successful, and I also believe that my
magazine would fit in as it is similar to other magazines they
produce.
Some examples of the brands that Hearst represents.
WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR
MEDIA PRODUCT?
I would aim for my product to be consumed by either gender,
although predominantly women, ages 16 to 35, I would've thought
that the style of my magazine would attract the skilled working
class and other higher social groups as it has a particular style that
I think would attract these types of people. I do not think that my
magazine would be pursued by any particular region in particular
although I believe that the readers should be able to read English.
HOW DID YOU ATTRACTED/ADDRESS YOUR
AUDIENCE?
By using a particular colour scheme and set out, I think I have
created a sophisticated and attractive way of attracting and
addressing my desired target audience. I also think that my target
audience would find the content and featuring artists and articles
appealing. For example, in Young and Rubicam’s 4Cs model, I
would put my target audience in the ‘Succeeder’ category, as they
suit my desired target audience, and think that the idea of them
‘needing to relax occasionally’ suits the purpose of my product.
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT
TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF
CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?
In my opinion my Photoshop skills have
greatly advanced through creating this
product as I have had to learn the different
features and how to manipulate my work to
create what I wanted, and from doing this I
feel much more confident compared to prior
to creating my media product. I also feel
that my photography skills have improved
as I also had to learn how to adjust camera
settings as well as having to create the right
angle and picture to suit the editing needs.
