I asked15 people whatgendertheyare,sothatI could base my CD cover arounda particularartist
whichwouldappeal tothe majorityof people Isurveyed,inthiscase Iinterviewed67% female (just
over2/3), thistherefore showsthatmymusicvideo will be majorityaimedatfemalesalthoughIwill
still include aspectswhichwillappeal tomalesaswell,asalthoughtheyonlyobtained33% of the
results,thatwasalso downtome surveying notasmany of them.
I asked15 people howoldtheyare,soI couldtargetmy audience seeingwhatage mostcommonly
listenedtoindie/popmusicandwouldbe interestedinbuyinganewlyreleasedindietrack.The most
commonage groupI interviewedwere16-25,as 67% I surveyedwere thisage. However,36-45 year
oldsdidn’tcomplete anyquestionnaires,soIwill therefore have noinformationabouttheir
customerneeds,therefore myCDwill notbe targetedtowardsthem(thoughsome of the ideasthey

From thisparticularquestion,Icanquite clearlysee thatpopwasthe mytarget audience’sfavourite
genre with35%, followednarrowlywithindieat34%. Thisis beneficial tomyresearchasI was going
to go withan indie/popmusicvideobeforehandandthese resultsconfirmthatmytarget audience
like thisgenre andthatit wouldworksuccessfully.Icanalsotake fromthese resultsthe soul wasthe
thirdfavourite with15%and therefore Imightinclude elementsof soul withinmyvideoaswell in
orderto appeal to others,thereforemakingmymusicvideoappealto84% of mytarget audience
overall.

Thisparticularpie chart showsme that 91% (42% Everyday+35% 2-3 timesa week+14% 2-3 timesa
month= 91%) of my target audience watchmusicvideos,with42% of themwatchingthem
everyday.Thiswasuseful asIwas thenable toget a more in depthresponse whenaskingthem
questionssuchas ‘What settingsdoyoulike tosee inmusicvideosandwhy?’thereforeasIhave a
vast amountof people whowatchmusicvideosalotI was givenaveryin depthanswertothis
particularquestionandwasgiven several unique responsesone beingCuba,therefore itshowsthat
by mytarget audience watchingseveral differentmusicvideosperday,thattheyas consumersare
alsogivendifferentconnotationsandthattheywatchmusicvideosdailyasa hobbyandsomething
to pass the time by.
Overall,mytargetaudience’sfavouritemusicvideowasMichael Jackson – Thrillerasthisachieved
20% of the votesout of 12 responsesgiventothisparticularquestion.Theyclaimeditwastheir
favourite musicvideoas‘itwasbefore it’stime’and‘itofferedsomethingnew’,noticeablyitwas
bothparticipantsoverthe age of 56+ and the 46-55 participantswhosaidthatthiswas their
favourite musicvideo.Thisisinterestingasthis wasobviouslyasongfrom their time periodasitwas
releasedin1982 thismaysuggestthat whentheygotolderandhad other commitments thatthey
stoppedwatchingmusicvideosastheysimplydidn’t getthe time anymore,forexampleif we
assume thatthe participantwhoisinthe 46-55 yearoldcategory wasborn in1969, thentheywould
have been13 whenthe songwasreleased,thereforethiscouldexplainthe factinwhichthis
particularsongsignalledanewerafor musicvideosandcouldalsoresemblethe factthatthey
stoppedwatchingmusicvideoswhentheygotolderalthoughthey mighthave still listenedtothem
on the radiofor example.ItwasalsonoticeablethatTaylorSwift hadthree differentsongsinthe
favourite musicvideocategory,the factinwhichshe hasthree differentsongsresemblesthe factin
whichshe appealsto 16-25 yearoldsand theywere the categoryinwhichwe surveyedthe most.
The reasonsas to whypeople like hermusicvideossomuchare because they’re ‘engaging’ and
because ‘the lyricsare relatable’.

type of artist I am goingforas JessGlynne isanindie/popandsoul singerwhoisone of the artists
we are tryingto be like aswell asaccommodatingotherartiststyleswithinourmusicvideoaswell.
Highbudgetmusicvideos,appeal to73% of my targetaudience andtherefore theylike elements
such as vibrantcoloursanda betterqualityproduction.Withabetterqualityproduction,Imake
sure the camera and equipmentIam usingisup to the beststandardpossible,thisisimportantso
that I can give myaudience aclear cut musicvideoinwhichtheyare lookingforandso that the
vibrantcolourscome across inthe wayinwhichtheyare hopingfor.

My questionnaire hasshownme thatmytargetaudience like musicvideoswhichare relatable with
73% answering‘yes’tothe question.Therefore,Iamgoingto relate the lyricsof the song to real life
experiencessothatmyaudience canrelate tothe songand feel apartof the musicvideo.Hopefully,
if thisis done successfullyandtoa highstandardthe 14% whoanswered‘No’maychange their
minds.

Overall,mytargetaudience’sfavouritemusicvideowasMichael Jackson – Thrillerasthisachieved 20% of the votesout of 12 responsesgiventothisparticularquestion.Theyclaimeditwastheir favourite musicvideoas‘itwasbefore it’stime’and‘itofferedsomethingnew’,noticeablyitwas bothparticipantsoverthe age of 56+ and the 46-55 participantswhosaidthatthiswas their favourite musicvideo.Thisisinterestingasthis wasobviouslyasongfrom their time periodasitwas releasedin1982 thismaysuggestthat whentheygotolderandhad other commitments thatthey stoppedwatchingmusicvideosastheysimplydidn’t getthe time anymore,forexampleif we assume thatthe participantwhoisinthe 46-55 yearoldcategory wasborn in1969, thentheywould have been13 whenthe songwasreleased,thereforethiscouldexplainthe factinwhichthis particularsongsignalledanewerafor musicvideosandcouldalsoresemblethe factthatthey stoppedwatchingmusicvideoswhentheygotolderalthoughthey mighthave still listenedtothem on the radiofor example.ItwasalsonoticeablethatTaylorSwift hadthree differentsongsinthe favourite musicvideocategory,the factinwhichshe hasthree differentsongsresemblesthe factin whichshe appealsto 16-25 yearoldsand theywere the categoryinwhichwe surveyedthe most.
