2. Key Theories Used Within Essay –
3/9/14
Before writing my essay on ‘Discuss the ways film openings draw
in their audiences’ , I first had to research the key terminology
theories used within films in order to fit the criteria needed.
This task enabled me to get an understanding of what techniques
are required within film openings. By doing this additional
research before coming to write my essay, I believe that this
enabled me to consider why certain film openings use certain
techniques in their openings and what the effect this has on their
audience.
3. Summer Essay – 3/9/14
Today I wrote my essay based on the question ‘Discuss the ways
film openings draw in their audiences’
I feel that my essay was successful as previously to constructing
the essay I researched all of the key film theories. By doing this it
enabled me to apply them in my essay, therefore developing my
knowledge as to why certain theories are used in certain genres
of films.
This task will help me when constructing my own film opening as
I will now be able to apply some of these key theories, therefore I
will be appealing to a certain age group.
By doing this essay, it has enabled me to have a better
understanding of terms which I am probably going to be using
throughout the course, therefore it has put me in good stead for
creating my opening.
4. Mood Board – 7/9/14
Today I created my horror movie mood board, by doing this it
allowed me to research/consider what costumes, lighting, actors,
make-up, props and settings go into horror films.
This therefore has made me have a clearer understanding of all
things horror and I can now offer more to our target audience
based connotations of horror films.
This task was beneficial as it enabled me to see what aspects of
Mise-En-Scene go into horror films. when I come to create my
horror opening.
5. Short comparison with another
film – 7/9/14
Today I compared my potential opening with ‘The Purge’, from
doing this I saw the similarities and differences between the two
films and way in which I could improve my potential opening to
get it to be more like an existing film opening.
This will help me when I come to make my final film opening as I
am now aware of all of the connotations/elements which make up
a popular horror movie.
This task made me see the similarities and differences between
my film idea and an existing popular film in 'The Purge' therefore,
I can already see the what areas I need to improve upon before
coming to make my own film opening.
6. Film synopsis – 7/9/14
Today I planned my film synopsis, this is helpful as I have a
stable concept/idea to focus in on. This is helpful for when I come
to make my final opening as I have an idea already in mind and
changes will be easier to construct as a result of this.
This task enabled me to get more of a sense for the type of film
in which I am going for.
7. Storyboard – 7/9/14
Today I planned my storyboard with 12 different scenes, by doing
this I now have a clearer view of what I want to happen and how
I want this to come across throughout my opening.
This was very useful as it made me think about what the
audience would like to see in the opening and how I could go
about doing this in an effective/successful way.
This task helped me to think about the horror genre more as it
made me consider different aspects in which make it up, it also
helped me to get sense of what I wanted to happen in each scene
and how I wanted to portrayed/to happen.
8. Character Profiles – 7/9/14
Today I have put together suitable character profiles for my
horror film. By doing this it gave me a clearer idea of what
costumes my characters will need to wear in order to fully
represent their genre character in my film e.g. the popular one.
This will help me when constructing my opening as I have a clear
view/connotation of how I want each of the characters to be in
order for them to give off the horror genre connotations to the
audience potentially watching my horror opening.
This particular task made me look into each of my character's
Mise-En-Scene in more detail. Allowing me to further develop my
skills.
9. Script for your opening – 7/9/14
Today I put together the script for my opening, doing this enabled
me to reinforce the characters roles and how I want to present
them once I begin filming my final piece.
This also allowed me to consider what makes a script and how to
format it correctly when making my own.
This task enabled me to stereotype each individual character in
more depth, adding to their Mise-En-Scene.
10. Reflection Log – 7/9/14
This task made me reflect on all of the work I did before and over
the course of the summer. By doing work before we came back to
school to do our AS Media, I feel as is I have gained some vital
and much necessary skills over the holidays.
This task also made me consider ways to improve and reflect
upon my work, allowing me to add further understanding to my
work.
This task was beneficial as it made me reflect on the progress
made so far and enabled me to think about how completing the
summer work may help me when its comes to making my own
film opening.
