Test photography
 For my test photography I took several different pictures in different
locations so that I could see which looked the best. Then I will use this
photo in Photoshop where I may add an edit before it gets transferred in
to my main double page spread or front cover. Also test photography
helped me to build up ideas of where I am going to take my final picture
as the previous photos where just a practices to how well I looked in
front of the camera etc.
Final photo for
my double page
spread after
being edited

House style and Color Scheme
Color Scheme
My color scheme for the magazine I prefer is Red, Black and White.
This is because I liked the look of Q magazines magazine which is the
same colors and it looked very clean and smart looking so I decided to
do the same.
Font Style
The font style I am using is Obelix pro for main headings and titles.
This is because it goes with my rap theme and for people who don’t
already know the magazine, when they first see it this will help them
to tell what genre the magazine is, this is due to the fact that the font
looks a bit like graffiti but a neater version which could convey to the
audience that my genre of my magazine is rap.. This font also looks
very unique which is what I wanted on my magazine.
Setting up equipment for my photo
shoot
 Firstly, in my photo-shoot I used a specific
camera which was called the d3200 Nikon
DSLR camera, which is a top of the range
camera which specifically focus on getting the
best photographs as possible by using a setting
called autofocus , this camera is worth
roughly around £230 where as the tripod that I
used to hold the camera cost around £20 this
tripod was called a Velbon DF-41 tripod.
Lighting is no issue for this camera with its
advanced settings as you can change the time
of day on the camera so therefore it will need
more lighting gin the night where as if the
picture was taken during the day.
Pre production material
 Pre-production materials work done on a product, especially
a film or broadcast programmed, before full-scale
production begins. Hand drawn drafts were changed so it
looked more professional and attractive for the audience.
You essentially do pre production material to plan for your
product, it is essential because it helps you to gather
information on what you want to do an gives you rough
guidelines which could save you money in the long term as
you may have prevented a mistake from occurring. Also my
rap theme in my magazine article was conveyed in my cover
stories but I didn't’t used any props to illustrate this to the
audience.
Operating desktop publishing
skills.Firstly, to start of my front cover I had to set up the page which is A4, then adding ruler lines so that
everything that you are inputting is in line. Then I started of my creating a box so the barcode could
easily fit inside of it, with the social media links such as: instagram, Facebook and lastly twitter, I
done this by getting the images of the internet and transferred them straight to my front cover
which I had to make them smaller, so they could therefore fit inside the box. Also I had to include
the issue date which I done this by using the T button on the tool bar and then created the text box
which I then typed the date into the text box.
Secondly, before starting to do any other conventions it is essential to insert your
background this is due to the fact that it will be easier later on when finishing of the
front cover. I started of creating my background. Firstly by setting up a page then going
format background then choosing the color and gradient that you want.
Now you have added a background and barcode, you can add in a masthead to the front cover. This can
be done by downloading a specific font that you want from a website called ‘da font’ this will be
installing in the downloading section of the mac, click on the font that is downloading and press ‘install
font’ and then you can type the title that you want.
Then this step is when you need to take a picture of whoever you want to feature in
your magazine. This needs to be done by a picture being taken on a hd camera and
using the memory stick that you insert to the back of the computer. To neaten up the
edges of the picture use the quick selection tool which will get rid of the background
as well.
To make the front cover look more like a magazine, you can add a
headline, puff promotion, quotes, featured artist
Operating DTP tools continued
The quick selection tool is a specific tool that is
used in adobe Photoshop when you have and
image with a background that you may want
remove, this can furthermore can be used in
my project when I took a picture where the
background decrease the quality of the photo,
so in this case I used the quick selection tool to
remove a brick wall background which I ended
up with this photograph on the right.
Also the airbrush tool was used in the photo above as well
which is the photograph that I used for my double page
spread. The air brush tool was used to make my photos
smoother and softer round the edges which makes the
photo look a better quality making it more professional.
Step by step summary Double
page spread.
You will have to repeat the same process that you would of done with the front cover by setting up the canvas that
you would like and add in your ruler lines to make sure that your layout is all in line. Also you can change the
background if you would like to change it.
Like you would have done for your front cove you need to add in your masthead, but not the strapline this is because
this is only convention for the front cover. At the bottom of the page you can add page numbers to make it look like a
double page spread in a magazine.
Now that the basics are in place it will be time to add in your main image, you can do this by going to file, place and
adding in the picture you want and also edit it to how you like it and until you think it looks up to standard.
After adding in your picture it will be time to add in your text for your article. The first section of the text can be the
quote this is because if you want to put text around the quote you can do this easier if the quote is already imputed.
By adding in your quote in first, this can also allow you to add in the stand verse, when adding in the stand verse you
will need to create a drop capital, you will do this by creating a text box and type in the first letter of the word that
is going to start your text. And then you will need to go down the pen tool(15th) bar down and click around some of
the sides of your letters and then carry on making a text box where you want your stand verse to go. And then after
that type all of the rest of your text for the paragraph.
Use the text tool bar to add in any text that you would like that may boost your magazines appearance, also another
convention that you may want to add which will also boost your magazines appearance will be to change your text
colour to any colour that you think looks the best. If you want to change the width or height of the writing in the
magazine front cover, highlight over it and click ‘windows’ at the top of the screen and go to the characters.
For puff promotions, repeat the steps of adding a shape then place the text on top, and follow the previous steps
before if you feel like you need to change the colour of your writing or the length and width of your writing which
will overall boost the appearance of your magazine.

Deadlines
to have my deadline for the launch of my magazine in the production plan in
previous slides it is seen as Wednesday the 7th January 2017, which I would have
come to the terms that I have met this deadline. The longest part of creating my
magazine was doing the planning out for my magazine because I had very few
ideas of how I was going start it and what genre I was going to do, who I was
going to interview ect.
Post Production Skills
 Photoshop CS5.1 was the application that I used to create my front cover and double
page spread. This is furthermore because the editing on Photoshop is advanced and
therefore it will make my front cover and dps as professional as possible. I used
advanced skills like pushing test past pictures which attracts the reader to want to read
the interview because it looks more attractive and interesting for the reader of that
specific magazine. Furthermore, in my dps I used a drop capita to attract the audience
to want to start to read the cover stories/ interview as the big ‘H’ draws the reader to
glance at this section of the dps. Also the eraser tool and vertical type tool are two
specific tools that I used within Photoshop to create my front cover and dps which both
of these were used. The horizontal type tool is used to create text boxes which allow
you to type information on to your page but horizontal will be seen as a text box that
goes further across than down. Where as vertical is seen as down more than across.
Proof reading and sub editing
 On my double paged spread, I made sure that I proof read my work to ensure
that there was no errors. For example if there was a spelling mistake I would
of noticed this when prof reading and changed to this to make sure that I get
a good grade because if there are spelling mistakes or grammar mistakes this
could furthermore lower my grade. For example when proof reading my work
I found a spelling mistake of presentation as u can see in the bottom left
which then I furthermore corrected to ensure that I I didn’t drop marks due to
spelling mistakes.
Colour
Colour in my front cover and my double page spread, it is essential that all the colours
that I am using are exactly the same colour and even the same tone. This is essential
because if you are trying to use the same colours in your front cover but some of the
colours are darker than others this will therefore make the audience, or who ever is
looking at my magazine this will make them think that it my magazine is
unprofessional.
Changes
For one improvement for my front cover
magazine Also another improvement that I
changed form my front cover was that my
‘$TACKZ’ headline was too far down the
front cover behind the main image. So to
change this I had to raise the masthead a
little margin higher so that it look a little
bit more profession so that the main image
wasn’t covering the title.
‘On your front cover all your cover lines on the left
and right hand side must line up, this is an essential
correction because if all the cover lines don’t like up
it makes the front cover look unprofessional and
makes the front cover not look as good as it should do,
so therefore I moved the cover lines so that it meets
up with the ruler lines/margins which this now looks
much better as you can see in the after picture.
One of my changes production plan and my front cover, I had a different launch date from which I put on my front cover-
01/02/2017, when really the product will be getting launched on the 07/01/2017. Furthermore, this is an essential
correction due to the fact that if I uploaded my magazine with the wrong launch date then this will make my business un-
professional due to the fact that the magazine would have come out on that specific date.
Hand drawn drafts
have chosen this front cover draft as my
final one because it is neat and modern
looking. Having only 3 colours makes the
whole cover look better as there are not
loads of colours and everything matches.
Having black, white and red makes the
cover look nice as black and white are plain
colours and red is obviously brighter,
making my logo specifically stand out more.
Also having everything spread out on the
page makes it look much better.
Hand drawn drafts
I have chosen this front cover draft as my
final one for $tackz magazine because of
the layout. I like having the main image
and the headline merging together so the
reader knows who the main person is in
the article. Also having the cover lines next
to the main image shows who the main
artist is in the article and that the cover
lines are not covered as much as the main
artist in the middle. Also having 3 colours
only makes the magazine appealing and
smarter looking.
Hand drawn drafts
The first hand drawn draft I chose for One
magazine is to have the masthead in the
top left corner. This makes the magazine
look more unique and modern as I also
have only 3 colors within the magazine.
Once again I have the cover lines next to
the main image to prove the main image is
the main artist in the whole magazine.
Hand drawn drafts
I have chosen this front cover draft as my
final one because it is neat and modern
looking. Having only 3 colours makes the

Having black, white and red makes the

Hand drawn drafts
I have also chosen this
hand drawn draft
because of the there is
a nice amount of space
for a image and I liked
this draft because I
think the large image
stands out and the
interview is easily
readable.
Hand drawn drafts
I have chose this double page
draft as my final one for RapCity
magazine because I think having
a large image on one page and
the interview on the other makes
it more appealing to the reader. It
also makes it look a lot neater
and smarter looking because
everything is so spread out.
Hand drawn drafts
I have also chosen this hand
drawn draft because of the
huge image on the left and
the way the interview is set
out. I liked this draft because I
think the large image stands
out and the interview is easily
readable. This way the reader
will know who the interview is
about because there will be a
large image covering the left
page.
I have chosen this one as my
final draft for One magazine
because I liked the way it is set
out. Having a large image on the
left page makes it easily
recognizable to who the
interview is about and it also
stands out to the reader. Having
the interview on the left makes it
look neater and more attractive
because everything is so spread
out and not all close together.
This also makes it easier for the
reader when reading all the
questions and answers.

Royalties
 A royalty is a payment made by one party, the licensee or franchisee
to another that owns a particular asset, the licensor or franchisor
for the right to ongoing use of that asset. The NLA newspaper
licensing company is where content from a specific magazine has
been copyrighted and if someone else in another magazine uses this
specific information then they will have to pay the first publisher
which is essential for them, as they created it. Furthermore, the
NLA make sure that each publisher gets their royalties which in this
case will be money. Q magazine royalty will be Bauer Media which
both will be subscribed to the NLA.

Printing costs of the magazine
The final order To purchase 15,000 magazine copies at a good
quality it would add up to around £4612.92 so roughly it will be
around £3.50 each which I will be selling my magazine at around
£4.00each so I wouldn’t be able to make as much as profit as I would
like to make so next time I will need to order more copies so that the
overall price will be reduced and therefore I will make more money in
total.

copyright
Copyright is a legal means of protecting an author's work. It is a type of
intellectual property that provides publication, distribution, and usage rights for the
author. This means whatever content the author created cannot be used or
published by anyone else without the consent of the author. The length of
copyright protection may vary from country to country, but it usually lasts for the
life of the author plus 50 to 100 years.
The copy right law which changed in 1998, copyright gives certain legal protection
to authors of materials, this also allows an employee to have their own rights for
photocopying from a paper version then converted in to a book.

Legal Issues
 This link here describes how Bauer media wants free-lances which
is there employees and they want them to take away their rights to
be references in Bauer Media, therefore they will need to sign a
contract so they don’t need to reference anyone which will mean
this will take away their rights. Because of this many righters and
photographers have written to Bauer Media stating that they will not
work for them unless they take away the new contract and they will
carry on worming their again this is essential for Bauer Media as they
will have lost around 200 workers if they didn’t remove the
contract.

Distribution to retailer
I am going to distribute my magazine to all of the big
superstores like WHSmith and Tesco as thousands of people
shop here every day, and WHSmith is a huge shop for
magazines so this will therefore be the place that people
will go to buy magazines if they wanted one.

Connotations behind name of magazine
The connotations of the name RapCity is called this is because
RapCity can be conveyed to be the city where all rappers are
based which could illustrate to the audience that this magazine
will contain all the best rappers.
The connotations of the name $tackz is purely to the fact that
‘$tacks’ in slang means a lot of money so this name could
illustrate to the audience that the people featuring in my
magazine will be good rappers who have a lot of money.
$TACKZ and RapCity Magazine front cover
$tackz Double page spread
RapCity Double page spread
Final changes to double page spread
I have also added in magazine
credits at the top of the double
page spread to convey to the
audience who has helped me to
build up this page also I've
added in credits to the
interviewer of my double page
spread and the photographer.
I also added in a page number because in my magazine inspiration there was a page
number, and in the process of creating this spread I was told to use my magazine
inspiration to get small ideas and copy them over to make my double page spread
look better and more professional.
Facebook Advertisement
I created a Facebook page for my magazine
$tackz, which this could furthermore help
with the advertisement side of my magazine,
due to the fact that so many people use
Facebook on a daily basis so therefore this
will get my magazine out there.
Rapcity Facebook advertisement
I used Facebook as my
advertisement due to the fact
that Facebook is a big part of
social media at the moment
therefore I feel like this could
boost my business alot.
FAVOURITE MAGAZINE
I like the slogan I used for this front cover magazine,
which states’ the city that won’t let you down’ which
is similar to my title ‘Rapcity’ which can illustrate
that all the best rappers are found in this specific city
which is all featured in this specific magazine which
is furthermore, why this is the best magazine.
I also got 50 cent to feature in the
magazine because this will attract a
large target audience In the rap section
of music this is because ‘50 cent’ is a
big figure in rap so therefore people
will want to read the magazine due to
the fact that he features in the
magazine.
Also I like the fact that I
created a barcode for the
magazine due to the fact
that it makes it look very
professional.
Also stating that customers who buy my
magazine have a chance of winning 50
cent tickets, this furthermore this will
boost my chances of selling more
magazines and making the specific
magazine more popular.
I like the look of this magazine
double page spread due to the fact
of the stroke of the background and
the main headline go together well.
Also I like the way that I made the image push the text out of the way of the
fingers at the bottom, which makes the double page spread look more
professional due to the fact that the writing goes around the fingers. Also I like
the fact that I also included a page number and the social media which also ups
the standards of my double page spread as well, due to the fact it makes it look
real, Asif someone has actually created it and implemented it into a magazine,
which conveys that I done a good job.
Above the line marketing
 Above the line Marketing is where media promotes your business
trying to reach out to the target audience trying to attract them to
buy or subscribe to the magazine company. These can include
conventions such as radio, television, the press, newspaper and
magazines etc. Above the line is all about brand awareness trying to
get people to get familiar with their magazine. Also for above the line
you will need to include frequency due to the audience wanting to
know how often the magazines get released.
Below the line marketing
 Below the line is a cheaper method,
rather than using above the line that
is seen as much more expensive.
Below the line marketing is where a
business will use methods such as
posters, leaflets, banners and
broachers so that they can advertise
their product and try to increase
their target audience so that they
get more sales.
 Below the line marketing is targeted
at a specific audience this is because
most of the customers would take
interest in the advertisement so
therefore this will be seen as a waste
of money.
Masthead ideas
Masthead
$TACKZ
RapCity
$tackz can convey how much money
an individual has, furthermore in
this way it will be illustrating that
someone who is in the magazine has
lot of money from music.
All the best

specific city
e.g
somewhere
in London.
Sectioned
All of the best artists are
sectioned off in to this
magazine which will
convey that this magazine
will contain all the best
artists.
Music
madness
Music madness could convey that all of
the music released in this magazine may
be seen to the audience as a madness,
which could attract more people to want
to read the magazine.
All of these names
on this slide were
ideas that I
thought that I
could of used for
my masthead on
my magazine, but I
ended up using

Interview draft
 Hello, how are you?
 I'm good thanks mate, you?
 Good, whens your tour at the 02 then?
 14th of December , going to get shutdown bro you should come.
 Where you going to go on tour first?
 London man, my hometown, where I first started music, where I met my pals from music.
 If the tickets are still available, who are your special guests?
 I got a couple people rolling through, that’s on the low though.
 Fair enough, whens the album dropping as well can’t wait for that to drop.
 That’s a little bit after the tour man, thinks its early January trust it will be sick think I got about 7 to 8 songs coming out on that album, when it drops I will send you a
copy for free man.
 Much appreciated mate, can’t wait for the tour and the album.
 Yh neither can I bro, I am struggling to right lyrics at the moment am going through quite a bad time in the music industry that’s why I haven’t been releasing much man.
 Why what has happened, catch me up I haven’t spoken with you in ages!
 Basically, cut a long story short I done a bad thing went too prison but that’s all in the past I am a changed man now want to carry on writing music.
 When you came out of prison, was the songs that you released about the life in their, because I can imagine you was writing a lot whilst you was in their, about how hard
life was at that specific time?
 Yeah man, whilst your in their it is different to how you would think, if you haven’t been in prison then you won’t realize how hard life is in there, but when I was in their
yes I did write a couple songs one of which is on YouTube now called jail pain, it is just all about life in there and how very few people visited me and the poor quality of
food that I was eating ect, also I am on the process of writing a track which will be part 2 when I went back in prison soon after.
 Oh no, I never heard the first jail pain but I will look at it later, someone told me about a prison song coming out with you, I can’t wait mate im really looking forward to it.
 Yes it will be lit bro trust me on that one, but honestly keep holding tight because my new ep is coming out which 5 new hot tracks are going to be coming out in a couple
months.
 Yes that is what I like to hear, the old you is coming back and with more progression, when was the last song out then if you been in prison for this whole time?
 My last song must off been a good year back and a half ago, on link up TV making money featuring young trapper. The one that was recorded on the top of the building do
you remember?
 Yes mate, I do remember now that was ages ago, nice speaking to you anyway.
Prop list
 For my photographs for my issue, I didn’t need any more equipment or any props. This is
because I only need a camera and the individual that is going to be In the picture.
Therefore this specific person will need a few different outfits in able to have a variety
of different photos which will allow me to pick out of a variety of pictures. The camera
that was used for my photography was a Nikon D3300 Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm
this is due to the fact that I want my photo’s to as professional as possible. I borrowed
this camera from school as they have the best quality cameras around.
 If I was to have some props in my magazine I would have some musical instruments like a
microphone to make it look more professional and more of a music magazine.

Location Reece
Software risk assessment
 When I was creating my magazine front cover and my dps for my magazines I
made sure that all the segments throughout both magazines I made sure it
looked as professional. For example when inserting an image, and resizing it I
make sure that I hold down the shift key when resizing because if you don’t
follow this procedure then the image may become pixilated and loose the
images quality due to not holding down the shift key so therefore I make sure I
hold it to make my images have the best quality. Another procedure that is
essential to follow is when inserting text to a magazine make sure that a ruler
tool is used so that the writing doesn’t overlap any images which also
furthermore, makes it look unprofessional..
 Lastly, for every magazine that I have created I have used the same colour
scheme so therefore when someone from the audience has already previously
seen my magazine they should be able to recognize it which may boost the
amount of sales that I get because more people may recognize it which may
make them want to buy it.
Hazards at work place
The health and safety act, Often referred to as HASAW or HSW,
this Act of Parliament is the main piece of UK health and safety
legislation. It has 13 different headings and 10 different schedules
which will consist of commissions, regulations and provisions.
These duties are about a specific individual that is employed as is
currently working, but it is the fact that the individual has to be
safe at work and try not to injure themselves and if anything does
occur at work, for example the person working does get injured
then they will have to write down what has happened and if it is a
serious injury then it may have to involve going to the hospital
then it may become more serious. It Is essential that at every
work place that the surroundings and health by every employee
for that specific business gets controlled regularly and if there is
any problems then the manager will need to be informed as soon a
possible.
Ethical and legal issues continued
Ip/watermark- content that usually has been used for copyright can be referred as ‘IP’ which
furthermore means Intellectual property which means that it belongs to someone else but you are
using it for the meanwhile for progress in your work, which this is also protected by the law and
government. IP allows owners and trade markers to be benefitted from their own work and
investment. This is furthermore essential because for my magazine I have not used copyright as all the
work is mine and is protected due to the fact that it has all be wrote by myself.
Royalties- A royalty is a payment to an owner for the use of property, especially patents, copyrighted
works, franchises or natural resources. The NLA newspaper licensing company which sell licenses to
newspaper and now they have started selling magazine contents. If an individual has created some
information that they are using for some work, and another person wants to use this information then
the will have to pay the creator to use this information, which furthermore is what I have done in my
magazine because it contains information that will include original content which will need to be
protected.
Ethical issues- With my magazine if anyone finds that there is a problem in the magazine then they
will have to contact myself to choose whether the alternatives are right with will be ethical or wrong
which is unethical. When releasing my magazine I must make sure that I don’t advertise something
that is false because this could lead to complaints coming in from the audience of your magazine . For
example pricing your magazine wrong by saying on the magazine that it is £2.99 when really it is
getting sold in Tesco for £3.50 which is unethical because you are lying to the audience about how
much you are really selling your magazine at.

Unit 30 l03

  • 1.
  • 2. Test photography  For my test photography I took several different pictures in different locations so that I could see which looked the best. Then I will use this photo in Photoshop where I may add an edit before it gets transferred in to my main double page spread or front cover. Also test photography helped me to build up ideas of where I am going to take my final picture as the previous photos where just a practices to how well I looked in front of the camera etc. Final photo for my double page spread after being edited with background has been taken out by using the quick selection tool.
  • 3. House style and Color Scheme Color Scheme My color scheme for the magazine I prefer is Red, Black and White. This is because I liked the look of Q magazines magazine which is the same colors and it looked very clean and smart looking so I decided to do the same. Font Style The font style I am using is Obelix pro for main headings and titles. This is because it goes with my rap theme and for people who don’t already know the magazine, when they first see it this will help them to tell what genre the magazine is, this is due to the fact that the font looks a bit like graffiti but a neater version which could convey to the audience that my genre of my magazine is rap.. This font also looks very unique which is what I wanted on my magazine.
  • 4. Setting up equipment for my photo shoot  Firstly, in my photo-shoot I used a specific camera which was called the d3200 Nikon DSLR camera, which is a top of the range camera which specifically focus on getting the best photographs as possible by using a setting called autofocus , this camera is worth roughly around £230 where as the tripod that I used to hold the camera cost around £20 this tripod was called a Velbon DF-41 tripod. Lighting is no issue for this camera with its advanced settings as you can change the time of day on the camera so therefore it will need more lighting gin the night where as if the picture was taken during the day.
  • 5. Pre production material  Pre-production materials work done on a product, especially a film or broadcast programmed, before full-scale production begins. Hand drawn drafts were changed so it looked more professional and attractive for the audience. You essentially do pre production material to plan for your product, it is essential because it helps you to gather information on what you want to do an gives you rough guidelines which could save you money in the long term as you may have prevented a mistake from occurring. Also my rap theme in my magazine article was conveyed in my cover stories but I didn't’t used any props to illustrate this to the audience.
  • 6. Operating desktop publishing skills.Firstly, to start of my front cover I had to set up the page which is A4, then adding ruler lines so that everything that you are inputting is in line. Then I started of my creating a box so the barcode could easily fit inside of it, with the social media links such as: instagram, Facebook and lastly twitter, I done this by getting the images of the internet and transferred them straight to my front cover which I had to make them smaller, so they could therefore fit inside the box. Also I had to include the issue date which I done this by using the T button on the tool bar and then created the text box which I then typed the date into the text box. Secondly, before starting to do any other conventions it is essential to insert your background this is due to the fact that it will be easier later on when finishing of the front cover. I started of creating my background. Firstly by setting up a page then going format background then choosing the color and gradient that you want. Now you have added a background and barcode, you can add in a masthead to the front cover. This can be done by downloading a specific font that you want from a website called ‘da font’ this will be installing in the downloading section of the mac, click on the font that is downloading and press ‘install font’ and then you can type the title that you want. Then this step is when you need to take a picture of whoever you want to feature in your magazine. This needs to be done by a picture being taken on a hd camera and using the memory stick that you insert to the back of the computer. To neaten up the edges of the picture use the quick selection tool which will get rid of the background as well. To make the front cover look more like a magazine, you can add a headline, puff promotion, quotes, featured artist
  • 7. Operating DTP tools continued The quick selection tool is a specific tool that is used in adobe Photoshop when you have and image with a background that you may want remove, this can furthermore can be used in my project when I took a picture where the background decrease the quality of the photo, so in this case I used the quick selection tool to remove a brick wall background which I ended up with this photograph on the right. Also the airbrush tool was used in the photo above as well which is the photograph that I used for my double page spread. The air brush tool was used to make my photos smoother and softer round the edges which makes the photo look a better quality making it more professional.
  • 8. Step by step summary Double page spread. You will have to repeat the same process that you would of done with the front cover by setting up the canvas that you would like and add in your ruler lines to make sure that your layout is all in line. Also you can change the background if you would like to change it. Like you would have done for your front cove you need to add in your masthead, but not the strapline this is because this is only convention for the front cover. At the bottom of the page you can add page numbers to make it look like a double page spread in a magazine. Now that the basics are in place it will be time to add in your main image, you can do this by going to file, place and adding in the picture you want and also edit it to how you like it and until you think it looks up to standard. After adding in your picture it will be time to add in your text for your article. The first section of the text can be the quote this is because if you want to put text around the quote you can do this easier if the quote is already imputed. By adding in your quote in first, this can also allow you to add in the stand verse, when adding in the stand verse you will need to create a drop capital, you will do this by creating a text box and type in the first letter of the word that is going to start your text. And then you will need to go down the pen tool(15th) bar down and click around some of the sides of your letters and then carry on making a text box where you want your stand verse to go. And then after that type all of the rest of your text for the paragraph. Use the text tool bar to add in any text that you would like that may boost your magazines appearance, also another convention that you may want to add which will also boost your magazines appearance will be to change your text colour to any colour that you think looks the best. If you want to change the width or height of the writing in the magazine front cover, highlight over it and click ‘windows’ at the top of the screen and go to the characters. For puff promotions, repeat the steps of adding a shape then place the text on top, and follow the previous steps before if you feel like you need to change the colour of your writing or the length and width of your writing which will overall boost the appearance of your magazine.
  • 9. Step by step guide Front Cover Firstly, to start of my front cover I had to set up the page which is A4, then adding ruler lines so that everything that you are inputting is in line.
  • 10. Deadlines to have my deadline for the launch of my magazine in the production plan in previous slides it is seen as Wednesday the 7th January 2017, which I would have come to the terms that I have met this deadline. The longest part of creating my magazine was doing the planning out for my magazine because I had very few ideas of how I was going start it and what genre I was going to do, who I was going to interview ect.
  • 11. Post Production Skills  Photoshop CS5.1 was the application that I used to create my front cover and double page spread. This is furthermore because the editing on Photoshop is advanced and therefore it will make my front cover and dps as professional as possible. I used advanced skills like pushing test past pictures which attracts the reader to want to read the interview because it looks more attractive and interesting for the reader of that specific magazine. Furthermore, in my dps I used a drop capita to attract the audience to want to start to read the cover stories/ interview as the big ‘H’ draws the reader to glance at this section of the dps. Also the eraser tool and vertical type tool are two specific tools that I used within Photoshop to create my front cover and dps which both of these were used. The horizontal type tool is used to create text boxes which allow you to type information on to your page but horizontal will be seen as a text box that goes further across than down. Where as vertical is seen as down more than across.
  • 12. Proof reading and sub editing  On my double paged spread, I made sure that I proof read my work to ensure that there was no errors. For example if there was a spelling mistake I would of noticed this when prof reading and changed to this to make sure that I get a good grade because if there are spelling mistakes or grammar mistakes this could furthermore lower my grade. For example when proof reading my work I found a spelling mistake of presentation as u can see in the bottom left which then I furthermore corrected to ensure that I I didn’t drop marks due to spelling mistakes.
  • 13. Colour Colour in my front cover and my double page spread, it is essential that all the colours that I am using are exactly the same colour and even the same tone. This is essential because if you are trying to use the same colours in your front cover but some of the colours are darker than others this will therefore make the audience, or who ever is looking at my magazine this will make them think that it my magazine is unprofessional.
  • 14. Changes For one improvement for my front cover magazine Also another improvement that I changed form my front cover was that my ‘$TACKZ’ headline was too far down the front cover behind the main image. So to change this I had to raise the masthead a little margin higher so that it look a little bit more profession so that the main image wasn’t covering the title. ‘On your front cover all your cover lines on the left and right hand side must line up, this is an essential correction because if all the cover lines don’t like up it makes the front cover look unprofessional and makes the front cover not look as good as it should do, so therefore I moved the cover lines so that it meets up with the ruler lines/margins which this now looks much better as you can see in the after picture. One of my changes production plan and my front cover, I had a different launch date from which I put on my front cover- 01/02/2017, when really the product will be getting launched on the 07/01/2017. Furthermore, this is an essential correction due to the fact that if I uploaded my magazine with the wrong launch date then this will make my business un- professional due to the fact that the magazine would have come out on that specific date.

  • 16. Hand drawn drafts have chosen this front cover draft as my final one because it is neat and modern looking. Having only 3 colours makes the whole cover look better as there are not loads of colours and everything matches. Having black, white and red makes the cover look nice as black and white are plain colours and red is obviously brighter, making my logo specifically stand out more. Also having everything spread out on the page makes it look much better.
  • 17. Hand drawn drafts I have chosen this front cover draft as my final one for $tackz magazine because of the layout. I like having the main image and the headline merging together so the reader knows who the main person is in the article. Also having the cover lines next to the main image shows who the main artist is in the article and that the cover lines are not covered as much as the main artist in the middle. Also having 3 colours only makes the magazine appealing and smarter looking.
  • 18. Hand drawn drafts The first hand drawn draft I chose for One magazine is to have the masthead in the top left corner. This makes the magazine look more unique and modern as I also have only 3 colors within the magazine. Once again I have the cover lines next to the main image to prove the main image is the main artist in the whole magazine.

  • 20. Hand drawn drafts I have also chosen this hand drawn draft because of the there is a nice amount of space for a image and I liked this draft because I think the large image stands out and the interview is easily readable.
  • 21. Hand drawn drafts I have chose this double page draft as my final one for RapCity magazine because I think having a large image on one page and the interview on the other makes it more appealing to the reader. It also makes it look a lot neater and smarter looking because everything is so spread out.
  • 22. Hand drawn drafts I have also chosen this hand drawn draft because of the huge image on the left and the way the interview is set out. I liked this draft because I think the large image stands out and the interview is easily readable. This way the reader will know who the interview is about because there will be a large image covering the left page.
  • 23. I have chosen this one as my final draft for One magazine because I liked the way it is set out. Having a large image on the left page makes it easily recognizable to who the interview is about and it also stands out to the reader. Having the interview on the left makes it look neater and more attractive because everything is so spread out and not all close together. This also makes it easier for the reader when reading all the questions and answers. Hand drawn drafts

Printing costs of the magazine The final order To purchase 15,000 magazine copies at a good quality it would add up to around £4612.92 so roughly it will be around £3.50 each which I will be selling my magazine at around £4.00each so I wouldn’t be able to make as much as profit as I would like to make so next time I will need to order more copies so that the overall price will be reduced and therefore I will make more money in total.

  • 37. copyright Copyright is a legal means of protecting an author's work. It is a type of intellectual property that provides publication, distribution, and usage rights for the author. This means whatever content the author created cannot be used or published by anyone else without the consent of the author. The length of copyright protection may vary from country to country, but it usually lasts for the life of the author plus 50 to 100 years. The copy right law which changed in 1998, copyright gives certain legal protection to authors of materials, this also allows an employee to have their own rights for photocopying from a paper version then converted in to a book. http://www.slideshare.net/mrmwood/copyri ght-designs-and-patents-act
  • 38. Legal Issues  This link here describes how Bauer media wants free-lances which is there employees and they want them to take away their rights to be references in Bauer Media, therefore they will need to sign a contract so they don’t need to reference anyone which will mean this will take away their rights. Because of this many righters and photographers have written to Bauer Media stating that they will not work for them unless they take away the new contract and they will carry on worming their again this is essential for Bauer Media as they will have lost around 200 workers if they didn’t remove the contract. https://www.theguardian.com/media/2010/a pr/19/bauer-freelance-contracts-row
  • 39. Distribution to retailer I am going to distribute my magazine to all of the big superstores like WHSmith and Tesco as thousands of people shop here every day, and WHSmith is a huge shop for magazines so this will therefore be the place that people will go to buy magazines if they wanted one. http://www.frontlinedistribution.co.uk
  • 40. Connotations behind name of magazine The connotations of the name RapCity is called this is because RapCity can be conveyed to be the city where all rappers are based which could illustrate to the audience that this magazine will contain all the best rappers. The connotations of the name $tackz is purely to the fact that ‘$tacks’ in slang means a lot of money so this name could illustrate to the audience that the people featuring in my magazine will be good rappers who have a lot of money.
  • 41. $TACKZ and RapCity Magazine front cover
  • 44. Final changes to double page spread I have also added in magazine credits at the top of the double page spread to convey to the audience who has helped me to build up this page also I've added in credits to the interviewer of my double page spread and the photographer. I also added in a page number because in my magazine inspiration there was a page number, and in the process of creating this spread I was told to use my magazine inspiration to get small ideas and copy them over to make my double page spread look better and more professional.
  • 45. Facebook Advertisement I created a Facebook page for my magazine $tackz, which this could furthermore help with the advertisement side of my magazine, due to the fact that so many people use Facebook on a daily basis so therefore this will get my magazine out there.
  • 46. Rapcity Facebook advertisement I used Facebook as my advertisement due to the fact that Facebook is a big part of social media at the moment therefore I feel like this could boost my business alot.
  • 47. FAVOURITE MAGAZINE I like the slogan I used for this front cover magazine, which states’ the city that won’t let you down’ which is similar to my title ‘Rapcity’ which can illustrate that all the best rappers are found in this specific city which is all featured in this specific magazine which is furthermore, why this is the best magazine. I also got 50 cent to feature in the magazine because this will attract a large target audience In the rap section of music this is because ‘50 cent’ is a big figure in rap so therefore people will want to read the magazine due to the fact that he features in the magazine. Also I like the fact that I created a barcode for the magazine due to the fact that it makes it look very professional. Also stating that customers who buy my magazine have a chance of winning 50 cent tickets, this furthermore this will boost my chances of selling more magazines and making the specific magazine more popular. I like the look of this magazine double page spread due to the fact of the stroke of the background and the main headline go together well. Also I like the way that I made the image push the text out of the way of the fingers at the bottom, which makes the double page spread look more professional due to the fact that the writing goes around the fingers. Also I like the fact that I also included a page number and the social media which also ups the standards of my double page spread as well, due to the fact it makes it look real, Asif someone has actually created it and implemented it into a magazine, which conveys that I done a good job.
  • 48. Above the line marketing  Above the line Marketing is where media promotes your business trying to reach out to the target audience trying to attract them to buy or subscribe to the magazine company. These can include conventions such as radio, television, the press, newspaper and magazines etc. Above the line is all about brand awareness trying to get people to get familiar with their magazine. Also for above the line you will need to include frequency due to the audience wanting to know how often the magazines get released.
  • 49. Below the line marketing  Below the line is a cheaper method, rather than using above the line that is seen as much more expensive. Below the line marketing is where a business will use methods such as posters, leaflets, banners and broachers so that they can advertise their product and try to increase their target audience so that they get more sales.  Below the line marketing is targeted at a specific audience this is because most of the customers would take interest in the advertisement so therefore this will be seen as a waste of money.
  • 50. Masthead ideas Masthead $TACKZ RapCity $tackz can convey how much money an individual has, furthermore in this way it will be illustrating that someone who is in the magazine has lot of money from music. All the best rappers in a specific city e.g somewhere in London. Sectioned All of the best artists are sectioned off in to this magazine which will convey that this magazine will contain all the best artists. Music madness Music madness could convey that all of the music released in this magazine may be seen to the audience as a madness, which could attract more people to want to read the magazine. All of these names on this slide were ideas that I thought that I could of used for my masthead on my magazine, but I ended up using $tackz
  • 51. Interview draft  Hello, how are you?  I'm good thanks mate, you?  Good, whens your tour at the 02 then?  14th of December , going to get shutdown bro you should come.  Where you going to go on tour first?  London man, my hometown, where I first started music, where I met my pals from music.  If the tickets are still available, who are your special guests?  I got a couple people rolling through, that’s on the low though.  Fair enough, whens the album dropping as well can’t wait for that to drop.  That’s a little bit after the tour man, thinks its early January trust it will be sick think I got about 7 to 8 songs coming out on that album, when it drops I will send you a copy for free man.  When you came out of prison, was the songs that you released about the life in their, because I can imagine you was writing a lot whilst you was in their, about how hard life was at that specific time?  Yeah man, whilst your in their it is different to how you would think, if you haven’t been in prison then you won’t realize how hard life is in there, but when I was in their yes I did write a couple songs one of which is on YouTube now called jail pain, it is just all about life in there and how very few people visited me and the poor quality of food that I was eating ect, also I am on the process of writing a track which will be part 2 when I went back in prison soon after.  Oh no, I never heard the first jail pain but I will look at it later, someone told me about a prison song coming out with you, I can’t wait mate im really looking forward to it.  Yes it will be lit bro trust me on that one, but honestly keep holding tight because my new ep is coming out which 5 new hot tracks are going to be coming out in a couple months.  Yes that is what I like to hear, the old you is coming back and with more progression, when was the last song out then if you been in prison for this whole time?  My last song must off been a good year back and a half ago, on link up TV making money featuring young trapper. The one that was recorded on the top of the building do you remember?  Yes mate, I do remember now that was ages ago, nice speaking to you anyway.
  • 52. Prop list  For my photographs for my issue, I didn’t need any more equipment or any props. This is because I only need a camera and the individual that is going to be In the picture. Therefore this specific person will need a few different outfits in able to have a variety of different photos which will allow me to pick out of a variety of pictures. The camera that was used for my photography was a Nikon D3300 Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm this is due to the fact that I want my photo’s to as professional as possible. I borrowed this camera from school as they have the best quality cameras around.  If I was to have some props in my magazine I would have some musical instruments like a microphone to make it look more professional and more of a music magazine. 
  • 54. Software risk assessment  When I was creating my magazine front cover and my dps for my magazines I made sure that all the segments throughout both magazines I made sure it looked as professional. For example when inserting an image, and resizing it I make sure that I hold down the shift key when resizing because if you don’t follow this procedure then the image may become pixilated and loose the images quality due to not holding down the shift key so therefore I make sure I hold it to make my images have the best quality. Another procedure that is essential to follow is when inserting text to a magazine make sure that a ruler tool is used so that the writing doesn’t overlap any images which also furthermore, makes it look unprofessional..  Lastly, for every magazine that I have created I have used the same colour scheme so therefore when someone from the audience has already previously seen my magazine they should be able to recognize it which may boost the amount of sales that I get because more people may recognize it which may make them want to buy it.
  • 55. Hazards at work place The health and safety act, Often referred to as HASAW or HSW, this Act of Parliament is the main piece of UK health and safety legislation. It has 13 different headings and 10 different schedules which will consist of commissions, regulations and provisions. These duties are about a specific individual that is employed as is currently working, but it is the fact that the individual has to be safe at work and try not to injure themselves and if anything does occur at work, for example the person working does get injured then they will have to write down what has happened and if it is a serious injury then it may have to involve going to the hospital then it may become more serious. It Is essential that at every work place that the surroundings and health by every employee for that specific business gets controlled regularly and if there is any problems then the manager will need to be informed as soon a possible.
  • 56. Ethical and legal issues continued Ip/watermark- content that usually has been used for copyright can be referred as ‘IP’ which furthermore means Intellectual property which means that it belongs to someone else but you are using it for the meanwhile for progress in your work, which this is also protected by the law and government. IP allows owners and trade markers to be benefitted from their own work and investment. This is furthermore essential because for my magazine I have not used copyright as all the work is mine and is protected due to the fact that it has all be wrote by myself. Royalties- A royalty is a payment to an owner for the use of property, especially patents, copyrighted works, franchises or natural resources. The NLA newspaper licensing company which sell licenses to newspaper and now they have started selling magazine contents. If an individual has created some information that they are using for some work, and another person wants to use this information then the will have to pay the creator to use this information, which furthermore is what I have done in my magazine because it contains information that will include original content which will need to be protected. Ethical issues- With my magazine if anyone finds that there is a problem in the magazine then they will have to contact myself to choose whether the alternatives are right with will be ethical or wrong which is unethical. When releasing my magazine I must make sure that I don’t advertise something that is false because this could lead to complaints coming in from the audience of your magazine . For example pricing your magazine wrong by saying on the magazine that it is £2.99 when really it is getting sold in Tesco for £3.50 which is unethical because you are lying to the audience about how much you are really selling your magazine at.
