5. Hand drawn drafts - Rap City – Front
Cover
I have chosen this front cover draft as my final
one because it is neat and modern looking.
Having only 3 colours makes the whole cover
look better as there are not loads of colours
and everything matches. Having black, white
and red makes the cover look nice as black and
white are plain colours and red is obviously
brighter, making my logo specifically stand out
more. Also having everything spread out on the
page makes it look much better.
6. Hand drawn drafts - $tackz – Front
Cover
I have chosen this front cover draft as my final
one for $tackz magazine because of the layout.
I like having the main image and the headline
merging together so the reader knows who the
main person is in the article. Also having the
cover lines next to the main image shows who
the main artist is in the article and that the
cover lines are not covered as much as the
main artist in the middle. Also having 3 colours
only makes the magazine appealing and
smarter looking.
10. House style
Colour Scheme
My colour scheme for $tackz is Red, Black and Grey. This is because I liked the
look of Q magazines magazine which is the same colors and it looked very
clean and smart looking so I decided to do the same. Considering Q is a very
popular magazine that sells I want my magazine to do the same. The
connotations of the colour red are passion and excitement. I want to be
passionate about the music I producer and I want my audience to be excited
about the magazine.
My colour scheme for my RapCity magazine is going to be red, black and
white. I chose white because this will furthermore keep my magazine
professional as these are bold but also neutral colours.
Font Style
The font style I am using is Obelix Pro for my masthead. This will be
downloaded from dafont.com. This is because it goes with my rap theme and
for people who don’t already know the magazine, when they first see it this
will help them to tell what genre the magazine is, this is due to the fact that
the font looks a bit like graffiti but a neater version which could convey to the
audience that my genre of my magazine is rap. This font also looks very unique
which is what I wanted on my magazine.

14. Step by step summary Double
page spread.
You will have to repeat the same process that you would of done with the front cover by setting up the canvas
that you would like and add in your ruler lines to make sure that your layout is all in line. Also you can change
the background if you would like to change it.
Like you would have done for your front cove you need to add in your masthead, but not the strapline this is
because this is only convention for the front cover. At the bottom of the page you can add page numbers to
make it look like a double page spread in a magazine.
Now that the basics are in place it will be time to add in your main image, you can do this by going to file, place
and adding in the picture you want and also edit it to how you like it and until you think it looks up to standard.
After adding in your picture it will be time to add in your text for your article. The first section of the text can be
the quote this is because if you want to put text around the quote you can do this easier if the quote is already
imputed.
By adding in your quote in first, this can also allow you to add in the stand verse, when adding in the stand
verse you will need to create a drop capital, you will do this by creating a text box and type in the first letter of
the word that is going to start your text. And then you will need to go down the pen tool(15th) bar down and
click around some of the sides of your letters and then carry on making a text box where you want your stand
verse to go. And then after that type all of the rest of your text for the paragraph.
Use the text tool bar to add in any text that you would like that may boost your magazines appearance, also
another convention that you may want to add which will also boost your magazines appearance will be to
change your text colour to any colour that you think looks the best. If you want to change the width or height of
the writing in the magazine front cover, highlight over it and click ‘windows’ at the top of the screen and go to
the characters.
For puff promotions, repeat the steps of adding a shape then place the text on top, and follow the previous
steps before if you feel like you need to change the colour of your writing or the length and width of your
writing which will overall boost the appearance of your magazine.
15. Step by step guide Front Cover
Firstly, to start of my front cover I had to set up the page which is A4, then adding ruler lines so that everything
that you are inputting is in line. Then I started of my creating a box so the barcode could easily fit inside of it,
with the social media links such as: instagram, Facebook and lastly twitter, I done this by getting the images of
the internet and transferred them straight to my front cover which I had to make them smaller, so they could
therefore fit inside the box. Also I had to include the issue date which I done this by using the T button on the
tool bar and then created the text box which I then typed the date into the text box.
Secondly, before starting to do any other conventions it is essential to insert your background this
is due to the fact that it will be easier later on when finishing of the front cover. I started of
creating my background. Firstly by setting up a page then going format background then choosing
the color and gradient that you want.
Now you have added a background and barcode, you can add in a masthead to the front cover. This can be done by
downloading a specific font that you want from a website called ‘da font’ this will be installing in the downloading
section of the mac, click on the font that is downloading and press ‘install font’ and then you can type the title that
you want.
Then this step is when you need to take a picture of whoever you want to
feature in your magazine. This needs to be done by a picture being taken on
a hd camera and using the memory stick that you insert to the back of the
computer. To neaten up the edges of the picture use the quick selection tool
which will get rid of the background as well.
To make the front cover look more like a magazine,
you can add a headline, puff promotion, quotes,
featured artist
16. Colour
Colour in my front cover and my double page spread, it is essential that all
the colours that I am using are exactly the same colour and even the same
tone. This is essential because if you are trying to use the same colours in
your front cover but some of the colours are darker than others this will
therefore make the audience, or who ever is looking at my magazine this
will make them think that it my magazine is unprofessional.
17. Fonts
• When I was picking fonts for my front cover and double page
spread. I thought it through as much as I could, due to the fact
that I wanted my font to link to the genre of my magazine for
example if my genre was ‘HIP HOP’ then I would have had a
smooth and chill font. Where as if it was ‘RAP’ then I would of
used a font that was more graffiti type and also maybe a bold
font. All of these font that I would have been looking up would be
found in website called www.dafont.com. Which this website has
a variety of different fonts. One of the fonts that i used for my
magazine as 28 days later which is a bold and dark font which I
used due to the fact that it symbolizes my genre as it is rap. And
lastly for my other magazine which is $TACKZ I used a font called
‘Obelix pro’ this is because this font is bold and stands out to the
audience which will attract them to want to read the rest of the
magazine.
18. Interview draft
• Hello, how are you?
• I'm good thanks mate, you
• When your next show?
• 14th of December , going to get shutdown bro you should com
• London man, my hometown, where I first started music, where I met my pals from music
• I got a couple people rolling through, that’s on the low though.
• , whens the album dropping as well can’t wait for that to drop.
• That’s a little bit after the tour man, thinks its early January trust it will be sick think I got about 7 to 8 songs coming out on that album,
• nMuch appreciated mate, can’t wait for the tour and the album.
• Yh neither can I bro, I am struggling to right lyrics at the moment am going through quite a bad time in the music industry that’s why I haven’t
been releasing much man.
• Why what has happened, catch me up I haven’t spoken with you in ages!
• Basically, cut a long story short I done a bad thing went too prison but that’s all in the past I am a changed man now want to carry on writing
music.
• Yeah man, whilst your in their it is different to how you would think, if you haven’t been in prison then you won’t realize how hard life is in
there, but when I was in their yes I did write a couple songs one of which is on YouTube now called jail pain, it is just all about life in there and
how very few people visited me and the poor quality of food that I was eating ect, also I am on the process of writing a track which will be part
2 when I went back in prison soon after.
• Oh no, I never heard the first jail pain but I will look at it later, someone told me about a prison song coming out with a few people featuring on
it.
• Yes it will be lit bro trust me on that one, but honestly keep holding tight because my new ep is coming out which 5 new hot tracks are going to
be coming out in a couple months.
• Yes that is what I like to hear, the old you is coming back and with more progression, when was the last song out then if you been in prison for
this whole time?
• My last song must off been a good year back and a half ago, on link up TV making money featuring young trapper. The one that was recorded
on the top of the building do you remember?
• Yes mate, I do remember now that was ages ago, nice speaking to you anyway.
19. Test photography
I had to take a few images
so I could see what image
would look the best on
the front cover of my
magazine, Furthermore I
think the picture in the
bottom left will suit my
magazine the best.
This is the
picture that I
chose for my
double page
spread, this is
because I like the
fact that I am
looking away
from the camera
into the
distance.
20. Test photography continued
• For my test photography I have had to do take
some photos to give myself a variety of photos
to pick for my front cover. I have taken some
photos of myself who I am the artist for my
front cover. I have decided to choose this
photo because I think it is the best photo of
the 4 I have taken. A factor why the test
photography can be seen as good as it gives
you a chance to see what the photos will look
like.
25. Further development possibilities
• In the future I could create a contents page.
This will help the audience to direct pages in
the magazine. The stories that appear on my
front cover would be in my contents page.
