 39. Conclusion
Deadlines
 Throughout the production plan, there needs to be deadlines the work that
needs to be done needs to be submitted on specific deadlines in
accordance to the production plan content. Therefore there is some planned
work on planned dates that have changes as a result of some complications
when producing our music magazine.
Deadlines
On this particular day within the production plan, it clearly states that
we are going to “Edit the pictures and make any adjustments that
we feel are necessary”, however due to complications we were not
able to do this as on the day prior to this we were not able to take
photographs of the music star so we were not capable to edit the
pictures for our Front Cover & Double Page Spread for our music
magazines.
As a result of these issues we had to postpone the pictures to
a different date due to the cameras not arriving from where we
ordered them from. We need to learn from this mistake/lesson
and therefore make sure we have the cameras before we
make plans about when we are going to take the photographs
of the music star for our music magazine. This is vitally
important as planning for something for an event or an
occurrence is one thing but actually going through and
partaking in the scheduled event is another thing.
Deadlines
Another change that we were forced to make to the
prepared interview that we were going to take part in
with “Eminem” was abruptly stopped after he had to
postpone the interview with us due to some events
that he was unaware of before he accepted an
interview with us. Due to the fact that “Eminem” is
such a massive star and we are very confident that
he let us accumulate a top amount of readership &
circulation figures just purely based on his status as
one of the most popular music icons in the last 15-20
years.
Three days from our production plan as you can see
on the right hand side, all of those days are entirely
eradicated and scrapped which is a bit irritating, but
yet again as I have stated “Eminem” is such as
massive draw that we have to be patient in order to
gain that interview with Eminem as we will reap the
rewards through readership & circulation figures.
Have I met these deadlines?
 In conclusion I would say that I have NOT met these deadlines,
however some of the deadlines have not been met have been out of our
hands in reference to “Eminem” postponing the interview. Moreover,
some of the deadlines were in our hands but we were not able to meet
the deadlines due to the cameras not arriving in time, now this is
something which was in our hands and therefore we should be more
productive when it comes to gaining access to the equipment such as
Camera, Tripod & other equipment that is needed within taking
Photographs & conducting an interview for my Front Cover & Double
Page Spread.
Post production software
 The main software in which I utilized when creating my Front Cover &
Double Page is Photoshop as it is very useful in the sense that the tools
provided enable you to edit and adapt into the way that you want to.
This program allows you to manipulate images the way that you want
the images to be along with the range of tools to allow you to do this.
Post production software
 One important aspect of this program is that you are able to design
grid lines so you know where everything is supposed to go & you can
bring up the grid lines to do this by simply selecting CTRL+R which
allows a ruler to appear in which you select your cursor onto the ruler
provided to take part in this process.
 Another very useful tool is the eye dropper tool which allows you to
duplicate a colour that you want and this is particular useful and self
sufficient as you could use this same colour on your Front Cover &
Double Page Spread.
Post production software
 As you can clearly see from the screenshot below this text, I had used the
swatches tool quite often in order to change the colour of some of the layers, for
this particular layer you can see that the Puff Promotion text is red, but as I
select one of the green colours by already having one of the layers clicked
(CTRL+V) I was able to change the text to green and this was very useful in
order to choose what colour I wanted as part of the text for my puff promotion.
Post production skills
The eraser tool is an vitally important tool as when you have already used
the quick selection tool, you would need the eraser tool to roam around the
images selected and eradicate any parts of the image that you don’t
need/want. This tool is vitally important as we need the magazine to look
not only conventional, but also professional & realistic.
Post Production Skills (Pen Tool)
 Next, the pen tool is very efficient as when you need to roam around an image, you
can select where you want the pen tool to go & this tool is also very important in that
it won’t normally make contact in an area in which you don’t want it to. This tool also
makes your magazine Front Cover’s & Double Page Spread’s more conventional and
therefore look more professional. As you can see from the screenshot above slightly
to the right hand side, I had to use the pen tool to make sure that the text did not
overlap part of Eminem’s arm, this was very important as we did not want to make
any mistakes and if this actually happened it would look very unprofessional
Post production skills
 Lastly, the quick selection tool allows you to manipulate
images to the way that you would want it to and this is the
case for my Front Cover & Double Page Spread as this
specific tool enables me to outline what I want on the
basis of the pages, plus I eradicated the background with
the use of this tool as well as the quick selection tool.
However, in reference to the eraser tool, before you can
eradicate some of the unwanted parts of the background
you MUST use the quick selection tool before this
process can be completed.
 As you can see from the screenshot to the right of this
text, I used the quick selection tool to erase the
background as you can see from the picture to the bottom
right, I had got rid of the background in comparison to the
photograph to your top right in order to make the image
look more professional and formal.
Safe Working Practices in
Photoshop
 Safe working practices for a program such as Photoshop would be tools, for
example quick selection tool along with the text tool & the eye drop tool not
forgetting the font styles and the rubber tools.
 Firstly, the quick selection tool is classed within this as you are more than
capable to click on something and one of the pages will be able to move it to
the place where you want to move it to & this is efficient as this tool enables
your Front Cover & Double Page Spread to look very professional.
 Next, the text tool is very useful as it allocates you to input text on magazine
pages, for example for myself to create the masthead I would have to use
the text tool and a lot of the layers within my Double Page Spread use the
text tool as it is an interview.
 The eye dropper tool allows you to keep a colour sustained so you can use
the colour that you want throughout your magazine, this is very useful as
you don’t have to find a unique colour if you have to and this tool sustains
the colour and keeps it safe so you can use it more often.
 The eraser tool is a vitally important tool as when you have already used the
quick selection tool, you would need the eraser tool to roam around the
images selected and eradicate any parts of the image that you don’t
need/want. This tool is vitally important as we need the magazine to look not
only conventional, but also professional & realistic.
Evidence of Swatches Layers
 As you can see from the screenshot below, the very few colours at the
very bottom of the array of the colours which is contained within the
swatches part of this part of Photoshop. I have created two colours so
when I want to use my Masthead colour which is my house style which
is repeated throughout my music magazine I can by just selecting this
colour and the same goes for the swatches colour from the Pull Out
Quote.
Colour (House Style)
 Within my music magazine Front Cover & Double Page Spread, we
needed to sustain the same colour scheme so our music magazine
would look like already conventional music magazines such as NME,
Kerrang & NME. I also need the house style to be repeated (Steve
Neale 1980) in order to sustain and then maintain brand identity
throughout our Front Cover & Double Page Spread and this is done with
the help of the Eye Dropper Tool.
 The Eye Dropper Tool is not only useful but also self sufficient in the
sense that it allows you to click and then select a colour from one of the
pages that have already been created and then it automatically saves it
onto another section of the magazine. Lastly this tool enables your
brand identity throughout your Front Cover & Double Page Spread to
grow and expand.

Comments
House Style
 It is very much likely that the style of my front cover and double page
spread, and this style is that the font style with the puff promotion style
which are most commonly known as rival bands/artists which are displayed
on the side of a front cover page, furthermore I will be taking further
inspiration from Clash Music Magazine in the sense that Rita Ora is the
main focal point about this issue of this magazine.
 The puff promotion (rival artists/bands) are displayed on the side and this
would connote to the reader that these artists and bands are just there to
make the numbers which foreshadows the fact that later on within this
article it will establish the Rita Ora story.
House Style
 I very much like the use of the style of the NME music magazine front cover
as the colours are used are very simple and effective in the sense that they
use bold bright colours in order to lure the customers in against dull but very
acute backgrounds, the image below displays the effectiveness of the front
cover colour conventions as by using bright colours against bold boring
colours which makes the colours stand out which results in a more
recognisable brand logo for NME Music Magazine.
Masthead Font Styles
 As demonstrated below, this colour is represented throughout Smash
Music Magazine of the colour that is displayed below. The image below is
cropped from my front cover in which the colour is the background of my
front cover.
 The E below is a cropped screenshot from my double page spread in
which the E is the start of the word “Eminem” and as you can see the
colours are practically the same which symbolises a certain level and
degree of consistency when it comes to the colours consistency
throughout the front cover and double page spread.
 Additionally, the Stand first is yet again represented with the same colour
of tone with the other two screenshots beside the stand first and yet again
this illustrates a certain level of consistency in terms of the colours not
being different to each other in the front cover and double page spread.
Masthead Font Styles
 Drop Capital: I will be using this for my drop capital for the simple reasons
that it will be consistent within every double page spread of our music
magazine. Furthermore it may not stand out from the crowd, but it is
constant and consistent so it can easily be outlined and referred to as a
Drop Capital.
 Title of Artist: Now for this font style, there are two types so that indicates a
certain level of inconsistency however a level of variation which is also
gratifying when it comes font styles. These two font styles are bold, and in
similarity with the drop capital font styles but are consistent and are easy on
the eye for the consumers of our product/service we are offering.
Colour Scheme
 The main thinking behind our colour scheme was to not completely change
all of the features of this type of music magazine, but we could afford to
tweak some features.
 We envisioned a music magazine which can be both appealing to students
that are male and female within the age range of 13-18.
 But for this vision to work, we must make a similar house style and colour
scheme of a music magazine which is particularly similar to our idea and
then discovered Clash Music Magazine and then we took inspiration from
them and that’s where we got our idea from e.g. colour scheme and house
style.
Production plan before & after
 This was the production plan before we decided to change it & as you can
see from the print screen below it is a very basic production plan and we
needed to change this as it lacked any sort of budget costs, equipment
requirements and some other aspects that a production plan does need and
this lacks a lot of that.
Production Plan before & after
 On the left hand side is a
very much improved
production plan in which
we have vastly improved
as you can see the
people involved in each
of the planned days
along with the
equipment required and
the budget costs. This is
vitally important as we
need to know how much
all of the equipment
costs for instance to add
that to our allocated
budget along with other
costs when producing a
music magazine of this
nature.
Production Plan before & after
 As you can see, we have
made many changes such as
the equipment required which
we feel is essentially
important as we must know
what equipment is needed for
specific days. For example on
Friday 28th November we
needed to be ready to
conduct a professional
interview with “Eminem” in
which the equipment required
is a Camera, Microphone &
Voice Recorder. We must
have the correct equipment in
order to be prepared for a
professional interview with
Eminem for our Double Page
Spread.
Final Design Drafts ( Front cover &
Double Page Spread)
The Masthead is created by different fonts in
order to lure the customers in so that the potential
customers are drawn in to purchase a copy of our
music magazine. We wanted the masthead to first
and foremost stand out but also retain a sense of
conventionalism within our music magazines as we
needed to stay conventional with rival music
magazines.
More commonly known as a Puff Promotion,
this makes the fans read this promotion and
therefore become intrigued with the prize giveaway
available. This is conventional in the majority of all
music magazines as it enables the customers to
have a chance of winning a prize which can lure
the customers in.
Similar to Clash Music Magazine issues in which
they have Slogans which are applicable to the
music star in hand and therefore we have adopted
a similar approach on how they do this. The reader
will become intrigued by the slogans as the
readers will wonder how the slogans are applicable
to the artist. Additionally, we needed to come up
with a slogan which would obviously catch the eye
of the reader so then the customers are more open
Final Design Drafts ( Front Cover
& Double Page Spread)
The Main Image is cemented into the
middle in which the main music star will
appear and the Front Cover & Double Page
Spread is based off. This is done in order
for the fans to realise who the articles are
about through the form of the Front Cover.
This is very important for the customers to
realise what the image connotes and what
is foreshadows in terms of the tone of the
rest of the music magazine.
Among many conventional music
magazine, there are Secondary
Stories/Cover Lines which highlight the
artists who will either feature in that
particular issue or future issues. These
cover lines are exceptionally important as
they represent the chief support for this
particular music magazine & therefore add
more content to the music magazine/
Final Design Drafts ( Front Cover &
Double Page Spread)
This Caption allows the description
of the picture to become visible for
the local demographic to see where
they are within this picture which
informs and educates the reader in
reference to Katz Uses &
Gratifications. This allows the
customer to know what exactly is
going on in the picture if they do not
understand & where the picture was
taken for example was Eminem on
tour when this image was taken.
This is the Briefing before the actual
interview starts & allows the reader
to know what we will be covering in
terms of content within the interview
provided in this DPS. The
introduction before the DPS
interview is important as it lets the
customers know who is in this
interview along with some statistics
Final Design Drafts ( Front Cover &
Double Page Spread)
This is where the Interview
Continues on & we would need to
keep the interview ticking on but
make sure that the interview content
is not boring so therefore inputting
jovial questions. Furthermore this is
important as we want the questions
to be comical but retain the same
seriousness at the same time in
order to keep the customers happy
with the content of our DPS
interview.
We would need to End The
Interview either soft or hard news.
What I mean by this is that we could
end with a jovial question, or end the
interview with a hard news question
for example about Eminem’s
overdose incident in 2008. This is
important as we don’t want to come
off bad to the customers and also
the Eminem fans on our first DPS
Annotation of Final Designs (Front
Cover)
 There are many important conventions but
none more than Cover Lines as
they prove the chief support for the main
article, and for this design it is Eminem
along with the Cover Lines who are
a future articles possibility. These are
essentially important as the Cover
Lines might have Double Page Spread
interviews about them, but some of them
will have single page interviews about
some of the Cover Lines but these
are mainly important in order to further
support the main act which is Eminem for
this article.
Annotation of Final Designs (Front
Cover)
 This Slogan almost instructs the
customers to do what the magazine wants
it to, the Slogan appeals to the
customer as it instructs them to do these 3
things which are” Listen, Buy, Enjoy” it
almost conveys a certain element of
arrogance saying that you will Enjoy the
magazine which may irk the customer but
the customer may buy the music magazine.
This is essentially important as Slogan
is very conventional and many of our
competitors not only in our genre but in
other genres such as Rock & Classic have
a Slogan and we felt that we needed a
Slogan to maximise our customer
sales.
Annotation of Final Designs (Front
Cover)
 The Masthead is a very important
convention to any printed publication in the
sense that you need your Masthead
to stand out from the crowd in order to lure
the customers in to buying a copy of our
music magazine. This is vitally important as
this is arguably one of the most important
conventions along with the fact that this is
the foundation of the music magazine in the
sense that this Masthead is used a
lot in terms of the planning, producing and
promotion of our music magazine.

 Along with conventions on
Front Cover, there are
also a various amount of
conventions on this
Double Page Spread.
One of these is the Pull
Out Quote, now
this is very important as if
I was to promote this
particular Pull Out
Quote and customers
may be intrigued by this
and therefore that would
increase customer sales.
Annotation of Final Designs (Double

 This is normally termed
as Introduction
which would comfortably
embed us into the start of
the interview. The point of
an Introduction is
to get the customer ready
and to connect with the
reader on a more
professional level and we
have done this through
the form of statistics,
praise of Eminem, and a
sentence to sum up what
we are going to be talking
about within this interview.
Annotation of Final Designs (Double
Page Spread)
 Lastly, the Puff
Promotion is a
very important
convention within any
Double Page Spread
as it promotes the
magazine and gives
the potential customers
a fantastic opportunity
to win a prize and all
they have to do is
purchase a copy of our
music magazine and
what this does is that it
lures the customer in
without thinking about
Conclusion
 I would say that along the magazine pages I have created, my mood board definitely
highlights the music stars who we want as Front Cover & Double Page Spread’s of
our music magazine and hopefully with our first issue we can achieve this. In contrast,
we could of most definitely improved the planning of the photography plan as we
delayed the imagery of the planned pictures due to reasons such as Bad Weather &
Mistimed Delivery, we have now learned from this and therefore will improve our
production plan & schedule for a future date.

  • 6. Deadlines  Throughout the production plan, there needs to be deadlines the work that needs to be done needs to be submitted on specific deadlines in accordance to the production plan content. Therefore there is some planned work on planned dates that have changes as a result of some complications when producing our music magazine.
  • 7. Deadlines On this particular day within the production plan, it clearly states that we are going to “Edit the pictures and make any adjustments that we feel are necessary”, however due to complications we were not able to do this as on the day prior to this we were not able to take photographs of the music star so we were not capable to edit the pictures for our Front Cover & Double Page Spread for our music magazines. As a result of these issues we had to postpone the pictures to a different date due to the cameras not arriving from where we ordered them from. We need to learn from this mistake/lesson and therefore make sure we have the cameras before we make plans about when we are going to take the photographs of the music star for our music magazine. This is vitally important as planning for something for an event or an occurrence is one thing but actually going through and partaking in the scheduled event is another thing.
  • 8. Deadlines Another change that we were forced to make to the prepared interview that we were going to take part in with “Eminem” was abruptly stopped after he had to postpone the interview with us due to some events that he was unaware of before he accepted an interview with us. Due to the fact that “Eminem” is such a massive star and we are very confident that he let us accumulate a top amount of readership & circulation figures just purely based on his status as one of the most popular music icons in the last 15-20 years. Three days from our production plan as you can see on the right hand side, all of those days are entirely eradicated and scrapped which is a bit irritating, but yet again as I have stated “Eminem” is such as massive draw that we have to be patient in order to gain that interview with Eminem as we will reap the rewards through readership & circulation figures.
  • 9. Have I met these deadlines?  In conclusion I would say that I have NOT met these deadlines, however some of the deadlines have not been met have been out of our hands in reference to “Eminem” postponing the interview. Moreover, some of the deadlines were in our hands but we were not able to meet the deadlines due to the cameras not arriving in time, now this is something which was in our hands and therefore we should be more productive when it comes to gaining access to the equipment such as Camera, Tripod & other equipment that is needed within taking Photographs & conducting an interview for my Front Cover & Double Page Spread.
  • 10. Post production software  The main software in which I utilized when creating my Front Cover & Double Page is Photoshop as it is very useful in the sense that the tools provided enable you to edit and adapt into the way that you want to. This program allows you to manipulate images the way that you want the images to be along with the range of tools to allow you to do this.
  • 11. Post production software  One important aspect of this program is that you are able to design grid lines so you know where everything is supposed to go & you can bring up the grid lines to do this by simply selecting CTRL+R which allows a ruler to appear in which you select your cursor onto the ruler provided to take part in this process.  Another very useful tool is the eye dropper tool which allows you to duplicate a colour that you want and this is particular useful and self sufficient as you could use this same colour on your Front Cover & Double Page Spread.
  • 12. Post production software  As you can clearly see from the screenshot below this text, I had used the swatches tool quite often in order to change the colour of some of the layers, for this particular layer you can see that the Puff Promotion text is red, but as I select one of the green colours by already having one of the layers clicked (CTRL+V) I was able to change the text to green and this was very useful in order to choose what colour I wanted as part of the text for my puff promotion.
  • 13. Post production skills The eraser tool is an vitally important tool as when you have already used the quick selection tool, you would need the eraser tool to roam around the images selected and eradicate any parts of the image that you don’t need/want. This tool is vitally important as we need the magazine to look not only conventional, but also professional & realistic.
  • 14. Post Production Skills (Pen Tool)  Next, the pen tool is very efficient as when you need to roam around an image, you can select where you want the pen tool to go & this tool is also very important in that it won’t normally make contact in an area in which you don’t want it to. This tool also makes your magazine Front Cover’s & Double Page Spread’s more conventional and therefore look more professional. As you can see from the screenshot above slightly to the right hand side, I had to use the pen tool to make sure that the text did not overlap part of Eminem’s arm, this was very important as we did not want to make any mistakes and if this actually happened it would look very unprofessional
  • 15. Post production skills  Lastly, the quick selection tool allows you to manipulate images to the way that you would want it to and this is the case for my Front Cover & Double Page Spread as this specific tool enables me to outline what I want on the basis of the pages, plus I eradicated the background with the use of this tool as well as the quick selection tool. However, in reference to the eraser tool, before you can eradicate some of the unwanted parts of the background you MUST use the quick selection tool before this process can be completed.  As you can see from the screenshot to the right of this text, I used the quick selection tool to erase the background as you can see from the picture to the bottom right, I had got rid of the background in comparison to the photograph to your top right in order to make the image look more professional and formal.
  • 16. Safe Working Practices in Photoshop  Safe working practices for a program such as Photoshop would be tools, for example quick selection tool along with the text tool & the eye drop tool not forgetting the font styles and the rubber tools.  Firstly, the quick selection tool is classed within this as you are more than capable to click on something and one of the pages will be able to move it to the place where you want to move it to & this is efficient as this tool enables your Front Cover & Double Page Spread to look very professional.  Next, the text tool is very useful as it allocates you to input text on magazine pages, for example for myself to create the masthead I would have to use the text tool and a lot of the layers within my Double Page Spread use the text tool as it is an interview.  The eye dropper tool allows you to keep a colour sustained so you can use the colour that you want throughout your magazine, this is very useful as you don’t have to find a unique colour if you have to and this tool sustains the colour and keeps it safe so you can use it more often.  The eraser tool is a vitally important tool as when you have already used the quick selection tool, you would need the eraser tool to roam around the images selected and eradicate any parts of the image that you don’t need/want. This tool is vitally important as we need the magazine to look not only conventional, but also professional & realistic.
  • 17. Evidence of Swatches Layers  As you can see from the screenshot below, the very few colours at the very bottom of the array of the colours which is contained within the swatches part of this part of Photoshop. I have created two colours so when I want to use my Masthead colour which is my house style which is repeated throughout my music magazine I can by just selecting this colour and the same goes for the swatches colour from the Pull Out Quote.
  • 18. Colour (House Style)  Within my music magazine Front Cover & Double Page Spread, we needed to sustain the same colour scheme so our music magazine would look like already conventional music magazines such as NME, Kerrang & NME. I also need the house style to be repeated (Steve Neale 1980) in order to sustain and then maintain brand identity throughout our Front Cover & Double Page Spread and this is done with the help of the Eye Dropper Tool.  The Eye Dropper Tool is not only useful but also self sufficient in the sense that it allows you to click and then select a colour from one of the pages that have already been created and then it automatically saves it onto another section of the magazine. Lastly this tool enables your brand identity throughout your Front Cover & Double Page Spread to grow and expand.
  • 19. Image of Witness Statement Comments
  • 20. House Style  It is very much likely that the style of my front cover and double page spread, and this style is that the font style with the puff promotion style which are most commonly known as rival bands/artists which are displayed on the side of a front cover page, furthermore I will be taking further inspiration from Clash Music Magazine in the sense that Rita Ora is the main focal point about this issue of this magazine.  The puff promotion (rival artists/bands) are displayed on the side and this would connote to the reader that these artists and bands are just there to make the numbers which foreshadows the fact that later on within this article it will establish the Rita Ora story.
  • 21. House Style  I very much like the use of the style of the NME music magazine front cover as the colours are used are very simple and effective in the sense that they use bold bright colours in order to lure the customers in against dull but very acute backgrounds, the image below displays the effectiveness of the front cover colour conventions as by using bright colours against bold boring colours which makes the colours stand out which results in a more recognisable brand logo for NME Music Magazine.
  • 22. Masthead Font Styles  As demonstrated below, this colour is represented throughout Smash Music Magazine of the colour that is displayed below. The image below is cropped from my front cover in which the colour is the background of my front cover.  The E below is a cropped screenshot from my double page spread in which the E is the start of the word “Eminem” and as you can see the colours are practically the same which symbolises a certain level and degree of consistency when it comes to the colours consistency throughout the front cover and double page spread.  Additionally, the Stand first is yet again represented with the same colour of tone with the other two screenshots beside the stand first and yet again this illustrates a certain level of consistency in terms of the colours not being different to each other in the front cover and double page spread.
  • 23. Masthead Font Styles  Drop Capital: I will be using this for my drop capital for the simple reasons that it will be consistent within every double page spread of our music magazine. Furthermore it may not stand out from the crowd, but it is constant and consistent so it can easily be outlined and referred to as a Drop Capital.  Title of Artist: Now for this font style, there are two types so that indicates a certain level of inconsistency however a level of variation which is also gratifying when it comes font styles. These two font styles are bold, and in similarity with the drop capital font styles but are consistent and are easy on the eye for the consumers of our product/service we are offering.
  • 24. Colour Scheme  The main thinking behind our colour scheme was to not completely change all of the features of this type of music magazine, but we could afford to tweak some features.  We envisioned a music magazine which can be both appealing to students that are male and female within the age range of 13-18.  But for this vision to work, we must make a similar house style and colour scheme of a music magazine which is particularly similar to our idea and then discovered Clash Music Magazine and then we took inspiration from them and that’s where we got our idea from e.g. colour scheme and house style.
  • 25. Production plan before & after  This was the production plan before we decided to change it & as you can see from the print screen below it is a very basic production plan and we needed to change this as it lacked any sort of budget costs, equipment requirements and some other aspects that a production plan does need and this lacks a lot of that.
  • 26. Production Plan before & after  On the left hand side is a very much improved production plan in which we have vastly improved as you can see the people involved in each of the planned days along with the equipment required and the budget costs. This is vitally important as we need to know how much all of the equipment costs for instance to add that to our allocated budget along with other costs when producing a music magazine of this nature.
  • 27. Production Plan before & after  As you can see, we have made many changes such as the equipment required which we feel is essentially important as we must know what equipment is needed for specific days. For example on Friday 28th November we needed to be ready to conduct a professional interview with “Eminem” in which the equipment required is a Camera, Microphone & Voice Recorder. We must have the correct equipment in order to be prepared for a professional interview with Eminem for our Double Page Spread.
  • 28. Final Design Drafts ( Front cover & Double Page Spread) The Masthead is created by different fonts in order to lure the customers in so that the potential customers are drawn in to purchase a copy of our music magazine. We wanted the masthead to first and foremost stand out but also retain a sense of conventionalism within our music magazines as we needed to stay conventional with rival music magazines. More commonly known as a Puff Promotion, this makes the fans read this promotion and therefore become intrigued with the prize giveaway available. This is conventional in the majority of all music magazines as it enables the customers to have a chance of winning a prize which can lure the customers in. Similar to Clash Music Magazine issues in which they have Slogans which are applicable to the music star in hand and therefore we have adopted a similar approach on how they do this. The reader will become intrigued by the slogans as the readers will wonder how the slogans are applicable to the artist. Additionally, we needed to come up with a slogan which would obviously catch the eye of the reader so then the customers are more open
  • 29. Final Design Drafts ( Front Cover & Double Page Spread) The Main Image is cemented into the middle in which the main music star will appear and the Front Cover & Double Page Spread is based off. This is done in order for the fans to realise who the articles are about through the form of the Front Cover. This is very important for the customers to realise what the image connotes and what is foreshadows in terms of the tone of the rest of the music magazine. Among many conventional music magazine, there are Secondary Stories/Cover Lines which highlight the artists who will either feature in that particular issue or future issues. These cover lines are exceptionally important as they represent the chief support for this particular music magazine & therefore add more content to the music magazine/
  • 30. Final Design Drafts ( Front Cover & Double Page Spread) This Caption allows the description of the picture to become visible for the local demographic to see where they are within this picture which informs and educates the reader in reference to Katz Uses & Gratifications. This allows the customer to know what exactly is going on in the picture if they do not understand & where the picture was taken for example was Eminem on tour when this image was taken. This is the Briefing before the actual interview starts & allows the reader to know what we will be covering in terms of content within the interview provided in this DPS. The introduction before the DPS interview is important as it lets the customers know who is in this interview along with some statistics
  • 31. Final Design Drafts ( Front Cover & Double Page Spread) This is where the Interview Continues on & we would need to keep the interview ticking on but make sure that the interview content is not boring so therefore inputting jovial questions. Furthermore this is important as we want the questions to be comical but retain the same seriousness at the same time in order to keep the customers happy with the content of our DPS interview. We would need to End The Interview either soft or hard news. What I mean by this is that we could end with a jovial question, or end the interview with a hard news question for example about Eminem’s overdose incident in 2008. This is important as we don’t want to come off bad to the customers and also the Eminem fans on our first DPS
  • 32. Annotation of Final Designs (Front Cover)  There are many important conventions but none more than Cover Lines as they prove the chief support for the main article, and for this design it is Eminem along with the Cover Lines who are a future articles possibility. These are essentially important as the Cover Lines might have Double Page Spread interviews about them, but some of them will have single page interviews about some of the Cover Lines but these are mainly important in order to further support the main act which is Eminem for this article.
  • 33. Annotation of Final Designs (Front Cover)  This Slogan almost instructs the customers to do what the magazine wants it to, the Slogan appeals to the customer as it instructs them to do these 3 things which are” Listen, Buy, Enjoy” it almost conveys a certain element of arrogance saying that you will Enjoy the magazine which may irk the customer but the customer may buy the music magazine. This is essentially important as Slogan is very conventional and many of our competitors not only in our genre but in other genres such as Rock & Classic have a Slogan and we felt that we needed a Slogan to maximise our customer sales.
  • 34. Annotation of Final Designs (Front Cover)  The Masthead is a very important convention to any printed publication in the sense that you need your Masthead to stand out from the crowd in order to lure the customers in to buying a copy of our music magazine. This is vitally important as this is arguably one of the most important conventions along with the fact that this is the foundation of the music magazine in the sense that this Masthead is used a lot in terms of the planning, producing and promotion of our music magazine.
  • 36. Annotation of Final Designs (Double Page Spread)  Along with conventions on Front Cover, there are also a various amount of conventions on this Double Page Spread. One of these is the Pull Out Quote, now this is very important as if I was to promote this particular Pull Out Quote and customers may be intrigued by this and therefore that would increase customer sales.
  • 37. Annotation of Final Designs (Double Page Spread)  This is normally termed as Introduction which would comfortably embed us into the start of the interview. The point of an Introduction is to get the customer ready and to connect with the reader on a more professional level and we have done this through the form of statistics, praise of Eminem, and a sentence to sum up what we are going to be talking about within this interview.
  • 38. Annotation of Final Designs (Double Page Spread)  Lastly, the Puff Promotion is a very important convention within any Double Page Spread as it promotes the magazine and gives the potential customers a fantastic opportunity to win a prize and all they have to do is purchase a copy of our music magazine and what this does is that it lures the customer in without thinking about
  • 39. Conclusion  I would say that along the magazine pages I have created, my mood board definitely highlights the music stars who we want as Front Cover & Double Page Spread’s of our music magazine and hopefully with our first issue we can achieve this. In contrast, we could of most definitely improved the planning of the photography plan as we delayed the imagery of the planned pictures due to reasons such as Bad Weather & Mistimed Delivery, we have now learned from this and therefore will improve our production plan & schedule for a future date.
