ABSTRACT
A major source of energy for our society is the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, petroleum and natural gas. These
sources are said to be depleting resources. Scientists are continuously looking to find alternatives to fossil fuels. One such alternative is
using vegetable oils to make fuel. Our experiment demonstrates the use of waste vegetable oil as an alternative, renewable feedstock
for the Bio-fuel production. In addition, the glycerol by-product can be reused in order to make glycerine soap. If the developed
process is scaled up to commercial levels then the excellent business opportunity will be offered by the Bio-fuel obtained from
vegetable oils.

USES AND APPLICATION
⟹ Diesel cars and trucks can run on bio-fuel, though older models may need to some modification to run on bio-fuel. ⟹ Recent
testing has shown the viability of bio-fuel use in the aviation industry. ⟹ Use of bio-fuels to power aircraft is expected to increase rural
economy in the next decade. ⟹ Bio-fuel is can be used in conventional power generation like to operate generators to produce
electricity.
FUTURE ASPECTS
⟹ It provides a market for excess production of vegetable oils and their methyl esters for farmers and for industries. ⟹ It decreases,
although will not eliminate, the country’s dependence on imported petroleum. ⟹ If the developed process is scaled up to commercial
levels then the excellent business opportunity will be offered by the bio-fuel obtained from vegetable oils. ⟹ Bio-fuel is relatively
clean on combustion and provides farmers substantial income. ⟹ It could be a major step towards the creation of an eco-friendly
transportation fuel. ⟹ We can say that, when the bio-fuel is used in all over world at that time, the world will never be the same
again.
.
WHAT IS BIOFUEL
⟹ Bio-fuel is a fuel made from renewable resources such as vegetable oils that can be used in diesel engines. ⟹ A bio-fuel is a fuel
that is produced from vegetable oils through contemporary biological processes, such as chemical, agriculture and anaerobic digestion
rather than a fuel produced by geological processes.
“Find the Laws of the Nature, Understand them and Use them”
AIM
To produce the Bio-fuel from the vegetable oils & to scale up the developed process for the production
of the bio-fuel from oils and by this to boost the rural economy, decrease the country’s dependence on imported
petroleum and to solve the environmental issues.
PRODUCTION OF BIO-FUEL
⟹ Bio-fuel is typically produced by a reaction of a vegetable oil or animal fat with an alcohol such as methanol or ethanol in the
presence of a catalyst. ⟹ This reaction produces new chemical compounds called methyl esters. ⟹ It is these esters that have come to
be known as bio-fuel. ⟹ bio-fuel consists of long-chain fatty acid esters produced by esterification or transesterification reaction of
vegetable oils with short chain alcohols.
INTRODUCTION
⟹ Due to gradual depletion of world petroleum reserves and the impact of environmental pollution, there is an urgent need for
suitable alternative fuels for use in vehicles. ⟹ These suitable alternative fuels are bio-fuels which can be obtained from oils. ⟹ There
has been greater awareness on bio-fuels in developing countries in the recent times and significant activities have picked up for its
production especially with a view to boost the rural economy. ⟹ In view of this, vegetable oil and their methyl esters is a promising
alternative because it is renewable, environment- friendly and produced easily in rural areas.
