2. Planning
• After much planning, Jack and I have thought of three different songs which we believe
would suit our target audience and which we feel we could create a professional music video
in which we could achieve a good grade
• We chose three songs which were very different to each other in genre to decide which one
we preferred. The three genres that we will be exploring are indie, grime and house. These
three genres are popular within our target audience.
• The three songs that we will be considering are:
• Snap out of it – Arctic Monkeys
• M.E.N – Bugzy Malone
• Silence – Marshmello, Khalid
3. Song Choice 1 - Snap Out Of It
• The first song which we have thought about for the music video that we will
be creating is ‘Snap Out Of It’ by Arctic Monkeys. The song was part of the
bands 5th album and has a very catchy chorus which hooks the listener. It
was released on the 9th June 2014 and was written by the lead singer of the
band, Alex Turner.

4. The first verse is Alex proposing that she is not really in love and may still be in love with
him and should just face the reality of loving him. The first two lines are two smooth
sentence starters to talk to a girl which makes him look more important and cooler.
The first two lines of the chorus is Alex again trying to tell her to face reality and what
better way to do so than by shaking somebody’s shoulders. He knows that he may have
lost her to another man so is trying to get her to come back to him. He thinks that he
may have left it too late to try and win her back but he's going to try again anyway. He
then talks about the watch continuing to swing which is based on her being hypnotized
by the new man. He also talks about the fat lady having a sing which is a saying meaning
to not give up no matter how bad it looks. This suggests that he will not quit and give up
on her.
He then brings the song to a more personal level by saying that this new man isn’t for
forever and he knows that it isn’t going to work. He said it doesn’t sound much like you
girl which means he knows her well and is trying to bring that bond back.
Finally he talks about her being hypnotized and in a trance by this guy’s love. He also
suggests that there is more to him than she thinks and that he isn’t the one for her.
5. Video Ideas
• Woman walking through towards man but Alex Turner distracting her and
pulling her back but she is in trance.
• Swinging watches ahead of her, black in front, light behind, marriage ahead
6. Target Audience
• The target audience for this song will obviously be the indie/rock audience
which is
7. Song Choice 2 – M.E.N
• M.E.N. was he first song to be released from Bugzy Malone’s EP. In the song
he shows his two different sides to his life; his early life where he was getting
in trouble with police and gangs and the new money making side. The song
is named after the Manchester Evening News because this newspaper
published an article in Feb 2015 with pictures of Bugzy, saying he was
wanted for assault outside a nightclub so he explains what really happens.

8. Bugzy Malone tries to tell the listener how well he is doing and is excelling
himself in everything as he has all the best gear and is up to date with all the new
expensive stuff. He says he has a ‘cocaine white’ room which suggests that it is
modern, fresh and is brand new. Cocaine is also a very expensive drug so this
also links to his wealth. He tells us that he learnt about bills and how they added
to his mother’s grief when he was younger. He then talks about his wealth again
by talking about £25,000 and makes a joke about not having enough elastic
bands to hold it all. To add to his gangster look, he talks about making money on
the road which means drug dealing and he cannot put this into the bank
otherwise he will be arrested so doesn’t know what to do with it. ‘S-line’ means
the Audi S-Line which is a very expensive car so he is still bragging about his
expensive lifestyle. Bugzy talks about not wanting to meet his step-dad because
he knows he will want to get him back and will do something that gets him back
in jail (4x4 pad).
Bugzy is revealing that he has never told anyone about his mental issues, which
he might regret as he feels it’s driving him insane. Maybe if he had ‘contacted a
counsellor’, he would be better now. He feels that his problems are that bad that
he can link himself to a serial killer. He then explains that if it wasn’t for his
problems and hardship then he would not have been as successful as he is now.

10. Video Ideas
• I think the main structure of this music video would have to be performance
as there is not much of a storyline to the song and is more describing.
• There could be small conceptual clips to help explain the lyrics
• Would have to be a big group of boys dressed in dark clothing to help the
mise-en-scene of the gangster.
11. Song Choice 3 - Silence
• Silence tells the story of someone struggling with their emotional well-being and
confidence in developing relationships. As the song progresses to the chorus,
Khalid expresses the strength that the storyteller has found to overcome their fears
of talking and deciding to break the “silence” they’ve felt trapped in up until now.
• There isn’t really a music video for this song but there is a creative lyric video. This
means this song would be a good choice because we would not be taking any
influence from past videos.

12. Khalid lived in Georgia, Germany and New York before settling in El Paso for
high school which means that he has ‘never felt a feeling of comfort’. He
explains his loneliness due to never finding love and makes the listener feel
very sorry for him.
13. Video Ideas
• I cannot think of any strong video ideas that stand out to me which means
that this is not a song which stands out to me to use.
• Lyrics and power words popping out the screen.
