4. LYRICS
Baby
First of all let me say
You can't accuse me of all the things
You know that you are guilty of
And I see that it is easy for you to blame
Everything on me
If that's the case I should go have my fun
And do all the things you say I do
Boy I can't continue to take this from you
I might as well have cheated on you (you)
As much as you accused me of cheating
I might as well have lied to you
As much as you accused me of lying
I might as well have gone to the club (I might as well, I might as well)
As much as you accused me of clubbin' (I might as well, I might as well)
I might as well have threw away my love
As much as you accused me
I should've cheated
You say I was out with somebody else
When my girl told me she saw you with some girl (some girl)
But I didn't accuse you of something that I didn't see myself (see myself)
Realize that I wouldn't never do anything to disrespect you
Trust me, you gotta stop accusing me
I might as well have cheated on you (I might as well)
As much as you accused me of cheating
I might as well have lied to you
As much as you accused me of lying
I might as well have gone to the club
As much as you accused me of clubbin'
I might as well have threw away my love
As much as you accused me
Don't you know I wish I knew
That you would treat me this way
If you don't promise me
That you've changed your ways I'm leaving today
And I ain't coming back
And you made it like that
Was unfair to me
All this jealousy
I'm your everything
What will you do without me?
Why you trippin'?
I might as well have cheated on you (oh baby)
As much as you accused me of cheating
I might as well have lied to you
As much as you accused me of lying (baby)
I might as well have gone to the club (baby)
As much as you accused me of clubbin'
I might as well have threw away my love (I should've give it all away)
As much as you accused me
I should've cheated
I should have lied
I should have cheated
Maybe I should have went out to the club
Or maybe I should have done it
Should have given away all my love
Or maybe I, I should have played you
Cause you don't appreciate me, no
And I tried to stay down with you
But you're making it hard for me
I might as well have cheated on you (oh baby)
As much as you accused me of cheating
I might as well have lied to you
As much as you accused me of lying (but I didn't)
I might as well have gone to the club (because I love you)
As much as you accused me of clubbin'
I might as well have threw away my love (baby)
As much as you accused me
I should've cheated
As much as you accused me of cheatin'
I should have cheated
As much as you accused me of lying
As much as you accused me of clubbin'
(I love you)
As much as you accused me of cheatin'
I should have cheated
I should have cheated
I should have cheated
I should have cheated
I should have cheated
I should have cheated
5. Music video highlights
This is a mini
storyboard of what to
expect throughout this
music video and how
Janaè reacts to her
husbands infidelity
scandal.
6. Camera Shots
In the intro of the music video it will be a series of quick jump shots highlighting the major scenes
throughout the video.
Scene 1 : The camera shot used in in scene one whilst Janae is at work will be a mid-shot and long shots.
The long shots will be used to show Janae interacting with her colleagues as well as getting on with work.
In addition to this, long shots show the entire body in ‘life size 'corresponding to the scene and audience.
A mid-shot shows a figure from the waist up and is normally used for dialogue or detailed action, the
background detail is minimal.
Scene 2 : The camera shot used in this scene will be a close up of janae on her way home from work. Close
up shots are used to magnify the object and concentrates on specific details on someone's face or mise en
scene
Scene 3: I will use an over shoulder shot to show Janae seeing her boyfriend’s infidelity first hand, then will
change to a mid shot when she addresses them and starts an argument. Additionally, over the shoulder
the shot is taken from someone's perspective. The back of the shoulder and head of this person is used to
frame the image of whomever the camera is pointing towards. Also mid shot shows some detail of action
and minimal background detail.
Scene 4 : It will be a mid-shot whilst Janae is screaming and shouting at Tyriese and he’s trying ton plead
for forgiveness. A mid-shot shows some part of the subject in more detail, whilst showing enough for the
audience to feel as if they were looking at the whole subject.
Scene 5: the camera shot for the last scene will be an mid0-shot as I’m going to focus on the emotions of
Janae and her experiencing betrayal. Mid-shots are emotionally neutral shots that allows room for hand
gestures.
7. Image & Style
Actress – middle class black girl who owns her own nail and hair salon (star image).
She represents herself as being the main character of the music video as all camera
attention is mainly focused on her and her actions, but also on the husband and
the mistress.
Actor- middle class black man who works as a mechanic, he wont exactly be the
star image but will mainly be involved in the bigger picture.
The artist Keisha Cole will not be present in the music video when we use her song
to recreate our own representation of how the music video should be. We’ll be
using our friends.
Style- modern day 21st century , format- camcorder, quick jump cuts that tell a
heart-breaking story.
8. Inspiration
- Keshia Cole ‘trust and believe’
-Mary J Blige ‘be without you’
Firstly, I felt inspired by these two music videos as they share the same story but projected
differently. Because of this I felt these two music were the best fit for the music video I’m
creating as I’m telling a story based of their different concepts and incorporating some of
their emotions and actions as-well.
9. Concept & Narrative
What is the main theme you will be exploring in the video?
The main theme explored in the music video is a man cheating on his wife and
getting caught in the act. Whilst this scene is taking place we’ll focus on the wife
reactions and emotions towards the situation throughout the whole music video and
how he’s going to try and ‘redeem’ himself. Additionally, no disjuncture will be
displayed throughout this video as the music video will correlate with the lyrics.
Dramatic scene- Husband caught cheating
Experimental images- There will be a series a snapshots of the music video no
longer than 5 seconds to anticipate what’s going to happen in the video
Amplify- Repetition of the key meaning ‘can’t raise a man’
10. Audience attraction & USP
The audience would want to see our music video as it’s a popular song and a
relatable topic that happens very frequently to young woman in society. However,
our video will have a twist to it as there will be no disjuncture like the original video
and it will correlate with the lyrics.
Feasibility- our music video is going to be very realistic because of the concept
we’ve chosen to explore, it will be achievable as we are well acquainted with the
people we are going to work with. Also, it will be easy for our image to come to life
as we are able to access the materials needed and we have a set plan in motion to
make it a success. Its aimed at any generation that finds interest in this genre of
music, the location will be in a modern day home.
USP- Is targeted at young teens and people who have experienced heart break
11. Music Video Comparison
Mary J Blige ‘be without you’ & Keisha Cole ‘trust & believe’
Firstly, the reason I chose these music videos was because both songs have the same storyline but projected
differently. In Keshia Coles music video she finds out her boyfriend of 10+ years has been cheating on her with
her best friend ,this links to the music video I’m creating as a wife catches her ‘husband’ cheating in the act.
She’s overwhelmed with emotions such as Keisha and reacts violently towards both individuals, causing the
husband to plead his innocence and beg for forgiveness; and the ‘mistress’ to flee the scene. In Keisha’s video
she’s chooses to target most of her anger on the best friend as shes feeling a gross amount of betrayal; such
as my music video where my main character is feeling extremely betrayed at the fact her lover , best friend and
companion had the audacity to disrespect her in such a manor. Such as keisha’s does she takes the pro-caution
to kick them both out and breaks down.
In addition to this , Mary J’s music video projects the same storyline but in a different format. In her music
video she projects female independence as she deliberately forces herself to be without her cheating
‘husband/ boyfriend’ to keep herself at peace. In comparison to my music video my character will then come to
the realisation that it’s okay to be without her other half and realise you ‘can’t raise a man’ and it’s okay to be
and alone for a while and perfect herself as a person. Mary starts off heart broken and upset reminiscing all the
good times they had wondering what she did wrong , and then starts to tell herself that she’s going to be
content. Such as my music video my character has a mini breakdown believing she’s worthless , but picks
herself back up and comes to the understanding that everything’s going to be alright and that this is a minor
setback for a major comeback.
In conclusion, both videos have a major impact on my music video as a whole as many ideas are interpreted in
different concepts. Mary highlights independence and moral/mental understanding. Moreover, Keisha
highlights pain, hurt and anger. All concepts will be shown differently throughout my whole music video.
12. Location
The music video will be based in a modern day home where Janaè will catch her
husband ‘cheating in the act’. She will be on her way home from work early, her
husbands oblivious to her whereabouts as he thought she was doing a night shift,
so he takes the advantage of stepping out of the marriage to cheat on her with a
random girl. In addition this , the second location will be outside the house near
the cars, as she’s going to kick him and the girl out but continue her argument and
rant outside the house. She then will go back into the house and breakdown
questioning where she went wrong.
Moreover, the main location for this music video will be inside a home in the
master bedroom and outside the front door on the main road.
