2. • Lyrics
• I can't believe you've got the nerve to say you love me
Then you left me for dead
I don't love you anymore
I hope you're happy since I don't know you anymore
You were a part of me
And now you're just nothing but a memory
No matter how bad I want you in my bed
I know that you found somebody else to be there for you
I'll keep sleeping sideways in my empty bed
To fill up the lonely space
I'm just a kid with too much lonely space
Now I'm just like the pictures that you take
I'm nothing but something that once was
Like colors that fade away in the sunlight
They're nothing special like they used to be
They're gone and they're never coming back
No, they're never coming back
I'm gone and I'm never coming back
No matter how bad I want you in my bed
I know that you found somebody else to be there for you
I'll keep sleeping sideways in my empty bed
To fill up the lonely space
I'm just a kid with too much lonely space
I woke up today and realized that what we had is dead
I'm just a pile of lifeless bones to you
I've spent too many years thinking about somebody
That doesn't even think about me
Thinking about somebody that doesn't even think about me
Thinking about somebody That doesn't even think about...
No matter how bad I want you in my bed
I know that you found somebody else to be there for you
I'll keep sleeping sideways in my empty bed
To fill up the lonely space
I'm just a kid with too much lonely space

influenced by bands such as American
Football, Brand new, Jimmy Eat World
and has been compared as a cross

5. Video
Conventions
• A Key convention of pop-punk videos is both a narrative and performance element in the
videos inc the band performing at various interludes in the video. The “I don’t love you
anymore” video follows this convention and is a mix of the band “real friends” performing in
a small garage or bar-like room and a man travelling through a suburban town with a fox mask
on envisioning memories of his ex girlfriend and her new lover.
• Another common convention is quick closeup shots of the bands hands or face playing or
singing throughout the performance side of the music video synchronising with the lyrics of
beat of the song.
6. Costume Conventions
• Pop punk encompasses elements of both the pop and the punk genres meaning
the costume holds similarities to both kinds of music.Distinctive aspects of the
punk rock style remain in pop punk clothing style resulting offently in a
dissheleved appearance; including ripped jeans, ear gauges, facial piercings perhaps
signifying the carefree youthful attitude the youths and the artists have
themselves.I don’t love you anymore shows us the main character in casual jeans
and flannel shirt of which he rips both and he generally looks unclean as well as
the mask of the fox(an unclean animal) adding to this look. The band also has a
kind of unkempt look with a few of them unshaven and with ear gauges and the
lead singer with his large long uncut hair giving off a punk rock style.
• The casual costume is also to do with the energetic music where everyones
required to move about a lot such as at gigs and performances.
• Current pop punk fashion has changed a lot from the earlier darker poppier
versions of eyeliner and baggy jeans, Vans or converse shoes are likely as well as
skinny jeans and branded music tops to do with other band swith that genre. We
can see Dan Lambton the singer here with a “citizen” tee another high profile
band in the pop punk scene.Varsity fonts are just as popular and promote the
youthful Americanised attitude.
7. Outlining the Video
I don't love you anymore
The song starts off with "I can't believe you've got the nerve to say you love me/after you left me for dead,"
which is exactly how the video ends. After the lyric "...and now you're nothing but a memory." the fox walks
down "memory lane" as he sees all his past moments spent with the cat. However, when he enters the forest he
notices the wolf and the cat doing better versions of what they used to do. By the end of the video the fox is
being physically ripped apart to resemble his emotional state.
(Quotes from The band )
interviewer: Tell us about "I don't love you anymore", what inspired its lyrics?
real friends: it's pretty self explanatory really. This song is about when I finally realized I didn't know my past
lover anymore. If you don't know someone, then you can't really love them. It sounds like a negative song, but it
actually holds a lot of positivity in my eyes. It takes a lot to not love someone anymore.

• 2.Relationship between lyrics and visuals(illustrative,
amplifying or contradictory)
• Amplifying relationships most common throughout
music video.
• “ I know that you’ve found somebody else”-Clip of the
ex girlfriend(cat) with her new boyfriend.

• 3.Relationship between music and visuals(illustrative, amplifying or
contradictory)
• Amplifying relationship between music and visuals is most common
in the music video
• In the intro there is the build up of the instruments w/o vocals and
the video builds up with an image of the bands drum kit with their
decals on it.
• Band shown playing intrsuments in time with the music on the
performance aspect of the video.
• When the pace slows down and there is more of a melodic area the
vocals also change and you can see the singer focusing and singing
more intently to highlight the emotion of all aspects of the music at
that moment.

• 4.Demands of record label will include
need for lots of closeups and the artist
may develop motifs which recur across
their work(e.g A Visual Style)
• Props around fox at the end of the
video relate to other albums and
their art, creating a reoccurring
visual style across all the
bands/record labels work.
12. Relationship Between Andrew Goodwins 7
Key Areas and “I Don’t Love you Anymore”
• 5.frequent references to the notion of looking(screens within screens,
telescopes etc) and voyeuristic treatment of the female body.
• Voyeurism/sexualisation isn’t evident in this
video because of its emotional message and
how he has lost the girl. But references of
looking are evident. The tv at the end of the
video represents his broken vision and how
the fox can only look backwards at his
broken relationship. But there is the projector
screen the ca and her new boyfriend are
looking at representing how they can look
into the future and are happy together.

• 6.Intertextual references to films/TV programs/other music videos etc.
• Limited intertextual references but I did
find a couple which could be nuances to
other music videos either themselves or
big hits in the pop punk scene(Neck
deep’s-A Part of me).
14. Relationship Between Andrew Goodwins 7
Key Areas and “I Don’t Love you Anymore”
• 7.Whether the video is primarily performance based, narrative based or concept based and
how elements of each are used in it.
• The video in bulk is narrative based following the story of how the fox walks down
"memory lane" as he sees all his past moments spent with the cat. However, when he enters
the forest he notices the wolf and the cat doing better versions of what they used to do. By
the end of the video the fox is being physically ripped apart to resemble his emotional state.
The lyrics heavily relate to the video and tell us a little bit more about the meaning than the
video being heavily literal. There is aspects of performance but they are entirely separated
from the narrative. The only concept aspects I can see is the fact that the characters are
wearing animal masks which could be to separate the traditional love story of the
‘handsome’ guy and ‘gorgeous girl’ and lets the viewers relate to the faceless characters
more.
