2. Public Service Sector
This sector indirectly/directly delivers services of leisure and recreation.The primary focus of
this sector is enhancing quality of life and the well-being of people.This type of public service
reinforces values and ideals in order to establish and maintain healthy lifestyle for an
individual.Also, providing opportunities for disadvantaged clients, and opportunities that
would be of value by society.

School

of a public service sector
as it gives opportunities
for people of all ages and
types, to participate in
physically activity in some
form. An affordable and
accessible way to engage
in fitness/sport.

5. Tynehead Park
• Address: 17200 96Ave,
Surrey – Fraser Heights
• Public –This is an
example of a public sector
as it is especially
accessible to the
community around it, as
well as free. Gives people
a chance to explore the
park through out the day.

6. Connections to SPSC 2210
(Public Service Sector)
• Bothwell Elementary School – Recreation, Education and Coaching
• It offers activities for children through sport, and use of outdoor playground, as well as after school events.
• Includes opportunities for learning various subjects as well as basic skills in life.
• Potential after school programs and coaching sessions from coaches that are certified; sports such as badminton.
• Fraser Heights Recreation Centre – Recreation and Coaching
• Offers the local community to participate in sport and physical activity in general, in a convenient way.
• Could offer group or 1 on 1 coaching through the school. Organization offers lesson plans in sport and recreational activities.
• Tynehead Park – Recreation
• Open to the public to explore through the park to its entirety. Also includes a dog park area that is specifically off-leash to
allow for pets to roam the area.

7. Private Service Sector
(Non-profit)
• This sector deals with business opportunities of leisure and recreation that in turn
has recognized need for innovative goods and services. Overall, there being five
areas of commercial recreation services.These are: travel/tourism, entertainment,
leisure in natural environment, hospitality/food, and retail activities.

8. Pacific Academy
(Private school)

quality”. Serves as a public
good in order to retain
control, although
primarily for profit.

(Private Service Sector)
• Pacific Academy (private school) – Recreation, Education, and Coaching
• Offers various programs during and after school, and includes outdoor facilities open to students. Includes
teaching and learning through various subjects, and physical education sessions. For sports such as
basketball, volleyball, and badminton, coaches with certification would work with students after school
times.
• Lori Collins – OxygenYoga & Fitness – Recreation
• Open to the general public, to help with teaching yoga and improving physical fitness. An opportunity to
meet like-minded individuals and socialize during the sessions.
• Café Rosen – Coffee and Dessert – Recreation
• Open to the general public, especially during the morning to grab a coffee, and be able to socialize with
friends.

12. Volunteer Service Sector
(Non-profit)
• The area of service where the closest ties are with local communities, as the
organizations are primarily run by volunteers.The key features of this sector
include being organized, private, non-profit, self-governing, as well as voluntary.

Animal Hospital

• Volunteer – has close
ties to community, as
most locals would take
pets to this hospital. It is
an organized and
private, non-profit
organization. Generally
open all the time,
especially overnight for
emergency situations.

14. Fraser Heights
2 in 1 Soccer
• Address: 11008 155 St Fraser
Heights, Surrey BC
• Volunteer – makes profit to
sustain its services, which
becomes a public good. Great
for the community, as it gains
interest of few to a larger
group. Community sport
organization that occurs
most of the time but often
seasonal, determined by the
level of interest.

15. Calvary Church
• Address: 16293 104 Ave,
Surrey – Fraser Heights
• Volunteer: Non-profit
organization. Generates
profit to cover only costs.
Good for select populations
and people of all ages. Often
participates in donations and
fundraising events. Groups
that establish interest in the
church, would formalize into

(Volunteer Service Sector)
• Fraser HeightsAnimal Hospital – Recreation
• Allows the local community to bring in their pets to receive a check up.Veterinarians would have specific sessions or
programs for pets to check on their progress.
• Fraser Heights 2 in 1 Soccer – Recreation and Coaching
• Gives young children the opportunity to be introduced to the sport of soccer and mainly to engage in play. An inclusive
environment for all forms in abilities.
• Coaches within this organization would need to have completed their coaching certification.There are various programs set
up where coaches would teach different techniques and tactics as well as basic abilities and motor skills.
• CalvaryChurch – Recreation and Education
• Offers an assortment of activities where the local community could socialize amongst those with similar morals and beliefs.
• Provides opportunity in learning about culture and religion, as well as after school events for children to engage in play and
tutoring.
