SECONDARY
SCHOOL
Connection: Physical Education
This is a Physical Education example as
the school provides a Physical Education
program up until grade twelve. Here
there is a belief that Physical Education
through public school systems
“reinforces values and ideals of
establishing and maintaining a healthy
lifestyle to the user” (Lunn, 2021, p.3).
They establish the main values of healthy
living to allow for students to maintain it
throughout their whole life. Also, LTSS
provides this program for free to allow
for all to participate no matter their
socio-economic status (Lunn, 2021, p.3).
This builds a sense of community where
all feel welcome.

the many public sector schools found in this area. It is
funded through “taxpayer” dollars to allow for all children
within the catchment to participate in education. They
provide the essential needs for all demographics to allow for
an inclusive environment.
Connection: Physical Education
This school's connection is Physical Education as it is apart of
the students' everyday curriculum. They participate in daily
gym classes, where they develop basic-fundamental
movement skills and improve on them throughout the
semester. Here children are encouraged to play and learn
and transfer these skills into their play time outside. They are
developing lifelong skills everyday learnt through all subjects
taught.

as it is funded through the government.
Here people must pay a fee to use the
facility, but it is a small fee and much

Connection: Recreation
Cloverdale Recreation Center located in the heart of Cloverdale has
been such a positive benefit for the health of many people within this
area. This facility is apart of the recreation system providing those
who use it with a weightlifting gym, spin classroom, extra curricular
events rooms and normal gyms. People come here looking to better
their health by using the equipment provided freely with the help of
money from “taxpayers” (Lunn, 2021, p. 3). The architecture and
design “promote health and well-being” by “preserv[ing] cultural
heritage” through showing off the artwork of indigenous peoples,
local artists and others within the community. This facility is not only
fitness conscious it is also mindful of other interests' others may have
and does an excellent job portraying them.
10. PROJECT CLIMBING
CLOVERDALE
Location: 17828 65a Ave #119, Surrey, BC V3S 1Z3
Private Sector: This climbing gym is an “indoor
commercial recreation” facility as it is “profit
orientated” by the owners of the gym (Lunn, 2021,

11. PROJECT CLIMBING
CLOVERDALE
Connection: Recreation
This facility connects to the recreation aspect as
people come in to enjoy the facility of the gym in
hopes of benefiting their health. This place has
established a positive community for all climbers
of any level which in turn has promoted better
health for many (including myself). The partaking
in this activity allows for the participant to come in
on their own time and improve at their own pace.
There is no exterior pressure to improve other
then what your cognitive self decides. This
environment also doesn’t have time constraints
and allows the user to go for as long as they would
like. Finally, people here can socialize and build
friendships with other people who have common
interests.

12. A & T EQUESTRIAN CENTRE
Location: 4615 190 St, Surrey, BC V3Z 1B2
Private sector: this privately owned barn provides its customers
with riding lessons no matter their skill level. The main goal of
this business is profit. They supply their customers with coaching,
horses and tac allowing for a cheaper alternative in the equine
world. The cliental is also more targeted to those with higher
income and specific interests of riding horses.
Connection: Coaching/Recreation
Depending on the experience the rider has will depend on
whether this activity is coaching based, or recreation based.
Regarding coaching, they are hired based on what the customer
desires and teach the student the ideas around horsemanship
and how to ride a horse. However, some people use this facility
for recreation purposes where they already have the skill and just
enjoy riding horses. In that case recreation best fits their
connection to this facility as they are using the horses for
personal means and do not expect to be trained on the activity.
They grow as a rider at their own pace and are not being told by
another person how to ride the horse. A good example of this is
birthday party, which occur at this facility a lot.

13. CLOVERDALE
TRADITIONAL
Location: 17857 56 Ave, Surrey, BC V3S 1E2
Private Sector: this school which runs from
kindergarten to grade 7, requires a fee
upon entering the school. It is a private
education system where it is profit
orientated (Lunn, 2021, p. 6).
Connection: Physical Education
Being that this facility is a school their
connection would be Physical Education as
they are teaching the students lifelong skills
for health. Their curriculum would
incorporate daily Physical activity where the
students are taught fundamental
movement skills.
15. CLOVERDALE MINOR
BASEBALL
Location: Cloverdale, Surrey
Volunteer sector: This is volunteers based as this club relies on parent
volunteers to be apart of the coaching staff. They also rely on the
community to produce some of the funding the teams will encounter
throughout their season (Lunn, 2021, p. 10).
Connection: Coaching
This minor baseball environment is run by parent volunteers. Without
such thing this program would not exist. Coaches are needed to help run
practices and schedule games. They assist with the development of the
player and allow for long term growth as a person and athlete. In
addition, they are the main role models for these athletes and provide
them with a space where they can express themselves how they would
like. This club is based in Cloverdale, is a community orientated club and
utilizes the facilities built in Cloverdale for baseball (Lunn, 2021, p. 9).

16. CLOVERDALE
FURY SOFTBALL
Location: Cloverdale, Surrey
Volunteer Sector: This club like the Cloverdale
minor baseball club is volunteer based as they
rely on parents to coach teams. They are also
heavily fundraising orientated and rely heavily on
community facilities like Cloverdale Athletic Park.
These facilities are provided by the city which
allow for the teams to use them.
Connection: Coaching
Athletes rely on a volunteer based coaching
system to provide them with the essential skills to
play softball. Here weekly practices are held to
improve the skills of the athletes. Practices and
games are scheduled by the coaches and the
drills done are also designed by them. This team-
based activity is designed to build athletic
abilities within the sport but also build lifelong
skills to make the players better people. Coaches
role model this and provide the players with a
safe space to play the game they have chosen to
play.

fundraising but is also heavily community involved, volunteering their time to
help other populations within their community.
Connection: Coaching
This is a coaching connection as all age ranges within this program are
coached how to be better hockey players. This system develops the abelites
of young athletes to allow for them to play at the highest level they choose
to play. In addition, this club has major sponsorships to allow for the coaches
to provide the best experience they can for the athletes within this program
(Lunn, 2021, p.9). Finally, athletic development and skill base is progressed
