3. Landing Leisure
Centre
The Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre includes an aquatic centre, group fitness studio, weight
room, classroom activities. It offers services to all ages from small children to seniors. The
Landing Leisure Centre is a place where growing up I would go swimming with my family.
I used to go to a lot of birthday parties there for my friends and had a few of my own. Now a
days the Landing leisure centre is a place where my dad and I like to go to use the weight
room together and then jump in the hot tub after.

4. PUBLIC SERVICE SECTOR
The Landing Leisure Centre provides recreation that
values and reinforces the importance of physical activity to
establish and maintain a healthy lifestyle to users (Lunn,
2020). There are many recreational services within the
community centre that direct to many different clienteles
such as children, mental and physical disability, seniors,
parents etc. Having this Chilliwack Landing Leisure centre
is a value to the community and city because it brings
good to the society by its necessary services to provide
active lifestyle (Lunn, 2020).

5. SPSC 2210 CONNECTION
The Chilliwack Landing leisure Centre is an
example of recreation because of its diverse
recreation and leisure programs that teach all
ages the important of physical activity. It is a
recreation example because the needs of the
general public are met by having aquatic, spin,
weight room, dance, cardio and many more
classes offered. The Landing Leisure Centre is
a recreational service and facilities that
municipal government supports.

6. CHEAM CENTRE
Cheam Leisure centre is a unique recreation complex that features an aquatic centre, squash courts,
weight room, and double gymnasium. It offers services to all ages from small children to
seniors. The Cheam Centre is a fun place that I like to go to with my friends to work out in the
weight room and use the gymnasium for the basketball hoop. In high school in the summertime
or on the weekend’s my friends and I would go to the Cheam Centre to shoot hoops but then
there will be basketball players from our school or other schools we know. We all would end up
playing big games of 5 on 5 with both guys and girls.

7. PUBLIC SERVICE SECTOR
The Cheam Leisure Centre provides services that
benefit the community and seen as a public good
(Lunn, 2020). It maintains a cost-effective
budget and ensures a greater level of
accessibility for all community members.

8. SPSC 2210 CONNECTION
The Chilliwack Cheam Centre is an example of
recreation and physical activity because of its
range in different programs. It offers recreational
needs of the public such as aquatic, weight
room, zumba, and cardio classes. It also has a
gymnasium and offers after school programs
that teach children different team games and
skills such as tennis, basketball, badminton,
dodge ball, volleyball. As well it hosts adult
tournaments of volleyball and badminton. It is
offered through Manipal government and
taxpayers’ dollars with small fees to use the
facilities.

9. Vedder Rotary
Loop Trail
The Vedder Rotary Loop Trail is a gravel trial that is alongside the Vedder River. It is 42 km loop that
goes to the Keith Wilson Bridge from the Vedder bridge entering Cultus Lake. Growing up and
currently I use the vedder trial to go jogger and walking on my off days from basketball training.
When I was in high school my P.E. used to run to the Vedder Bridge end of the trail and run 1km
then run back to the school. This past year the 2020 BMO marathon went virtual, so my dad and
I ran the whole 42 km loop as the BMO marathon.

10. PUBLIC SERVICE SECTOR
The Vedder Rotary Loop trial is public park that
offers outdoor fitness equipment, 42km trial
with kilometre posts, and park history postings.
It benefits the community by offering a place to
walk, run, bike, and ride a horse to everyone in
the community while being alongside the
Vedder River. It is deemed a public good by
giving a clean space to allow outdoor physical
activity.

11. SPSC 2210 CONNECTION
The Vedder Rotary Loop is an example of
recreation because the municipal government
level serves the needs of the public to
encourage outdoor physical activity. It is a
place to develop a community by coming to
together to respectively use the trail. Along the
trail there is serval parks that benefit the greater
good of the community. A few examples of
parks within the traill are The Great Blue
Heron Nature Reserve, dog off-leash park,
Yarrow Community Hall, Vedder Dyke,
Railway bridge, playground, and outdoor

Basketball Club

13. COMMERCIAL SECTOR
Trans Canada Basketball is a commercial or private
sector because athletes have to pay to receive their
training. The coaches and program coordinators
receive an income from the athlete’s participation. It
is a business opportunity but also brings leisure and
recreation through the sport of basketball to the
community. As well the program is a commercial
sector because it is a supply and demand base it
promotes the important of basketball training for
future progress which means they know they can
charge their clients.

14. SPSC 2210 CONNECTION
Trans Canada Basketball club is an example of recreation and
coaching within its program. It promotes recreation by having the
important of physical activity shown throughout and having practice
held two to three times a week. It gives athletes opportunity to have
growth in their athletic abilities. It is also an example coaching
because the coaches must teach performance, tactical, technical, and
mental skills to the athletes. The coaches must produce practice
plans and be able to coach a game. Another unique example of how
the program connects to coaching is it gives the opportunity for the
development of past athletes who have an interest in becoming a
coach.

16. COMMERCIAL SECTOR
The Chilliwack Pink Panther Field Hockey
Club is a part of the commercial sector of sport
because it is a profit-based sport (Lunn, 2020).
The owners and coaches make a profit of the
athlete’s fees for development. As well there is
competition and field rental fees. It is deemed a
public good because it offers girls and women a
chance to learn a sport that not all school offer
and maintain physical excellence.

17. SPSC 2210 CONNECTION
Chilliwack Pink Panthers Field Hockey Club is
an example of recreation and coaching. The
club promotes the importance of physical
activity and practice to improve skills within
the sport. As well it is an example of coaching
because the coaches need to work with athletes
in various ages and provide knowledge to
improve their performance, technical, tactical,
and mental skills. As well they must make
practice plans that promote athlete growth and
game plans.

School

19. COMMERCIAL SECTOR
Unity Christian School is an example of a
commercial sector because it is a private
school which means the consumers must pay
to attend and receive education and training.
The school makes money for tuition fees, but
the children receive a better education
because they are giving money for better
service.

20. SPSC 2210 CONNECTION
Unity Christian School is an
example of physical education and
education. Throughout the school
there is an importance for physical
education, active lifestyle, and
academics. It offers specific
physical education classes such
outdoor recreation and many
sports teams.

21. Chilliwack Minor Fastpitch
Association

22. VOLUNTARY SECTOR
Chilliwack Minor Fastpitch Association is
an example of the volunteer sector because
the association is run by members of the
community. They volunteer their time to
provide the service to the athletes (Lunn,
2020). The coaches are community
members who donate their time with no
expectation of payment.

23. SPSC 2210 CONNECTION
Chilliwack Minor Fastpitch is an example of
recreation and coaching. The athletes in the
program learn knew skills and practice skills
to improve performance and overall
wellbeing. It promotes learning, working as
a team, and physical activity. As well the
coaches teach new skills, create practice
plans, and game tactics.

24. GW Graham Secondary School

25. VOLUNTARY SECTOR
GW Graham Secondary School has many athletic
teams that are run by volunteers such as parents or
teachers in the school. The athletic department
relies on the efforts of members and volunteers for
sustained survival which makes it a volunteer
sector (Lunn, 2020).

26. SPSC 2210 CONNECTION
School sports is an example all three recreation,
coaching and physical education. GW Graham
athletics promotes the benefits that come from
playing school sports such as communication
skills, teamwork, physical activity, work ethic,
and memories you gain from being a part of a
team. Bing involved in school sports or an
extracurricular activity creates a well-rounded
student. GW Graham athletics displays
recreation by the importance of physical activity.
Displays coaching by the work the coaches must
put into the team and for the athletes. Finally
displays physical education because athletes are
learning sports and exercise important to be a
better athlete and for the body.

28. VOLUNTARY SECTOR
Special Olympics Chilliwack programs
are run by volunteers and volunteer
coaches. They ensure that the programs
continue to grow and give local
athletes an opportunity to participate in
sport.

29. SPSC 2210 CONNECTION
Special Olympics Chilliwack displays all three
of recreation, physical education and coaching.
It gives members of the community with
disabilities a chance to be part of recreation but
then learn the importance of physical activity.
As well coaches must create unique learning
environments that benefits all athletes
participating. The athletes not only compete in
specific Olympics events and sports but weekly
train in cardio, fitness, strength which promotes
development in all three areas of recreation,
physical education and coaching.
