- Example of recreation because there is something for everyone of all ages to
participate in is also used for physical education by the elementary schools and
preschool near by
4. Willingdon Park
- 1491 Carleton Ave, North Burnaby
- Facilities (two baseball diamonds, soccer field, playground, tennis courts,
community centre, walking trail, outdoor pool, small basketball court) available
for use by the general public
- This is an example of recreation because local people of the community can come
here and enjoy outside time. For all ages of participants and used by the
community centre for children to meet new friends and interact in a fun way
5. Confederation Park and Trails
- 250 Willingdon Ave, North Burnaby
- Facilities (baseball diamond, lacrosse box, two soccer fields, track, skate park, dog
parks, small trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, tennis court, basketball court, lawn
bowling) all available for the general public
- This is recreation because there are many different types of physical activities you
can participate in for any age, this space is also used by confederation park
elementary school where kids can have fun and participate in physical activity
7. Mountain United FC
- Burnaby, North Vancouver, West Vancouver
- Part of the high performance soccer league in British Columbia participants pay
annually in order to have competitive practices, games, and have high quality
coaching
- Coaching and physical education are combined here because the players are being
coached and learn each time they play
8. North Fraser Nationals
- Burnaby, Vancouver
- This team is part of the midget AAA baseball league as part of baseball BC.
Participants pay each season for coaching, competitive games and high level
baseball
- Both coaching and physical education are combined because players can learn
from one another and also compete at a high level
9. Burnaby District Metro Soccer
- Burnaby (with some players out of district)
- Part of the metro soccer league which is still a highly competitive league but one
step down from the high performance league, players pay each season for
coaching and competitive practices and games.
- Coaching and physical activity are combined because players are able to learn and
play in practices and games
11. Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver
- 1193 Kingsway Unit 102, Vancouver
- Provides young boys in the community with a positive male role model
- Combination of recreation and coaching because the “big brother” takes the role
of a mentor for the boy and they participate in various activities all throughout
the community
12. Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland
- 12 AVE E, Vancouver, BC
- Provides young girls in the community with a strong, female role model
- This is a combination of both coaching and recreation, like big brother the “big
sister” takes the role of a mentor for the girl and participates in community
recreational activities.
13. Burnaby SPCA
- 3202 Norland Ave, Burnaby
- Provides people of all ages in the community to volunteer and promote animal
adoption
- This is an example of recreation because as a volunteer you are able to help other
volunteers with walking the sheltered dogs or playing with them
