Project proposal title and date:
Desktop Diaries (Feb-May 2021)
Main area of activity:
The initial and primary area of activity for which my production belongs in is Stop Motion Animation,
where real or constructed object are rendered and moved around in individual frames to make it
seem like they are moving by themselves.
Rationale:
Over the last 2 years, I have been developing my skills based on animation, graphics and mostly
everything to do with the world of creating a new story. From when I did my ghost story project, I
worked on getting my vocals right for the characters I was playing as, and as for drawing
characters, the video game project helped me develop on characters that could play a potential
intriguing part. My previous project was the factual project, which didn’t have any spout of
animation within the final result, but my acting was key into building a unique overall character. I am
hoping to amplify these skills into further use and hopefully, in the mailing of my future characters,
these skills will be key in the constructing of this production. And only with hope, I will be able to
create a piece of animation that has both comedy and happiness.
Project Concept:
The main concept of my work is mainly revolving around the life of stationary on my desk. Has
anyone wondered what stationary do when the person of the room is not there, well this stop
motion animation gives us an insight into what really happens behind closed doors. But to put it
plain, the stationary comes to life, with iconic characters such as Stan: a stapler with a speech
problem due to the silver part of his mouth, and Ross Rubbington, who believes he is the boss of
the table and talks and a rough, hard man voice. Each of the characters have their own uniques
style based on stereotypical performances of those from the outside world, and hopefully, the
differences each character has will all make up into one simple friendship. In terms of research, I
will be composing a mass amount of research to get different opinions, because really the only way
to get a complete result is a variety of different answers, so I am hoping to create a mixture of
research ways to get different but reliable answers that will help me find a certain satisfaction
answer for the production to make everyone happy who views it. What inspired me to make my
work in this fashion was in fact Aardman’s own creation, mainly Morph and Creature Comforts,
whose designs and characterisations were the driving force of the initial planning within my mind.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
In most like conclusions, similar to past projects, the work will be evaluated and reviewed by my
fellow students, to obtain their opinions would be great because it will give me some idea on how to
improve my skills in the foreseeable futures as well as help continue to build my legacy in stop
motion animation. I hope that this feed back will also proved with guidelines on how to build the
legacy into something that everyone will like and that I can provide my skills to the world so that the
animation industry will live for a long time. I will also explore the technical and aesthetic qualities
that have been embedded within the work as it progressed throughout the weeks, and hopefully, I
can outline the pros and cons of the product to see what could really have been improved and what
went well in the overall result.

Week Tasks to be Completed: Specific Tasks
1 Pre-production  Proposal and background research (Delving into
key inspirations and think about what I will
construct)
2 Pre-production  Research- primary and secondary (Looking at
existing products and start to build my survey)
3 Pre-production  Research- primary and secondary (Analyse
survey results and conduct interviews)
4 Pre-production  Experiments (Early individual test animations of
main characters such as Stan)
5 Pre-production  Experiments (Continue tests and analyse
outcomes) Job: Keep track of composition to
match initial idea to a T.
6 Pre-production  Pre-Production and planning (Compose an initial
layout for the film and more development and
alternations to characters if necessary.
7 Pre-production  Pre-Production and planning (Cover essentials
such as health and safety essential
considerations)
8 Production  Production and reflections (Begin to film the
production in separate sections so that one
character is filmed at a time) Ask for friends not
compulsory to record vocals by given scripts for
characters.
Proposal

9 Production  Continue to develop the film with the different
variety of characters, time can be a challenge due
to this being stop motion which means the
expressions made from plasticine may take time
to get the timing right.
10 Production  Finalise the film with effects and score (music) for
the film if needed, then proceed to the main
reflection which entails what I did and how I felt
when making to it.
11 Production  Continue reflection
12 Production  Upload film and reflection to website
13 Production  Check if everything is in place.
14 Evaluation  Start evaluation, analyse qualities and appeal of
audience
15 Evaluation  Evaluation: Peer feedback collecting and upload
16 Evaluation  Presentation of work
17 Moderation  N/A
18 Show Preparation  N/A
