Main area of activity:
The main area of activity I will be working in obviously is film. I have chosen this because I believe
I am at my best and most creative when I am making films and I believe it is where my best talent
lies.
Rationale:
The past two years have been very productive for me. I have pushed myself and challenged
myself to do certain projects under specific circumstances. For example; when the country went
into lockdown I was forced to scrap my original project, which would’ve required a group of me and
my friends to get together in order to film. Instead I decided to make a 20 minute short horror-
drama film about a boy stuck in his room during lockdown. I was very impressed with what I was
able to make under very strict conditions. I was able to add a 4:3 aspect ratio and a black and
white filter to almost every shot in the film, showing off part of my creativity and giving the film a
claustrophobic feel and tone. For my factual project I this year created a short documentary on
mental health during lockdown, both projects I made using only my iPhone and iPad on iMovie.
This shows I have learned to use my own devices for my projects. At the beginning of last year I
created a music video for media using Premiere-Pro as my editing software, I have become
familiar with the editing tools and techniques of that software.
Using both of these softwares could be helpful to me as I could use either to edit my FMP.
Project Concept:
The concept I have chosen for my final major project is an “Office” style sketch show, consisting of
3 episodes all lasting around 10 minutes. The show will obliviously be inspired by the sitcom show
“The Office”, both the UK and the US version. My character will be loosely inspired by the
personality of the main characters of both those shows, David Brent and Michael Scott. My
character will not be an exact copy of these two but he will be inspired by and be as responsible
and as sensible as them. None of the other characters will be inspired by the shows and will be
entirely original, however I might recreate one or two infamous gags from the shows. I plan to use
the same style of humour and telling a story as the shows, which is mainly cutting away from the
main plot to interview a character and to ask them about how they feel about what is happening or
the situation they are in. For research I will look on YouTube to see if there are any videos out
there that are similar to what I want to do, I will take note of how they have organised the film and
how many people they have gotten to film it, as well as what they have used for a storyline and
where abouts in the school it is set in. For other research I will watch more of both versions of the
office and take note of how they have executed those qualities in their own way. I will take note of
the main characters and how they act and what their personality traits are. There is another show
that is done in the style of the office called “Parks and Recreation.” Since that show had its entirely
different setting and types of characters I think it would be a good show to add to the list of things
to research.

How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
To help evaluate the work for my final major project I will keep two reflective journals a week, this
will help me keep track of all the work I have done in the past week. I will be able to reflect on the
work I have done in the previous week and compare it, which will help me track the rate of my
progress, therefore at the beginning of every week I will able be to improve my work and estimate
when my final major project will be completed. I can also analyse all or most of my work to see
how it can be improved. This journal can also be used in my media career to make sure my work is
good and professional enough for any job or career I should want to pursue in the coming future. I
think the method is very helpful and will help me very much for the rest of the course.
