1. What Kind of Media
Institution Might
Distribute Your Product
and Why?
Question 3
2. Lionsgate
When we first began planning our film plot and the
storyboard including shots, mise en scene and other
details, we took the opportunity to find what
institutions had films similar to what we had planned
to create. Our two minute opening sequence of “The
Pretender” Is what we have identified as a
psychological horror. After identifying movies
distributers that worked with films I found were
similar, or had similar ideas, I found that Lionsgate
had distributed for films rather similar to our product.
Among finding this, we created our logo to look
similar to theirs to start our film, with edited red colors
to make it look abnormal, hinting at the genre of our
film, with red connoting danger
4. Now that our opening sequence is completed, I feel
confident that Lionsgate is an appropriate institution.
One of the films that have similar aspects to our
opening sequence include the Saw series. Although
the plot differs to ours, their main character being a
serial killer whilst ours being a stalker. The most
similar I find between ours is the element of secrecy.
In Saw, the main character is never shown directly
which is something we aimed to do, in limiting the
screen time and the face image of our main male
character, having a hidden identity . The film is
categorized as a psychological horror which
corresponds with our implied genre

character in Saw is hidden

5. American Psycho could also be considered
similar to our project, the main character leads a
double life which is similar to our film in the
sense that our main character leads a normal life
which contracts with his secret obsession with
the lead female
6. In addition, the film Hostel which has an
unraveling plot. Although it is unclear what
entirely is happening, everything becomes clear
as the plot goes on , which is what we would aim
to achieve if it was to be made into a full film
7. New Line Cinema??
However we did model our film on the Warner Bro‟s
subsidary New Line Cinema‟s film Se7en. The idea of
watching a man creating a scrap book we found worked in
favor of showing straight away that the man in our opening
was a stalker, as this is something you would expect them
to do. It helped us influence an assumption for the first
part, and that‟s what happens in Se7en, where a man is
making a scrapbook of various sadistic things, we are able
to understand that there is something that isn‟t quite right
about him. The editing is very choppy and fast
paced, connoting the mind of the character is
unpredictable. The lighting also is very dim to show that the
character is hidden away is isn‟t very open about his
„problems.‟
The majority of our shots were close ups in order to keep
the identity of our main character hidden.
8. In addition to the film Se7en New Line Cinema
worked on films such as a Nightmare on Elm
Street, whilst Warner Bros as the wider
distributer, on The Conjuring and The Exorcist
