The document outlines activities done by students to learn about composite materials. They tested different types of ice to find the strongest, explored natural and industrial composites, and tested various materials for strength and stiffness. They designed a fishing pole using a composite of materials and proposed an oxygen generator product. The generator would use chemicals and a fan to increase oxygen concentration for medical applications. In conclusion, the students learned that composites produce new material properties different from the individual components.
2. Outline
• Introduction
• Activity 1: Testing Different Kinds of ice
• Activity 2: Hunting For Composite
• Activity 3: exploring the difference between
strength and stiffness
• Activity 4 : testing a foam composite for
strength and stiffness
• Design project ( designing a fishing pole )
• Product Idea (Oxygen generator )
3. Introduction
is a material made from two or more constituent
materials with significantly different physical or
chemical properties that, when combined, produce a
material with characteristics different from the
individual components.
4. Activity 1:
Testing different kinds of ice
We done this activity to know which kind of ice is the
strongest .
we try three 3 types of ice :
ice with different
materials
plain ice
ice with tissue
5. Activitie 1 . Testing different kinds
of iceResults : -
The strongest kind of ice was ice with materials .
The weakest kind of ice was plain ice
composite is stronger when you add more materials
Conclusion of the experiment :-
If you want your composite to be strong add more
different kinds of materials .
The strongest
6. Activity 2:
hunting for composites materials
There are two types of composites materials :-
First type : natural composites . Like bone
A bone is a rigid organ that constitutes part of the vertebral
skeleton
made up of a composite material incorporating the inorganic
mineral calcium phosphate.
7. Activity 2:
hunting for composites materials
Second type : Industrial composites like Airframe
Airframe consists of : 50% composite, 20% aluminum,
15% titanium, 10% iron and 5% other substances.
8. Activity 3 : exploring the difference
between strength and stiffness
This activity was talking about testing strength and
flexibility of different materials
We took some materials :wood , plastic rod , nylon ,
iron rod and pasta to test the strength and flexibility
and find out the strongest materials
9. Activity 3 :

strength and stiffnessResults :-

The nylon cord is the Most flexible materials .
10. Activity 4 : testing a foam
composite for strength and
stiffness
We tested 3 different types of foam
First kind was plain foam
Second kind was foam with one side paper
Third kind was foam with two side paper
We glow the paper on foam and we fixed it with C clamp
then we tested it by different weight .
11. Activity 4 : testing a foam
composite for strength and
stiffness
Results :-
Plain foam
Foam one side
paper
Foam two side
paper
Results :-
• Foam two side paper is the strongest one
• Plain foam is the weakest foam
12. Design project
(Designing a fishing pole )
The final activity was designing project ( fishing pole )
We made the fishing pole with :
1- nylon Cord 35 %
2-wood 10 %
3-glow 10 %
4-cotton 10 %
5-straw 35 %
NOTE : We used the nylon rod and straw because it is
more flexible and strong .
14. Oxygen generator
The aims of this project :
to increase the a mount of o2 for respiratory.
The description of the project.
It is a box that contains a chemical substance that
absorb co2 a device that diffract water to produce o2 .
so that the a mount of o2 will increase in the air inside the
box which has a fan to blow this air out of the box .
15. Our product
Advantage of our product :
Our product will help the world in many fields like
1- it will help the patients shortness of breath .
2- it will help the environment by increasing the rate of
oxygen .
3- its cheaper than oxygen devices
4- easy to carry it .
5- we used already existing materials like:( plastic bottles ) .
we can use our product in :
1- schools 3- smoking rooms
2- mosques 4- hospitals
17. Conclusions
(Overall of the whole module)
• composite materials is made from two or more to
produce a material with characteristics different from
the individual components.
