HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE
COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN
PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY
TEXTS?
A2 MEDIA EVALUATION Q2
Due to the quality of my video, attempting to edit it to black and white simply did not work. In
both my album digipak and my website I decided to use the black and white theme however as I
believed it represented the tone and feeling that the video and the indie genre in general gives
off. I used iMac editing software to edit any images I used initially and then used Photoshop to
edit the digipak album front cover and back cover as these colours give a edgy mood to reflect
the music and also work well in terms of text and background colour so not to clash on the
digipak and the website. Putting this effect on both the website and the digipak allowed there to
be a clear link with the band between them, as well as the use of font with grainy hatches inside
of it; again for an edgy effect.
I also used the same images on the digipak and the website in the ‘gallery’ section of the
website that announces they are also on inside the album sleeve. As well as this I also used a
still image taken from the same live event that is featured in the music video and edited it into
black and white to match the theme.
During my research process I became very aware of the fact that personality of the artists is
very important within the Indie music industry. The image they create of themselves can heavily
influence their audience and nothing is better than an artist that both creates great music and
has an outstanding personality.
At the start of the music video we can see the lead singer of the band joking around and getting
involved with his crowd which automatically creates a funny personality and an obvious
established relationship with fans. I decided it was important to carry this over into the ancillary
work as much as possible and so when choosing the photographs that would appear on the
digipak and websites I chose the more artistic ones and then the more fun ones that I could get
my hands on to stick to thi theme.
IN TERMS OF PROPS, FOR ALL THREE PRODUCTS THE GUITAR SEEN BEING PLAYED IN THE VIDEO
AND THE DRUM SET IS FEATURED IN ALL OF THEM. THE INSTRUMENTS WE SEE BEING PLAYED
WITHIN THE VIDEO ARE PICTURED AGAIN IN THE IMAGES FOUND ON THE DIGIPAK WHICH IS
ALSO ADVERTISED ON THE WEBSITE. THIS GIVES A DIRECT LINK TO THE BAND THE WHOLE WAY
THROUGHOUT AND REFELCTS TO THE AUDIENCE THE SOUND THAT THE SRTISTS DO AND WANT
TO CREATE AND GIVE PEOPLE AN IMAGE OR IMPRESSION BEFORE THEY EVEN HAVE TO LISTEN
TO THE MUSIC.
THE SONG THAT IS HEARD IN THE MAIN MUSIC VIDEO IS A SONG CALLED ‘BREAKER’ BY A VERY
SMALL INDIE BAND BASED IN YORK. USING THERE SOCIAL MEDIA I WAS ABLE TO FIND A SETLIST
THEY HAD USED IN A PREVIOUS GIG AND I USED THIS TO MAKE MY ALBUM TRACKLIST AS THEY
DO NOT YET HAVE AN OFFICAL ALBUM. THE SONG ‘BREAKER’ WAS FEATURED ON THIS SETLIST
AND SO I INCLUDED IT ONTO THE ALBUM. IT IS ALSO MENTIONED AS A NEWS UPDATE ON THE
WEBSITE AS THE VIDEO AND IS ADVERTISED FOR IT’S RELEASE ON ITUNES.

  • 5. THE SONG THAT IS HEARD IN THE MAIN MUSIC VIDEO IS A SONG CALLED ‘BREAKER’ BY A VERY SMALL INDIE BAND BASED IN YORK. USING THERE SOCIAL MEDIA I WAS ABLE TO FIND A SETLIST THEY HAD USED IN A PREVIOUS GIG AND I USED THIS TO MAKE MY ALBUM TRACKLIST AS THEY DO NOT YET HAVE AN OFFICAL ALBUM. THE SONG ‘BREAKER’ WAS FEATURED ON THIS SETLIST AND SO I INCLUDED IT ONTO THE ALBUM. IT IS ALSO MENTIONED AS A NEWS UPDATE ON THE WEBSITE AS THE VIDEO AND IS ADVERTISED FOR IT’S RELEASE ON ITUNES.
