1. HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE
COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN
PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY
TEXTS?
2. My A2 Media project required me to make a music video to the song of my choice, in
which I had to create a storyline, plan and film the video, edit and evaluate. In order
to decide what song I would chose and plan what the music video would be about I had
to research into genres, artists, websites and conventions of a music video.
Once my chosen artist/song had been found and the music video had been made, a
Digipak and a website was created in order to promote the artist and the music video.
All tasks must link and therefore, must be of a similar format and design. This would
include the use of; props, costume, hair & makeup, colours, fonts and the main actors
featured in my video.
3. MAIN TASK- MY MUSIC VIDEO
I chose to make a music video to the song ‘Candles’ by the band
Daughter. The genre of their music and style is indie pop therefore,
I researched into what an average indie music video consists of and
the conventions used. The storyline focuses on the concept and
beauty of light and therefore, features many different types of lights
and shots throughout. A side storyline features a female and a male
who display their loving yet broken relationship, both acting as the
singers of the song through lip-syncing. I feel that I created a
powerful storyline which was based in location/surroundings that
would feature in indie videos such as nature and outdoor places.
4. ANCILLIARY TASK- DIGIPAK
To link my digipak with my music video I decided
that the front cover picture and the one that people
would see would be a powerful photo of light. I took
this photo when filming a light shot with my actress
and feel it reflects the music video perfectly.
The inside panel
includes:
A lyric book
Special thanks and
a message from the
band themselves to
their fans
Pictures of the
band, taken behind
the scenes of the
music video shoots
filming
Photographs of light
taken in London
The outside panel
includes:
Picture taken at
music video location,
features a candle
Picture of music
video artist on fold
out
Dark, warm, wintery
pictures to introduce
album
The back cover displays a list of tracks,
which is a common feature on a digipak.
It also has bonus tracks of the band
singing ‘Candles’ live and an acoustic
cover of their song, ‘landfill’.
5. ANCILLIARY TASK- WEBSITE
In order to promote not only the artist but my music
video and the song, I created a realistic website
featuring all of my own material such as information
and pictures. I used the website Wix, which gave me a
basic template in which I moderated to make it look
effectively indie to follow the genre. I featured pictures
of my actors from my music video to inspire people to
watch it, which is also easily accessible on one of the
pages. I am pleased with the look of the website as I feel
it looks slick and professional.
HOME PAGE
This features a picture of my actress, the
name of the band and an animated snow
background as my video is set in winter.
ABOUT
This page has information about the band in the
format of a message written by them to their fans.
It features pictures from my music video and a
rustic wooden background which suits the indie
style.
MUSIC
At the top of this page I wanted to have my
music video so it was the first thing people
see. It also has existing videos from the band
and a animated background of flowers as
nature is a common theme of indie pop
videos.
This features the Bands real tour dates as
well as a video of them singing live.
Contact information is displayed as well an
animated background which continues the
nature theme.
6. COMMON FEATURES IN ALL:
The Bands name- Daughter
Photographs featuring light
Photographs of my actors featured in my music video

7. HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR
MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TEXTS?
From looking at my 3 products, I feel that I have effectively continued a theme of nature, light and
indie features throughout each. Through my dark yet warm colour scheme they all relate and
look similar in appearance. My digipak and website both feature similar photographs and the
video consists of the footage filmed when taking the photos. I feel that through the images of my
actors my audience would look at my website and digipak and immediately link it to the music
video, which is an important factor. The front cover of the digipak is a powerful shot in the video,
therefore, they are linked. The video is also featured on my website, so the audience can easily
watch it, as well as a picture of my digipak. In conclusion, I feel that through the use of my colour
scheme, photos taken of my actors and shots and my general indie motif I effectively combine my
main task and my ancillary tasks together.
