How effective is the combination of your main product and

How effective is the combination of your main product and
ancillary texts?
 I believe that my Digipak, poster and music video all work together well and I
didn’t find any problems in creating them. I used similar themes and
images within all my products t create a distinct band identity. For
example, I used images of the three band members in all my products to
highlight that the music was made by them and promoted by them.

example, I used images of the three band members in all my products to

 The digipak and poster are almost identical in style as I used the same images
for both of my products. Simply, transferring them over on my digital drawing
software. While manipulating them to fit better on an A4 poster rather then a
square template. This means that they use the same imagery and have the
same dark theme. As well as linking to my music video as the artwork is
based off of screen shots from the video itself, I just drew round the opening
close-ups of the band members. This meant that audiences can easily
recognise that these products were linked together as they all have the
same atheistic.
 I also used the same font throughout my poster and Digipak, as well as having
the most similar one I could find on Adobe Premier pro for my opening pull
focus. This creates a sense of cohesion as they are not all different but

focus. This creates a sense of cohesion as they are not all different but
 The album names and songs also reflect that of the music video. As the main theme
of the video is getting over a bad break-up. This is evident through the tracks
“heartbreak”, “lets talk” and “unhappy in this mess”. Which creates an all round
theme for the band as the main focus for the video and album is the same.
 The title of the album is “into the darkness” which links to the dark editing and
narrative in the music video.
 The body language in my video and on the static images is the same. At al points the
band members look unhappy and sad, this is a reflection of the images found in
research about indie music. Reflecting the depressing song, video and additional
products. This worked well across all of my products as it is evident that they are all
from the same genre.
 There is a niche authentic style to many indie products which I believed I have
captured by doing the drawings myself. Most indie pieces look intentionally self-
produced by the band to create a genuineness that audiences like to see. It looks
self-created and low tech, something often used in indie. As well as in my music
video through the “thrown together” costumes and the small garage location.


 All three of my products are very dark which is a reflection of the genre. The
performance element of my music video is evidently in a dark location with an
adjustment layer to tone down the saturation. While, both of my poster and
Digipak have a black background as a reflection of this.
 Although, I could edit it now, I would add Glitch effects on my digipak and poster
also in order to have the main edit throughout my video placed on the ancillary
texts. Arguably, however this may not have worked with the style of a Digipak
and Poser as I attempted to do that when I was using screenshots from the
video. This made it merely look like a single rather then a full album with lots of
songs other then the one featuring in my music video.
 In both my music video and ancillary products I played with the idea of innocence
as symbolised in my video through the use of a park location. Used to represent
the naivety of their young love, this is seen through the illustrated poser and
digipak. It looks like something people would draw in their youth and thus, also
plays with the theme of vulnerability and innocence.

 The colours that I used on my main product were transferred over to my ancillary products as
the main link between the products. As the neon colours used for the band members
close ups of them singing the song matched the linework of the art. This created a
collective identity in the band as they all had a corresponding colour throughout all the
products. For example, the singer was blue, the bass guitarist was yellow and lead was
pink. Audiences would thus be able to recognise each band member to their colour, as
well as the mise-en-scene matching for all my products.
 The imagery for all my products is the same as they all contain band members and themes
of romance. For example, the artwork on my inside panel is a heart, keeping with a similar
use of symbolism in my music video. In the video I used roses but for the digipak it was a
heart. Both are used to have connotations of love and romance, intertwined with the
darkness to hint at a breakup or lost love.

 I did not include any of the images from my narrative parts of my music video as
they would only solely relate to that song rather then the album as a whole. I
also didn’t want to spoil the song to audiences who may have only seen those
products. However, I did implement drawing of screenshots from the song as
they are of the band members.
 I didn’t want to over complicate the Digipak and poster and kept it simplistic as a
reflection of other indie rock texts seen in my research and planning. However,
this can be argued to have restricted me as even though there is a clear link it
could have been furthered if I added more detail.
 On the poster I put that it featured the song “rise” which is used to promote my
music video. This was also placed at the top of the digipak to show its
importance.

Overall, I think that my media products work well and
efficiently together to promote the band as they all
follow the same theme. As well as, clearly illustrating the
idea that they are all from the same genre due to the
dark colouring used throughout.

As the main theme of the video is getting over a bad break-up. This is evident through the tracks “heartbreak”, “lets talk” and “unhappy in this mess”. Which creates an all round theme for the band as the main focus for the video and album is the same.  The title of the album is “into the darkness” which links to the dark editing and narrative in the music video.  The body language in my video and on the static images is the same. At al points the band members look unhappy and sad, this is a reflection of the images found in research about indie music. Reflecting the depressing song, video and additional products. This worked well across all of my products as it is evident that they are all from the same genre.  There is a niche authentic style to many indie products which I believed I have captured by doing the drawings myself. Most indie pieces look intentionally self- produced by the band to create a genuineness that audiences like to see. It looks self-created and low tech, something often used in indie. As well as in my music video through the “thrown together” costumes and the small garage location. 

The performance element of my music video is evidently in a dark location with an adjustment layer to tone down the saturation. While, both of my poster and Digipak have a black background as a reflection of this.  Although, I could edit it now, I would add Glitch effects on my digipak and poster also in order to have the main edit throughout my video placed on the ancillary texts. Arguably, however this may not have worked with the style of a Digipak and Poser as I attempted to do that when I was using screenshots from the video. This made it merely look like a single rather then a full album with lots of songs other then the one featuring in my music video.  In both my music video and ancillary products I played with the idea of innocence as symbolised in my video through the use of a park location. Used to represent the naivety of their young love, this is seen through the illustrated poser and digipak. It looks like something people would draw in their youth and thus, also plays with the theme of vulnerability and innocence.  All three of my products are very dark which is a reflection of the genre. • 10.  The colours that I used on my main product were transferred over to my ancillary products as the main link between the products. As the neon colours used for the band members close ups of them singing the song matched the linework of the art. This created a collective identity in the band as they all had a corresponding colour throughout all the products. For example, the singer was blue, the bass guitarist was yellow and lead was pink. Audiences would thus be able to recognise each band member to their colour, as well as the mise-en-scene matching for all my products.  The imagery for all my products is the same as they all contain band members and themes of romance. For example, the artwork on my inside panel is a heart, keeping with a similar use of symbolism in my music video. In the video I used roses but for the digipak it was a heart. Both are used to have connotations of love and romance, intertwined with the darkness to hint at a breakup or lost love.  The colours that I used on my main product were transferred over to my ancillary products as the main link between the products. • 12.  I did not include any of the images from my narrative parts of my music video as they would only solely relate to that song rather then the album as a whole. I also didn’t want to spoil the song to audiences who may have only seen those products. However, I did implement drawing of screenshots from the song as they are of the band members.  I didn’t want to over complicate the Digipak and poster and kept it simplistic as a reflection of other indie rock texts seen in my research and planning. However, this can be argued to have restricted me as even though there is a clear link it could have been furthered if I added more detail.  On the poster I put that it featured the song “rise” which is used to promote my music video. This was also placed at the top of the digipak to show its importance.  I did not include any of the images from my narrative parts of my music video as they would only solely relate to that song rather then the album as a whole. • 15. Overall, I think that my media products work well and efficiently together to promote the band as they all follow the same theme. As well as, clearly illustrating the idea that they are all from the same genre due to the dark colouring used throughout. Overall, I think that my media products work well and efficiently together to promote the band as they all follow the same theme.
