3. Summary
In the April 2013 Rana Plaza building collapse of garments
factory in Bangladesh, deemed the most horrific industrial
tragedy, Laura Cronenberg, The CEO of Tots & Teens,
hearing that news she and her Chief operating officer Jim
immediately fly to Dhaka to visit disaster and support the
victims and their families. In this situation Laura get
confused that they should stay in Bangladesh or leave. They
discuss with two expert John Manners- Bell, he said T&T
should stay in Bangladesh and Adam M. kanzer, he said T&T
can leave but more credible option is to stay in Bangladesh.
4. Rana Plaza Overview
• It was a garments factory building located
at Savar Upazila, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
• Factory manufactured apparel for brand
including Benetton, Primark, Walmart
• The building planed for office and shops,
not for factory.
• Collapsed date: 24 April 2013
• People died: 1134
• Injured: Around 2500
6. Reasons For Collapse
Direct Reasons
• Building built on a filled in pond which compromised
structural integrity.
• Conversion from commercial use to industrial use.
• Additional of 3 floors above the original permit.
• The use of substandard construction material.
7. Reasons For Collapse
Other Reasons
• Heavy equipment fitted on the top floor.
• Excessive people worked in this building.
• Ignored safety and other issue.
• Building was not perfect for factory.

• Labor and transportation are cheap.
• Good quantity of manufacture.
• Factories are clustered in one single area.
• Duty free access.

• Workers safety standard and regulation ignored.

• If T&T exited, others will follow

• Tots & Teens should stay in Bangladesh and support
victims and their families .
• They should build up a new plant and start afresh
and rebuild the supply chain.
• Develop competitive advantage.
• Being with workers ensure their decent wages and
rise standard living.
• Once T&T take care of supply they have to rethink
about strategy to shift to other country.
