2. TYPES OF TARGET AUDIENCE
• Different horror flicks are aimed at different audiences for example: The Cabin in the Woods is aimed at
young couples whereas Strangers is aimed at young males. This is usually because of the identification
of the characters and the audience. Nightmare on Elm Street was aimed at couples which is a bit more
of a broad label in comparison to The Cabin in the Woods because it targets couples in general of any
age whereas The Cabin in the Wood is targeted at young couples specifically.
• Our trailer will likely be aimed at young males and females because this should allows us to be as
experimental and venturous as possible without having to worry about scaring the elderly too much or
whether the cast are going to get sexist accusations etc.
3. AGE
• The average audience of the horror genre is aged from 15 to 25 because at this age, people are
experimenting with everything and anything for example; they are trying to feel different emotions and
feelings, they want to feel the rush of fear and anxiety etc. They want to be influenced and inspired by
movies because the characters are portrayed in so many ways that it almost guaranteed that one of
them is going to be almost completely relatable to the audience. Also younger audiences like to watch
violence and gore because it just creates the excitement and increased self esteem almost that they
walk away from the film feeling powerful and unstoppable, however, some movies have been accused
of causing viewers to imitate the killers and commit a sequence of killings and crime.
4. GENDER
• Males are more likely to enjoy horrors than girls because they thrive on the thrills they get from
watching them and because most males think themselves alphas of the species, to see combat and
action will only encourage their ego.
• Some females stereotypically refuse to watch horrors simply because of the gore and reputation of
horrors in society; a girl watching a horror is considered a ‘tomboy’ so to speak however, if a girl and
boy watch a horror flick together then it’s considered romantic which just shows that society have no
fixed opinions of anything meaning that audience research is in fact inaccurate and just based on
stereotypes.
5. CLASS
• Working class community is stereotypically more likely to watch horrors because they enjoy the thrill
they receive from watching them but also because their jobs are monotonous, horrors add a bit of
excitement and change to their days.
• On the other hand, higher class people are not as prone to watch a horror movie because of their busy
schedules, massive egos and just opinions of horrors, again this is stereotyping. Higher class people can
and do watch horror movies but somewhat of a subgenre on another genre such as romance or action
