Q3: What have you learned from your audience feedback?
I received audience feedback for the trailer itself, the poster and the magazine. I
showed several people in my target audience my products and asked them what
they thought.
First of all, the trailer, my audience said that as a whole the trailer was good and the
editing was quite precise however, they did pick up on a few things. There was a
lack of dialogue in the trailer to the point they didn't understand the purpose and lost
interest. I do agree with this and the reason why it lacked dialogue is because my
intention was to let the scenes speak for themselves but obviously I did not achieve
this.
The second thing my audience picked up on was the lack of activity and diversity
throughout. One individual said "so he’s reading this book and then what?" and after
reflecting ion this I did realize that my planning was insufficient and the outcome did
not suffice to the audience' requirements/expectations.
Again for the poster, there were some good and bad points my audience stated.
Firstly, the poster does reflect the trailer and magazine effectively with the use of
positioning, font and image. However, one person said there was little content on it. I
understand it lacks content but at the end of the day it's a poster that is suppose to
promote the trailer, it's not supposed to be filled with content.
Another person said that the poster didn't suit the horror genre, they said it appeared
to be more of a parody poster and lacked meaning and purpose. I completely
understand however, you can't judge a book by its cover, the way the poster is
designed is based completely off of the trailer. The same person went on to say that
"this entity differs from poster to magazine and isn't even seen in the trailer so do
you even know what it looks like?", this was most intriguing because they were right,
this was poorly planned because I didn't want to show the entity in the trailer so the
audience could use their imagination but then I created two more interpretations of
the entity however, they are 'just' interpretations, I have created a representation of
how people imagine different interpretations of an invisible entity.
Lastly was the magazine, the majority of the magazine remains consistent with the
poster visually. Also that the magazine does appear professional which was one of
the main aims of creating the magazine. There was only one setback really which
was someone pointed out that the font size and colour was monotonous which I
have to agree with but that's kind of the point; everything but the trailer promotion is
boring to make the trailer appear more attractive.
