Scene 1:
EXT. St Mary and St Margaret Church – MIDDAY
Open, green, religious in appearance, there’s a path that leads to the church’s entrance to
emphasize on one way forward. The sun will be covered by the clouds to ensure the scene
is clear but slightly shadowed. Ideally it will be quiet, no cars etc. creating atmospheric
noises as the church is meant to be isolated.
JACK LAWLER, THOMAS MOORE, KYLE GROVE and ANNIE HILL fearfully in search for
life as they are stranded, they are exhausted just about managing to get their left foot in front
of their right one. Faith has almost depleted when Jack manages to identify the corner of a
stone building, this will be an over the shoulder shot from his rear which will capture his
head, upper shoulder and the corner of the church. The camera will then rapidly pan to the
right as Jack SAYS, “Guys look!!!” Thomas, Kyle and Annie almost simultaneously look
towards the camera but slightly more ascended than the camera so they aren’t looking
directly at the camera. With what little dignity they have left, they stagger forward past the
frame.
Jack, Thomas, Kyle and Annie tread cautiously towards the church entrance during a rear
establishing shot because of this feeling of insecurity and the subliminal anxieties, as the
church seems alienated and hazardous. This is followed by a mid-shot southeast of the
group, framing through a car window or foliage, this is to give the impression there is a third
party observing them. They arrive at the church entrance when the camera will focus on the
four faces in a low angle close up.
Scene 2:
INT. St Mary and St Margaret Church – MIDDAY
The interior is predominantly lower key excluding the front of the church which will be more
mid-high key portraying a spotlight almost to signify something of major significance. Stained
glass windows with the sunlight pouring in and a cross will be present in the frame to create
the religious appearance and maybe a sign of religious distress near the higher key lighting
such as an upside down cross as a subtle implication that there is some demonic/satanic
activity present.
JACK pushes open the church doors and he walks in, KYLE and ANNIE will wait outside of
the frame to suggest that they are waiting for help. Thomas will wait unnervingly in the
doorway and WHISPER “what are you doing?” to Jack and Jack will dismiss the question
and have no response at all. Jack notices a dark, mysterious-looking book on the edge of
the front row of seats, he approaches the book in a mid-shot and low angle shot. Jack then
touches the book with his right hand, which instantaneously triggers a moment of mild
struggle, which will establish the vision that follows.
Scene 3:
INT. SWSC Drama Room - ANYTIME
The room will have low-key lighting and thick, dark shadows for a low vision effect, this will
also have the audience paying more attention to detail. The room will appear empty and
quite evil and unpredictable.
2. HarrowingProductions
JACK will be stood in the centre of the drama room looking forward. From the camera’s
perspective after being edited, the frame will be distort and blurred. Throughout the duration
of the shot someone will be making a crying noise and whispers to add to the tension.
Scene 4:
INT. SWSC Classroom – MORNING/MIDDAY
The scene is going to have a bit of diegetic sounds of STUDENTS MUTTERING, the
classroom will be set out like an average classroom. There will be a few props such as: text
books, exercise books, pens, pencils and phones etc. to make the scene feel modern but
like a stereotypical teenage class. High-key lighting throughout this will allow the scene to
appear brighter but still consists of a dark presence.
JACK will be sat at a desk staring into space and will start to hear a crescendo of
WHISPERS, the WHISPERS and MUTTERING ceases as the teacher enters the room
ready to start his lesson but the WHISPERS continue to surround him, increasing in
dynamics. The teacher will slam a book onto the desk to get the attention of the class and
simultaneously the WHISPERS cease and the almost jump scare-like sound will draw Jack’s
attention.
Scene 5:
EXT. Josh’s House – MIDDAY
This scene will be quiet, not a lot of diegetic sounds except for JACK’s BREATHING and
FOOTSTEPS. The frame will be mid-high key lighting. There will be a noise that will startle
him such as a RUSTLE or BANG etc.
In this scene, Jack will be walking home from school; he will be approaching the front door of
his home in the centre of the frame. As he is nearing to the front door, he is startled by a
noise that appears to originate from behind him; he curiously turns to identify what the noise
was but sees and hears nothing. He continues to the door and when he reaches to open the
door, his hand turns into a demonic-looking hand and then turns back. The camera will show
his facial expression with a close up, and the rest of this scene is shot with in POV.
Scene 6:
INT. Josh’s House - EVENING
This scene will be low key lighting providing us with a more shadowy frame. There will be
either a non-diegetic NARRATION or the sound of PAGES TURNING as JACK will be
reading this book. There will be a lot of household mise-en-scene such as mugs, food and
phones etc. to make the scene more relatable for the average person.
This scene is to provide emphasis on JACK and the mysterious book. It will start when Jack
enters the room and he will approach the book and sit down with it in his hands or on his lap.
Jack will be reading through the book and an over the shoulder shot x high angle shot will
show the page he is reading, this page will have some religious content on. A mid long shot
will show Jack on the sofa reading the book but signifying he is being watched. Following
this, a shadow will cross over Jack from left to right, heading towards the back door/s that
has a view of the garden. Jack then stands up and looks to the garden but sees nothing.

Scene 7:
EXT. Arran Way Woods – NIGHT
The woods will be dark and quiet; there will be sounds of WILDLIFE, RUSTLING and JACK.
The scene will be low key lit but with street lights acting as spotlights for added connotation.
The mise-en-scene will include Jack’s phone, bag and glasses etc. anything he has on him.
This scene will be very short in terms of occurring events as it is more of a build up to the
following scene. This scene will consist of Jack strolling through the dark woods to think and
get away from everything. Jack will look insecure as he feels as though he’s being watched
but comes across a bench and decides to sit but as he sits this is when the scene ends; with
him almost teleporting back to the church where it all started.
Scene 8:
INT. St. Mary’s and St. Margaret’s Church – EVENING/NIGHT
The church will consist of low key areas with the exception of the stain glass windows which
will produce more high key lighting. The church will have thick black shadows in corners and
other darker areas to denote the darkness creeping in on him. The scene will consist of near
SILENCE for vulnerability and it will contain religious props to create the church feeling.
In this scene JACK has appeared on the front row of seats in the church it started in. Jack is
disoriented and as he is getting his bearings, he senses an evil presence near him; he slowly
turns and is caught face to face with a dark, creepy silhouette just standing dormant, this
dormant silhouette slowly glances up and attacks Jack. The start of the scene will be an
establishing shot of the church followed by a POV shot as Jack reorients himself and turns
and this continues throughout the scene.
Title
Scene 9:
This is the same scene as scene 8 but is only the last 6-10 seconds of it when the spirit
attacks JACK, but this will emphasize on the jumpy effect the attack will create. The scene
will start SILENT and as the spirit jumps towards the camera, a loud sound effect with the
help of mild background music for tension, will create the jumpscare.
