Brief
description of
media
institutions

your product
There are several media institutes that could distribute
our film, including:
-film festivals-A film festival would enable film producers
to
-cinemas-Cinema is the most popular way of viewing
films, but there would be the challenge of getting
cinemas to put the film on their screens
-TV- the film can be shown on a television channel such as
BBC One or ITVTwo.TV would be the most viewed
institute, but does not mean that it would be shown
again, or that it would be shown as often or to the right
target audience.
Analysis and comparison of films on at
local cinemas
The most popular genre that is being shown at the
Odeon cinema is a mixture of the sci-fi and action
genres and this suggests that sci-fi/action films are the
most popular genre at Odeon cinemas. This suggests
that this cinema chain is not the right cinema to show
our film at.

At the StainesVue cinema, the most popular genre is
also sci-fi which suggests that sci-fi is a popular
genre at the moment due to high profile sci-fi films
such as StarWars: Rogue One and Passenger. Action
films, such as MonsterTrucks, are also very popular.
This suggests thatVue is not the right cinema chain
to show our film in.

is not as popular at the Ambassadors than at
other cinemas such as the Odeon orVue.This
suggests that the Ambassador is not the right

large budget films being shown.

Analysis and comparison of films on at
local cinemas
From my research, I have found that it would not be a good choice to attempt to show our film at a large
cinema company, such as Odeon,Vue or Ambassador, because it is not likely that our film would be viewed
a lot, if at all as other film genres, such as sci-fi, are currently more popular, so our film would be shunned
as it is not a sci-fi or an action film (both action and sci-fi are currently very popular genres.)
Another reason that it is not a good choice to attempt to show our film at a large cinema company is that
these large companies only accept big budget films with well-known actors and supporting staff, all of
which our film does not have.
Conclusion
Independent cinemas analysis
From my research of the BFI cinema, I have found
that Action and Comedy are the most popular
genres, but there are also films of other genres
being shown, such as Crime and drama. This
makes the BFI one of the cinemas that our film to
be shown at as they show a wide variety of films.

There is a wide variety of films on at the Reading
independent cinema.Among the most popular genres
currently being shown is Drama and historic films are
very popular.Other genres that appear include Legal
and Crime. This would make the Reading Film theatre a
good option as to where to show our film as our film is a
crime-thriller, meaning that it would fit in with the rest.

Independent cinemas analysis
From my analysis of the films being shown atThe
capitol, I have found that action and comedy are the
most popular genres atThe capitol.Although there is a
range of films currently screening atThe capitol, I do not
think that the capitol is the best cinema to screen at
because of other genres of film out-performing our film
due to their genre’s popularity, as well as due to their
larger budgets.

Independent cinemas analysis
From my research of a variety of local independent cinemas, I have found that independent cinemas are
overall more welcoming and opening when it comes to the genres and types of films that are shown on
their screens. This leads me to conclude that our film (The Hunt) would more likely be shown at an
independent cinema rather than a large cinema chain, such as Odeon or Ambassador, due to the fact that
independent cinemas will screen films that are made by local and national film production companies,
rather than the international production companies that are screened at the large cinema chains.
Film
festivals
From my research, I have found that the most common
film genre is thriller, with the sub genres of Action, horror
and Crime also being very popular. This suggests that this
film festival is a popular venue for thriller films being
shown. This also suggests that it is a popular genre for
small film production companies as there are a number of
large and small production companies that unveil their
films at this festival.
BFI Film Festival

Film
festivals
From my analysis of the Sundance film festival, I have
found that the most popular genre of film is Drama, as
well as a number of documentaries. This suggests that
this film festival mainly accepts dramas, in particular US-
made dramas, due to the nature of where the festival is
based, in the US.There are also several horror and
thrillers, but these are only accepted in the festival as they
are deemed as different from other films of the same
genre.

Sundance Film Festival
Film festivals From my research of the genres and films that being
shown at the Cannes film festival, I conclude that the
most common genres are Drama andThriller. This is due
to theThriller and Drama genres being very open when it
comes to what can be included, as well as due to the
range of sub-genres. Awards, such as best screenplay (Le
Client) and Best Director (Personal Shopper), are won by
the films and production companies that are in the largest
category. For example, as there were a lot of Drama and
Thriller films in this year’s Cannes festival, it is very likely
that the top Awards will be won by a Drama orThriller
rather than an Action film or a comedy.

Ocean’s Eleven
Where
could our
film be
shown
From my research our film could be shown at an independent
cinema, but not at a cinema chain such as Odeon. This is due to
these large cinemas usually only accepting high profile and big
budget films, that already have good reviews from critics. On
the other hand once a film has been accepted at one chain the
other cinema chains would also consider screening the film.
Although attempting to get our film into a chain seems very
lucrative, it would take a lot of time and money. By far it would
be easier and more worthwhile to screen our film at an
independent cinema, where less-well-known films are shown
regularly and have a higher success rate.
Therefore I conclude that our film would be shown at an
independent cinema (such as reading independent theatre)
rather than a big cinema chain (such as Odeon) as small films
have a higher success rate at independent cinemas due to their
exclusivity of being only at those select cinemas
Cinemas
Where
could our
film be
shown
Another media venue that our film could be shown at is at film
festivals, such as the BFI film festival and the Cannes film festival. The
BFI film festival would be a good option as there is a wide variety of
films from a number of genres, made in a numerous styles. On the flip
side, as there is so many films making their premiere, it would make
our film hard to be recognised by critics.
Another film festival for us to consider is the Cannes film festival, a
festival based in Cannes, France, with a focus on film made in France,
but films from outside France do appear. Cannes would be a good
option for getting our film out to the public because it is not just
focussed in the UK (like the BFI film festival) and so there is the
opportunity to get our film screened in Europe as Cannes is one of the
major film festivals in Europe. On the down side, there are many
French and other European films, our film can be barely noticed. To
add to this, most of the awards and high scoring films are French films.
Overall, I would think that our film would be best suited to be shown at
the BFI film festival because there is a higher chance to be recognised
by critics, due to the popularity of the BFI festival.
Film festival
Where
could our
film be
shown
Our film could also be shown as a television exclusive film,
being shown on a high profile television channel such as BBC
One or Film 4.
BBC One would a good choice for showing our film as it is
one of the top television channels in the UK, being viewed by
millions of people each day. On the other hand, the BBC only
put on the best quality films, and this would make it difficult
for our film to be shown in the first place.
Another television channel that could screen our film is Film
4, a subsidiary of Channel 4, that only show films. Film 4
would be a good choice for a television channel to show our
film because of its platform, as it shows a wide variety of
films from a variety of genres and this would make our film
easy to be accepted. On the downside, our film might not be
recognised due to the large influx of films that are shown.
Overall, Film 4 would be more appropriate as there is better
chance of our film being accepted.
Television
Where
could our
film be
shown
An additional media outlet that could be considered is
through online streaming, through a service such asAmazon
Prime or Netflix.
Amazon Prime is a video streaming service hosted by the
web giant Amazon. It would be beneficial to use Amazon
Prime to showcase our film because it would allow our film to
be watched on-demand. On the downside, our film might
not attract viewers.
Netflix is another streaming service that could be used to
showcase our film because it is a popular service, but is more
widely available, therefore our film is more likely to be seen
and viewed. The downside is that our film might not get the
best reviews due to the high quality of programs that are
already available in Netflix.
Overall, it would be more worthwhile to use Netflix for
showcasing our film than other top online streaming
services, such as Amazon Prime, because Netflix is more
widely available on more devices, when compared to these
other streaming services.
Online Streaming services
Where could
our film be
shown
Young filmmaker’s competitions are popular with young
people that have an interest in making films. Examples of
these competitions include various competitions held by
the BFI and British Safety Council (a Health and Safety
charity), among others.
BFI would be the more likely competition that our film
would be showcased at because of the variety of locations
in which the competitions take place in, as well as due to
the fact that our film might not fit other competition’s
entry standards (as is the case with the entry standards
for the British Safety Council’s competition). For these
reasons, the BFI young filmmaker’s competitions would
be more ideal than other young filmmaker’s
competitions.

Sources: https://www.britsafe.org/SUSS/risk
Conclusion In conclusion, from the research that I have done, I think
that the only realistic media institute that would
showcase our film would be a young filmmaker’s
competition because our film (The Hunt) would be taken
lightly by other media venues (cinemas, online streaming
services, etc.) As well as our film being taken lightly by
these other venues, our film would not have the budget or
marketing capacity when compared to other films shown
at these large media venues. A young filmmaker’s
competition (such as the BFI young filmmakers
competitions) would be the only reasonable media venue,
in which our film would be able to be premiered without a
large budget, etc.

Another film festival for us to consider is the Cannes film festival, a festival based in Cannes, France, with a focus on film made in France, but films from outside France do appear. Cannes would be a good option for getting our film out to the public because it is not just focussed in the UK (like the BFI film festival) and so there is the opportunity to get our film screened in Europe as Cannes is one of the major film festivals in Europe. On the down side, there are many French and other European films, our film can be barely noticed. To add to this, most of the awards and high scoring films are French films. Overall, I would think that our film would be best suited to be shown at the BFI film festival because there is a higher chance to be recognised by critics, due to the popularity of the BFI festival. • 18. Where could our film be shown Our film could also be shown as a television exclusive film, being shown on a high profile television channel such as BBC One or Film 4. BBC One would a good choice for showing our film as it is one of the top television channels in the UK, being viewed by millions of people each day. On the other hand, the BBC only put on the best quality films, and this would make it difficult for our film to be shown in the first place. Another television channel that could screen our film is Film 4, a subsidiary of Channel 4, that only show films. Film 4 would be a good choice for a television channel to show our film because of its platform, as it shows a wide variety of films from a variety of genres and this would make our film easy to be accepted. On the downside, our film might not be recognised due to the large influx of films that are shown. Overall, Film 4 would be more appropriate as there is better chance of our film being accepted. • 19. Where could our film be shown An additional media outlet that could be considered is through online streaming, through a service such asAmazon Prime or Netflix. Amazon Prime is a video streaming service hosted by the web giant Amazon. It would be beneficial to use Amazon Prime to showcase our film because it would allow our film to be watched on-demand. On the downside, our film might not attract viewers. Netflix is another streaming service that could be used to showcase our film because it is a popular service, but is more widely available, therefore our film is more likely to be seen and viewed. The downside is that our film might not get the best reviews due to the high quality of programs that are already available in Netflix. Overall, it would be more worthwhile to use Netflix for showcasing our film than other top online streaming services, such as Amazon Prime, because Netflix is more widely available on more devices, when compared to these other streaming services. • 20. Where could our film be shown Young filmmaker’s competitions are popular with young people that have an interest in making films. Examples of these competitions include various competitions held by the BFI and British Safety Council (a Health and Safety charity), among others. BFI would be the more likely competition that our film would be showcased at because of the variety of locations in which the competitions take place in, as well as due to the fact that our film might not fit other competition’s entry standards (as is the case with the entry standards for the British Safety Council’s competition). For these reasons, the BFI young filmmaker’s competitions would be more ideal than other young filmmaker’s competitions. • 21. Conclusion In conclusion, from the research that I have done, I think that the only realistic media institute that would showcase our film would be a young filmmaker’s competition because our film (The Hunt) would be taken lightly by other media venues (cinemas, online streaming services, etc.) As well as our film being taken lightly by these other venues, our film would not have the budget or marketing capacity when compared to other films shown at these large media venues. A young filmmaker’s competition (such as the BFI young filmmakers competitions) would be the only reasonable media venue, in which our film would be able to be premiered without a large budget, etc.
