2. WHAT MIGHT DISTRIBUTE OURS?
The most obvious institution for our media product would be
cinemas. This is because it can appeal to a wide audience and
also because cinemas are so popular it’ll be screened to more
people.
Another institute would be film festivals because our genre isn’t
really aired as much anymore, so maybe by putting it into the
festivals it might bring the popularity back up.
Another obvious one would be TV. This is because most people
own one and that means a lot of people can view it and plus the
target audience group is the ones usually watching a lot of TV
3. WHAT’S IN ON THE ODEON:
• Paddington
bear
• The hobbit
• Women in
black
• Taken 3
• Into the woods
• Exodus: kings
and gods
4. LOCAL CINEMA FILM ANALYSIS:
In cinemas recently there is a lot of variety in the genres showing,
like there is a comedy ‘into the woods’ and then action/historical
ones like ‘taken 3’ and ‘exodus’
This shows that the audiences are not enjoying a specific genre
at the moment but just an overall film.
This also means that the age ratings on the films are attracting a
wide audience as films like ‘Paddington’ are a PG, but then it
also has ‘women in black’ which is 15.
This means the only one showing which has roughly the same
age certificate as ours is women in black.
6. LOCAL CINEMA FILM ANALYSIS:
The ambassador I found had more variety in what they were
showing, as considering they are playing a lot of similar films to
Guildford… they are showing more family ones but also ones
which are on the Odeon's ‘what's on’
This could be because they may either have more or less screens
but may show more showings of things and therefore fit more
genres in
8. WHAT IS AN INDEPENDENT CINEMA:
An independent film is a professional film production resulting in a
feature film that is produced mostly or completely outside of the
major film studio system.
9. FILM FESTIVAL CANNES:
The Cannes International Film Festival (French: Le Festival
International du Film de Cannes or just Festival de Cannes) is an
annual film festival held in Cannes, France, which previews new
films of all genres, including documentaries, from around the
world.
10. WHAT IS A FILM FESTIVAL:
A film festival is an organised, extended presentation of films in
one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city
or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors.
Film festivals can help small budget films become bigger and
more well known and when they have the festival many people
attend like directors and producers which is good for actors.
11. TV:
Films that appear on TV are often on film 4 and bbc films and ITV.
One example would be silent witness on itv or broad-church
which are roughly the same genre as ours.
A film which has previously been viewed on film 4 would be black
swan which is a psycho thriller which matches our genre.
TV has such a wide audience as it appeals to all ages, genders
and ethnicities because of the amount of channels it is aired on.
12. YOUNG FILM MAKER COMPETITIONS:
Film competitions inspire young film makers to put their ideas out
there in order to see if producers and directors like them and
whether they have a good talent in film directing and making.
An example of a competition is ecologos The Water Docs
International Film Festival. This is a showcase for documentary
storytelling through the medium of film and a response to the surging
public awareness about water issues. They launch a Young
Filmmakers’ Competition, in order to inspire the creation of short films
that explore all topics involving water. The top films will be screened
throughout the festival at the Art Gallery of Ontario, and there will be
a special screening event for the contest winners
13. INTERNET WEBSITES:
There are many different internet websites which are accessed
by all ages and genders.
There are some small independent websites like indieflix which
allows you to watch independent films which may not be seen
on tv as ‘big’ films.
One other example may be Netflix as that is online and its where
you pay a monthly payment in order to watch the top releases
and any film which has previously been marketed. This appeals
to all ages and genders again as anyone can access it.
14. CONCLUSION:
In conclusion I personally think that the best place to publish our
film would be a film festival or a young peoples competition. This
Is because not many psycho thrillers have made it big recently,
but if we started off small so different director and producers saw
it, it may put them back on the market and these audiences
which come and watch at film festivals are a variety of people so
therefore it will be nice to see which target audience it appeals
to.
