2. HOW DID YOUR INITIAL IDEAS AND THEIR EXECUTION CREATE SPECIFIC
REPRESENTATIONS OF MUSIC AND THE READERS OF MUSIC MAGAZINES?
I executed the specific criteria's for the music genre very careful by making
sure that the magazine I created did have the correct criteria's, these
was things such as the bright colours within my magazine, the use of
gossip and celebrities throughout I did this to make sure that I stuck
with the conventions and therefore filled the criteria required for the
generics of the pop genre.
For the audience I had to ensure that they was enjoying the magazine by
not only supplying the specific criteria found in pop magazines but also
making it interactional for the reader and something they relate to and
use in their every day life. This was done by ensuring the use of tips for
fashion, social media interaction etc.
3. FOR THE READERS OF THE MAGAZINE, FOCUS ON STEREOTYPES
THROUGH AGE, GENDER, SOCIAL CLASS OR ETHNICITY.
For my magazine I had to focus on a specific target audience who was
young tenager around the ages of 13-19 however to make sure that it
was soething could be done with this small target age range I had to
widen it up to bothg enders instead of the typical female audience. This
was completed by ensuring that I had themes of unisex in there through
the colours, articles, pictures etc. The social class of the target
audience is represented through the language used being a lot of 2nd
and 3rd person showing the informality of the magazine and also the
pricing to show that the social class would be the lowest class
students, working people etc. The ethnicity for the target audience is
mainly Caucasian people due to the stereotypical people who like pop
music so this a market that is already out there which means it can be
easily completed and broke into.
4. WHAT SENSE OF 'REALITY' HAVE YOU CONSTRUCTED IN YOUR MUSIC
MAGAZINE AND WHAT TYPE OF AUDIENCE IS INCLUDED AND EXCLUDED
AS A RESULT?
In my magazine I have consistently excluded the higher class audience
through the informality of the text and the colour themes/layout. I
achieved this by nsuring that it was very cheesy and gossipy not to
formal which is soething you expect from those higher class
magazines. I didn’t want to reach out to the higher classes as they have
a very particular and precise criteria and the audience mass of those
compared to the lower class audience is considerably smaller, this
means I wouldn’t have a magazine that would be successful and very
difficult to ensure that it would sell at all. This shows that I did include
the lower class teenagers in my magazine by showing a sense of reality
that everything featured isn’t something they are aspiring and dream of
it is in fact actually reachable and can be something they achieve such
as the fashion tips, the story is based around someone who was a lower
class young boy at some time and now is massive and prizes etc.
5. REFER TO STEREOTYPES OF PEOPLE, LOCATIONS AND MUSIC GENRES.
The stereotypes of the people who I want to target will be that they are into
their fashion, love their pop music, go to concerts and love to gossip
they would be from city environments and small towns etc. (urban) this
is because I believe that this where the most of the target audience I am
aiming for is based. The tye of music they will be into is r&b, pop and
hip-hop this is because of the generics in the genres, they are all
aspiring and reality conventions within all the songs.
6. RESEARCH INTO THE HYPODERMIC SYRINGE THEORY TO EXPLAIN HOW
PERSUASIVE YOUR MAGAZINE IS IN PROMOTING IT'S MESSAGES TO YOUR TARGET
AUDIENCE AND ALSO RESEARCH INTO THE EFFECTS THEORY TO EXPLAIN HOW IT
MAY AFFECT YOUR AUDIENCES' BEHAVIOURS AND ATTITUDES.
In my magazine I wanted to give the audience the impression that the
celebrity who is being in the article is a very inspirational role model
and somebody who can affect your life in a good way. I affected the
audiences opinion of him through the images and language used within
the story and headlines. The image I used was very subtle and direct
address showing he is a affectionate person and is honest. The
language used was very honest and laid back the answer was very
humorous and chilled “Hahaha…” this is very targeted for my target
audience because they are at the age where they seek guidance and
inspiration and this is something they can receive from within my
magazine.
