2. Front Cover
• Rolling Stone magazine is the
genre ‘rock’
• Miley Cyrus posing naked on
the front of this is an symbolic
sign because she in the
industry and a lot of her recent
music is rather ‘riskae’
• It is symbolic that her mascara
is running down her face and
that she is wet from the
swimming pool to portray her
recent image change.
3. Front Cover
• NME magazine is the genre
‘indie’
• It is symbolic that the famous
band Mumford & Sons are
standing in a field on the
main image of this front cover
because most of their music
is acoustic, meaning that
there is no added fancy
things. So by standing in
nature it symbolises their
music.
• The bright colours all contrast
each other making the
magazine stand out.
5. Double Page Spread
• This Double Page Spread on Lady Gaga, has a distinct
layout in the sense that it has focused on placing the
image on the left hand side of the page and the text on
the right. The image is in black and white which fits the
stereotypical colours for this genre. It also makes the ‘L’
opposite to it stand out, but in a way that means the
reader can see read the text. However the red ‘L’ is still
the main feature on the page standing for Lady Gaga.
• The sheer size of the picture will attract fans of Lady
Gaga, whom has a very large fanbase, and this will
persuade them to purchase the magazine.
7. Double Page Spread
• By putting a large photo of the famous lead singer Mark
Hoppus from the band Blink 182 it will immediately attract
the fan base target audience.
• The bright orange against the black and white is very
distinctive and eye catching.
• In the top left hand corner there is a very obvious bubble
with the band’s name, Blink 182, in it. This is will attract
people that maybe only know the music from the name
and not necessarily the picture of Mark.
• ‘MY DINOSAUR LIFE’ will intrigue all readers to find out
what has happened in this famous singers life that can be
related to dinosaurs.
8. Contents Page
With the majority of the contents page
being a Black and White colour scheme,
the odd splash of red really stands out.
Apart from the ‘NME’ being in the red,
the other parts of red are the page
number. Having the page numbers red
makes them easy to find and attention
grabbing. By using just three bold colours
like black, white and red it keeps it basic
and helps the contents page not look
cluttered. By using a photo of the iconic
indie-rock band Arctic Monkeys from one
of their live performances and putting the
page number directly underneath it will
automatically attract an audience that is
interested in this band, and because they
are very famous, this will be a high
number meaning high magazine sales.
9. Contents Page
Whilst picking a contents page to use
for the Rolling Stone magazine I noticed
that they don’t actually title the page
‘Contents’ I think that this makes quite
a statement and proves them to be a
confident magazine. This magazine also
uses the colour scheme black, white
and red. This is because it makes the
red very bold and it is quite plain so the
four photos they have used stand out
and draw attention when you
immediately open the magazine. By
using a variety of different text sizes,
makes the page more interesting and
highlights the more exciting and
popular things to read in the magazine.
