1. Proposal
My genre of my music magazine is very mixed, as it hasn’t got a set genre, I love the idea of up and coming artists, but rather the singer/Songwriter genre that has blown up in the mainstream by Ed
Sheeran and Passenger’s unique solo play. Obviously these artists stick to a set love song theme, but more a few years ago, the unknown Ed Sheeran when he from my research sold his album “Loose
Change” out of his backpack, this up and coming genre would articulate well to an audience I am aiming at, these indie unknown genre bodes well with a hipster/ indie demographic, my research has
shown young people, between 16-23, part of this demographic enjoy going to gigs, usually in a small venue like a hall in Camden, or an Apollo, these kind of venues hold these unknown up and coming
acts, and these indie/ hipster people go to enjoy these gigs. In the music industry there isn’t anything marketing at these people without entering a mainstream audience which these people try to avoid, as
well as having a genderless audience, my magazine will appeal to all genders of my age range, as these kind of people associated with hipsters dress and act very genderless in the sense girls wear
maybe a leather or denim. coat, with a pair of doctor martins, very bleak in colour as well, the only variation from girls is that they may wear a flannel shirt and winged eye liner, so in the way the dress
code in very genderless so will be my magazine, suiting to girls and boys.
As a genre between all kinds of genres, ranging from folk to indie to light rock music, this demographic has been left so the opportunity to really there to get a large audience, so due to this lack in the
magazine market I would release my magazine weekly, with monthly special. This would be the unique selling point, how there is a definite lack in the market, I would always include a list of free gigs that
anyone could attend, also reaching the poorer audience that would like to involve themselves in this genre, not excluding anyone, and the best part about this genre I have picked, to this audience the
more unknown they are, the more pleasure these people tend to have, to my audience saying for example, you have been a fan of Ed Sheeran since he would perform in pubs gives them an enormous
sense of well being and self-happiness, giving the personal identity to the magazine, as well as that the audience would share there knowledge from the magazine and tell there friends also involved in
this individualist world, this social interaction would be another gratification to my music magazine. The audience grade would be ABC1, with a disposable income for interesting magazines, meaning that
my magazine content will be intellectual. My audience will also get gratifications, firstly information, I would put a lot of information in my work to show gigs, albums and artists, which would also give an
insight to people’s favourite unknown artists lives, which would be entertaining and gratifying to my audience also, my magazine would feature attractive boys and girls for sexual arousal in my gender
open magazine.
The content of my magazine would go as followed, of course a front cover, deploying all of the magazines main contents, top stories and other special features with the main artist on the front cover,
usually a slightly more famous artist to try and market to a mainstream audience as well as our target audience, the contents page will feature different subheadings, “This month”, “This Week”, “Agenda”
and of course “On the Cover” which would have all of the feature articles from the cover but with a description and page number. Articles would vary constantly, from talking about gigs this week, to
success stories to best songs of the week, I would include a large variety of articles as I’d love to interest as many people as possible, and as this lack in the market I feel obligated to show as much as
possible to interest this forgotten market.
Research I have made has lead me to believe that only Mojo is the only musical magazine marketing at a target audience like mine, and there Combined Total Average Circulation is around 70,667
according to MediaWeekly.com, and the most being empire at 147,980, signifying Mojo may be popular but not nearly as popular as other magazines.
Mojo magazine have similar conventions in there magazines, usually a picture is coloured but very grainy, or a HD photo in a dark room or just black and white, which signifies how the music genre has a
old theme, so a grainy or black and white photo gives the codes of music featuring, a very 90’s indie vibe. Similar to what I want to do in advertising unknown albums, Mojo sometimes feature album
covers on the main cover, in front of all the contents, signifying how they really want you to try there music out
There would be a sentimental value to my magazine, as every magazine will be made to feel special, subscribers would get discounts on paid gigs, as well, my magazine will produce posters of these
artists that are unobtainable, again making my magazine unique and out of the mainstream, subscribers will be able to also get signed posters and even signed CDs and Vinyls if they are long term
subscribers, as well as getting other rewards, my magazine will be very loving to its audience.
