EVALUATION –
QUESTION 2
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
• Man or woman aged
between 18-40. this
individual will be
sophisticated and have
an reasonable income.
Besides from this they’re
interested in the latest
news and older musical
artists as well as the
newest 21st artists.
The typical
demographic will live
in the city have a
family or lives with a
partner. Well educated
and owns their own
property.
This person will most likely be
a sociable person and enjoy
meeting other people with
these interests. Creative and is
adventurous within their
location and interests.
In terms with the
individuals attire, the
person will be casual and
they don’t take themselves
too seriously. They avoid
bright/loud colours and are
more neutral.
The demographic for my Vinyl Magazine are most likely suited into the social classes:
New Affluent Workers: This class has medium levels of economic capital and higher levels of cultural and social
capital. They are a young and active group.
Emergent Service Workers: This new class has low economic capital but has high levels of 'emerging' cultural
capital and high social capital. This group are young and often found in urban areas.
Appearance kept tidy but also creativity is key.
Non messy but also wants to express themselves freely.
This also may show how they want to include subtle
aspects of the soul genre and to infuse the 21st century
with the era and industry of soul.
Before producing my final product, I carried out an
Audience profile and wanted to ensure that the
connotations of the demographic were portrayed
throughout making my Vinyl Magazine. I feel I successfully
inferred these aspects and continuously included them
within my front cover, contents page and double page
spread.
Young and confident. Minimal attitude and friendly.
Talented. Well groomed. Has a young vibe and gives
off interests for old soul/Motown music however is
attracted by the latest released music.
Gold: Glamorous and represents
showbiz and unforgettable music.
Wealthy. The gold colours implies
wealth and sophistication.
The professional attire and well dressed
artist implies a job in the city and a well
paid job. No bright colours but neutral
and simple.
Strong, confident individual who aspires the demographic to be confident and a
powerful person. The feature article photograph resembles the demographic and how
they will succeed in their career. They also have aspirations and dreams and are not
afraid to strive for them. The artist on the front cover, allows these readers to believe
they are the best in what they do.
Featuring artists to remind the reader that
they can make it and can pursuit their dreams.
– male or female.
The masthead ‘Vinyl’ implies the authentic part of soul and how the reader is interested in consumerism
from that era. They enjoy music and play musical instruments and appreciate the objects that create the
oldest music.
The heading ‘Upcoming Events’ represents the social group as sociable and
approachable. Implies that they are able to attend these events and do take
interest in the soul genre and Vinyl Magazine; these are dedicated and passionate
readers. Willing to meet new people and share their interests with people all over
the UK. Plus, it conveys how the social group is non-stop and busy. Huge amounts
of time for these events.
The range of images, infer that the social group
is diverse and are engaged through people,
events, landscapes and objects associated with
the soul era. Admire music, travelling, concerts
and being social with friends.
The social group is up to date and accessible to viewing the magazines media elsewhere. Modern and uses latest
technology. They are interested in the latest news and enjoy seeing extra content that the magazine may not show; but will
show on their website and social media pages.
Represents social group are glamorous, well
groomed and is edgy. As well as keeping the
appearance chilled, they’re also stylish. Not to formal
and rarely any bright colours.
All the featuring stories are involving top soul
artists and musical legends. This represents the
social group as independent and striving for the
best. Additionally, it entails how they will not
settle for being amateur in what they want to do
with their career.
The feature article photograph
represents the social group and
makes them aspire to this artist as
he clearly displays success and
inevitable achievement. The blue tie
represents the pop of colour and
excitement the reader has within
their personality.
The three words in the heading on the
double page spread convey how the
social group is mixing the authentic
aspects of soul and also consumerism
of the 21st century.
The image in the middle of the article is showing the behind the scenes of this artist and how he still has a small part of his ordinary life. This
is shown to let the readers know how he is still a normal individual who chased his dream. This displays the reader to be a confident person
but also carries out their day to day activities and enjoys their everyday lifestyle.
Q magazine represents their social group as a
magazine that displays woman as strong and
independent. As they do this, the social group
they’re representing convey how they are
determined and individualistic.
However, the facial expressions on each of these
magazines look mysterious and full of attitude.
This gives the social group a view that they may
be stubborn and not easy going. The eye contact
the women are having with the magazine
suggests that they have stubborn traits and even
represent the proportion of the female
demographic as this.
They experiment with a range of angles which
resembles the demographic to be confident and
less insecure of their appearance as these
celebrities are flaunting close ups and mid shots
of their body.
How is a Vinyl reader presented?
Not in any way bias to a gender and has full
gender equality. The use of male and female
images engage with all readers. Furthermore the
age gap is remarkably wide; any age can read this
and it has a friendly tone (easy to be attracted to).
Q magazine represents their demographic
partially bias and male dominated; hence the
large use of female celebrities. Vinyl magazine is
fully equal and represents the featuring artists
and has a range of ages ,genders and ethnicities
in the magazine.
The vinyl reader is social and
professional and is a hard worker as
they aspire to the successful artist on
the front and inside the magazine.Vinyl is for the readers who enjoy the 21st century music and also music from as
early as 1930’s – 1980’s. This means they are experimental and are passionate
about music.
