Nurse Shortage Plan
The problem of nurse shortage is not new to healthcare. Moreover, it becomes burning in critical and
intensive care units where the workload is high, and nurses observe an increased risk of burnout
(Pastores Kvetan, 2015). Nurse shortage has a negative impact not only on nurses themselves. It also
influences patients and can lead to negative patient outcomes due to less attention that a nurse gives to
a patient (Ferrer et al., 2014). Therefore, there is a need for a strategic plan to address nurse shortage
and thus contribute both to nurse retention and improved patient outcomes. The purpose of this paper
is to present a strategic plan of an intervention aimed at reduction of nurse shortage in intensive and
critical care units.

Another strength comprises flexible internal policies which can be altered to provide nurses with
better work conditions. At the same time, such weaknesses as the lack of trained nurse managers and
poor planning of workload slow down the possible improvements. The organization is open to new
opportunities. Thus, it supports the use of health IT such as electronic health record to make the work
of nurses less loaded. Moreover, the organization is interested in continuous nurse education, which is
beneficial both for nurse employees and the organization itself since it will get well trained
professionals. Finally, the organization is ready to review scheduling policies to reduce nurse fatigue
and burnout. Still, there are some threats that can prevent the project implementation. There still is a
high risk of burnout because of the necessity to work in shifts and working extra hours. Moreover, the
lack of effective nurse leaders may not allow change

Challenges Of Air Freight Demand And Potential Solutions...
Challenges in Air Freight Demand and Potential Solutions
1.Introduction
Air freight market is not stable and might be weak because of uncertain international trade increase
(Barnard,2015). There was fluctuation in air cargo demand over the last 10 years from 2006 to 2016
which indicates that cargo demand could be changed by some external and internal influences. Some
figures were released about worldwide air freight market and presented that air cargo capacity
increased 2.2%, comparing to 2014. While this was the 5% growth calculated by The International Air
Transport Association (IATA), the growth of cargo volumes in 2015 was much slower than
2014(Barnard, 2015). However, some experts pointed out that global air freight market get a positive
growth from 2011, and it is enjoying a relatively steady growth, due to the enhanced trade and
economic recovery after the global financial crisis of 2008(Huang,2016). Because of sluggish world
trade growth, air cargo suppliers face a lot of challenges including alternative transportation,
perspective uncertainty and unexpected policy and here are some potential solutions: improving
customers service, efficiency, security and reducing negative environmental impacts.
This essay attempts to describe current air freight market conditions, challenges in air freight demand
and generate potential solutions to increase air cargo demand. It is divided into four parts: air freight,
current demand for air freight, challenges, and potential

Deaf Studies Advantages
The City of a Thousand Fountains
Deaf Studies is the study of Deaf Culture and specifically at California State University of Northridge
(CSUN) the practice and acceptable fluency in American Sign Language (ASL). As potential Deaf
Studies participants, it s important for students to acknowledge and prepare themselves for several
different variations of ASL and other sign languages. Studying abroad precisely in France is an
exceptional opportunity to overcome these obstacles and includes additional benefits. Therefore,
studying abroad is a beneficial opportunity to gain experience, develop a more appealing resume,
discover, and mature in several aspects.
Studying abroad
Studying abroad is a program offered at some colleges/universities to their students, in which a
student has the educational opportunity to live in a foreign country and attend a foreign university. A
student majoring in Deaf Studies can practically go anywhere; however, essentially for a beginner in
both/or ASL and educational travel must start in France. Due to the fact that ASL used in the US... is
derived from French Sign Language (FSL) (Sign Language), France is an extremely important

Causes of Bolshevik Success Using Voilence Essays
How far do you agree that the Bolsheviks consolidated their hold on power in the years after the
October/November revolution mainly through the use of violence against their opponents?
The Bolsheviks consolidated their power after October 1917 however they faced many severe
problems which made keeping their power complex. For Lenin and the Bolsheviks winning political
power was relatively easy compared with retaining it. The Bolsheviks may have had a temporary
majority in the All Russia soviet in October 1917, but they did not have a majority following in the
country as a whole . Russia was in chaos, politically and economically, and normal government had
broken down in large areas. . yet lenin was able to overcome these problems and ... Show more

The Workers Decrees outlined measures for minimum wage, limitations on workers hours, and the
running of factories by elected workers committees. This consolidated Bolshevik support amongst the
working classes in the cities, where they had taken power, because it gave the workers a sense of
democracy.
However Lenin also had solutions to these problems through a more violent approach, this was
repression. The cpnstituent assembly which had been promised by the provisional government took
place as planned on 12 november 1917 and the result was that the social revolutionaries became the
largest party in Russia. This made lenin fear was that the constituent assembly would challenge the
newly Bolshevik rule so when the assembly rejected by 237 to 137 votes to be subservient to the
decrees, Lenin took violent action by having armed troops and red guards threaten the assembly at gun
point to close down. The Bolsheviks had been successful because the opposition was divided on what
to do; half of the socialist revolutionaries supported the Bolsheviks and joined them in a coalition
government; half followed the leader viktor chernov who called for peaceful

High Data Rate Wireless Communications for Brain Computer Interfaces
Overview: To achieve full success in experiments on brain plasticity, bi directional brain computer
interfaces (BBCIs) must deliver activity dependent stimulation for extended periods of time in
unconstrained environments [1]. BBCIs are neuroprosthetics used for fundamental research in
neurophysiology and neural rehabilitation. The ability to stimulate the brain in response to single
neuron action potentials have allowed for high fidelity control of prosthetic limbs [2], [3], and such
devices have been shown to restore communication lines lost by disease or injury [4]. BBCIs are
currently limited by high power consumption and low data rates [5]: typical BBCI ... Show more

Backscatter communication operates by modulating and reflecting electromagnetic energy to a
receiver; the system is small and ultra low power because it no longer needs the relatively large and
power hungry local oscillator or power amplifier, although there is additional challenge of increased
signal attenuation. This currently makes operation in a high multipath channels (such as animal cages
and hospital rooms) challenging.
Preliminary Results: Working with Prof. Reynolds and the Fetz Lab, I have collaborated with two
graduate students to develop an initial backscatter system for the NeuroChip3. We have successfully
integrated with the NC3 and demonstrated wireless backscatter communication at 5 Mbps with 16
channels at 5 kHz sampling rates and 20 Mbps with a wired link. Initial VNA tests of modified planar
antennas in a mock animal cage have also shown achievable bandwidths up to 20 MHz, although there
is currently a high variance.
Research Objectives: My research will investigate the following questions to provide quantifiable
improvements on backscatter communications for the Neurochip3 and other BBCIs:
O1) Develop, test, and quantify performance of data coding methods to improve signal to noise ratio
of backscatter communication systems in strong multipath and Doppler environments. Data coding
has been shown to improve the performance of backscatter systems with a low signal to noise ratio

Guantanamo Bay Essay
Under the Bush Administration, beginning with the election of President Bush in 2000 and running
until early 2009, Guantanamo Bay was filled with suspected 9/11 terrorists from the Taliban and al
Qaeda due to the relatively recent outbreak of the war on terror. Large steps were taken by the Bush
Administration toward near guarantees of containing those responsible for the War, which can be
summed up in a human rights article by Martin Flaherty, [...] the Bush Administration adopted what it
asserted were three necessary and appropriate means that would serve as principal ways to pursue the
Global War on Terror, (36). These three means were indefinite detention, harsh interrogation methods,
and military trials. Focusing on military trials, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By including this vision of closing Guantanamo as a part of his presidential campaign, Obama gained
great support from the public. Once elected, Obama acted on his promise to close Guantanamo on his
second day as President, shown by Scott Horton in his article on Guantanamo, He (Obama) created an
inter agency task force to advise him on the specifics of this process and to create future guidelines for
the detention of terrorism suspects captured abroad, (1). The overall shift in opinion on Guantanamo
in both citizens and high up leaders of the country, however, was a result of many factors occurring
around the time of Obama s election. First, while Guantanamo processes and descriptions were long
held from the public under war time confidentiality, more information leaked out as the war settled
down, including a basic description of Camp X ray, which was, consisting of small cages with chain
link sides, concrete floors and metal roofs, offering scant shelter from the elements, and with very
basic sanitary facilities, (Living Conditions). Methods of torture also became more nationally known,
reinforcing the shifting opinion against Guantanamo. Finally, one of the largest reasons for Obama s
push to close Guantanamo was due to the lack of empirical evidence proving detainees guilty (Horton

Queen Victoria and Her Influence on British Society Essay
In the year 1819, one of Britain s greatest monarchs was born. Her name was Alexandrina Victoria.
(Price Groff 13) She would be remembered for the young age at which she inherited the throne, but
also for the confidence expressed in learning to master the techniques of ruling justly. When Victoria
became Queen, England was already a constitutional monarchy. Government policies (laws) were
made by the lawmakers and Prime Minister of Parliament, who were elected by the people. Because
of the Industrial Revolution, the British experienced rapid progression in technology. This change was
enjoyed by some, while others felt threatened. (4) Victoria made her subjects feel secure by assuring

The duchess of Kent secretly hoped George IV and William IV would die before Victoria s eighteenth
birthday, because she would be pronounced regent, (a person who acts for a monarch) therefore giving
Conroy a considerable amount of power also. (Price Groff 13) In 1830, the year Victoria was eleven,
King George IV died, and William was crowned King. Victoria s nurse, Fraulein Lehzen, showed the
princess a chart of the family lineage, making it clear to her that when her Uncle William died, she
would inherit the throne. Governess Lehzen wrote of this episode and recorded Victoria s response to
the information made known to her: I see I am nearer to the throne than I thought...I will be good! (14)
Two years later, Sir Conroy and the duchess planned and prepared regular tours through England. The
purpose of these annual excursions was to acquaint Victoria with her future subjects, and help her gain
familiarity with the people. To further prepare her, Victoria s Uncle Leopold wrote many letters of
advice on matters of state. (14, 15) On June 20, 1837, just four months after her eighteenth birthday,
Victoria was paid a visit by the Archbishop of Canterbury, and Lord Conyngham. (Chamberlain)
These men informed her of her Uncle William s death, but then bowed before her honoring their new
Queen. Her coronation day was set for June 28, 1838. (Kirwan, 190) Victoria came to the throne, the

Application Of Cellulases On Juice Recovery
Application of Cellulases on Juice Recovery
Introduction
Cellulose is the most abundant compound produced from stalks, leaves, and stems (Shankar, 2011).
The use of enzymes in the food industry provides safer and higher quality products. Cellulases are
enzymes which break down the sugar cellulose. Cellulase enzymes are produced by fungi, animals,
plants, and bacteria. (Zhang 2013) The cellulase enzyme has been used for various industry
applications such as the textile industry, paper industry, and juice industry. Cellulases link beta, 1,4
linkages in the cellulose chains (Zhang 2013). There are three types of cellulase enzymes:
endoglucanases, exoglucanases, and beta glucosidases. Exoglucanases act on the reducing or non
reducing ends of cellulose (Zhang, 2013). Endoglucanases cut the nonreducing ends of cellulose or the
beta 1,4 bonds. Endoglucanases are also produced by bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals
(Zhang,2013). Lastly, beta glucosidases are produced by archaea, bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals
and are known for degrading cellobiose (Zhang, 2013). All three forms of cellulases are produced
from animals, bacteria, and plants. The purpose of this paper will be to discuss mainly the cellulase
enzyme and its effect on the juice industry in addition to other applications of cellulase, and how
cellulase behaves in combination with other enzymes such as pectinase and xylanase.

HR Management By definition, HR administration is a formal framework for the administration of
individuals inside of an association (Bateman Snell, 2011, p. 340). Be that as it may, the HR office
(HR) is an a great deal more unpredictable and vital part of a business. Actually, it is one of the most
imperative and key parts of an association. As more administrators are getting to be mindful of the
significance of their representatives aptitudes, information, and capacities, HR administration is
turning into one of the most grounded divisions in an organization. It is turning out to be clear that
human capital and representatives are the absolute most significant assets that an organization can
have (Bateman Snell, 2011, pp. 340 341). For an association to completely exploit their human capital,
their HR division must have a vital arrangement set up, be morally stable in their procedures, keep
laws and the legitimate consequences of their choices at the top of the priority list, and must be
mindful of their budgetary circumstance. A effective HR office experiences a three stage procedure:
arranging, programming, and assessing: To start with, HR administrators need to know the association
s strategies for success to guarantee that the right number and sorts of individuals are accessible...
Second, the association conducts programming of particular HR exercises, for example, enrollment,

been disappearing from their hives or dying off. Bees have died off before in the past. This is called
colony collapse disorder or CCD. In the past CCD was cause by mites or infections, but now this is
caused because of the commercial agricultural farmers. Bees play a key part in pollination. When the
crops are pollinated by the bees, they are capable of producing the fruits or vegetables the human
population eats. Farmers primarily depend upon the bees to pollinate their crops. The honeybees were

Whatever the proximate cause, it increasingly appears that the bees are succumbing to a long ignored
underlying condition inbreeding. Decades of agricultural and breeding practices meant to maximize
pollinating efficiency have limited honeybees genetic diversity at a time when they need it the most.
Addressing CCD may therefore require more than a simple fix. We need to have a diverse set of
genetic raw material so we can find bees resistant to disease, says Steve Sheppard, an entomologist at
Washington State University. Genetic diversity is an important part of the solution. The problem is
hardly trivial. A third of the total human diet depends on plants pollinated by insects, predominantly
honeybees. In North America honeybees pollinate more than 90 crops with an annual value totaling
almost $15 billion. Indeed, that importance lies at the root of what went wrong. In trying to make bees
more productive, apiarists have torn the insects from their natural habitats and the routines they
mastered over millions of years. As a result, today s honeybees are sickly, enslaved, and mechanized.
We ve looked at bees as robots that would keep on trucking no matter what, says Heather Mattila of
Wellesley College, who studies honeybee behavior and genetics. They can t be pushed and pushed. In
the beginning, honeybees and their partners, the flowers, drove an

Now, seeing as though the measurable aspect of SMART has been expressed, let us move to its next

attainable: there already exist similar venues. So, without absolute perfection, this idea is attainable.
We simply invite musicians to play, we invite people to listen, and we invite people to create art.
Again, this is attainable. However, there is one aspect of the DIY Project that may be unattainable: a
alcohol/drug free venue. Unfortunately, some people enjoy sneaking such substances into venues. For
this reason, we will publically exhibit our disdain for drugs and alcohol in the venue: it ruins the
experience for too many people (speaking from prior knowledge). Also, there must be staff that
watches for drug and alcohol usage. This, in the end, may only allow for substance usage to become
lower than most venues. In sum, then, the DIY Project may not be able to rid itself of all drugs and
alcohol, but it can minimize the presence of such

Unferth Analysis
Nobility of Unferth
Unferth is presented halfway through the book Grendel. His presence is significant as it is the first
sign of mental equality with Grendel and another person. He is a hero of his own land and personally
believes this. Unferth is seen as a character of nobility, however he is also a foolish human which
shows through his actions when he challenges grendel, his personal definition of a hero, along with his
character during battle. When Grendel is challenged by Unferth, it is seen as honorable and brave,
however he is quickly frightened which can be seen as Gardner explains He glanced behind him,
making sure he knew exactly where the window was (Gardner). This shows us Unferth is cautious and
anxious about Grendel s presence. Throughout the apple battle, Grendel rapidly displays superiority
when he scares Unferth by throwing apples as a joke when he wanted to battle. Unferth becomes

A Positive Outlook on a Divorce
Divorce is always a dreadful experience in a person s life, especially a child s . When parents divorce,
children are left hopeless and confused. A divorce can cause a child to have a variety of different
reactions. The effects on the child are much more important than the actual divorce. A divorce causes
the most damage to the children in the divorce. Each child sees a divorce differently, but most
divorces have a negative impact on the child s life. When I was a teengager, my parents spilt up. This

Divorce has negative effects on children because if children are left out from one of their parents, they
are more likely to have lower self esteem and psychological damage (Portnoy et al. 126). So, some
children of divorced parents have behavior problems, such as, depression, low self esteem actions and
poor school performance (Portnoy et al. 126). Children often feel abandoned and unwanted and some
of them also feel that they are responsible for their parents getting a divorce.
Children usually feel a lot of pain and emotional conflict during and after divorce. Whether they say it
or not, parents can never be sure how deeply children are affected by the divorce and the struggles
around it. After a divorce, the child is left with a bunch of responsibilities that they might not be able
to handle on their own. In a research conducted by Mavis E. Hetherington, found The play patterns of
children from divorced families, in comparison to those of children in non divorced families, were less
socially and cognitively mature when measured shortly after divorce (Hetherington). A divorce affects
a child in many different ways. The hardest responsibility the children have to go through is knowing

Refugee Simulation
Being a part of OXFAM s refugee simulation in April was thought provoking for me because being a
refugee for many people in different parts of the world is an actual reality. In places such as Syria,
Jordan, Lebanon, and others, millions of people are forced to flee from their homes with many
obstacles on the way, such as leaving family behind and not having sufficient resources like food and
clothes. At the start of the simulation, I was informed that I was a refugee and I was paired up with
other students who would be my family members. Throughout the process, we were given a list of
supplies and had to choose a few that we wanted to receive. We would slowly get our supplies taken

Essay on Alexander The Great
Few historical figures stand out in the same degree as that of Alexander the Great. He was a warrior
by 16, a commander at age 18, and was crowned King of Macedon by the time he was 20 years old.
He did things in his lifetime that others could only dream about. Alexander single handedly changed
the nature of the ancient world in just over a decade. There were many attributes that made Alexander
Great. He was a brilliant strategist and an inspired leader; he led by example and was a conqueror at
heart. In looking at his early childhood, accession to the throne, conquests, marriage, and death one
can see why Alexander the Great is revered in historical contexts as one of the greatest figures of all
time. Alexander was born in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alexander, noticing the horse was afraid of his own shadow, brought him into the sun and calmed him
down. Young Alexander then jumped on the horse as Philip s men watched on with amazement.
Alexander kept the horse and named it Bucephalus, meaning ox headed. He and the horse were
companions throughout Alexander s journeys and conquests, and when the horse died he named a city
after him called Bocephia or Bucephala. Alexander s astonishing upbringing ultimately led to his
accession to the throne of Macedon. But first, Philip s life must be viewed in context with Alexander s
to see how this child became a king of a great nation. Philip had many successes in his early years as
King of Macedon, particularly because of his speed and decisiveness of action in battle. Within three
years of his accession to the throne at the age of 24, Philip had unified Macedonia. Philip s defeat of
the Greek allies at Chaeronea in 338 B.C. is typically regarded as the end of the history of the free
Greek world. In joining and making Macedonia secure militarily, Philip granted the conditions from
which emerged a Macedonian imperialism. Philip s efforts are made possible because of the army he
had built, which was later the same army Alexander led. The Macedonian army constantly had been a
national army. The state was, indeed, the army; its king declared absolutely by the soldiers in arms. By

The Political Culture Of Politics
The term politics itself has changed over many years. To ask if the evolution of political culture
changes how people participate in politics is simple. The answer is yes. To begin with, let s define
political culture; Authors define the term political culture as the particular distribution of patterns of
orientation towards political objects among the members of a nation (Almond and Verba 1963: 13
cited in Welzel and Inglehart, 2014 p.285). Now let s define culture; the term culture covers a broad
set of phenomena. It includes traditions, habits, and patterns of behaviour shaped by a society s
prevailing beliefs, norms and values (Nolan and Lenski, 1999 cited in Welzel and Inglehart, 2014
p.285). Taking this into account, examples of culture could be how to play hopscotch in a playground
or following the rules to a game of tennis or badminton. To address the question, this essay will firstly
assess how any capable individual is able to participate in politics and secondly if the growth of
political culture has increased or decreased participation.
A question that is frequently asked is how can one be involved in politics? There are many options.
One option can be by joining a political party which interests them and that has a good manifesto with
policies that they would like to see take place and therefore taking part in elections and voting. A
second option can be by being part of a pressure group for example, one that represents those against

Relationship Between Marcus Aurelius And Fronto
Juan Avila
Professor Anne Haeckl
Seminar 203
11 January 2017
Structured Reflection on Marcus Aurelius life Although Marcus Aurelius had many Second Sophistic
teachers during his youth, it can be noted that his relationship with Marcus Fronto was unique. From
an examination of the epistolary Marcus Aurelius in Love, the expression of appreciation, longing, and
concern between the erastes and the eromenos is evident and of great interest. In comparing the letters
exchanged between Marcus Aurelius and Fronto with Chapter One of Meditations, there is an
observable change in the manner that Marcus Aurelius articulates his thoughts and feelings for Fronto,
showing that his sentiments for his mentor have changed from great admiration to remorse. ... Show

He says, I am thankful...that I have preserved the flower of my youth, and that I did not make proof of
my virility before the proper season, but even deferred the time. The peculiarity of this line lies in the
fact that there was no proper season for having sexual intercourse in ancient Rome. Even so, Marcus
Aurelius shows that he was able to prevent himself from rushing into having intercourse with his wife.
Thus, in refraining from having a sexual relationship with his slaves and delaying his proof of virility,
Marcus Aurelius makes an indirect statement to Fronto that, unlike him, he is able to control himself

The Political Basis of the American Revolution Essay
The political basis of the American Revolution relied on three major congresses formed prior and
during the revolution. These congresses were the Stamp Act Congress, the First Continental Congress
and the Second Continental Congress. The main reason the colonists revolted against the British was
in response to the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act was a tax stamp which appeared on every newspaper,
legal document, on every customs and shipping document, and on other documents such as tavern
licenses and college diplomas. The tax largely affected the middle and lower classes. The act was
passed by Parliament on May 22, 1765, but was not going to go into effect until November 1st of that
year. This time period of six months gave ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The congress proposed that without consent by the colonists or their representatives in Parliament,
Britain could not impose taxes. Unfortunately, since the congress only met a few weeks before the act
was to be passed, the appeals would not be acted upon by Britain or its Parliament therefore making
the gathering useless. However, before the congress met, the colonists had already decided that the act
would not be followed even if they had to resort to violence. Beginning August 14, 1765, mobs in all
of the colonies began to relieve the stamp distributors of their position, hence by November 1st there
were no distributors to enforce the act. Between the time of the Stamp Act and the Declaration of
Independence, Britain passed many more taxes which became known as the Intolerable Acts. The
Intolerable Acts were directed to the American colonists and were mostly taxes on all imported goods
from Britain. Britain also began to send British troops over to help enforce the acts and taxes passed
by Parliament. By 1775, all the colonies were boycotting British goods and delegates from all over the
North American colonies began to form the First Continental Congress in 1774. On September 5,
1774, the First Continental Congress met in Philadelphia. Some of the delegates chosen to attend

Jenner s smallpox vaccine, he did not really know how it worked, and so he started experimenting,

multiple diseases that would sweep through areas and effect large numbers of the population. Pasteur

How To Establish A Public Hospital
Establishing a public hospital has many advantages such as tax exemption from income and property
taxes, but public oversight may be a hindrance seen as a disadvantage. Commissioner Green s idea of
hiring her nephew does not seem like a smart business idea especially if the council does not know his
healthcare administration or finance experience to run the operation and development of a new public
hospital. Even though there is a great deal of public oversight, an experienced hospital administrator,
who possesses both healthcare and finance knowledge, is needed to run a successful healthcare
facility. In the development of a for profit corporation, there are many considerations to account for
when planning this type of healthcare facility.

Is There a Correlation Between Primary Psychopathy, Secondary Psychopathy and Cognitive
Empathy?
Aisha Atherton

Tuesday, 5.10 7pm, EA404A
Abstract
The point of this investigation was to determine if there is a relationship between the two subtypes of
psychopathy and cognitive empathy. A correlation design was employed, in which Levenson, Kiehl
and Fitzpatrick s (1994) Levenson Self Report Psychopathy Scale and Baron Cohel, et al s (2002)
Reading the Mind in the Eyes tests were given to 452 Victoria University Psychology students.
Calculations were made, and resulted in the results to being a significant, negative correlation between
primary psychopathy and cognitive empathy, but no significant correlation between secondary
psychopathy and cognitive empathy. This concludes that not all psychopathy is correlated with
cognitive empathy, but there is a relationship.
Is There a Correlation Between Primary Psychopathy, Secondary Psychopathy and Cognitive
Empathy?
Many studies have been conducted to determine if there is a correlation between Cognitive Empathy
and the two subtypes of Psychopathy (e.g. Ali Chamorro Premuzic, 2010; Levenson, Kiehl,
Fitzpatrick, 1994; Baron Cohen, et al., 2002). Cognitive empathy is defined as the capability to
understand the emotions of another (Ali Chamorro Premuzic, 2010). Psychopathy is defined as an
individual who shows traits of

What Is The Difference Between Andy Fish And Rumble Fish
While Andy Jackson from Tears of a Tiger sand Rusty James from Rumble Fish both seem lonely,
they differ because Andy is pessimistic while Rusty James is dependent. In both books, the characters
lose people they feel close to. However, Andy proves himself to be independent multiple times
throughout the book. Rusty James relies on people helping him get out of trouble. Characterization
plays an important role in the reader s understanding of character development.
Readers of both Tears of a Tiger and Rumble Fish find both Rusty James and Andy Jackson lonely. In
the book Tears of a Tiger, it stated But I get to Robbie, I couldn t get to him. This demonstrates that
Andy Jackson couldn t save Robbie and he knew Robbie was gone. He lost his best friend that day
and feels horrible. Another example from the text is I believe that s what I m getting out of, ... Show

In the book, it states Motorcycle Boy stepped out, grabbed Biff s wrist and snapped it backward. This
shows that Rusty James is dependent because when he was in this fight, he wouldn t have been able to
get out of it alive if it wasn t for Motorcycle Boy. Another example from the book is, Somebody
pulled me up, and I was half sitting and half leaning against him. He ain t dead It was the Motorcycle
Boy This demonstrates that Rusty James is dependent because when he almost died, Motorcycle Boy
was the one who finished off the people go jumped steve and Rusty James. If he wasn t so dependent
on Motorcycle Boy than Steve wouldn t have had a best friend anymore. Furthermore, In the book, it
states The next thing I knew I was thrown up against the police car and frisked. This indicates that
Rusty James is dependent on Motorcycle Boy because if he didn t have to follow him just to stay safe
or to feel something then he wouldn t have lost his brother and he wouldn t have gone to jail.
Therefore Rusty James proved to be dependent many times throughout the

Optic Brain Formation
Visual processing for humans is split up into two different channels called the dorsal and ventral
streams (or pathways). Before information is sent to one stream or the other it must be sent through a
series of structures, which begins in the retina. When light enters the eye and hits the photoreceptors
(rods and cones) located in the retina, the retinal ganglion cells are activated. The retinal ganglion cells
are organized in the retina and then are sent to the optic nerve, which is located at the back of the eye.
The optic nerve transports the signals from the retinal ganglion cells to the lateral geniculate nucleus
(also abbreviated as the LGN). The thalamus is the structure that houses the lateral geniculate nucleus.
The primary function ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

When the primary visual cortex receives signals from the magnocellular layers in the LGN, it sends it
to the subsequent (right word?) visual cortical areas that make up the where pathway (dorsal stream).
This means that the signal is sent from the primary visual cortex to V2, from V2 to V3 then to V5, and
then lastly to the parietal lobe. WHAT DOES V5 DO (TALK ABOUT WHERE PATHWAY BLAH

When the parvocellular layers of the LGN send signals to the primary visual cortex, the ventral stream
(as known as the what pathway) is followed(REPHRASE). So after signals are sent to V1, they go to
V2. Once V2 has received the signal it is sent to V4.. WHAT DOES V4 DO. Lastly it is sent to the

  • 3. Nurse Shortage Plan The problem of nurse shortage is not new to healthcare. Moreover, it becomes burning in critical and intensive care units where the workload is high, and nurses observe an increased risk of burnout (Pastores Kvetan, 2015). Nurse shortage has a negative impact not only on nurses themselves. It also influences patients and can lead to negative patient outcomes due to less attention that a nurse gives to a patient (Ferrer et al., 2014). Therefore, there is a need for a strategic plan to address nurse shortage and thus contribute both to nurse retention and improved patient outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to present a strategic plan of an intervention aimed at reduction of nurse shortage in intensive and critical care units. Key Concepts ... At the same time, such weaknesses as the lack of trained nurse managers and poor planning of workload slow down the possible improvements. The organization is open to new opportunities. Thus, it supports the use of health IT such as electronic health record to make the work of nurses less loaded. Moreover, the organization is interested in continuous nurse education, which is beneficial both for nurse employees and the organization itself since it will get well trained professionals. Finally, the organization is ready to review scheduling policies to reduce nurse fatigue and burnout. Still, there are some threats that can prevent the project implementation. • 4. Challenges Of Air Freight Demand And Potential Solutions... Challenges in Air Freight Demand and Potential Solutions 1.Introduction Air freight market is not stable and might be weak because of uncertain international trade increase (Barnard,2015). There was fluctuation in air cargo demand over the last 10 years from 2006 to 2016 which indicates that cargo demand could be changed by some external and internal influences. Some figures were released about worldwide air freight market and presented that air cargo capacity increased 2.2%, comparing to 2014. While this was the 5% growth calculated by The International Air Transport Association (IATA), the growth of cargo volumes in 2015 was much slower than 2014(Barnard, 2015). However, some experts pointed out that global air freight market get a positive growth from 2011, and it is enjoying a relatively steady growth, due to the enhanced trade and economic recovery after the global financial crisis of 2008(Huang,2016). Because of sluggish world trade growth, air cargo suppliers face a lot of challenges including alternative transportation, perspective uncertainty and unexpected policy and here are some potential solutions: improving customers service, efficiency, security and reducing negative environmental impacts. This essay attempts to describe current air freight market conditions, challenges in air freight demand and generate potential solutions to increase air cargo demand. Causes of Bolshevik Success Using Voilence Essays How far do you agree that the Bolsheviks consolidated their hold on power in the years after the October/November revolution mainly through the use of violence against their opponents? The Bolsheviks consolidated their power after October 1917 however they faced many severe problems which made keeping their power complex. For Lenin and the Bolsheviks winning political power was relatively easy compared with retaining it. The Bolsheviks may have had a temporary majority in the All Russia soviet in October 1917, but they did not have a majority following in the country as a whole . Russia was in chaos, politically and economically, and normal government had broken down in large areas. . yet lenin was able to overcome these problems and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Workers Decrees outlined measures for minimum wage, limitations on workers hours, and the running of factories by elected workers committees. This consolidated Bolshevik support amongst the working classes in the cities, where they had taken power, because it gave the workers a sense of democracy. However Lenin also had solutions to these problems through a more violent approach, this was repression. The cpnstituent assembly which had been promised by the provisional government took place as planned on 12 november 1917 and the result was that the social revolutionaries became the largest party in Russia. This made lenin fear was that the constituent assembly would challenge the newly Bolshevik rule so when the assembly rejected by 237 to 137 votes to be subservient to the decrees, Lenin took violent action by having armed troops and red guards threaten the assembly at gun point to close down. BBCI Essay High Data Rate Wireless Communications for Brain Computer Interfaces Overview: To achieve full success in experiments on brain plasticity, bi directional brain computer interfaces (BBCIs) must deliver activity dependent stimulation for extended periods of time in unconstrained environments [1]. BBCIs are neuroprosthetics used for fundamental research in neurophysiology and neural rehabilitation. The ability to stimulate the brain in response to single neuron action potentials have allowed for high fidelity control of prosthetic limbs [2], [3], and such devices have been shown to restore communication lines lost by disease or injury [4]. BBCIs are currently limited by high power consumption and low data rates [5]: typical BBCI ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Backscatter communication operates by modulating and reflecting electromagnetic energy to a receiver; the system is small and ultra low power because it no longer needs the relatively large and power hungry local oscillator or power amplifier, although there is additional challenge of increased signal attenuation. This currently makes operation in a high multipath channels (such as animal cages and hospital rooms) challenging. Preliminary Results: Working with Prof. Reynolds and the Fetz Lab, I have collaborated with two graduate students to develop an initial backscatter system for the NeuroChip3. We have successfully integrated with the NC3 and demonstrated wireless backscatter communication at 5 Mbps with 16 channels at 5 kHz sampling rates and 20 Mbps with a wired link. Initial VNA tests of modified planar antennas in a mock animal cage have also shown achievable bandwidths up to 20 MHz, although there is currently a high variance. Research Objectives: My research will investigate the following questions to provide quantifiable improvements on backscatter communications for the Neurochip3 and other BBCIs: O1) Develop, test, and quantify performance of data coding methods to improve signal to noise ratio of backscatter communication systems in strong multipath and Doppler environments. Data coding has been shown to improve the performance of backscatter systems with a low signal to noise ratio (SNR) for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Guantanamo Bay Essay Under the Bush Administration, beginning with the election of President Bush in 2000 and running until early 2009, Guantanamo Bay was filled with suspected 9/11 terrorists from the Taliban and al Qaeda due to the relatively recent outbreak of the war on terror. Large steps were taken by the Bush Administration toward near guarantees of containing those responsible for the War, which can be summed up in a human rights article by Martin Flaherty, [...] the Bush Administration adopted what it asserted were three necessary and appropriate means that would serve as principal ways to pursue the Global War on Terror, (36). By including this vision of closing Guantanamo as a part of his presidential campaign, Obama gained great support from the public. Once elected, Obama acted on his promise to close Guantanamo on his second day as President, shown by Scott Horton in his article on Guantanamo, He (Obama) created an inter agency task force to advise him on the specifics of this process and to create future guidelines for the detention of terrorism suspects captured abroad, (1). The overall shift in opinion on Guantanamo in both citizens and high up leaders of the country, however, was a result of many factors occurring around the time of Obama s election. First, while Guantanamo processes and descriptions were long held from the public under war time confidentiality, more information leaked out as the war settled down, including a basic description of Camp X ray, which was, consisting of small cages with chain link sides, concrete floors and metal roofs, offering scant shelter from the elements, and with very basic sanitary facilities, (Living Conditions). Methods of torture also became more nationally known, reinforcing the shifting opinion against Guantanamo. Finally, one of the largest reasons for Obama s push to close Guantanamo was due to the lack of empirical evidence proving detainees guilty (Horton 12). Holding these ... (Price Groff 13) She would be remembered for the young age at which she inherited the throne, but also for the confidence expressed in learning to master the techniques of ruling justly. When Victoria became Queen, England was already a constitutional monarchy. Government policies (laws) were made by the lawmakers and Prime Minister of Parliament, who were elected by the people. Because of the Industrial Revolution, the British experienced rapid progression in technology. This change was enjoyed by some, while others felt threatened. The duchess of Kent secretly hoped George IV and William IV would die before Victoria s eighteenth birthday, because she would be pronounced regent, (a person who acts for a monarch) therefore giving Conroy a considerable amount of power also. (Price Groff 13) In 1830, the year Victoria was eleven, King George IV died, and William was crowned King. Victoria s nurse, Fraulein Lehzen, showed the princess a chart of the family lineage, making it clear to her that when her Uncle William died, she would inherit the throne. Governess Lehzen wrote of this episode and recorded Victoria s response to the information made known to her: I see I am nearer to the throne than I thought...I will be good! (14) Two years later, Sir Conroy and the duchess planned and prepared regular tours through England. The purpose of these annual excursions was to acquaint Victoria with her future subjects, and help her gain familiarity with the people. • 11. Application Of Cellulases On Juice Recovery Application of Cellulases on Juice Recovery Introduction Cellulose is the most abundant compound produced from stalks, leaves, and stems (Shankar, 2011). The use of enzymes in the food industry provides safer and higher quality products. Cellulases are enzymes which break down the sugar cellulose. Cellulase enzymes are produced by fungi, animals, plants, and bacteria. (Zhang 2013) The cellulase enzyme has been used for various industry applications such as the textile industry, paper industry, and juice industry. Cellulases link beta, 1,4 linkages in the cellulose chains (Zhang 2013). There are three types of cellulase enzymes: endoglucanases, exoglucanases, and beta glucosidases. Exoglucanases act on the reducing or non reducing ends of cellulose (Zhang, 2013). Endoglucanases cut the nonreducing ends of cellulose or the beta 1,4 bonds. Endoglucanases are also produced by bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals (Zhang,2013). Lastly, beta glucosidases are produced by archaea, bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals and are known for degrading cellobiose (Zhang, 2013). All three forms of cellulases are produced from animals, bacteria, and plants. The purpose of this paper will be to discuss mainly the cellulase enzyme and its effect on the juice industry in addition to other applications of cellulase, and how cellulase behaves in combination with other enzymes such as pectinase and xylanase. 1. Peck Discover Magazine 2009 Summary Each year since 2006, bees have gradually been disappearing from their hives or dying off. Bees have died off before in the past. This is called colony collapse disorder or CCD. In the past CCD was cause by mites or infections, but now this is caused because of the commercial agricultural farmers. Whatever the proximate cause, it increasingly appears that the bees are succumbing to a long ignored underlying condition inbreeding. Decades of agricultural and breeding practices meant to maximize pollinating efficiency have limited honeybees genetic diversity at a time when they need it the most. Addressing CCD may therefore require more than a simple fix. We need to have a diverse set of genetic raw material so we can find bees resistant to disease, says Steve Sheppard, an entomologist at Washington State University. Genetic diversity is an important part of the solution. The problem is hardly trivial. A third of the total human diet depends on plants pollinated by insects, predominantly honeybees. In North America honeybees pollinate more than 90 crops with an annual value totaling almost $15 billion. Indeed, that importance lies at the root of what went wrong. In trying to make bees more productive, apiarists have torn the insects from their natural habitats and the routines they mastered over millions of years. As a result, today s honeybees are sickly, enslaved, and mechanized. We simply invite musicians to play, we invite people to listen, and we invite people to create art. Again, this is attainable. However, there is one aspect of the DIY Project that may be unattainable: a alcohol/drug free venue. Unfortunately, some people enjoy sneaking such substances into venues. For this reason, we will publically exhibit our disdain for drugs and alcohol in the venue: it ruins the experience for too many people (speaking from prior knowledge). Also, there must be staff that watches for drug and alcohol usage. This, in the end, may only allow for substance usage to become lower than most venues. The answer is yes. To begin with, let s define political culture; Authors define the term political culture as the particular distribution of patterns of orientation towards political objects among the members of a nation (Almond and Verba 1963: 13 cited in Welzel and Inglehart, 2014 p.285). Now let s define culture; the term culture covers a broad set of phenomena. It includes traditions, habits, and patterns of behaviour shaped by a society s prevailing beliefs, norms and values (Nolan and Lenski, 1999 cited in Welzel and Inglehart, 2014 p.285). Taking this into account, examples of culture could be how to play hopscotch in a playground or following the rules to a game of tennis or badminton. To address the question, this essay will firstly assess how any capable individual is able to participate in politics and secondly if the growth of political culture has increased or decreased participation. A question that is frequently asked is how can one be involved in politics? There are many options.
