The Effects Of Pre Trial Release Programs
Pre Trial Release Programs lets individuals be released prior to trial with conditions. Some of these
conditions are that you have to pay cash, wear an ankle bracelet while being on house arrest, be
alcohol/drug tested, or even be watched/monitored. Pretrial release programs can be denied for capital
offenses. The law allows release on personal recognizance of an unsecured appearance bond.
Common conditions: commercial surety, cash deposit, property bond, other secured bonds,
supervision and additional requirements . (http://www.ncsl.org/research/civil and criminal
justice/pretrial release conditions.aspx) Electronic monitoring is authorized for any defendant eligible
for release. A minimum of 500 dollars bond is required for failure to appear while on pretrial release.
There are several different options that judicial officials have at the disposal when setting a defendants
pretrial release conditions five basic conditions that a judge or magistrate may set, NC statute lists
them in 15A 534(a). There is the first one which is the release on written promise to appear. This
option basically allows the defendant to be released without paying any type of bond, as long as he
promises to appear in court on his written court date. The second option is to release the defendant
upon his execution of an unsecured appearance bond. An unsecured bond is one that is backed only by
the integrity of the defendant. No assets or collateral is required to be posted on this type of bond. The

The Book Thief Movie Themes
The Book Thief, directed by Brian Percival, and The Boy in Striped Pyjamas, directed by Mark
Herman, are both films that share similar themes and are focused on the time of war during Hitler s
reign of power. In both films, the idea of innocence is portrayed and corrupted through the friendship
of child protagonists, influence of father figures, characterisation of children in war and the narrative
perspectives. Symbolism, motifs and themes in these two films are explored to emphasise how
innocence is portrayed and corrupted throughout the texts.
Through the friendship of child protagonists in both films, the audience is able to view and understand
how innocence is portrayed and corrupted. Bruno in The Boy in Striped Pyjamas, is the main ... Show

With a similar end of war scene in The Book Thief, after the bombings that occurred, Liesel lost the
boy she loved which is another way that the idea of innocence has been corrupted. Within this scene
the director uses a bird s eye view angle of the death of Rudy and mise en scene is also used in this
text, placing Liesel sitting with Rudy in the middle of the ruins of their street, leaving the audience to
feel heartbroken just as The Boy in Striped Pyjamas does with the death of both boys. Although, the
friendship between child protagonists in The Book Thief, Liesel and Rudy, starts as an innocent
friendship and remains that way through most of the film, their friendship is explored through playful
love whereas the friendship between Bruno and Shmuel is explored through boundaries and
restrictions to their freedom, being stuck on opposite sides of the fence. Another friendship that occurs
is the friendship between Liesel and a Jewish man named Max that her family is hiding under their
basement. In this friendship, Liesel herself symbolises innocence which enables Max to find the
strength to survive. The Boy in Striped Pyjamas, however, does not include another important
friendship to the main protagonist, it only focuses on the unlikely friendship between a Jew and a boy
with a commander for a father.
The influence of father figures in both

Theme Of Corruption In The Miller
Consistently dishonest to his customers, The Miller is a great example of this kind of corruption. The
main job of The Miller is to sell grain to families, thus providing them with food. The moral
expectation of this job seems high, as families who must pay for grain are of a lower class. As a result,
The Miller is most likely seen as a savior to many people of the lower class. Chaucer, at first, supports
this saying, His mighty mouth was like a furnace door. / A wrangler and buffoon, he had a store / Of
tavern stories, filthy in the main (Chaucer 575 577). In other words, The Miller seems to be an overall
well rounded, humorous guy. So much so, that no one has any reason to think that he might be
cheating them out of their money. Yet, in the very next line, Chaucer describes him in a much different
way: His was a master hand at stealing grain. / He felt it with his thumb and thus he knew / Its quality
and took three times his due ( The Miller 578 580). Obviously, The Miller is receiving more money
than he actually deserves because he places his thumb on the scale, making the grain weigh more.
Although no one is aware, The Miller constantly takes advantage of his clients by making them pay
more than their fair share. Although he does not appear corrupt to most, The Miller is dishonest and
cheats many people who are involved in his trade.
Chaucer also stretches this theme seen in The Miller into The Doctor s prologue. In general, Doctor s
are viewed a good, moral,

The Tasks And Traditions Of Interpretation Of The Quran
The Qur an is one of the most interpreted religious books in existence. The two articles, The Tasks and
Traditions of Interpretation and Western Scholarship and The Qur an , interpret the Qur an from two
distinct points of view. The first article, The Tasks and Traditions of Interpretation by Jane McAuliffe
introduces a famous commentator named Ali Ibn al Jawzī and explains his analysis on the different
Surās within the Qur an. McAuliffe also introduces other famous commentators and compares them to
Ibn al Jawzī s view. In the article Western Scholarship and the Qur an by Andrew Rippin, the author
presents interpretations of the Qur an by Europeans from the 20th century. This interpretation is

Asabi al nuzūl is the term for occasions or reasons for the revelations and Succinctly put, it captures
the historical and contextual investigations that various verses and suras of the Quran provoked ().
Some of the verses may have been revealed by Muhammad in response to a question he was asked,
but for many of the verses there is no specific reason for their revelations. In Q109 some grammatical
peculiarities can be observed and are questioned. One profound objection is the objective pronoun
used in the third verse of Q 109, what I worship . Should not, the grammarians asked, the correct
expression be You do not worship whom I worship? After all, God is a who , not a what (). This
question is answered by Al Tūsi by saying the what in this phrase is referring to an Idol. The next
question regarding the repetition in the verses is answered simply as repetition is used as a rhetorical
device to provide emphasis on a statement. This article provides a strong secular disposition and does
answer many common fundamental questions in understanding the verses of the Qur an. It provides a
better understanding of the setting when these verses were written and why they were written in such a
way. Since Islam is one of the oldest religions, with plenty of interpretations, it faces opposition when
analyzed from a 21st century mind. A weakness I find in this article is that it doesn t provide a basis
for what Islam or the Qur an represent. It just analyzes the

Ch. 1: Thinking Critically With Psychological Science Outline The Need for Psychological Science
Two phenomena hindsight bias and judgmental overconfidence illustrate why we can t rely solely on
intuition and common sense. The Limits of Intuition and Common Sense Our intuition can lead us
astray. Did We Know It All Along? Hindsight Bias Hindsight bias The tendency to believe, after
learning an outcome, that one would have foreseen it. (I knew it all along phenomenon) Common
sense describes what has happened more easily than it predicts what will happen. Our intuition may
tell us that familiarity breeds contempt, that dreams predict the future, and that emotional reaction

When we notice random coincidences, we may forget that they are random and instead see them as
correlated. We can easily deceive ourselves by seeing what is not there. Perceiving Order in Random
Events Random sequences often don t look random. Experimentation Exploring Cause and Effect
Experiment A research method in which an investigator manipulates one or more factors (independent
variables) to observe the effect on some behavior or mental process (dependent variable). By random
assignment of participants, the experimenter aims to control other relevant factors. * Manipulating the
factors of interest holding constant other factors. Manipulates a factor to determine its effect.
Evaluating Therapies Double blind Procedure An experimental procedure in which both the research
participants and he research staff are ignorant (blind) about whether the research participants have
received the treatment or a placebo. Commonly used in drug evaluation studies. Placebo effect
Experimental results caused by expectations alone; any effect on behavior caused by the
administration of an inert substance of condition, which is assumed to be an active agent.
Experimental Condition The condition of an experiment that exposes participants to the treatment, that
is, to one version of the independent variable. Control Condition The condition of an experiment that

Barbara Ehrenreich s The Real Truth About The Female
This article from The Real Truth about the Female by Barbara Ehrenreich targets many beliefs that
women were underestimated. The main theory suggested in this document is that, women had to
follow the traditional duties. Early theories are being questioned as a result to women proving many
things over the years that were often overlooked. Ehrenreich states in his article, it does strongly
suggest that in the Stone Age family, Dad the hunter was not the only provider. There is a great
amount of evidence that suggest the theory that women worked as hard as men. Adrienne Zihlman and
Nancy Tanner stated among surviving hunting peoples, most of the community s calories up to 70%

Bone Injury Paper
There are 206 bones in the human body. Broken and fractured bones are one of the most common
injuries, about 6 million people in the US will break a bone each year. And out of these 300,000
people will have a serious injury that will require different methods to heal. There are a variety ways
of bone tissue repairing but most of them are not long term and can cause other complications. There
are different stages for bone repair. The first step is the formation of hematoma at the break, then the
formation of a fibrocartilaginous callus, the third step is the formation of a bony callus, and finally
remodeling and addition of compact bone. In the early stages, a hematoma develops within the
fracture location during the first few hours and days. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Speed Humps Research Paper
There is a tendency for the public to refer to any permanent object placed in a roadway for the purpose
of slowing the speed of vehicles as a speed bump. However, what some people call speed bumps are
actually speed humps or speed cushions. Understanding the differences between these three types of
speed impediments can help you determine which will suit your needs the best.
Speed Bumps
Speed bumps are the most widely used method of reducing the speed of traffic. They are also the most
aggressive method, normally used to force traffic to keep speeds below 10 miles per hour. Speed
bumps are primarily found in parking lots, traffic lanes in apartment complexes and in residential
subdivisions, which are all locations in which the posted speed limit is usually less than 10 mph.
Because vehicles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most speed humps extend the entire width of the pavement when placed in a street. Although they
reduce speed, they allow for a continuous flow of traffic and are a less aggressive method of
controlling speed than speed bumps. Speed humps are often found near school crossings, playgrounds
and hospitals as well as some parking lots.
Speed Cushions
Speed cushions are often found on streets that are designated as emergency vehicle routes. They are
basically modified speed humps that have been divided so that vehicles with a wider wheel base such
as ambulances and fire trucks can straddle them and avoid delays in response time. Buses can also
straddle the speed cushions to avoid jarring the passengers.
Materials Used
Asphalt is the most common material used for speed bumps, speed humps and speed cushions on both
concrete and asphalt pavement. Asphalt is an economical, durable option that can be repainted and
resealed as often as needed to maintain visibility and aesthetics. Depending on the application, plastic
or rubber may also be used on concrete pavement.

The State Library Of New South Wales
The State Library of New South Wales recently received a collection of original drawings by
contemporary Australian political cartoonist David Rowe. This collection, comprising 5,553 drawings
in total, was donated by Rowe via the Cultural Gifts Program, a government initiative that provides
tax incentives for gifts of cultural significance. Before this donation can be acquired, it is to be
assessed by the Collection Management Committee to determine its suitability as a collection item.
The Committee will evaluate the collection based on its significance, as well as its relationship to the
Library s Collection Development Policy and other State Library of New South Wales collections.
Despite this responsibility resting with the Committee, since the commencement of my internship, the
Collection Strategy and Development Department was operating under the assumption that the
collection would indeed be acquired. Given Rowe s celebrity status, there was never any discussion of
declining his offer of donation.
David Rowe is one of, if not, the best Australian political cartoonist today. Born in the Netherlands in
1968, Rowe s family migrated to Canberra when he was age four. His passion for drawing began
shortly after, while he was attending St. Edmund s Private College in Griffith. After high school,

history and how relevant it is towards academic disciplines. This will be done by looking at, what
history is. The relevance, and implications of accounting history. How accounting history led to
writing research in a creative and informative way. By looking at pedagogy, policy and practice, and
also the main reasons why accounting history is relevant today. 1.What is history and historical
research? History, in the Oxford dictionary is defined as, the study of past events, especially in human
affairs. Historical research presents a essential opportunity for challenging and worthwhile study from
which we hope to increase our ability to make judgements on a vast, more informed basis (Zeff,

Relevance of accounting history today: Accounting history makes current issues more understandable.
This is because of the background knowledge known previously. Accounting history increases the
ability to make extensive and more informed judgments because of background knowledge. Current
researchers tend to make assumptions about the past, without really knowing what took place a few
decades ago. One of the main advantages of accounting history is that it could prevent errors and
misrepresentations. Accountants will become aware of what took place in the past and use that as an
advantage to improve the future. From the above it can be concluded that, when looking at what

Organizing Paper
One reason why so many organizations succeed and be able to sustain their long term goals is their
effective and efficient organizational ability. The organizing function of management involves the
allocation of the company resources. When the management of the organization allocates its resources
with strategic planning and execution in mind, the organization can successfully satisfy the
requirements of both internal and external stakeholders. On the other hand, when an organization fails

setbacks of the 787 and 747 model airplanes, the defense, space and security business increased its
revenue by $8.5 billion (6%). The global and support sector business operation brought in 19%
increased revenue. While the revenue of the financing sector in 2009 was down by 5% compared to
the 2008, the sector successfully generated pre tax earnings and returned the cash dividends to the

Titanium Cerium Ferrite ( Tcf ) Was Prepared By A Simple...
Abstract Titanium cerium ferrite (TCF) was prepared by a simple solvothermal method. The obtained
TCF was applied as magnetic adsorbent for the extraction of uranium ions from aqueous solutions.
The synthesized magnetic nanoadsorbent was characterized using FT IR, XRD, Raman, BET surface
area, VSM and TEM. Various parameters such as solution pH, initial concentration, sorbent dosage
and rate of adsorption were investigated using batch adsorption experiments. The optimum pH was
found to be 6.0 and the equilibrium was achieved in approximately 120 min. Kinetic studies indicated
that pseudo second order kinetic model best describes the adsorption behavior. The adsorption
isotherms were well fitted by Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the maximum adsorption capacity
was evaluated to be 555.555 mg/g at 55 ⁰C. The thermodynamic parameters calculated from the
adsorption data suggested that the adsorption of U (VI) onto TCF was a spontaneous and endothermic
nature of process. The highest values of uranium desorption was achieved using 0.1 M HNO3 as the
desorbing agent. The results indicate that TCF has potential as an adsorbent for sorption U (VI), using
a simple, fast separation method for removal of uranium ions from aqueous solution.

Hellhound Research Paper
The hellhound folklore has been around for a long time, there are different myths and they even put it
in movies and tv shows. Its a canine like beast of the underworld and bring fear to humans. There are
different descriptions on it, but the one description that most people claim to see, is its It has black fur,
glowing red eyes, super strength, and is very ghostly. The different myths of the hellhound go from a
Yorkshire dog with huge teeth and claws to a big huge black dog with glowing eyes. Despite people
claiming to have caught or seen a hellhound, they all turn out the same, its just a myth In Greek
Mythology, there is a well known hellhound, named Cerberus. It is said that Cerberus is a three
headed dog that protects Hades. The hellhound is symbolic, people think its heads have a meaning.

Level 2 Trauma Center Communication Paper
In my position at a Level II Trauma Center as a Transfer Center Coordinator, communication has been
a key theme over the last year in particular. As I have previously mentioned, the Transfer Center and
our office cohort has a new Director and the growing pains have been great. Before our new Director,
gossip was rampant. With the new director, the group is learning a lot about communication, the value
of downward and upward communication and the form that communication is received. The most
recent source of growing pains was from the change of the type of staff for the mid shift; staff was
changing from non licensed staff to registered nurses. The Director announced the changes to the

Unfortunately, my office setting does not vary from those classic lyrics. The text calls the grapevine
informal, yet important source of information (Robbins Judge, 2009). There are two misconceptions I
had about the grapevine idea: essentially 75% of information received by the grapevine is true
information (Robbins Judge, 2009) and gossip is rarely the source of rumors (Robbins Judge, 2009).
The interesting part of the grapevine that is particularly applicable to the situation I described is that
rumors emerge as a response to situations that are important to us, when there is ambiguity, and under
conditions that around anxiety, (Robbins Judge, 2009). The mid shift change of staff announcement
was particularly ill timed because the project was not approved, nor were dates set for the approval;
the pilot project announcement was ambiguous. This set a motion for anxiety. The common theme
with my co workers was rumors around who was keeping his/her job and who was being let go, with
many people speculating who was being fired. This rumor was damaging not only to my co workers
who were considered the outgroup (Robbins Judge, 2009), but also to respect for the

Peer Review Strengths And Weaknesses
Peer review is more than just reading someone s paper and tell them if it s good or bad. It s about
explaining them what their weaknesses and strengths are. It can also help you as a writer by giving
you ideas of how to put stuff together in your essay. Personally, I believe that I was really engaged
when it came to peer reviewing. I truly appreciated the criticism and honesty of my peers and I hope
that they feel the same way about me. I tried to explain to them what was wrong with each page step
by step and what are some of their weaknesses and strengths.
Reviewing papers can be really hard for multiple reasons. The major one is because I don t like telling
others that they re doing something wrong, or because sometimes I just don t agree with their point of
view, an example of this is the RPP of my peer Jeffrey. Jeffrey believes that legalizing marijuana
would be beneficial to communities and even though I disagree with him I still manage to give him a
good review and gave him some sources that may help his claim. Although, I find it hard to review
someone s paper sometimes, it is way easier ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that they would not be specific enough, they would just write something to get a grade, or
they would simply turn their peer review late. There is no much I can do when this happens because I
understand that most of us have pretty busy lives so they don t really have time to review other people
s paper. So what I do is wait for professor s King review and make corrections based on his opinion,
or ask one of my friends who like to read and write to review for me. Something that I would like to
say about my experience with peer reviewing in 1302 is that I never felt insulted by no one which was
great. I believe that if I were to get insulted in a peer review I would have to take it as a different type
of review since everyone has a different way to express

Gender And Social Aspects Of The Sexual Revolution In The...
Industrial revolution was the change to new manufacturing process that took place in the 18th to the
19th century. The process involved the change from the use of hands in production to the use of
machines. The examples included the engineering of chemicals and iron productions, use of steam
power and the plant machine method. Due to the developments in the way of production in the
industries, employment especially the textile industry featured both male and female genders
improving the overall living standards of people. Sexual revolution can also be described as sexual
liberation because it was seen as freedom from the traditional codes of behavior to interpersonal
relationships and sexuality (Gill 103). As a result of this there was witnessed several changes in the
general perceptions and traditions held, especially on gender and social stereotypes, which resulted to
sexual liberation. This paper is going to look into industrial revolution and find out the extent to which
it constituted to sexual revolution and the everyday social and family life for both men, women and
the children.
Industrialization took place earlier in the western countries than the other parts of the world. Through
the introduction of machines that made work easier in the industries, employment was no longer a
man s thing and women found an opportunity to work (Carlin 318). The revolution created a shortage
in labor and textile factories absorbed young single ladies from the rural areas. The

Needless Animal Experimentation is Wrong
If penicillin had been tested on guinea pigs, it might never have reached the public. It is lethal to
guinea pigs, deactivates the blood system of rabbits and is deadly to cats ( Bio Medical Research ).
Scientists are pushing for more experiments regardless of the cost to the animal s life. One expense is
the involvement of killing animals in the pursuit of a pine scented air freshener (Vergoth,p21).
Animals suffering in experimentation labs are in just and cruel to animals. It is wrong to harm an
innocent animal of any wrong doing, when the animal doesn t know right from wrong. It is argued that
people have an obligation to animals, so that we can protect their welfare.

More than five billion dollars of federal tax revenue are spent annually on animal research ( Bio
Medical Research ). With that money there could be drug rehabilitation programs, nutrition counseling
for the disadvantaged, or even improving water and air quality; but instead animals get experimented
on. Animals, like the rest of nature, were understood not have any sort of value, except to bring
enjoyment to lives. Animal life has some value (Frey, p27).
Scientists test products on animals to see if they are safe, or if any side effects may occur. Many
different companies use tests on animals, such as: the Draize Test and the LD 50, or Lethal Dose 50

The Draize Test is used to measure the harmfulness of chemicals found in household products and
cosmetics, by observing the damage they cause to the eyes and skin of animals ( Product Testing ).
Albino rabbits are used for the eye irritancy of a solution. The rabbits suffer extreme pain, mutilation

irreparable and leave the eyes ulcerated and bleeding. At the end of the test, the animals are killed to

What Is All Summer In A Day Essay
The short story All Summer In a Day by Ray Bradbury illustrates that someone who acts upon their
jealousy can end up with a feeling of great regret. The other kids were jealous of Margot for almost
everything she had and they hated her for it. She was different from the other kids in a way that she
had something the other kids didn t. She remembered the sun. The other kids resolved their jealousy
by doing some terrible things. Jealousy can cause people to do things they wouldn t if they were
thinking correctly. Jealousy can cause much regret. In the story, all the kids were jealous of Margot.
They wanted to remember the sun but they couldn t. The only one who could was Margot and they
couldn t get over that. Also, they were jealous that Margot gets to go back to Earth and see the sun
everyday. They want what she has. When all of their jealousy built up, they couldn t contain it. To get
back at Margot, her classmates decided to do something that will never be forgotten. In the story, the
author explains that all the kids attacked Margot and forcefully pushed her into the closet against her

Motivate, Delegate and Empower

Review own ability to motivate, delegate and empower others
For any business to be successful it needs motivated employees. They are the single most important
factor in the long term success of an organisation.
Empowerment refers to the employee s feeling of being effective, in control and influential.
Furthermore, empowerment positively impacts motivation, and motivation leads to better
performance.
Maslow s hierarchy of needs provides a foundational theory. It states that all employees have some
basic needs that must first be satisfied in order to provide the framework for further motivation and
empowerment.
There are five levels in the hierarchy: * Physiological needs * Safety and security needs * Love or ...

Herzberg showed that to truly motivate an employee a business needs to create conditions that make
him or her feel fulfilled in the workplace.
Delegation is one of the most important management skills as it empowers the team member to make
decisions. However, the person who delegated the work remains accountable for the outcome of the
delegated work.
Delegation can save money and time, help in building skills, and motivate people. Poor delegation, on
the other hand, might cause frustration and confusion to all the involved parties.
Tannenbaum amp; Schmidt defined 7 levels of delegated freedom which moves from manager
oriented to subordinate oriented. As the team develops, the area of freedom for the subordinate
increases and the need for the manager s intervention decreases.
Within my team I have tried to improve motivation through several initiatives:
One member of my team seemed to be becoming disillusioned with her role and so I spent some time
with her trying to establish the root cause of this.
Having asked several questions I established that she felt bored with her daily routine and wanted a
fresh challenge.
I took notes of our meeting and produced a plan with her which involved a gradual phasing in of more
duties and a greater involvement in decision

Impact Of Globalization In Nigeria
The term globalization gets mixed in conversation without even slipping our brains what it is. But
what is it? Globalization is the thought of corporations transferring employment overseas to those who
will work for less. However, globalization can be expressed even wider, which incorporates numerous
influences. With that being said, the most fitting meaning would be that globalization is the collapse of
barriers among countries permitting labor, goods, and services to be freely exchanged. Consequently,
one feature that appears to be debatable is the how globalization has moved the prosperity of others.
For instance, subcontracting has led to a massive majority of employment for people in
underdeveloped countries giving the ability to gradually creep out of poverty. But yet there are still
additional countries that observe their poverty rate rise steeply. We will take a provocative look at
globalization, where it improves a country such as Nigeria s economy. We will talk about how things
like Nigeria s use of Credit, reliance on foreign technologies, lack of raw materials, production of
substandard goods, government policies and education comes into effect on their actual rapid growth
in the economic aspect.
The organization of the Nigerian economy is a characteristic of an underdeveloped country. Over half
of the gross domestic product (GDP) is accounted for by the primary sector with agriculture remaining
to play a significant part. The oil and gas sector, in particular,

The Weaknesses Of The Constitution
here were many ways that the Constitution helped to change the weaknesses of the United States. It
helps by making the laws easier to pass and more fair, along with different documents. The Articles of
Confederation were obviously a flawed document if they needed to be changed into the Constitution,
thus the Constitution is helping. The first way that the Constitution helped with the weaknesses of the
United States were the different ways it made passing laws more fair. When amending a document the
Articles of Confederation needed 13 out of 13 people to approve of the document. The Constitution
provided a more reasonable way by having ⅔ of both houses and ¾ of the state legislature. This is a
better method because not 100% of people are going to agree on everything. The same type of thing
worked when passing laws. 9/13 people needed to approve in the Articles of Confederation while it s
now 50% +1 of both houses plus the signature of the President. This allows for things to be more fair
and it makes sure everyone in power somewhat agrees on what is going on and not just a couple of
people are deciding on what the citizens new laws will be. The Constitution is a document that may
make people feel equal and not like they re below some one else. One example of this is when
Frederick Douglass stated that if you, abolish slavery tomorrow, and not a single sentence or syllable
of the Constitution need to be altered. This is saying that the Constitution is a good document

Social norms are what the world or society view as acceptable ways to act. A social norm that I tend to

Reflective Essay On Mental Illness
Faced with the overwhelming stigma that surrounds mental illness, we have spent the semester
learning how to break down doorways into the lives of characters who have struggled with their
mental health. Far too often have these doors been kept bolted shut. As a consequence of public fear
and lack of understanding, the people behind these doors individuals with mental illnesses have been
given no choice but to struggle in silence. In reading various works throughout the semester, we have
been able to begin to challenge the stigma that surrounds mental illness. Trying to gain understanding,
we have not only opened doorways, but we have begun to construct empathic tunnels between our
own lives and the unfamiliar universes of characters with mental illness.
Reading the novels throughout this class sometimes made me uncomfortable, usually hurt my heart,
and always made me ask questions and I think that s the whole point. The novels we read gave voices
to people who felt like they did not have a voice, because they had been silenced for so long.
Refracted through various time periods and genres, the novels we read provided insight into the
progression of mental illness throughout decades, namely into how mental illness is regarded by the
public. Maybe we don t treat people exactly like how the unnamed narrator in The Yellow Wallpaper
was treated anymore, and maybe we have a better understanding of mental illness now than we did
during Edna St. Vincent Millay s time,

The Rise of Big Business
The Rise of Big Business
The decades after the Civil War rapidly changed the face of the United States. The rapid
industrialization of the nation changed us from generally agrarian to the top industrial power in the
world. Business tycoons thrived during this time, forging great business empires with the use of trusts
and pools. Farmers moved to the cities and into the factories, living off wages and changing the face
of the workforce. This rapid industrialization created wide gaps in society, and the government, which
had originally taken a hands off approach to business, was forced to step in.

The federal government also aided in the development of a transcontinental railroad by offering
compensation and land for each mile that Railroad companies built. Because of this, the United States
was quickly brought together from east to west by the railroad. Time zones were implemented because
the railroads needed a standard time to go by, a prime example of the power of change that industry
possessed. Steel sprung up as a major industry in the late 19th century as well. Carnegie started his
steel factories in Pittsburgh, opening many new jobs and aiding in the trend of urbanization. The steel
industry flourished and in 1901 the United States Steel Corporation was worth over $1.4 billion, the
country s first billion dollar corporation. The oil industry also grew exponentially as America
expanded. John D. Rockefeller created the Standard Oil Company, monopolizing the competition on
the way to becoming the richest man in history. The demand for oil products was bolstered
tremendously by the invention of the automobile and the gas powered engine gave the oil business a

The Heating Phases That Occurred During The Experiment Essay
1. Figure 1 shows the heating phases that occurred during the experiment. There is an exponential
decrease in temperature as the depth of the water increases. Water has a high specific heat capacity
which means that it can resist changes in temperature. This is coupled with the fact that solar radiation
progressively loses its penetrative ability as the depth of the water increases. The light attenuation in
lakes describes the decrease in actual light that can penetrate a water column as well as the fact that
most of the energy that the light has is absorbed by the surface of the water.
2. The end of step 4 during the experiment creates the tripartite thermal structure within the lake
substitute. This is composed of three parts called the epilimnion, the thermocline and the hypolimnion.
The epilimnion represents the surface of the lake which experiences the most heat during the summer
and has the highest temperature compared to the other parts of the thermal structure. The thermocline
is the section of water that has the large exponential decrease in temperature. This is shown in figure 1
at the end of the heating phase, the temperature decreases by a large amount as the depth increases
from 1cm to 9cm. Finally there is the hypolimnion which is shown in figure 1 in all phases as the cold
part of the water column. This is the most unaffected part, as the solar radiation does not effectively
penetrate that deep into the water hence the temperature stays almost constant. The

Comparing Duchess Of Malfi And Midsummer Night s Dream
In the plays, The Duchess of Malfi by John Webster and Midsummer Night s Dream by William

The Duchess and Cariola, from The Duchess of Malfi, can be compared to Hermia and Helena, from a
Midsummer Night s Dream, respectively as they serve as foils, even though they appear in different
plays. The reaction they have towards authority creates this comparison as they act similarly to each
other when it turns against them. The Duchess and Hermia, both devious and defiant, attempts to

Genesis 25 Thesis
Genesis 25 is primarily written in prose, but God s words to Rebekah about her pregnancy emphasize
the importance of what he is saying to her and the fate of her sons. The poem reads, Two nations are in
your womb, and two peoples born of you shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the
elder shall serve the younger (Gen. 25:23). God has foretold that the two brothers will have numerous
descendants that are able to form two nations, but he doesn t explain why they will be in conflict. As is
common in the Bible the youngest son achieves superiority over his elder brother. There is an odd
choice of words in this poem though. By saying that Esau will serve Jacob it implies that he will
forever be in his shadow, however they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rereading it though he does have a point to be this way, Jacob received the best blessing from his
father and when begged to also get a blessing Isaac gave Esau a rather harsh and pitiful one. What was
said in Jacob s blessing was the complete opposite for Esau. The word serve is also mentioned in this
poem, Isaac is telling Esau you shall serve your brother (Gen. 27:40), but there is no further evidence
that ever supports this claim that he does serve Jacob, unless both God and Isaac were not literally
talking about the brothers but the two nations they establish. Verse 40 also supports this idea with
Isaac s phrasing of, and you shall serve your brother; but when you break loose, you shall break his
yoke from your neck. (Gen. 27:40), in Genesis 33 Esau and Jacob meet again after several years and
Esau forgives his brother for all that he has done to

Sun Also Rises
The title of a novel can be one of the most powerful aspects of a book. For instance, when a reader
reads the title The Sun Also Rises, written by Ernest Hemingway, the reader is able to understand that
the title of the novel is connected directly to the message that the author is attempting to convey. The
title later brings forth much more significance towards the very end of the novel when the reader
pauses and contemplates Hemingway s motives. The title The Sun Also Rises has the ability to
stimulate deep thought within a reader, thus forcing the reader to grasp a higher level of thinking in
order to understand the true meaning of the book.
In The Sun Also Rises, the title does not hint at a possible plot that will unfurl, but more so ... Show

Though he is caught in this cycle, Jake finds ways to break away from this fantasy that he wishes to
have with Brett by travelling with close friends, drinking, and fishing.
Lady Brett Ashley carries herself with such elegance, allowing the reader to distinguish her character
from others. Hemingway designed Lady Brett Ashley to bear the utmost confidence and delicacy
when compared to other characters such as Robert Cohn or Jake Barnes who show their emotion
through their actions. Lady Brett Ashley spoke regretfully towards the end of the novel, I didn t know
whether I could make him go, and I didn t have a soul to go away and leave him. He tried to give me a
lot of money, you know (246). The alluring Brett is by far the most fascinating being that Hemingway
had thought up. She appears to be carefree, vibrant, warm, and independent. The way that Hemingway
chose to conceal Brett s constant agony intrigues the reader. Brett is an intelligent individual and is
gifted with natural charm, yet is never able to designate a single lover to spend her life with. She is
constantly looking for attention from the wrong audience. This subconscious craving for love leads
Brett to heartbreak, happening several times over the course of the story. Lady Brett Ashley s personal
story, along with Robert Cohn and Jake Barnes stories, represents the overall theme that Hemingway
conveys: unfortunate things will happen to excellent people for no reason, but it is not

Transculturation in Our Sister Killyjoy and Nervous Conditions
Postcolonial insights include theories of Diaspora, cultural hybridity and transculturation. The latter,
transculturation is the term used to define cultural change induced by introduction of elements of a
foreign culture. [1] The term transculturation was first coined by
Cuban anthropologist and sociologist Fernando Ortiz in 1947 to describe the phenomenon of merging
and converging cultures.
Transculturation covers war, ethnic conflict, racism and multiculturalism, hence it is a concept very
relevant to the postcolonial period and subsequently to postcolonial literature. When transculturation
affects ethnicity the term ethnoconvergence comes into being and ... Show more content on

The title Nervous Conditions comes from Jean Paul Satre s introduction to Franz Fanon s book about
the psychosocial effects of colonization The Wretched of the Earth where he says that the condition of
the native is a nervous condition.[2] Dangarembga clearly means to foreground gender as the category
which determines
African women s lives and keeps them natives in relation to the dominant and controlling power
structure. Nervous conditions could also be interpreted as a metaphor for those internalized definitions
of femaleness that shape, from within women s private and public lives. [3] The African women in the
novel face racism, sexism and oppression in their community while navigating their lives within the
margins of both traditional and Western colonial cultures. Tambu s early self admired her educated
aunt, pitied her mother who suffered from being female and poor and uneducated and black. [4] As
Dangarembga s plot shifts from Tambu s individual rise to collective effort with all her female
relatives and friends, she acknowledges If 1 forget them, my cousin, my mother, my friends, 1 might
as well forget myself. [5] In recording these women s resistance to the patriarchy, Dangarembga
suggests that the strongest, most resilient females are not the women educated and liberated in the
West and privileged within their

Mysterious Roses is the responsibility project chosen by me. As the Director of Sales, I am expected

within the organization. In the project, I will be required to make several ethical decisions through a

The relevant issue as it relates to organization while making personal decision that may affect business
in addition to individuals. The decision can impact the company the most because any negative
finding can result from anything from a lawsuit to negative press that puts a label or stain on the
company. Have these issues addressed soon as possible, this shows not only the share holders but the
affected individual that the company has a genuine concern for all its employees. The best course of
action as it relates to the falsifying of documentation would be to initiate a formal investigation
explaining to parties involved your concerns and what the desired outcome would be. In addition,
address concerns with managers and employees that address the problem of possible misconduct. This
alone makes the ethical decision process a challenge of always doing what is morally and ethically
right. The relationship between ethical and legal issues all starts with (Avoiding the Orange Jumpsuit),

  • 2. The Effects Of Pre Trial Release Programs Pre Trial Release Programs lets individuals be released prior to trial with conditions. Some of these conditions are that you have to pay cash, wear an ankle bracelet while being on house arrest, be alcohol/drug tested, or even be watched/monitored. Pretrial release programs can be denied for capital offenses. The law allows release on personal recognizance of an unsecured appearance bond. Common conditions: commercial surety, cash deposit, property bond, other secured bonds, supervision and additional requirements . (http://www.ncsl.org/research/civil and criminal justice/pretrial release conditions.aspx) Electronic monitoring is authorized for any defendant eligible for release. A minimum of 500 dollars bond is required for failure to appear while on pretrial release. There are several different options that judicial officials have at the disposal when setting a defendants pretrial release conditions five basic conditions that a judge or magistrate may set, NC statute lists them in 15A 534(a). There is the first one which is the release on written promise to appear. This option basically allows the defendant to be released without paying any type of bond, as long as he promises to appear in court on his written court date. The second option is to release the defendant upon his execution of an unsecured appearance bond. An unsecured bond is one that is backed only by the integrity of the defendant. No assets or collateral is required to be posted on this type of bond. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Book Thief Movie Themes The Book Thief, directed by Brian Percival, and The Boy in Striped Pyjamas, directed by Mark Herman, are both films that share similar themes and are focused on the time of war during Hitler s reign of power. In both films, the idea of innocence is portrayed and corrupted through the friendship of child protagonists, influence of father figures, characterisation of children in war and the narrative perspectives. Symbolism, motifs and themes in these two films are explored to emphasise how innocence is portrayed and corrupted throughout the texts. Through the friendship of child protagonists in both films, the audience is able to view and understand how innocence is portrayed and corrupted. Bruno in The Boy in Striped Pyjamas, is the main ... With a similar end of war scene in The Book Thief, after the bombings that occurred, Liesel lost the boy she loved which is another way that the idea of innocence has been corrupted. Within this scene the director uses a bird s eye view angle of the death of Rudy and mise en scene is also used in this text, placing Liesel sitting with Rudy in the middle of the ruins of their street, leaving the audience to feel heartbroken just as The Boy in Striped Pyjamas does with the death of both boys. Although, the friendship between child protagonists in The Book Thief, Liesel and Rudy, starts as an innocent friendship and remains that way through most of the film, their friendship is explored through playful love whereas the friendship between Bruno and Shmuel is explored through boundaries and restrictions to their freedom, being stuck on opposite sides of the fence. Another friendship that occurs is the friendship between Liesel and a Jewish man named Max that her family is hiding under their basement. In this friendship, Liesel herself symbolises innocence which enables Max to find the strength to survive. The Boy in Striped Pyjamas, however, does not include another important friendship to the main protagonist, it only focuses on the unlikely friendship between a Jew and a boy with a commander for a father. • 4. Theme Of Corruption In The Miller Consistently dishonest to his customers, The Miller is a great example of this kind of corruption. The main job of The Miller is to sell grain to families, thus providing them with food. The moral expectation of this job seems high, as families who must pay for grain are of a lower class. As a result, The Miller is most likely seen as a savior to many people of the lower class. Chaucer, at first, supports this saying, His mighty mouth was like a furnace door. / A wrangler and buffoon, he had a store / Of tavern stories, filthy in the main (Chaucer 575 577). In other words, The Miller seems to be an overall well rounded, humorous guy. So much so, that no one has any reason to think that he might be cheating them out of their money. Yet, in the very next line, Chaucer describes him in a much different way: His was a master hand at stealing grain. / He felt it with his thumb and thus he knew / Its quality and took three times his due ( The Miller 578 580). Obviously, The Miller is receiving more money than he actually deserves because he places his thumb on the scale, making the grain weigh more. Although no one is aware, The Miller constantly takes advantage of his clients by making them pay more than their fair share. Although he does not appear corrupt to most, The Miller is dishonest and cheats many people who are involved in his trade. Asabi al nuzūl is the term for occasions or reasons for the revelations and Succinctly put, it captures the historical and contextual investigations that various verses and suras of the Quran provoked (). Some of the verses may have been revealed by Muhammad in response to a question he was asked, but for many of the verses there is no specific reason for their revelations. In Q109 some grammatical peculiarities can be observed and are questioned. One profound objection is the objective pronoun used in the third verse of Q 109, what I worship . Should not, the grammarians asked, the correct expression be You do not worship whom I worship? After all, God is a who , not a what (). This question is answered by Al Tūsi by saying the what in this phrase is referring to an Idol. The next question regarding the repetition in the verses is answered simply as repetition is used as a rhetorical device to provide emphasis on a statement. This article provides a strong secular disposition and does answer many common fundamental questions in understanding the verses of the Qur an. It provides a better understanding of the setting when these verses were written and why they were written in such a way. Since Islam is one of the oldest religions, with plenty of interpretations, it faces opposition when analyzed from a 21st century mind. However, what some people call speed bumps are actually speed humps or speed cushions. Speed Bumps Speed bumps are the most widely used method of reducing the speed of traffic. They are also the most aggressive method, normally used to force traffic to keep speeds below 10 miles per hour. • 18. Titanium Cerium Ferrite ( Tcf ) Was Prepared By A Simple... Abstract Titanium cerium ferrite (TCF) was prepared by a simple solvothermal method. The obtained TCF was applied as magnetic adsorbent for the extraction of uranium ions from aqueous solutions. The synthesized magnetic nanoadsorbent was characterized using FT IR, XRD, Raman, BET surface area, VSM and TEM. Various parameters such as solution pH, initial concentration, sorbent dosage and rate of adsorption were investigated using batch adsorption experiments. The optimum pH was found to be 6.0 and the equilibrium was achieved in approximately 120 min. Kinetic studies indicated that pseudo second order kinetic model best describes the adsorption behavior. The adsorption isotherms were well fitted by Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the maximum adsorption capacity was evaluated to be 555.555 mg/g at 55 ⁰C. The thermodynamic parameters calculated from the adsorption data suggested that the adsorption of U (VI) onto TCF was a spontaneous and endothermic nature of process. The highest values of uranium desorption was achieved using 0.1 M HNO3 as the desorbing agent. The results indicate that TCF has potential as an adsorbent for sorption U (VI), using a simple, fast separation method for removal of uranium ions from aqueous solution. 1. It s about explaining them what their weaknesses and strengths are. It can also help you as a writer by giving you ideas of how to put stuff together in your essay. • 27. Gender And Social Aspects Of The Sexual Revolution In The... Industrial revolution was the change to new manufacturing process that took place in the 18th to the 19th century. The process involved the change from the use of hands in production to the use of machines. The examples included the engineering of chemicals and iron productions, use of steam power and the plant machine method. Due to the developments in the way of production in the industries, employment especially the textile industry featured both male and female genders improving the overall living standards of people. Sexual revolution can also be described as sexual liberation because it was seen as freedom from the traditional codes of behavior to interpersonal relationships and sexuality (Gill 103). As a result of this there was witnessed several changes in the general perceptions and traditions held, especially on gender and social stereotypes, which resulted to sexual liberation. This paper is going to look into industrial revolution and find out the extent to which it constituted to sexual revolution and the everyday social and family life for both men, women and the children. Industrialization took place earlier in the western countries than the other parts of the world. Furthermore, empowerment positively impacts motivation, and motivation leads to better performance. Maslow s hierarchy of needs provides a foundational theory. Poor delegation, on the other hand, might cause frustration and confusion to all the involved parties. As the team develops, the area of freedom for the subordinate increases and the need for the manager s intervention decreases. • 32. Impact Of Globalization In Nigeria The term globalization gets mixed in conversation without even slipping our brains what it is. But what is it? Globalization is the thought of corporations transferring employment overseas to those who will work for less. However, globalization can be expressed even wider, which incorporates numerous influences. With that being said, the most fitting meaning would be that globalization is the collapse of barriers among countries permitting labor, goods, and services to be freely exchanged. Consequently, one feature that appears to be debatable is the how globalization has moved the prosperity of others. For instance, subcontracting has led to a massive majority of employment for people in underdeveloped countries giving the ability to gradually creep out of poverty. But yet there are still additional countries that observe their poverty rate rise steeply. We will take a provocative look at globalization, where it improves a country such as Nigeria s economy. We will talk about how things like Nigeria s use of Credit, reliance on foreign technologies, lack of raw materials, production of substandard goods, government policies and education comes into effect on their actual rapid growth in the economic aspect. The organization of the Nigerian economy is a characteristic of an underdeveloped country. It helps by making the laws easier to pass and more fair, along with different documents. The Articles of Confederation were obviously a flawed document if they needed to be changed into the Constitution, thus the Constitution is helping. The first way that the Constitution helped with the weaknesses of the United States were the different ways it made passing laws more fair. When amending a document the Articles of Confederation needed 13 out of 13 people to approve of the document. The Constitution provided a more reasonable way by having ⅔ of both houses and ¾ of the state legislature. This is a better method because not 100% of people are going to agree on everything. The same type of thing worked when passing laws. 9/13 people needed to approve in the Articles of Confederation while it s now 50% +1 of both houses plus the signature of the President. This allows for things to be more fair and it makes sure everyone in power somewhat agrees on what is going on and not just a couple of people are deciding on what the citizens new laws will be. The Constitution is a document that may make people feel equal and not like they re below some one else. Far too often have these doors been kept bolted shut. As a consequence of public fear and lack of understanding, the people behind these doors individuals with mental illnesses have been given no choice but to struggle in silence. In reading various works throughout the semester, we have been able to begin to challenge the stigma that surrounds mental illness. Trying to gain understanding, we have not only opened doorways, but we have begun to construct empathic tunnels between our own lives and the unfamiliar universes of characters with mental illness. Reading the novels throughout this class sometimes made me uncomfortable, usually hurt my heart, and always made me ask questions and I think that s the whole point. The novels we read gave voices to people who felt like they did not have a voice, because they had been silenced for so long. Refracted through various time periods and genres, the novels we read provided insight into the progression of mental illness throughout decades, namely into how mental illness is regarded by the public. • 41. The Heating Phases That Occurred During The Experiment Essay 1. Figure 1 shows the heating phases that occurred during the experiment. There is an exponential decrease in temperature as the depth of the water increases. Water has a high specific heat capacity which means that it can resist changes in temperature. This is coupled with the fact that solar radiation progressively loses its penetrative ability as the depth of the water increases. The light attenuation in lakes describes the decrease in actual light that can penetrate a water column as well as the fact that most of the energy that the light has is absorbed by the surface of the water. 2. The end of step 4 during the experiment creates the tripartite thermal structure within the lake substitute. This is composed of three parts called the epilimnion, the thermocline and the hypolimnion. The epilimnion represents the surface of the lake which experiences the most heat during the summer and has the highest temperature compared to the other parts of the thermal structure. The thermocline is the section of water that has the large exponential decrease in temperature. This is shown in figure 1 at the end of the heating phase, the temperature decreases by a large amount as the depth increases from 1cm to 9cm. Finally there is the hypolimnion which is shown in figure 1 in all phases as the cold part of the water column. This is the most unaffected part, as the solar radiation does not effectively penetrate that deep into the water hence the temperature stays almost constant. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
