The Effects Of Time In Sonnet 138 And Sir Walter Raleigh s...
A Matter of Time:
An analysis of the effects of time in William Shakespeare s Sonnet 138 and Sir Walter Raleigh s
The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd
Being a constant and unalterable force of nature, time is constant subject of renaissance poetry.
While some poems have time as the main subject of their conceits, other poems such as William
Shakespeare s Sonnet 138 and Sir Walter Raleigh The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd have
conceits that focus on other themes, but still portray time. Sonnet 138 is a man pondering the
changes of his relationship with his lover. The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd is a reply to a
lover s request for her to live with him and be his love. Both poems exhibits a lover whose youth,
trust, and love have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His knowledge of these nuances of life come from time: That she might think me some untutored
youth, / UnlearnГЁd in the world s false subtleties (Shakespeare 3 4). In this poem tims is as a
teacher, educating the lover on the futility of truly trusting someone. Therefore, time is the direct
origin of his lack of trust. While he can no longer trust anyone due to the lessons of time, he has
learned that trust must be conveyed. Consequently, he points out that seeming trust is an important
characteristic of any relationship. Therefore, he has learned that, while trust is futile, its presence,
whether actual or fabricated, is necessary for any relationship in life. Raleigh travels down a more
complicated path in the relationship between trust and time. The connection between trust and
Raleigh s poem is that time prevents it from existing. The Nymph states, If...truth in every shepherd
s tongue, / These pretty pleasures might me move / To...be thy love, meaning that if the Shepherd
was telling the truth, then she would love him (Raleigh 1 4). However, in Marlowe s poem, the
peom that prompted the Nymph s reply, the shepherd truly believes that his words are truth. The
disconnect between these two beliefs is closed with a simple explanation: time restricts trust. Due
to the fact that time makes ideals unattainable, any promises of such never can be trusted. With this
view, Raleigh again exhibits a pessimistic view of time and its effects.

The US Housing Market Bubble
When researching past economic recoveries, the housing market is the one to drive the economy
out of recession. That being said, this economic recession hasn t had much of an impact until
recently. America s housing boom had a tremendous influence on the economy for its low prices
and flow of new home construction.
The new construction market in the mid 2000 s was flourishing. People saw building a home as
an opportunity for a solid investment because prices and rates were so low that certain homes
could depreciate extremely slowly. However, there would be a negative effect from all this low
cost new construction and few were aware of just how devastating it would be to the new
construction market.
In 2005, the market was flooded with a vast array of homes that were all selling at a low price,
and this allowed people to buy and sell homes with minimal effort. Banks were being reckless with
their lending, not giving enough attention to who they were giving mortgages to, as virtually
anybody with a decent credit score could go to a bank and get a mortgage, sometimes without even
going to see if the land and ability for development was there. This created a housing bubble in
2006, and would inevitably come back to hurt a wide range of industries, but few were as damaged
as the new construction industry.
Once things started to get bad, they got really bad for a lot of families who were given mortgages,
who were not properly qualified. There was a major spike in defaults, with

Symbolism In The Scarlet Ibis
The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst is a realistic fiction about these two brothers, Doodle, and Doodle
s brother who was the narrator of the story, many symbols are used. A symbol is a materialistic
object being put in place for an abstract or complex emotion, or idea. For example the emojis you
use when texting are symbols you use to express how you are feeling. In this story, Doodle is
being symbolized by the Scarlet Ibis, the Scarlet Ibisis a bird and a symbolfor Doodle because of
their many similarities. An example of the Scarlet Ibis symbolizing Doodle is when Hurst
describes the physical health of Doodle and the Ibis. He describes Doodle as being very sick and
weak at the beginning of the story by saying He seemed all head, with a tiny body which was red
and shriveled like an old man s. Everybody thought he was going to die everybody except Aunt
Nicey.... (Hurst page 1). Later on in the story when the Scarlet Ibis is introduced, Doodle s father
describes the bird as: It looks tired, or maybe sick (Hurst page 5). By giving Doodle and the
Scarlet Ibis such similar physical features, it insinuates that whatever happens to the Scarlet Ibis
will more than likely happen to Doodle. Another example of the Scarlet Ibis being a symbol for
Doodle is when the Scarlet Ibis dies. At that moment the bird began to flutter, but the wings were
uncoordinated, and amid much flapping and a spray of flying feathers, it tumbled down, bumping
through the limbs of the bleeding tree and

Israel has a Failed State Index Score Due to the West Bank...
Israel
According to the US based Failed States Index (FSI), Israel ranks number 67 and is in greater
danger of becoming a failed state than the likes of Congo, Cuba and Jordan. Despite Israel s
booming economy, high life expectancy and low unemployment, part of the explanation for its low
FSI ranking is the West Bank. According to the Fund for Peace s methodology, Israel/West Bank is
considered one entity when determining its Failed States Index score. The issues Israel/ West Bank
scored highest on the FIS were; external intervention (8), factionalized elites (8), human rights (8),
group grievance (9.3), and refugees (8). Other sources of Israel s instability stems from the Israeli
Palestinian conflict, inequality, internal breakdown and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response to attacks Israel began building the anti terrorism fence to stop West Bank terrorists
from killing Israeli citizens. Whatever analysis is put on the history, there can be no disputing that
the Palestinian Territories (Gaza and the West Bank) have been occupied by Israel since the Six
Day War and that this occupation has had profound implications for the development of the two
occupied territories. The opposing sides have been in an almost continuous state of armed conflict.
The longer the Israeli Palestinian conflict continue, the weaker Israel as a modern state will become.
Regional Implications from Israel s Instability
The West Bank continues to remain an occupied territory with Israel being the occupying power.
Israel s policies in the West Bank have displaced a million Palestinians, forcing them into refugee
status which in turn has led to a refugee influx in neighboring country, Jordan. Palestinian existence
in the West Bank is being increasingly confined to ghettos cut off from farmland, schools, medical
care and from other Palestinians. Some would argue that Israel s aggressive policies against
Palestinians provoke terror attacks on Israeli citizens. The resort to terrorist acts by Palestinians,
especially suicide bombings in crowded public places, has caused them to lose much of the
international sympathy their cause would otherwise benefit from. Similarly, the cruelties of Israelis
to the Palestinians, especially in the ongoing siege of Gaza,

The Benefits Of Negative Visualization By Oliver Burkeman
Throughout generations, people believed that having positive visualizations can make situations
better, however when you are in a situation that gives you a negative outcome you become
devastated. Oliver Burkeman in his essay, The Benefits of Negative Visualization discusses how
negative visualization is more likely to make people happier than positive visualization. Burkeman
supported that negative visualization makes an individualhappier rather than positive visualization;
he supported this claim by describing how spending time and focusing on how well things would
go reduces one s motivation to achieve their goal. Tranquility gives individuals the opportunity to
focus on negative emotions, positive thinkers are less prepared and more acutely distressed,
negative visualization causes less stress, and being prepared for the worst case scenariohelps
establish what to expect. When using negative visualization, it would be beneficial to use it to
prepare oneself for the worst case scenarios and to reduce both fear and anxiety. In regards to
Burkeman s position, I can relate to the information he is presenting and apply it to my personal
life. Therefore, I can strongly agree with his point of view that negative visualization is more likely
to make an individual happier than positive visualization.
(topic sentence) Before I tried out for Track and Field, I imagined myself getting a bad time
running my mile, imagining how half way into the mile I would be puffing for air, my sides
beginning to burn, and I would be struggling to breathe. This was something that was
unnecessary for me to think about considering I would do the mile twice a week for regular
physical education. When it came to throwing both the shot put and the discus I imagined
myself struggling to pick up the eight pound shot put and having it roll out of my hand because
my fingers were not able to stand the weight of it. How I d go pick up the discus and I d be
unable to hold on to it right, even if it was similar to a Frisbee. This then led me to visualize
something even more severe than not being able to throw which was throwing it backwards and
making a total fool of myself. When it came to jumps, I replayed in my head over and over again

To My Dear And Loving Husband Comparison
To my Dear and Loving Husband written by Anne Bradstreet, is the story of a woman admiring
love for her husband. On the other hand, My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun written by
William Shakespeare, is the story of the love a man feels for an imperfect woman. Although the
two poems are about love, they interpret it in different ways through rhythmic structure, and
emotional expression.
To my Dear and Loving Husband has an impeccable rhythmic alignment. It starts with repeating if
ever three times in the first three lines. She uses this to express her deep love for her husband and
at the same time to confirm it. In the fourth line, she compares her love for her husband with the
love other women have for their own husbands. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is used to connect the last part of every line. Also, the poem is mainly a satire, not a serious
poem like Bradstreet s. Instead of praising his mistress, he emphasizes her imperfections and bad
characteristics. On the other hand, Bradstreet only mentions the good aspects of her husband.
She never says anything negative about him. From the first line to line ten, Shakespeare
describes his mistress not as the typical ideal woman, but as someone ordinary. He expresses this
especially in the fourth line where he uses personification to compare her hair to black wires.
Some of the things he says are; that her eyes are not shiny, her lips are not red, her breast are
brown instead of the perfect white, her breath odor is unpleasant and her voice is not melodious.
He does this to make his poem stand out from the crowd, and also to not make it exactly as other
love poems, such as Bradstreet s. He wants his poem to be more humorous and realistic. In
Bradstreet s poem everything is perfect, and in reality it does not matter what relationship we
are in, perfection does not exist. After he criticizes the woman in all possible ways, his poem
takes a turn. From lines eleven to fourteen, he says that although she is not perfect, he has never
seen somebody as beautiful as her. I grant I never saw a goddess go...And yet by heaven, I think
my love as rare / as any

Paraphilia s Theory Of Sexual Deviance
Sexual deviance is considered any sexual activity that is different than the normal, acceptable
sexual activities of a society, but is vital for the person to experience arousal and orgasm (Sadock,
2007). The activities that are considered deviant can change over time and be different in different
societies. These are also known as paraphilias. A paraphiliainvolves an extreme and continual
sexual interest in children, objects, animals, materials, etc. or harming oneself or others during
sexual activity. Sometimes the sexual interest focuses on the person s own interests while in others
it focuses on the target of the person s sexual interest. For one to be diagnosed with one of these
disorders, the paraphilia would need to cause considerable... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Medication is also helpful in reduction of fantasies and harmful behavior which is necessary for
those who participate in life threatening behaviors such as sexual asphyxiation (minddisorders.com).
Biological Theories of Sexual Deviance
Biological theories of sexual deviance focus on structural differences in the brain, the genetic and
chromosomal makeup, hormone levels, as well as defects in cerebral functioning. Although a
person s biological makeup does have a part in some paraphilias, those who research the causes
have yet to come to a conclusion on the exact reasoning behind them. It is thought that
psychological factors are more the central reasoning behind these behaviors and that some event or
events that occurred during childhood caused association of sexual pleasure with that event or
object and a paraphilia evolved. (Benuto, 2009).

The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara Essay
The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara The major theme of the story was creating awareness in
adolescents about what life has to offer. The nature of human beings of accepting the realities of
life to such an extent that apathy and lethargy sets in, is what proves to be destructive for the
social fabric of today s world. In this stagnation, Mrs. Moore provides the impetus required for
people to realize their god given right to something better. We are told that Mrs. Moore has a
college degree, is well dressed most of the times, and has a good command on her language. She
seems to be a kind of a person who has seen the world. She has experienced life, and wants to use
that experience in providing the children with an opportunity to broaden... Show more content on

At times, she asks them to question the way of things, and realize that they are not receiving
enough of the prosperity that they deserve to have. We see that as society struggles against new
ideas, so did the children. They did not readily take to Mr. Moore s indoctrination. In the text the
author says that And then she gets to the part about we all poor and live in the slums, which I
don t feature. And I m ready to speak on that , but she steps out in the street and hails two cabs
just like that. We realize that Mrs. Moore is trying to open their eyes to the world around them,
when she takes them on a trip around the expensive shopping complexes of the city. As Mrs.
Moore takes them through these areas, we get the distinct impression that Sylvia gets angry. She
discovers a fiber glass boat that is worth a thousand dollars. Sugar touches the boat, at which she
gets jealous. She does not realize at first the reason for her anger, and almost directs it at her
cousin, Sugar. Yet she stops herself and realizes that she is not angry with Sugar, rather that
something else is wrong. We see the first signs of comprehension in the group. Things change as
the laid back nature of the girls is shattered when Sugar comes up with an important observation.
She says that I don t think all of us here put together eat in a year what that sailboat costs. Sugar

Bread Givers, By Anzia Yezierska
In Bread Givers by Anzia Yezierska Sara is growing up as a Jewish immigrant migrated from
Russia. From a young age she has only wanted to support herself and her family. As she grows
older she begins to aspire to be something . What that something is seems unclear even to Sara.
Sara is so unsure of what she hungers for that multiple points can be argued. Some may say she
hungers for money because of the way her familyhas always had to scrape for pennies just to
survive. Some may argue she quests for freedom because she runs away from her family. These
are decent analysis but they do not dive as deep as they should. Sara s aspirations are so much

The Effects Of Social Media On Student Athletes
Along with the game, or match, as a whole being a factor in the social media changes, social
media sites also help connect the athletes themselves with their fans. Social networking has
become a large part in recruiting athletes at the collegiate level, along with their behavioral
decisions while being a student athlete on campus. At the University of North Carolina, the
scandal of a couple of football players posting inappropriate photos on Twitter became public due
to UNC failing to monitor social media posts by their student athletes (Bowles np). Similarly,

The youth forever holds the future of the world, and encouraging and adapting to the ways that
attract adolescents will provide success for those who believe in it. For example, in 2011 a
world famous rock climber, Tommy Caldwell, lived on a rock ledge 1,200 feet in the air in
Yosemite Valley, California for over two weeks, updating followers on social media along the way
(Lowther np). In the world of adventure sports, Caldwell s decision held great value and changed
the game for climbers who wished of being known around the globe. Contrarily, though, Alpinist
Magazine editor, Katie Ives, added insight to the growth of social media suggesting, In the last six
years, more climbers have started engaging in almost live updates from the mountains. Instead of
actually having the experience be the important part, it s the representation of the experience that
becomes the important part something is lost (Lowther np). Again, I state the concept in which
Hitler wrote, in changing with the world and the youth within it in order to ensure success of a
prospective idea. In comparison to televised and electronically viewer counts, the numbers of live
attendance drastically reduced, despite one of America s major pastimes being attending sporting
events (Zillmann np). Furthermore, during the 1999 Fiesta Bowl Championship game between the

Relationship Between Child Support And Child Relationship
Parent to Child Relationship Analyzed by Child Support and Disconnection
I am writing about the topic of how child support can affect the relationship a parent feels
towards their child. In a sense that it can make the parent feel as if the child is an expense. As
something they have to constantly keep up with like a phone bill or water bill. I chose this topic
because I feel that there is a disconnection between parents that are required to pay child support
toward their child. Those parents paying child support in most instances are only allowed to see
their child for a certain period of time. That being a weekend or every other weekend. If not at all
in the most extreme cases. This disconnection in turn can lead to a broken relationship between the
parent and the child. The parent is seen as a negative figure by the child whereas the parent sees the
child as an expense. Which can lead to other negative impacts between the family. The parent with
full custody or majority custody is a better able to raise the child and instill negative feelings about
the other parent into the child. What is significant and interesting about this particular field of
inquiry that this is constantly happening in modern time. As seen through high levels of divorce,
custody battles, and parents that are required to pay child support on a monthly basis. At times
the other parent with majority custody can even be better off as they are receiving another check
while the parent required to pay child support is at times struggling to get by. Needless to say that
the parent required to pay child support is at fault and put themselves in the situation in the first
place. The challenges I expect to face while researching are unscholarly resources in which
frustrated parents post on online websites. Even though these experiences may be first hand
insights they are most likely posted to unscholarly websites which cannot be used for this essay. A
possible thesis is, child support leads to a broken relationship between a parent and a child with the
cause of future disconnection. The research question being, Does child support make a parent feel
like their child is an expense that leads to disconnection? With many answers surrounding this

The Threat of Human Cloning Essay
The human genome is constructed of four simple chromosomes, each of which is represented by a
single capital letter; G, A, C, and T. These simple chemicals are the building blocks of life, and act
as the blueprints for one of the most complicated biological structures in the known universe; the
human. Strands of these chromosomes billions of letters long provide a uniqueness that guarantees
individuality in a swiftly growing world. Is not individuality after all one of the most highly
acclaimed American ideals? Does it not compose the backbone of freedom, our country s founding
doctrine? It most assuredly does, and individuality therefore, is one of the most integral parts of
humansociety. The importance of this ideal dictates that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cloning cannot be tolerated in society anywhere, not because of the ramifications on the individual
countries and their cultures, but more importantly because of the mental state that a clone would
inevitably have to cope with. The ability to clone humans is in essence the ability to steal a piece
of someone s individuality, which we have already closely associated as being a prime evil. The
ancient philosopher Rene Descartes stated That in order to understand the passions of the soul its
functions must be distinguished from those of the body (Hallman, 40). That is, the soul and body
must have distinctions, and this I agree with for the sake of understanding the mechanics and
interactions of the two. However after this has been established the line must be drawn.
George Johnson, believes that each person, whether they be a clone or not, should understandably
have his own soul created by the composition of previous thoughts and experiences (Nussbaum,
Sunstein 69). The example we are provided with references the unique nature of twins. According
to this reasoning, twins grow up together, composed of the same genetic makeup, but because of
personal experiences result in different persons (69). If this truly is the case then cloning does not
accomplish what it is intended for in the first place. Likewise he argues, clones who share exact
genome matches will also become different people as a

ABSTRACT Effectively managing human resources in the organizations is a big concern both for

Organizations are not buildings or other physical structures; rather, organizations are the people
who work together to achieve a set of goals (Koh Kahn, 1966). These people come with variant
motivations, experiences and values and their individual differences tend to direct behavior in
numerous divergent directions. To direct behavior toward the accomplishment of a focused
mission, the organizations have to develop mechanism, which reduces behavior variability.
Organizational structure and organizational culture has been described as the mechanisms to
reduce behavior variability (Weber, 1946; Burns Stalker, 1961; Mintzberg, 1979; Schein, 1985;
Weick, 1987; Dension, 1990). However both of them have unique impact on individual behavioral
outcomes i.e. satisfaction, stress, motivation, alienation, and performance etc. It is needed to have a
deeper understanding of the functional roles of structural and cultural forces in the workplace so as
to understand the behavioral outcomes of the individual employees and to reduce the behavioral
variability for achieving organizational goals. For an organization to perform well in a competitive
environment there must be internal consistency among the four dimensions of

The Education System Of The American School System
Against School
In a progressively more globalized world that necessitates more effective educational practices, the
U.S., once the biggest global force in education, has seen its dominance slowly slip out, and its
educational status fall even lower than that of several third world countries. The decline
experienced in American school system academic achievement is not as a result of lack of funding,
but as a consequence of the overall educational system watering down. According to Gatto,
educating children through the existing public school system of America is crippling rather than
helping them. From his essay, Against School, it is established that the goal of the whole public
school system is to limit people s intelligence in an attempt to create a society that is manageable.
Gatto continues to state that action is needed to change this situation. He supports his assertions
using current and historical information about the American school system and his personal
experience. After reading his article, one realizes that most of Gatto s arguments are true. It is true
that the American education system is making the students comfort to the government and society
norms, which is why they are easily bored. This essay s goal will, therefore, be to support John
Gatto s beliefs.
To begin with, Gatto utilizes historical information to question the need for getting an education
using the American public school system. Past occurrences show that people do not need an

Ideal Men Women of the Heian Court based on “The Tale of...
Genji Monogatari or The Tale of Genji is a story that was written by Murasaki Shikibu during the
Heian period. It is a very well received work of Japanese literature and the first part of the story is
written with the main character being Genji, and then continues without him. I have no knowledge
of the second half of Genji Monogatari but it is in the first section of this tale the characteristics
and traits for ideal men and women of the society within the story can be gathered. The criteria for
an ideal man or woman in The Tale of Genjiwas the importance of the physical attribute of beauty,
the background, personality, and education of a woman, and characteristics that the main hero of
the story, Genji, possessed. In the society... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The general community around Genji is probably similar in the audiences understanding of his
character because Genji was still only 17 at the time, and thus for them to lament based mostly
on his beauty is a portrayal of society s love for an ideal and perfect beauty. However, this
standard was not only put on males, but also placed on females. In chapter 2 of Genji
Monogatari they speak of many women and the physical characters that fit the ideal women is
that which is pretty, innocent, and young. The stress men put on beauty is shown in one
example said by the Chief Equerry of the story. In that example, the only thing that he found
disagreeable with one of his lovers was that lest her lack of looks offend me. Going back to
Genji s beauty, the men of Genji Monogatari must have been deeply obsessed with perfect beauty
as during chapter 2 they found Genji so beautiful they wished he was a woman. It is important to
note, however, that while the story emphasizes the importance of beauty in an ideal man or
woman, there is never an actual description of physical characteristics make a perfect beauty. In
any case, while beauty is subjective and not defined in Genji, it is clear that it is an important
opinion one must have for another before a person can be considered ideal. Chapter 2 of Genji
Monogatari touched on the physical appearance of woman and how they must look to be desirable,
but it also went in depth of the pluses and minuses of other

Information Visualization And Its Impact On Human Perception
The continuous developing advanced technology has been leading to the generation of millions of
terabytes of information every year. Most of them can be available in digital forms [1]. The large
amount of information online is no longer hard for people to locate and achieve due to many
searching engine such as Google. However, understanding information is still a problem.
Information visualization is the use of computer supported interactive visual representations of
information to enhance and amplify human thinking. Visual components are used because human
eyes can process visual cues more rapidly and human brains can understand them more easily. Since
the first IEEE conference on Information Visualization in 1990 [1], this technology has... Show

The overall goal of the data mining process is to extract information from data sets and transform it
into an understandable structure such as patterns and knowledge for further use [3].
1.2 Similarities and Differences
The growing use of information visualization (IV) tools and data mining (DM) algorithms stems
from two separate lines of research. Information visualization researchers believe in the importance
of giving users an overview and insight into the data, while data mining researchers believe that
statistical algorithms and machine learning can be relied on to find the interesting patterns [4].
However, there are some similar points between these two technologies. The input of information
visualization is information, while the input of data mining algorithm is data. The aim of
information visualization is to represent information to enhance human thinking. Human beings
will think more deeply and clearly with the help of IV and then understand information more easily.
Similarly, the goal of DM is to generate patterns for further use, which also helps humans to make
sense of data.
The input data of these two technologies is also comparable in terms of the dimensions: both are
usually in high dimensions. The reason why IV technology is useful for amplifying human thinking
is that it can show high

A Mercy By Toni Morrison
A Mercy by Toni Morrison is a story of a sixteen year old slave girl named Florens. The story takes
place in the late seventeenth century and explores the experiences of African American through
slavery and freedom. The novel includes characters if mixed race; Portuguese, Dutch, English,
Native American and African American who are trying to settle down in the new world. Morrison
focuses on the ravages of slavery, both physical and emotional, that plagued the time. More
specifically, she writes about the complications that arise from slavery: strained relationships
between mother and daughter, the blurred lines of community ties. The story revolves around the

Morrison lets each of her key characters control the narrative at some point in A Mercy. Her choice
with both the treatment of time and the treatment of perspective makes it possible for her to
capture the reader s full attention and leave the reader disoriented and anxious for answers about
the upcoming events in the novel. The conflicts among the characters lay emphasis on novels
structure. Morrison writes each chapter of the book as if it is being told through the point of
view of a different character with only Florens points of view consistently repeating. The
sequence of the narrative is as follows: Florens /Jacob /Florens /Lina /Florens /Rebeka /Florens
/Sorrow /Florens /Willard and Scully /Florens /Florens Mother. The narrative structure of a Mercy
is anything but a typical simple linear narrative usually told by one narrator. The opening chapter of
the novel is told by Florens point of view who is a slave on a mission for her mistress. Florens
point of view is told as her stream of conscious. This form of first person narrative does progress in
a linear fashion as Florens travels to find the blacksmith lover who can possibly save her owner
from dying of small pox. The last chapter of the novel is also written as first person point of view
by Florens Minha Mae. It is imperative that these chapters be written in first person point of view

Violence on TV Essay
Violence on TV
For a long time now the debate has been, and continues to be, as to whether or not violence on
television makes children more violent. As with all contentious issues there are both proponents
and detractors. This argument has been resurrected in the wake of school shootings, most notably
Columbine and Erfurt, Germany; and acts of random violence by teenagers, the murders of two
Dartmouth professors. Parents, teachers, pediatricians, child psychiatrists, and FCC Chairmen
William Kennard and former Vice President Al Gore say violent TV programming contribute in

Let s take a look at the tale of the tape of individuals who are involved in this argument. The
persons against media violence: parent, teachers, pediatricians, and child psychiatrists have a
logos advantage over the persons who say media violence is not a problem: major TV network

violence influences violent behavior. The major TV network and cable providers also have
statistical data that backs up their claim, but unlike those who are against them their statistical

Major TV network and cable providers often use the First Amendment to make up what they lack

Reclaiming the Sociological Study of Leadership
Abstract
Sociology s long tradition of examining the intersection between individual and group behavior
suggests an obvious line of inquiry into the nature of leadership in both formal and informal
settings. Indeed, sociological studies from 1935 through mid century created a solid foundation for
a distinctive, sociological approach. Surprisingly, that promise has yet to be fulfilled; sociology has
instead often stood on the sidelines as more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This sense of leadership as detached from actual leading was described by Annie Dillard in her
memoire An American Childhood. Among the social elite of mid twentieth century Pittsburg,
Dillard writes, leadership was a genteel way of talking about social class without ever talking
about social class. Unless, of course, one unpacked the term and said, explicitly, the leadership
class. Here again, to lead is less a verb than an honorific. Half a century later, leadership has been
completely commodified: at Bryant University, it is possible to purchase leadership. For a
contribution of $1,000 an ordinary person can instantly become a leader, complete with an
official leadership designation and a prime parking spot labeled Reserved for President s
Leadership Council. If you can t afford $1,000 but still want to be a leader, you may contribute
$375.00 to WGBH, Boston s National Public Radio Station, and instantly you will be a member of
the Leadership Circle.
Along with the currently popular view of leadership as a mark of prestige, add the more
traditional views of leadership as consisting in inborn personality traits, or learned skills, or styles,
or a system of power relations, or the focus of group processes, and it is no surprise that a recent
review found 65 different classification systems, each attempting to define the dimensions of
leadership (Fleishman et al. 1991).

William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream Essay
Generally, the relationship between the sun and the moon is a metaphorical construct of the male
and female gender. However, in William Shakespeare s, A Midsummer Night s Dream, the author
develops the traditional representation of a gendered sun and moon further, in order to symbolize
the two celestial bodies, now, as masculine and feminine oppositions. More specifically,
Shakespeare expands on the traditional idea of the sun and moonas a gender concept by identifying
both as a union, and the relationships that solidify these bonds, in which he delineates the
opposition of romance to the opposition of the sun and moon; in its destructive and regenerative
aspect, the moon accompanies the resolution of the conflicts, that is, the infidelity between lovers,
and shed its light over a return to individual and social order.
As a result, the function of moon imagery shift according to the lunar cycle (old and new phases),
which subsequently, creates the play s themes of dreamscape, female bodily change and chastity,
and most importantly, the romance and infidelities experienced in a relationship. Psychologically, A
Midsummer Night s Dream, starts in the light of day, symbolizing consciousness, and descends into
the depths of the unconscious, moonless night. Similarly, Shakespeare s use of moon imagery
assumes a new, or invisible, phase laying the foundation for the texts theme of dreamscape;
consequently, the dreamscape theme and the imagery of the moon are reduced to

Chinese industries continue to develop in the 1930s with the advent of the Nanking decade in
the 1930s, when Chiang Kai shek unified most of the country and brought political stability.
China s industries developed and grew from 1927 to 1931. Though badly hit by the Great
Depression from 1931 to 1935 and Japan s occupation of Manchuria in 1931, industrial output
recovered by 1936. By 1936, industrial output had recovered and surpassed its previous peak in
1931 prior to the Great Depression s effects on China. This is best shown by the trends in Chinese

The rural economy retained much of the characteristics of the Late Qing. While markets had been

almost completely geared towards producing cash crops for foreign consumption, and was thus
subject to the say of the international markets. Key exports included glue, tea, silk, sugar cane,
tobacco, cotton, corn and peanuts.
The rural economy was hit hard by the Great Depression of the 1930s, in which an
overproduction of agricultural goods lead to massive falling prices for China as well as an increase

What Is The Relationship Between Gilgamesh And Enkidu
The Epic of Gilgamesh
The Epic of Gilgamesh is an Epic poem coined from the ancient Mesopotamia, and it is regarded
as one of the earliest surviving literary pieces. This poem is closely connected to history as it tries
to explain to the audience on the origin of the people of Mesopotamia. The relationship between
Gilgamesh and Enkidu as well as the ways the two view each other forms very central aspects in
this poem.
Enkidu is depicted as half man and half beast. Gilgamesh is regarded as the central symbol of the
natural and the uncivilized world. Gilgamesh dies early, and this is taken as a punishment from
God for all the trouble he and Gilgamesh got into together. The death of Enkidu hits Gilgamesh in a

Approaches to Administration and Total Quality Management
Approaches to Administration Total Quality Management
Approaches to Administration
To some extent I have had experiences with each of these approaches to administration over the
course of my working career; however I have had the greatest exposure to the classical and the
human relations approaches. Of these the classical approach has been the most common. Many of
the organizations I have been associated with were organized around a formal organizational
structure with specific rules and expectations concerning procedures and processes. The
organizational hierarchy was well defined.
According to Willis W. Harman (2001) people who lack self motivation fit compliantly into this
type of organizational management structure. However, a growing fraction of the population,
displaying self actualization tendencies are bothered by the oppressiveness of hierarchical
management and are insistent on a more participatory role. Human relation approaches require
decisions to be made with the maximum feasible involvement of those whose lives are affected by
the outcome. This form of organizational management calls for the enhancement of humanistic
values such as trust, honesty, cooperation, caring and personal responsibility to develop personal
relationships.
Harmon (2001) says that initially the human relation approach may seem to be inefficient, but
ultimately it tends to raise moral, raise the sense of being involved with meaningful work, boost
individual incentive, improve

The Effects Of Japanese Culture In Japan
Japan has a very rich and unique culture, unlike any other culture in the world. The Japanese are
close and united, and willing to help each other, to the point that they would even risk their lives
for one another. Their culture has certain aspects of it that every nation should have. In his book,
John Hersey explores the effects that culture and environment have on an individual s views and
belief through analyzing a stereotypical Japanese man, an Americanized Japanese priest, and a
widowed Japanese woman and how they react similarly to the bombing of Hiroshima. The influence
of Japanese culture has an astounding impact on the reactions of Hersey s characters.
Throughout his writing, Hersey s story reveals the effects of the Japanese culture on the people
after the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. After the bomb was dropped, it was not
everyone for themselves but rather, the opposite. People came together to help the wounded, and
since so many were hurt and there wasn t enough first responders, everyone was willing to help
one another. This wasdue to the Japanese culture and how close it makes everyone. Unlike
Americans, the Japanese are not selfish. Varley Pride wrote about the pride the Japanese culture
brings book, Japanese Culture. This Japanese pride is another important reason as to why the
Japanese help each other they hate to see one another hurt or wounded. The Deep Culture of

The charter school conflict exists because there are some people for it and some people against it.
According to, The Premier Online Debate Website, arguments of those of charter school is that it
allows individuals or groups with innovative educational ideas to put them into practice without
being controlled by local or state administration. These schools may have unconventional hours,
experiment with curricula, specialize in certain types of teaching or design programs tailored to a
particular audience or community. They believe that charter schools provide quality educationand
they allow teachers to try new teaching methods which allows students to develop under new
education styles because charter schools have less regulation. It can introduce the ingredient of a
measure of needed competition in the public schools. According to Sarah Cordes and Institute for
Education and Social Policy (IESP) New York University, charter school growth means that more
students have opportunities to attend charters and that more traditional public schools face
competition from charters in the local school marketplace . They may provide for more
accountability because schools that work will be rewarded and those that do not will be changed
or even closed.
However, the other side argues that charter schools do not outperform traditional public schools.
Charter schools may not be equally available to all students and

Tale Of Two Cities Women
Throughout history, women have been viewed as inferior to men, being portrayed as weak, less
intelligent, and dependent on men. This point of view has been exemplified in many literary works
by creating a male dominant society. In A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens, the
female characters unlike the male, are all created as if to say that women are not capable of being
well rounded people. Dickens portrayal of women in A Tale of Two Cities is problematic because
rather than craft well rounded characters, as he does with many of the male characters, he portrays
them as beautiful but stereotypically weak, clever but crazy, and unattractive yet brave.
One of the first female characters introduced, Lucie Manette, is depicted as being

Sydney Parkinson Research Paper
As a young person I was captivated and intrigued by the tales of early explorers and naturalists,
especially the British. Captain James Cook s voyages especially sparked my sense of adventure
and curiosity. Being among the first westerners to have contact with unknown cultures must have
been magnificent. To be exposed to foreign languages, material culture, flora and fauna and then
to have the opportunity to record the life style and environment for generations to glimpse is
extraordinary. Sydney Parkinson was one of these fortunate people who was in the right place at
the right time, to work in the capacity of one of botanical artist on board the first voyage to the
South Seas on board the Endeavor , captained by James Cookand hired by Sir Joseph Banks. He

This is where his life took a turn. He now was exposed to a wealthy and influential circle of
people in the world of natural history and botany who recognized his talents and skills as an
artist. He was introduced to James Lee, also a Quaker, who had a major influence in botanical
enterprises in England. Lee, for a time, was employed at the Chelsea Physic Gardens; published
the first book written I English titled, An Introduction to Botany which introduced the principles
of Linnaeus classification; partnered with Louis Kennedy in establishing the Vineyard Nursery,
and the infamous French Botanical artist Pierre Joseph Redoute also stayed with the Lee s for a
period of time. Needless to say, Lee was influential and esteemed in the field of botany and the
natural sciences. Lee saw Parkinson s early flower paintings which were exhibited at the Free
Society in London in 1766 he was so impressed by Parkinson s ability, that he hired him to tutor
his 13 year old daughter, Ann. Several of her adult paintings are now at Kew. (Parkinson Journal,

Jonathan Dickinson State Park Ecosystem
Ecosystem Description: In this visit to Jonathan Dickinson State Park we had the opportunity to
observe three ecosystems; Maritime Hammock, Dunes, and Mangroves swamp. The first
ecosystem visited was Maritime Hammock This ecosystem occurs along the coast behind the
dunes. It is similar as Hammocks forests that we saw in the Everglades but with a little bit less of
vegetation. The temperature is nice and dry, not too much humidity. Maritime Hammocks are in
general halophytic communities, this means that the vegetation here can tolerate the salty water
bus doesn t need it to survive. In this ecosystem we can found trees as oaks or grape fruits. The
second ecosystem visited was Mangroveswamps. Mangroves lives in the estuarine zones. We

Personal Narrative-Fair Job Fair
Last Friday, I went to the Career Fair and there were eleven organizations. Out of the eleven
organizations, I only went up to three organizations because I was more interested in their
companies.
The first company I went up to was Shaw because Shaw is a carpet company that I want to start
off for my first job. When I went up to the two ladies, I introduced myself and stating what I am
majoring in and what I am looking for. One of the ladies provided me information whether the
company had a position open for any accounting. Unfortunately, the company did not have any
opening. She told me after graduation to look at their website for any open position, so I left her
a copy of my resume. After having my first conversation, I realize I forgot to ask her for a business
card. It is important for me to ask for a business card, so I can email them if I have any questions. I
need to improve that as one of my networking skills of not being afraid to ask for a business card. ...

about the company. She provided me with two business cards. The first card was about the
website that I can search for open position, and the second card was her information. Before I left

Summary OfThe Dwelling In Fuchin Mountains
The Dwelling In Fuchin Mountains was created by Haung Dongwang. It s a hand painted scroll
using ink to paint during the yanug dynasty. This piece shows the area between Fuchin river, its
mostly He painted this peace in his later years. This piece gives you a feeling of a larger landscape
that could stretch even further than most would think. It makes me think of Fan Kauns Travelers
By Streams and Mountains. The compositions are different, but the idea of using a sort atmosphere
feeling that you get from a lot of Chinese ink painting. As author Hung Sheng explains Haung
Dongwang used many ink and brush techniques. Two of the main techniques shown are hemp fiber
textural strokes and alum head textural strokes. Hemp fiber strokes were mostly used to describe
boulders, while alum head strokes were mostly used small angular rocks on top of hills.
These painting techniques show the influences of master ink paintings done by Dong Yaung and
Jaurn. Huang s Dwelling in Fuchin Mountains shows not only that, but beautiful composition that
enhances the brush strokes. Daiost painting like this show off the purity of the landscape almost
like its untouched and seems like we re looking at a remote part of the world that no one else has
ever seen. Culture this painting shows something different than what we have seen in early
landscape painting in class or most American paintings after this time which depict the day or a
specific event. While Chinese painting showed a sort of journey

The Ethics Of Animal Research Essay
PHILOSOPHY 106 Is the use of Animals in Biomedical Research Morally Justified?
Animals have been treated immorally since the beginning of time, this is shown by hunting,
farming, trapping, testing of products and biomedical research etc. As humans, majority of us claim
animals as our resources as we use them for eating, making clothing, (leather and fur jackets, shoes)
working animals, as a means of transport, animal testing etc. In this essay I will discuss the use of
animals in biomedical research and state why some believe it is morally justified. I will then
present an objection to argue why biomedical research is morally unjustified and why I believe
this. I will write this essay using resources from Tom Regan s, The case for animal rights , David
DeGrazia s, The ethics of animal research: what are the prospects for agreement? , Baruch A.
Brody s, Defending animal research: An international perspective and Peter Singer s, Animal
Liberation at 30 . I will then come to my own conclusion based on the different perspectives from
the above philosophers and by using my own knowledge on the issue.
In this first half of the essay I will discuss the different viewpoints from the philosophers Regan,
DeGrazia and Singer on their perspectives on why biomedical research is morally unjustified. In
Tom Regan s The Case for Animal Rights he argues that animals have a quality that can t be
decreased to their utility and puts forth a defense to eliminate harm brought about

million years ago) and were extinct in the Cretaceous period (about 65 million years ago).
Dinosaur are a diverse species ranging in different shapes and sizes and were able to survive in a
variety of ecosystems (Australian Museum, 2016) (Natural History Museum, 2017) (Dinosaur
Jungle, 2015).
The fundamental physical features of a dinosaur are:
Diapsid (animal with two holes in skull behind eye socket)
Vertebrates (animal with a spinal cord surrounded by cartilage or bone)
A hole in the skull between the eye socket and nostril
Ankle that bends in single plane
A secondary palate that allows dinosaurs to eat and breathe at the same time
A large hole in the hip socket
Limbs held directly under the body
Three or more sacral vertebrae

The Australovenator is the most completed skeleton of any Cretaceous carnivorous dinosaur ever
found in Australia with approximately 25% of the bones recovered and prepared. The skeleton
consists of two nearly complete forelimbs and hind limbs, along with isolated ribs, gastralia and
both dentaries. The fossils were discovered at the bottom of a Billabong near the town of Winton,
Queensland. The Australovenator was a 5 6m swift predator that stood about 1.6m high and unlike
most theropod dinosaurs, the Australovenator had massive arms and hands with two of its three

The Main Difference Between Opera And Musical Theatre
When imagining opera one cannot help but picture the iconic pigtailed woman wearing the horned
helmet and holding a spear. This image certainly is an element of opera (Bloom) yet the discipline
holds much more. Since its origins in sixteenth century Italy (Parker) opera has been fundamental to
the performing arts. By understanding its rich history as well as its contemporary trends arts
administrators may continue to present this beloved art form to their audiences.
The word opera, in its modern sense as a composition in which poetry, dance, and music are
combined , was first used in 1639. Shortly following was the earliest documented English usage
in 1648 ( Opera ). What is the major difference between opera and musical theatre? A famous
composer named Stephen Sondheim has said that It s about the expectation of the audience. When
it s on Broadway, people expect mediocre singing and good acting; when it s in an opera house,
people expect mediocre acting and good singing (qtd. In Leigh)
The first composition called an opera was Dafne by Jacopo Peri and it was created around 1597.
The composer was inspirited by Florentine humanists who were elite at that time. It is noteworthy
that Dafne was trying to recreate the Greek drama, which is kind of recreating the characteristic of
the Renaissance in a broader view (Parker).
There are four main periods of opera history. In the Baroque period (1590 1750), there were two
dominated composers named Jacopo Peri and Claudio

Essay On Gilgamesh
There is debate to whether or not the 12th tablet of the Epic of Gilgamesh belongs to the original
story. Gilgamesh showcases many tropes that we see in classic epics and novels of heros. He was
a man without fear, without a challenge, and at the beginning of the story he is painted out to be
more of a villain than a hero. This was do to his unrest, he need someone who could challenge him;
this would allow him to go down the path path of a hero. Enkiduwas created by the gods to
challenge Gilgameshand push him. I feel after he meets Enkidu, he starts to consider his fame more
and channels his gifts towards accomplishing feats instead terrorizing his people. Although, this

In Tablet 7 (60 62) they talk about the underworld as Enkidu is passing into the afterlife. Despite
that the text doesn t really strike fear into the reader about the underworld. He is turned into a
dove and is taken to a house where the gods of the the underworld and afterlife reside. Fame is
glorified more in the first 11 tablets. So if it was presented the way it was in the 12th tablet it
would take away from that aspect. If I tell you what I saw of the ways of the Netherworld, O sit
you down and weep! (194). This line alone depicts the differences in viewpoints in the first 11
tablets when compared to the 12th tablet. Its depicting the netherworld as a hellish place and
brings to question is fame worth it. Enkidu tells Gilgamesh of the people he saw; the man who
battle, the one who is left to rot in the fields. Enkidu states that the first man his love ones weep
and the second man has found no rest in the netherworld (195). This tablet tackles what happens to
these men of honor and fame and shows that regardless of what you do in the the human world, the
netherworld is ruthless to all. I begs the question is eternal glory and fame worth it in

Essay about William Gibson s Idoru
Idoru Idoru by william gibson is nothing less than an awe insiring book for me. no other author
that i have come across can inspire one to recreate visions of reality at the turn of every page.
Gibsons books are all compelling; neuromancer (1984) needing perhaps a special mention; as this
book single handedly created the cyberpunk genre, aswell as coining phrases such as cyberspace .
However, as one of his later works (1996), we are able to find within Idorus more contempory
exploration of our worlds transformation into a high density infomation governed datasphere, an
analysis of what might happen to certain aspects of humanity as technology, infomation, and a new
reality converge within the global infrastructure.

It examines the (basically exagerated, and possibly likely)new media conglomerates, the power
they have, how the use and abuse it especially in relation to the world economy. One can spend
pages and pages outlining the aspects of the world that Idoru covers; every little point begs to be
interperated, and as there is such a wealth of infomation, ideas, and typographic references to
modern culture, a mass of isomorphisms which reach out to one, this book is, to me, personally at
least, bordering on revolutionary.
Idoru is however, not a work of classic liturature, and doesnt share much with its classical literary
counterparts (Brave new world for example), but as a work on its own, within its own genre it is
certainly one of the finest. Perhaps in this analysis, one should consider the usual analytical tools
(plot, structure, characterisation etc), aswell as how this book could help us in predicting a
(considerably less dark) vision of the future, not to mention what it is about this book that inspires
one so much.
As previously mentioned, this novels plot is somewhat complicated this however does not detract
from the overall flow of the book in a sense, the density of infomation and detail we are faced with
when reading, acts as a mechanism to allow us to live the moment in the novel a citizen in an
infomtion dense society would be faced with so many details on a daily basis, it

Essay on Nursing Care Plan Pathophysiology
Patient: M.H. 80 year old female experiencing renal failure.
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a disease that is described as a loss of kidney function
gradually over time. As kidney function decreases, the waste collection in the body s blood
becomes high and makes the individual feel sick. This disease can lead to other complications in
the body such as anemia, poor nutritional health, high blood pressure, and nerve damage. These
complications will begin to progress and show as CKD progresses to advanced stages. Early
detection of this disease is essential when it comes to treatment. If CKD is diagnosed early
enough the disease progression can be slowed down and managed. This disease will eventually
lead to failure of the kidneys ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The amount of filtration done by the kidneys will obviously cause negative effects throughout the
body if they are not functioning properly. CKD will cause the body to retain many excess fluids
and waste that are normally filtered out to prevent internal harm throughout the body. With kidney
disease there will be a rise in blood pressure due to the amount of extra fluid that is retained in
the blood vessels. This fluid retention will cause the passageways to become narrow and make
blood passage through the vessels increasingly difficult, in turn causing an increase in blood
pressure. There will also be an increase in protein and blood found in the urine because it is not
filtered out properly by the kidneys. Swelling will occur in the extremities and around the eyes
because of the fluid retention as well. The longer the urine goes unfiltered the harder it may
become to urinate due to pain or blockage or there may be more frequent night time urination
(The National Kidney Foundation, 12). There are also a few tests that will show whether or not
the kidneys are filtering the body s fluids as they should. A simple urinalysis can be done to detect
protein or blood in the urine. This will alert the medical professionals to a possible problem with
the proper functioning of the kidneys. There are also Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, and
glomerular filtration rate (GFR) tests that will measure the

Style Elements And Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron
Style Elements and Harrison Bergeron It is quite difficult to detail a dystopian future without
thinking about the variables. What time period shall it be? What new laws will be enacted to
cause the dystopia? How will the characters be portrayed, and what shall be their challenges? These
variables would be enough to repel authors from this topic, but one author managed to perfectly
describe a dystopian future with his short piece, Harrison Bergeron. This short story, written by
Kurt Vonnegut, has been renowned for showing an almost perfect dystopia. Through the use of
stylistic elements such as diction, imagery, and details, Vonnegut reveals a grim tone, where even
if good tries to prevail, it will be stopped and forgotten. In Harrison

Personal Philosophy Reflection Paper
For the past six weeks, I learned how philosophy has influenced the world globally. Learning that
when human beings voice their thoughts with others, they receive a chance to change the world,
especially if one person speaks one on one, one personage can change the world of one body. My
belief in the power of language is strengthened by philosophy. This philosophy course has
encouraged me to share my opinions that are not influenced by other peers or older adults, but to
deeply reflect and research my beliefs and opinions. Looking at how philosophy has shaped the
United States, I grant my thankfulness towards the Constitution, and the democracy and freedom
we now have, compared to other countries.
My views of electronics have changed, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before philosophy my views would have leaned a little bit more towards a socialist country, but
now I gratitude freedom in hard work, education, speech, etc.
From my readings to research from Edutopia to literature courses, I have gained a deeper
appreciation for language. In order to understand what one is speaking, a person needs to spend
time listening to one s language and before responding must reflect and analyze what the other
said and how to respond. If a person wants to love another person they have to listen to their
language in order to speak their language, and the core part of learning another language is by
listening. According to Joan Blaska, author of The Power of Language: Speak and Write Using
Person First the language people use shows one s bias and prejudices. Beliefs and another s
performance fall under the influence of language. Blaska claimed the degree to which children are
able to perceive themselves as competent and worthy, or the opposite, is heavily influenced by the
verbalizations used by their teachers...Studies have found that labeling of students does affect
teacher expectations which in turn affects student progress . People have heavy influence with their
words, because of this, our language must be intentional in a way, that breaks down negative
stereotypes and helps one gain empathy as well as seeing others capabilities. Communicating and
reading others comments and inquiring others has helped me to accept

  • 2. The Effects Of Time In Sonnet 138 And Sir Walter Raleigh s... A Matter of Time: An analysis of the effects of time in William Shakespeare s Sonnet 138 and Sir Walter Raleigh s The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd Being a constant and unalterable force of nature, time is constant subject of renaissance poetry. While some poems have time as the main subject of their conceits, other poems such as William Shakespeare s Sonnet 138 and Sir Walter Raleigh The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd have conceits that focus on other themes, but still portray time. Sonnet 138 is a man pondering the changes of his relationship with his lover. The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd is a reply to a lover s request for her to live with him and be his love. Both poems exhibits a lover whose youth, trust, and love have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His knowledge of these nuances of life come from time: That she might think me some untutored youth, / UnlearnГЁd in the world s false subtleties (Shakespeare 3 4). In this poem tims is as a teacher, educating the lover on the futility of truly trusting someone. Therefore, time is the direct origin of his lack of trust. While he can no longer trust anyone due to the lessons of time, he has learned that trust must be conveyed. Consequently, he points out that seeming trust is an important characteristic of any relationship. Therefore, he has learned that, while trust is futile, its presence, whether actual or fabricated, is necessary for any relationship in life. Raleigh travels down a more complicated path in the relationship between trust and time. The connection between trust and Raleigh s poem is that time prevents it from existing. The Nymph states, If...truth in every shepherd s tongue, / These pretty pleasures might me move / To...be thy love, meaning that if the Shepherd was telling the truth, then she would love him (Raleigh 1 4). However, in Marlowe s poem, the peom that prompted the Nymph s reply, the shepherd truly believes that his words are truth. The disconnect between these two beliefs is closed with a simple explanation: time restricts trust. Due to the fact that time makes ideals unattainable, any promises of such never can be trusted. With this view, Raleigh again exhibits a pessimistic view of time and its effects. The main ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The US Housing Market Bubble When researching past economic recoveries, the housing market is the one to drive the economy out of recession. That being said, this economic recession hasn t had much of an impact until recently. America s housing boom had a tremendous influence on the economy for its low prices and flow of new home construction. The new construction market in the mid 2000 s was flourishing. People saw building a home as an opportunity for a solid investment because prices and rates were so low that certain homes could depreciate extremely slowly. However, there would be a negative effect from all this low cost new construction and few were aware of just how devastating it would be to the new construction market. In 2005, the market was flooded with a vast array of homes that were all selling at a low price, and this allowed people to buy and sell homes with minimal effort. Banks were being reckless with their lending, not giving enough attention to who they were giving mortgages to, as virtually anybody with a decent credit score could go to a bank and get a mortgage, sometimes without even going to see if the land and ability for development was there. This created a housing bubble in 2006, and would inevitably come back to hurt a wide range of industries, but few were as damaged as the new construction industry. Once things started to get bad, they got really bad for a lot of families who were given mortgages, who were not properly qualified. There was a major spike in defaults, with ... • 4. Symbolism In The Scarlet Ibis The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst is a realistic fiction about these two brothers, Doodle, and Doodle s brother who was the narrator of the story, many symbols are used. A symbol is a materialistic object being put in place for an abstract or complex emotion, or idea. For example the emojis you use when texting are symbols you use to express how you are feeling. In this story, Doodle is being symbolized by the Scarlet Ibis, the Scarlet Ibisis a bird and a symbolfor Doodle because of their many similarities. An example of the Scarlet Ibis symbolizing Doodle is when Hurst describes the physical health of Doodle and the Ibis. He describes Doodle as being very sick and weak at the beginning of the story by saying He seemed all head, with a tiny body which was red and shriveled like an old man s. Everybody thought he was going to die everybody except Aunt Nicey.... (Hurst page 1). Later on in the story when the Scarlet Ibis is introduced, Doodle s father describes the bird as: It looks tired, or maybe sick (Hurst page 5). By giving Doodle and the Scarlet Ibis such similar physical features, it insinuates that whatever happens to the Scarlet Ibis will more than likely happen to Doodle. Another example of the Scarlet Ibis being a symbol for Doodle is when the Scarlet Ibis dies. At that moment the bird began to flutter, but the wings were uncoordinated, and amid much flapping and a spray of flying feathers, it tumbled down, bumping through the limbs of the bleeding tree and ... • 6. Israel has a Failed State Index Score Due to the West Bank... Israel According to the US based Failed States Index (FSI), Israel ranks number 67 and is in greater danger of becoming a failed state than the likes of Congo, Cuba and Jordan. Despite Israel s booming economy, high life expectancy and low unemployment, part of the explanation for its low FSI ranking is the West Bank. According to the Fund for Peace s methodology, Israel/West Bank is considered one entity when determining its Failed States Index score. The issues Israel/ West Bank scored highest on the FIS were; external intervention (8), factionalized elites (8), human rights (8), group grievance (9.3), and refugees (8). Other sources of Israel s instability stems from the Israeli Palestinian conflict, inequality, internal breakdown and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In response to attacks Israel began building the anti terrorism fence to stop West Bank terrorists from killing Israeli citizens. Whatever analysis is put on the history, there can be no disputing that the Palestinian Territories (Gaza and the West Bank) have been occupied by Israel since the Six Day War and that this occupation has had profound implications for the development of the two occupied territories. The opposing sides have been in an almost continuous state of armed conflict. The longer the Israeli Palestinian conflict continue, the weaker Israel as a modern state will become. Regional Implications from Israel s Instability The West Bank continues to remain an occupied territory with Israel being the occupying power. Israel s policies in the West Bank have displaced a million Palestinians, forcing them into refugee status which in turn has led to a refugee influx in neighboring country, Jordan. Palestinian existence in the West Bank is being increasingly confined to ghettos cut off from farmland, schools, medical care and from other Palestinians. Some would argue that Israel s aggressive policies against Palestinians provoke terror attacks on Israeli citizens. The resort to terrorist acts by Palestinians, especially suicide bombings in crowded public places, has caused them to lose much of the international sympathy their cause would otherwise benefit from. Similarly, the cruelties of Israelis to the Palestinians, especially in the ongoing siege of Gaza, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Benefits Of Negative Visualization By Oliver Burkeman Throughout generations, people believed that having positive visualizations can make situations better, however when you are in a situation that gives you a negative outcome you become devastated. Oliver Burkeman in his essay, The Benefits of Negative Visualization discusses how negative visualization is more likely to make people happier than positive visualization. Burkeman supported that negative visualization makes an individualhappier rather than positive visualization; he supported this claim by describing how spending time and focusing on how well things would go reduces one s motivation to achieve their goal. Tranquility gives individuals the opportunity to focus on negative emotions, positive thinkers are less prepared and more acutely distressed, negative visualization causes less stress, and being prepared for the worst case scenariohelps establish what to expect. When using negative visualization, it would be beneficial to use it to prepare oneself for the worst case scenarios and to reduce both fear and anxiety. In regards to Burkeman s position, I can relate to the information he is presenting and apply it to my personal life. Therefore, I can strongly agree with his point of view that negative visualization is more likely to make an individual happier than positive visualization. (topic sentence) Before I tried out for Track and Field, I imagined myself getting a bad time running my mile, imagining how half way into the mile I would be puffing for air, my sides beginning to burn, and I would be struggling to breathe. This was something that was unnecessary for me to think about considering I would do the mile twice a week for regular physical education. When it came to throwing both the shot put and the discus I imagined myself struggling to pick up the eight pound shot put and having it roll out of my hand because my fingers were not able to stand the weight of it. How I d go pick up the discus and I d be unable to hold on to it right, even if it was similar to a Frisbee. This then led me to visualize something even more severe than not being able to throw which was throwing it backwards and making a total fool of myself. When it came to jumps, I replayed in my head over and over again ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. To My Dear And Loving Husband Comparison To my Dear and Loving Husband written by Anne Bradstreet, is the story of a woman admiring love for her husband. On the other hand, My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun written by William Shakespeare, is the story of the love a man feels for an imperfect woman. Although the two poems are about love, they interpret it in different ways through rhythmic structure, and emotional expression. To my Dear and Loving Husband has an impeccable rhythmic alignment. It starts with repeating if ever three times in the first three lines. She uses this to express her deep love for her husband and at the same time to confirm it. In the fourth line, she compares her love for her husband with the love other women have for their own husbands. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is used to connect the last part of every line. Also, the poem is mainly a satire, not a serious poem like Bradstreet s. Instead of praising his mistress, he emphasizes her imperfections and bad characteristics. On the other hand, Bradstreet only mentions the good aspects of her husband. She never says anything negative about him. From the first line to line ten, Shakespeare describes his mistress not as the typical ideal woman, but as someone ordinary. He expresses this especially in the fourth line where he uses personification to compare her hair to black wires. Some of the things he says are; that her eyes are not shiny, her lips are not red, her breast are brown instead of the perfect white, her breath odor is unpleasant and her voice is not melodious. He does this to make his poem stand out from the crowd, and also to not make it exactly as other love poems, such as Bradstreet s. He wants his poem to be more humorous and realistic. In Bradstreet s poem everything is perfect, and in reality it does not matter what relationship we are in, perfection does not exist. After he criticizes the woman in all possible ways, his poem takes a turn. From lines eleven to fourteen, he says that although she is not perfect, he has never seen somebody as beautiful as her. I grant I never saw a goddess go...And yet by heaven, I think my love as rare / as any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Paraphilia s Theory Of Sexual Deviance Sexual deviance is considered any sexual activity that is different than the normal, acceptable sexual activities of a society, but is vital for the person to experience arousal and orgasm (Sadock, 2007). The activities that are considered deviant can change over time and be different in different societies. These are also known as paraphilias. A paraphiliainvolves an extreme and continual sexual interest in children, objects, animals, materials, etc. or harming oneself or others during sexual activity. Although a person s biological makeup does have a part in some paraphilias, those who research the causes have yet to come to a conclusion on the exact reasoning behind them. It is thought that psychological factors are more the central reasoning behind these behaviors and that some event or events that occurred during childhood caused association of sexual pleasure with that event or object and a paraphilia evolved. • 10. The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara Essay The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara The major theme of the story was creating awareness in adolescents about what life has to offer. The nature of human beings of accepting the realities of life to such an extent that apathy and lethargy sets in, is what proves to be destructive for the social fabric of today s world. In this stagnation, Mrs. Moore provides the impetus required for people to realize their god given right to something better. We are told that Mrs. Moore has a college degree, is well dressed most of the times, and has a good command on her language. She seems to be a kind of a person who has seen the world. In the text the author says that And then she gets to the part about we all poor and live in the slums, which I don t feature. And I m ready to speak on that , but she steps out in the street and hails two cabs just like that. We realize that Mrs. Moore is trying to open their eyes to the world around them, when she takes them on a trip around the expensive shopping complexes of the city. As Mrs. Moore takes them through these areas, we get the distinct impression that Sylvia gets angry. She discovers a fiber glass boat that is worth a thousand dollars. Sugar touches the boat, at which she gets jealous. She does not realize at first the reason for her anger, and almost directs it at her cousin, Sugar. Yet she stops herself and realizes that she is not angry with Sugar, rather that something else is wrong. We see the first signs of comprehension in the group. From a young age she has only wanted to support herself and her family. As she grows older she begins to aspire to be something . What that something is seems unclear even to Sara. Sara is so unsure of what she hungers for that multiple points can be argued. Some may say she hungers for money because of the way her familyhas always had to scrape for pennies just to survive. Some may argue she quests for freedom because she runs away from her family. These are decent analysis but they do not dive as deep as they should. Sara s aspirations are so much more than just money to buy more clothes or just freedom from her family. Sara is an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though Bessie earned him the biggest wages on her own she still is not seen as having optimal use without a man. When she refuses to marry Zalmon father angrily says, So this is the thanks for all I ve done for you (98). It says in the Torah: What s a woman without a man? Less than nothing a blotted out existence. No life on earth and no hope in heaven (205). • 13. Relationship Between Child Support And Child Relationship Parent to Child Relationship Analyzed by Child Support and Disconnection I am writing about the topic of how child support can affect the relationship a parent feels towards their child. In a sense that it can make the parent feel as if the child is an expense. As something they have to constantly keep up with like a phone bill or water bill. I chose this topic because I feel that there is a disconnection between parents that are required to pay child support toward their child. Those parents paying child support in most instances are only allowed to see their child for a certain period of time. That being a weekend or every other weekend. If not at all in the most extreme cases. This disconnection in turn can lead to a broken relationship between the parent and the child. The parent is seen as a negative figure by the child whereas the parent sees the child as an expense. Which can lead to other negative impacts between the family. The parent with full custody or majority custody is a better able to raise the child and instill negative feelings about the other parent into the child. What is significant and interesting about this particular field of inquiry that this is constantly happening in modern time. As seen through high levels of divorce, custody battles, and parents that are required to pay child support on a monthly basis. At times the other parent with majority custody can even be better off as they are receiving another check while the parent required to pay child support is at times struggling to get by. Needless to say that the parent required to pay child support is at fault and put themselves in the situation in the first place. The challenges I expect to face while researching are unscholarly resources in which frustrated parents post on online websites. Even though these experiences may be first hand insights they are most likely posted to unscholarly websites which cannot be used for this essay. A possible thesis is, child support leads to a broken relationship between a parent and a child with the cause of future disconnection. The research question being, Does child support make a parent feel like their child is an expense that leads to disconnection? With many answers surrounding this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These simple chemicals are the building blocks of life, and act as the blueprints for one of the most complicated biological structures in the known universe; the human. Strands of these chromosomes billions of letters long provide a uniqueness that guarantees individuality in a swiftly growing world. Cloning cannot be tolerated in society anywhere, not because of the ramifications on the individual countries and their cultures, but more importantly because of the mental state that a clone would inevitably have to cope with. The ability to clone humans is in essence the ability to steal a piece of someone s individuality, which we have already closely associated as being a prime evil. The ancient philosopher Rene Descartes stated That in order to understand the passions of the soul its functions must be distinguished from those of the body (Hallman, 40). That is, the soul and body must have distinctions, and this I agree with for the sake of understanding the mechanics and interactions of the two. However after this has been established the line must be drawn. George Johnson, believes that each person, whether they be a clone or not, should understandably have his own soul created by the composition of previous thoughts and experiences (Nussbaum, Sunstein 69). The example we are provided with references the unique nature of twins. According to this reasoning, twins grow up together, composed of the same genetic makeup, but because of personal experiences result in different persons (69). If this truly is the case then cloning does not accomplish what it is intended for in the first place. Likewise he argues, clones who share exact genome matches will also become different people as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Education System Of The American School System Against School In a progressively more globalized world that necessitates more effective educational practices, the U.S., once the biggest global force in education, has seen its dominance slowly slip out, and its educational status fall even lower than that of several third world countries. The decline experienced in American school system academic achievement is not as a result of lack of funding, but as a consequence of the overall educational system watering down. According to Gatto, educating children through the existing public school system of America is crippling rather than helping them. From his essay, Against School, it is established that the goal of the whole public school system is to limit people s intelligence in an attempt to create a society that is manageable. Gatto continues to state that action is needed to change this situation. He supports his assertions using current and historical information about the American school system and his personal experience. After reading his article, one realizes that most of Gatto s arguments are true. It is true that the American education system is making the students comfort to the government and society norms, which is why they are easily bored. To begin with, Gatto utilizes historical information to question the need for getting an education using the American public school system. However, in William Shakespeare s, A Midsummer Night s Dream, the author develops the traditional representation of a gendered sun and moon further, in order to symbolize the two celestial bodies, now, as masculine and feminine oppositions. More specifically, Shakespeare expands on the traditional idea of the sun and moonas a gender concept by identifying both as a union, and the relationships that solidify these bonds, in which he delineates the opposition of romance to the opposition of the sun and moon; in its destructive and regenerative aspect, the moon accompanies the resolution of the conflicts, that is, the infidelity between lovers, and shed its light over a return to individual and social order. As a result, the function of moon imagery shift according to the lunar cycle (old and new phases), which subsequently, creates the play s themes of dreamscape, female bodily change and chastity, and most importantly, the romance and infidelities experienced in a relationship. Psychologically, A Midsummer Night s Dream, starts in the light of day, symbolizing consciousness, and descends into the depths of the unconscious, moonless night. The rural economy was hit hard by the Great Depression of the 1930s, in which an overproduction of agricultural goods lead to massive falling prices for China as well as an increase in foreign imports (as agricultural goods produced in ... What Is The Relationship Between Gilgamesh And Enkidu The Epic of Gilgamesh The Epic of Gilgamesh is an Epic poem coined from the ancient Mesopotamia, and it is regarded as one of the earliest surviving literary pieces. This poem is closely connected to history as it tries to explain to the audience on the origin of the people of Mesopotamia. The relationship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu as well as the ways the two view each other forms very central aspects in this poem. Enkidu is depicted as half man and half beast. Gilgamesh is regarded as the central symbol of the natural and the uncivilized world. • 31. Approaches to Administration and Total Quality Management Approaches to Administration Total Quality Management Approaches to Administration To some extent I have had experiences with each of these approaches to administration over the course of my working career; however I have had the greatest exposure to the classical and the human relations approaches. Of these the classical approach has been the most common. Many of the organizations I have been associated with were organized around a formal organizational structure with specific rules and expectations concerning procedures and processes. The organizational hierarchy was well defined. According to Willis W. Harman (2001) people who lack self motivation fit compliantly into this type of organizational management structure. However, a growing fraction of the population, displaying self actualization tendencies are bothered by the oppressiveness of hierarchical management and are insistent on a more participatory role. Human relation approaches require decisions to be made with the maximum feasible involvement of those whose lives are affected by the outcome. This form of organizational management calls for the enhancement of humanistic values such as trust, honesty, cooperation, caring and personal responsibility to develop personal relationships. Harmon (2001) says that initially the human relation approach may seem to be inefficient, but ultimately it tends to raise moral, raise the sense of being involved with meaningful work, boost individual incentive, improve ... The Japanese are close and united, and willing to help each other, to the point that they would even risk their lives for one another. Their culture has certain aspects of it that every nation should have. In his book, John Hersey explores the effects that culture and environment have on an individual s views and belief through analyzing a stereotypical Japanese man, an Americanized Japanese priest, and a widowed Japanese woman and how they react similarly to the bombing of Hiroshima. The influence of Japanese culture has an astounding impact on the reactions of Hersey s characters. Throughout his writing, Hersey s story reveals the effects of the Japanese culture on the people after the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. After the bomb was dropped, it was not everyone for themselves but rather, the opposite. People came together to help the wounded, and since so many were hurt and there wasn t enough first responders, everyone was willing to help one another. This wasdue to the Japanese culture and how close it makes everyone. Unlike Americans, the Japanese are not selfish. Varley Pride wrote about the pride the Japanese culture brings book, Japanese Culture. No paper work to sign, no hand receipt; just a dog, a crate, a muzzle, and some medical records. Not even a list of commands Bak could follow. As was stated before, MWDs are equipment by military standards and the army will do the absolute minimum to insure they can continue to work. Over the next three months the family spent almost five thousand dollars to determine what the extent of Baks service injuries were, what allergies he suffered from, and what type of food he could eat. The tail issue turned out to be in his medical records. He had suffered from what is called happy tail. MWDs unlike the K9 police dogs used by civilians do not go home with the handler at the end of shift. They live in an 8 foot by 10 foot concrete kennel when not on duty. Happy tail is the result of continued slamming of the tail against the walls while wagging that result in open sores that do not heal. In Baks case it was so severe that the Veterinarian decided to just remove the tail. Unfortunately for Bak the Veterinarian removed the tail to close to the hips resulting in him having a difficult time completely expressing his feces. This point of view has been exemplified in many literary works by creating a male dominant society. In A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens, the female characters unlike the male, are all created as if to say that women are not capable of being well rounded people. One can spend pages and pages outlining the aspects of the world that Idoru covers; every little point begs to be interperated, and as there is such a wealth of infomation, ideas, and typographic references to modern culture, a mass of isomorphisms which reach out to one, this book is, to me, personally at least, bordering on revolutionary. Idoru is however, not a work of classic liturature, and doesnt share much with its classical literary counterparts (Brave new world for example), but as a work on its own, within its own genre it is certainly one of the finest. Perhaps in this analysis, one should consider the usual analytical tools (plot, structure, characterisation etc), aswell as how this book could help us in predicting a (considerably less dark) vision of the future, not to mention what it is about this book that inspires one so much. As previously mentioned, this novels plot is somewhat complicated this however does not detract from the overall flow of the book in a sense, the density of infomation and detail we are faced with when reading, acts as a mechanism to allow us to live the moment in the novel a citizen in an infomtion dense society would be faced with so many details on a daily basis, it ... • 52. Essay on Nursing Care Plan Pathophysiology Patient: M.H. 80 year old female experiencing renal failure. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a disease that is described as a loss of kidney function gradually over time. As kidney function decreases, the waste collection in the body s blood becomes high and makes the individual feel sick. This disease can lead to other complications in the body such as anemia, poor nutritional health, high blood pressure, and nerve damage. These complications will begin to progress and show as CKD progresses to advanced stages. Early detection of this disease is essential when it comes to treatment. If CKD is diagnosed early enough the disease progression can be slowed down and managed. This disease will eventually lead to failure of the kidneys ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The amount of filtration done by the kidneys will obviously cause negative effects throughout the body if they are not functioning properly. CKD will cause the body to retain many excess fluids and waste that are normally filtered out to prevent internal harm throughout the body. With kidney disease there will be a rise in blood pressure due to the amount of extra fluid that is retained in the blood vessels. This fluid retention will cause the passageways to become narrow and make blood passage through the vessels increasingly difficult, in turn causing an increase in blood pressure. There will also be an increase in protein and blood found in the urine because it is not filtered out properly by the kidneys. Swelling will occur in the extremities and around the eyes because of the fluid retention as well. The longer the urine goes unfiltered the harder it may become to urinate due to pain or blockage or there may be more frequent night time urination (The National Kidney Foundation, 12). There are also a few tests that will show whether or not the kidneys are filtering the body s fluids as they should. A simple urinalysis can be done to detect protein or blood in the urine. This will alert the medical professionals to a possible problem with the proper functioning of the kidneys. There are also Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) tests that will measure the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Style Elements And Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron Style Elements and Harrison Bergeron It is quite difficult to detail a dystopian future without thinking about the variables. What time period shall it be? What new laws will be enacted to cause the dystopia? How will the characters be portrayed, and what shall be their challenges? These variables would be enough to repel authors from this topic, but one author managed to perfectly describe a dystopian future with his short piece, Harrison Bergeron. This short story, written by Kurt Vonnegut, has been renowned for showing an almost perfect dystopia. Through the use of stylistic elements such as diction, imagery, and details, Vonnegut reveals a grim tone, where even if good tries to prevail, it will be stopped and forgotten. In Harrison ... • 54. Personal Philosophy Reflection Paper For the past six weeks, I learned how philosophy has influenced the world globally. Learning that when human beings voice their thoughts with others, they receive a chance to change the world, especially if one person speaks one on one, one personage can change the world of one body. My belief in the power of language is strengthened by philosophy. This philosophy course has encouraged me to share my opinions that are not influenced by other peers or older adults, but to deeply reflect and research my beliefs and opinions. Looking at how philosophy has shaped the United States, I grant my thankfulness towards the Constitution, and the democracy and freedom we now have, compared to other countries. My views of electronics have changed, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before philosophy my views would have leaned a little bit more towards a socialist country, but now I gratitude freedom in hard work, education, speech, etc. From my readings to research from Edutopia to literature courses, I have gained a deeper appreciation for language. In order to understand what one is speaking, a person needs to spend time listening to one s language and before responding must reflect and analyze what the other said and how to respond. If a person wants to love another person they have to listen to their language in order to speak their language, and the core part of learning another language is by listening. According to Joan Blaska, author of The Power of Language: Speak and Write Using Person First the language people use shows one s bias and prejudices. Beliefs and another s performance fall under the influence of language. Blaska claimed the degree to which children are able to perceive themselves as competent and worthy, or the opposite, is heavily influenced by the verbalizations used by their teachers...Studies have found that labeling of students does affect teacher expectations which in turn affects student progress . People have heavy influence with their words, because of this, our language must be intentional in a way, that breaks down negative stereotypes and helps one gain empathy as well as seeing others capabilities. Communicating and reading others comments and inquiring others has helped me to accept ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
