Museum Field Trips to National Gallery of Art (NGA) and...
The two sites that I have chosen to compare are the National Gallery of Art (NGA) and The
Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met). The reason I chose these specific sites was the first images I
saw which made me want to explore the webpages. I will be comparing the visual quality of the
homepage, pictures, text, and content along with the overall quality of the two sites. I will go into
detail about the differences and which site, in my opinion, would be more enjoyable based on their
website. Upon first glance of their homepages, the two sites look completely different in style. When
The Metropolitan Museum homepage loaded, I was in awe of the bold image of a man s face covered
with ink art. It was eye catching at first, but then I noticed there was no other graphics or pictures on
the homepage. The one slide show picture did not even fill the screen from side to side either. It left a
kind of boring, bland feeling with me. Then I clicked on the link for the National Gallery of Art
homepage. As this site loaded, it filled the computer screen with side to side full color. The
background was a beautiful picture of an elegant cathedral like building. In the middle of this eye
catching background was a slide menu where each group had its very own beautiful picture. Another
refreshing feature is that the background image changes often so that each time I visited it is was a
different background image. Although the menu pictures were not as large as The Metropolitan

Personal Statement On The Field
When I was on a softball team a few years ago, me and my teammates would communicate through
the essentials of communication which are process, meaning, and symbolic communication both on
and off the baseball field. In example, when we are on the field, we communicate in procedural ways
in order to reach a goal. We were engaging in action when we were practicing and using our
knowledge when implementing a strategic plan on how we would play the different opponents we
faced especially in crucial games. My teammates were all different races so we all had different
cultural backgrounds. There were people on my team who were of American, African American,
Asian, Lebanese, Puerto Rican, and Dominican descent. Therefore, my language was constantly
changing when communicating between my Hispanic and American teammates. Our interpersonal
competence and determination to win depicted the outcome of our games. However, most of us shared
the same desire and effort in helping each other learn and grow with the team.
Before our games would begin, some teammates practiced different ways based on their cultural roots.
For instance, some Dominican teammates would practice their hitting skills by playing a game that is
popular in their country. The game consisted of a long thin stick longer than a bat and thinner than a
ruler. The balls that was used to pitch to the hitter was the shape of a hockey puck only smaller and
thinner. This technique is mainly used to improve hitting skills and

Basic Forms Of Business Organization
Three basic forms of business organization are sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation. Sole
proprietorship is the simplest form of business organization in which there is only one owner
(Cheeseman, 2015, p. 570). Single person is responsible for all debts, liabilities, and obligations, as
well as unlimited liability for business operations. If the owner is unsuccessful and acquires debt,
creditors can pursue legal action and acquire access to personal bank accounts, real estate, and other
assets by the court order to repay person s debt obligations. Owners of sole proprietorships cannot
raise capital by selling shares that represent stakeholder interest in the business. The owner reports all
income and expenses in personal tax return. The business terminates upon withdrawal or an owner s
death. The owner can sell the business and by doing so, will lose the ownership. Advantages of sole
proprietorship include freedom of decisions, tax breaks, ease to start, ownership of all profits, being
taxed once as a personal income of the owner, and lack of government compliance. Disadvantages of
sole proprietorship include unlimited liability, very limited sources of production, and difficulty to
raise capital. According to Cheeseman (2015), general partnership is an association of two or more
persons to carry on as co owners of a business for profit (p. 572). The rights and duties of partners are
established in the partnership agreement and by law such as Uniform

The Challenges In The Case Of Tata Motors
Ratan Tata initiated and proposed to produce and deliver a passenger car at the Annual General
Meeting but his ideas were taken immaterial by industry experts at that point of time. His strong
determination and vision helped to complete Indica s project successfully.
Tata Motors faced many challenges in the process of moving to produce passenger cars from
producing commercial vehicles. They are as follows:
The industry benchmark for entry level cars was Maruti 800. Tata Motors without compromising with
quality have to develop a car with more spacious and cheaper than Maruti 800.
The degree of competition was very high. Fiat India had launched Uno, Hyundai had launched Santro,
Daewoo Motor had launched Matiz in small cars segment due to ... Show more content on

Outsourcing 80 % of the value of Indica from 200 odd vendors. As if the Tata Motors would produced
the products of their own it would incur high cost and difficult to compete in the market. After the
materials outsourced were received it were assembled.
Forming new alliances in order to save resources as well as reduce cost of manufacturing. Due to
formation of new alliances the lead time for manufacturing were also reduced as most of the materials
were outsourced.
Just in Time approach Tata Motors had maintained the inventory levels. They applied just in time
inventory. It helped to keep inventory levels low which reduces the costs too.
Tata group also invested in companies like TACO, this is an example of overcoming the competition.

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Qualitative Research...
A research paradigm is a way of observing the world. It is composed of certain philosophical
assumptions that guide and direct action and thinking. Traditional the main worldviews and paradigms
that are presented as being fundamentally opposed are positivism/postpositivism and
constructivism/interpretivism (Creswell Plano Clark, 2007; Morgan, 2007). Mixed methods research
has been addressed as a response to the ongoing debates discussing the advantages and disadvantages
of qualitative versus quantitative research as a result of the paradigm battle.
The positivist notion is that a singular reality and only one truth that are out there waiting to be
objectively and value free discovered which underpins quantitative research methods. In contrast ...

Using a paradigm this way relates it directly to research as an epistemological position (Morgan,
2007). In this way a paradigm guides research efforts and the exclusion of other paradigms (Kuhn,
1962). Consequently, from the subjective multiplicity of interpretivism over the contextualized causal
understanding of realism to the objective and measurable reality of positivism, paradigms could be
construed as dogmatic and as requiring particular research methods and even excluding others (Greene
et al., 2001). Kuhn (1962) noted that in that sense, a paradigm could restrict academic creativity and
curiosity, and even blind researchers to aspects of new phenomena and theories, thus limiting the
imagination (Mills, 1959). Even if not verbalized or made explicit, research questions reflects the
researcher s epistemological understanding of the world. Also, any interpretation of findings will show
the researchers underlying philosophies drawing on and extending the notion that all knowledge is
knowledge from some point of view (Fishman, 1978; Mounce, 1997). Most notable when regarding
pragmatism as an alternate paradigm is that it evades the argumentative issues of truth and reality.
Pragmatism accepts, in a philosophical stance, that there are both single and multiple realities exposed
to empirical investigation, thus, positioning itself toward practical problem solving in the real world
(Dewey, 1925; Rorty, 1999; Creswell Plano Clark, 2007). This allows the researcher to be free of
practical and conceptual constrictions imposed by the forced choice duality between positivism and
constructivism (Creswell Plano Clark, 2007), leaving the researchers outside the prison of a particular
research method or technique (Robson, 1993). The quantifiable world relates more closely to
existentialism in the pragmatists

The Invention Of Printing Press
In 1440, for too many people was the year of change in the global communication. It was during this
time in Mainz, Germany that a goldsmith s Johannes Gutenberg created one of the most important
machines during the modern period: the printing press. The printing press was inspired by earlier uses
found in China and Japan as early as the 7th century. In this time the way to print was using the
method of block printing, which was a piece of wood used to print a specific piece of text. ( Patterns

With the Gutenberg invention the revolution had begun. It advanced the process of movable type
further, and started a new era of printing called typography. The typography allowed information to

Templates that were used on every page to create a mass production and look like a single work. (
User Interface )
The templates are essential in mobile design. It helps to the designer to create layouts based on
cultural norms of reading and how people process information. The templates that are used across a
product, on most every page of a website or application, we call a wrapper because they enclose (wrap
around) all the other components and the content. Also there are some patterns based on how the
human mind processes pattern, objects, and information. ( User Interface )
Scroll bars when information on a page exceeds the viewport, a scroll bar control may be required to
access the additional information. Scrolling of information should almost always occur along one axis,
except in rare cases. ( Patterns for )
The problem can be more information in the page or element than can fit in the viewport. You have to
provide a method to access this information.
The solution for mobiles will be to display them to indicate the scrollable axes, and the relative
position within the scrollable area.
Whenever possible, you should make sure scrolling takes place on a single axis. This is why the whole
set of patterns based around vertical scroll exist. When the situation demands, such as for zooming in
to content which otherwise fits the area, you can also offer a secondary scroll axis. Keep the secondary
axis in mind throughout the design process because

Alice s Journey to Find Her Identity
Lewis Carroll s Alice s Adventures in Wonderland is a story of a young girl s journey down the rabbit
hole into a fantasy world where there seems to be no logic. Throughout Alice s Adventures in
Wonderland, Alice experiences a variety of bizarre physical changes, causing her to realize she is not
only trying to figure out Wonderland but also trying to determine her own identity. After Alice arrives
in Wonderland the narrator states, For this curious child was very fond of pretending to be two people
(Lewis Carroll, Alice s Adventures in Wonderland 12). This quotation is the first instance that shows
Alice is unsure of her identity. The changes in size that take place when she eats or drinks are the
physical signs of her loss of identity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the moment she sees the White Rabbit taking his watch from his waistcoat pocket, Alice tries to
understand the logic of Wonderland. None of the rules that she has been taught seem to apply in
Wonderland. The characters in Wonderland have no sense of manners and respond to her questions
with answers that make no sense. For example, the Mad Hatter asks the questions, Why is a raven like
a writing desk? (Alice 51). Alice assumes he is asking a riddle and she begins to try to answer it,
thinking the Hatter would not ask a riddle without knowing the answer. When Alice is unable to figure
out the riddle, the Hatter explains that there is no answer. He does not explain why he asked the riddle,
he simply says, I haven t the slightest idea (Alice 53). In which Alice replies, I think you might do
something better with the time, than waste it in asking riddles that have no answers (Alice 53). The
Hatter then responds with a lecture on Time, which he depicts as a person. Time being depicted as a
person makes no logical sense to Alice. In the end, Alice rebels during the trial scene when the King
said Rule Forty two. All persons more than a mile high to leave the court (Alice 88). Alice objects to
the absurd nature of the trial saying, Who cares for you? You re nothing but a pack of cards! (Alice
91). This final scene is the end of her dream, and she wakes up with her head in her sister s lap.

Technology Addiction To Technology
When we think of addictions we tend to think about drugs, alcohol, and other negative addictions, but
my parents are addicted to technology. It all started in 2013 when they got their new samsung galaxies
and ever since they became technology savvy and tend to show me new things they learned on their
new devices. When my mother discovered how to screenshot she said Hey Tre look what I did! I
replied Ok. Than she answered back with I learned how to screenshot! All I could do is burst into
laughter and she sat there with a confused faced but yet still eagered she achieved such a difficult task.
Their addiction to technology isn t a negative addiction yet, I see it as a humorous addiction and not as
serious. The very first time we got internet my parents were so confused on how to fix the wifi and
even make a password for the wifi. Every time the wifi was down I would turn it off and back on and
it worked like magic. They saw it as if i ve been working for comcast for my whole lifetime. Now
they are Laptops and learning how to use Google. The very first stage of their addiction to technology
is when they connected our desktop to the wifi and created a facebook. At first I saw it as an innocent
act just to be up to date with modern technology, but little did I know it would turn into an issue. They
would be on Facebook at all times of hours and when I logged into my Facebook I would have 100
plus notifications from my parents alone. They would tag me in memes, videos,

The Horror Of The Zombies
The zombies are used to represent the mass panic of a containable situation, and the government is
portrayed as safe keepers of people, but also critiquing the government s actual response time and
effectiveness to situations. Both the story and the movie utilize zombies as a substitution for a more
real and occurring matter. The nationwide panic that is represented through a zombie apocalypse can
be interpreted as a problem that the country is facing or may have faced before. The fact the most

A zombie will kill if able. Given zombies, according to Sims were never not hungry (52), they didn t
rush to an opportunity. Sims describes a scene where Michael essentially has a stare down with a
jogger zombie. He says the zombie was facing his direction, but was lacking life. The zombies have an
unquenchable thirst for meat, flesh, and brains yet do not act upon their desire. Maybe, due to decay,
the eye sight of the zombie has decreased significantly along with its other senses. Or, once
zombiefied it no longer even use the senses. The zombies may altogether gain new and different
senses, and rely heavily upon those to tell what is around them. Either way, the awareness of a zombie
is significantly lower than a living human, but still dangerous none the less. The Night of the Living
Dead zombies are seen as pretty slow, but may be more aware. Night of the Living Dead zombies
utilized tools and were persistent. The first zombie that ap pears in the movie seemed to be the most
aggressive one. He wrestles the guy to the ground and runs after the girl. After she locks herself in the
car he first tries the door handle on both sides of the car. Figuring out that that didn t work he got a
rock and broke the window. His level of un derstanding had far surpassed that of the zombies in A
Questionable Shape. Also, the daughter of the wife and husband picked up a trowel to stab her mother

General Idi Amin Dada And The Act Of Killing
In both documentaries, General Idi Amin Dada and The Act of Killing, the authors spent a
considerable amount of time with the perpetrators of mass murder. In The Act of Killing Joshua
Oppenheimer gets access to the executioners, gangsters and paramilitary leaders who carried out
millions of mass killings. In General Idi Amin, Barbet Schroeder spent time with the third Ugandan
President and one of the greatest mass murderers, Idi Amin Dada. Schroeder was able to document his
firsthand account of events. These documentaries demonstrate the kind of extraordinary access the
authors were given and their ability to document the unspeakably painful truth.
In both documentaries, the perpetrators seem to have the impression that they are in control of the
documentary. For instance, in The Act of Killing, the executioners set up every scene playing as
victim and perpetrators, and even going as far as hiring other locals to play as victims. They acted as if
they were the producers of the film by creating the conditions, like choosing costumes, applying
makeup, and setting up the villages to burn them down. Throughout the documentary, the executioners
directed the content and edited the scenes. Likewise, Anwar Congo, one of the most brutal
executioner, took the responsibility of sitting in the director s chair. He exclaimed that it is important
to tell the story of the killings in a step by step process. This shows how the author is skillfully

Many of these individuals had been baptized as infants, but chose to be baptized again as believing

I chose to do my project on Marie Curie, the woman who discovered radium and polonium. She was
born Mary Sklodowska on November 7, 1867 in Warsaw, Poland and died July 4, 1934 in Passy,
France at the age of 67. In 1895, Marie married a professor named Pierre Curie at the age of 26. She
was the first woman to complete a doctorate in France in MMMM at the age xxx. And in MMMMM,
Curie was also the first female professor at the Sorbonne. She was the first person to use the term

Marie was fascinated with the work of Henri Becquerel the French physicist that discovered uranium
which emits rays weaker than the x rays found by Wilhelm Roentgen.
This is what led Curie to take Becquerel s work a few steps further and conduct her own experiments
on uranium rays. She discovered that the rays were constant no matter what form or condition of the
uranium. She theorized the rays came from the atomic structure. This idea was revolutionary and
created its own field in science, known as the atomic physics, this is when Marie coined the word
radioactivity to describe the phenomena. Even when they had their first daughter Irene in 1897 there
work did not slow. Pierre then stopped his own studies to help Marie with her new discovery of
radioactivity. In 1898 they discovered a new radioactive element. They named it polonium after Marie
s native country, Poland. They detected the presence of another radioactive element and called this
radium. In 1902 they had extracted pure radium to prove its existence as a unique chemical element.
Marie curie made history in 1903 when she became the first woman to get a Nobel Prize in physics.
With their prize winning the Curie s got an international reputation for their scientific efforts. With the
prize money they continued their research and went even further. The next year in 1904, they had their

Anticipation is the principal that enables Army logisticians to foresee future events in a current

Arguments Against The Exclusionary Rule
In the United States, there have been rules established to protect its citizens. One such rule, the
exclusionary rule was put in place to do just that. A legal rule, which is derived from constitutional
law, this rule protects citizens by preventing evidence to be presented at trial that was obtained while
violating the defendants Fourth Amendment rights. The Fourth Amendment protects citizens against
illegal search and seizure, therefore any evidence that is collected by law enforcement illegal will not
be admissible in court the court of law. The exclusionary rule is frequently used in the American
courts to suppress evidence collected by law enforcement. One such case in 1913, was Weeks vs The
United States. In this case, law enforcement used a key to enter Weeks home after suspected him using
the postal system to transport lottery tickets. Police collected all the needed documents to have Weeks
indicted and found guilty. Filing an appeal, Weeks argued that all articles collected and used as
evidence against him should have been suppressed, due to the fact it was collected in violation of his
4th amendment. Having reached the Supreme Court, it was ruled unanimously that the evidence had

court. This could possibly result in the defendant walking free. Secondly, another supporting argument
is that the exclusionary rule upholds the Fourth Amendment. This rule protects citizens constitutional
right to be protected from illegal search and seizure, and causes law enforcement to operate within the

Restaurant Seasonality Essay
Seasonality of the Restaurant Industry: Friend or Foe? The restaurant industry can be a fickle friend.
Business trends directly with the economy and is linked with a dizzying amount of other factors,
enough to make any manager go crazy. Yet at the same time the industry is lucrative and therefore
enticing. The industry has been a contributing factor in the slow recovery from economic recession
and is showing growth in sales (Stensson, 2011). Specifically, the fast food industry if projected to
grow at a slightly higher rate of 3.3% over that of the full service industry at 3.1% (Stensson, 2011).
With expanding sales comes higher demand and restaurant jobs are estimated to rise by 1.3 million
positions by 2021 (Stensson, 2011). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Funding the tourist season faculty can be fickle as well. Many restaurants that rely on snow or sun for
the tourist crowd must close down in the off season while still paying the fixed costs associated with
restaurant ownership like rent and utilities (Brumback, 2000). Though tourism in the U.S. is on the
rise in 2011 and 2012 it has a direct link to weather trends and when $1 of every $3 spent in the
restaurant industry, according to the National Restaurant Association, is tourism related the reliance on
weather can be huge (Elan, 2011). Obviously restaurants have been able to weather the seasons of
food service seasonality. It is not a new topic but a continuous challenge which must be addressed,
met, and overcome. But how? Over the years owners and managers alike have tried several angles in
combating seasonal lulls and drops in business. There are five basic areas that seem to have the most
success: seasonal marketing, seasonal menus, seasonal posturing, using holidays or seasonal peaks as
targeting opportunity, and brand or business loyalty. When a corporation recognizes where the
seasonal weak points in business are during the year it can use promotions and strategic marketing to
even out inconsistencies in sales. Seasonal menus can be twofold assets due to current customer
demands as well as cheaper cost of production. Seasonal posturing refers to being prepared for high

Ernest Hemingway s Life And Accomplishments
Ernest William Hemingway was born 1899 in the suburbs of Illinois. Hemingway had a good
relationship with his family. They were so encouraging that he became a singer and musician. With a
rich background he pursued anything that interested him from football to literature. Hemingway tried
to participate in the army but he ended up volunteering for the Red Cross traveling to Europe and
Italy. Married and then divorced in 1929 he dedicated his life to writing and continued the journey
around the world to provide himself with material for his upcoming works. Katherine Anne Porter was
born in 1889 in Texas, like Hemingway porters parents were very educated, however they were not
rich. Porters family had a traumatic event when her mother died in 1982, deeply affected her. She also
became a musician and educator. However, her life was filled with disappointments; her rocky
marriages, and unsuccessful attempts in movies. Porter became unhappy and in 1913 she devoted
herself to the literature and became a journalist. She traveled mostly to Mexico and encouraged the
folk art of the locals. Even though the middle of her life was unsuccessful she was later appointed
chair of poetry and literature at the Library of Congress. Both stories were inspired by the places that
writers went the most, Porter s Flowering Judas is set in Mexico and Hemingway s Big Two Hearted

Argument Against Higher Order Theories Of Consciousness
Dretske s quick argument against higher order theories of consciousness Students Name Institutional

theories of consciousness directly state that thoughts, perceptions, and beliefs follow the first mental
orders that that connect to personal consciousness. Mostly, the perception of something such as visible
images represents the initial thought of phenomenal consciousness. The higher order of theories of
consciousness seeks to elaborate the distinct characteristics of consciousness between the
consciousness of a particular state of a question and a representation of a higher order thought and
believe of the same subject state (Carruthers, 2016). The phenomenal consciousness consists
distinctive characteristics that are challenging to explain in the higher orders theories. The subjective
components include properties are challenging since the subjective aspects involve feelings and
personal process to undergo through their mind. According to the higher order theory of
consciousness, the mental feeling, thoughts, and perception people have in life consciously occur but
not always since people sometimes sense things subliminally hence independent in people

since there are issues that arise in clarifying the difference conscious mental state and those that

William Blake Diction
In The Chimney Sweeper, William Blake uses innocent and accusatory tones to illustrate the truth and
ignorance of the children s role in society. Blake uses simplistic and allusive diction, as well as
concrete imagery to convey the corruption of innocence experienced by both of the speakers in the
poems. The poems reveal the injustice children felt at the hands of society and the children s blissful
innocence under harsh conditions. Blake employs simplistic and allusive diction to portray the
innocent nature of the children. The simplicity of a child s experience is exemplified through Blake s
usage of cry , laughing , and fear which illustrate universal emotions felt by many. In addition, Blake
uses allusive language through examples like Angel , God , and heaven. The reference to the heavens
in the first poem functions to evoke feelings of goodness, which goes along with the dream like
qualities of the poem, aiding in constructing the image of an innocent child. In the second poem,
however, the focus on the oppression and structure connotes the dynamic of the destruction of a child
s innocence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example in the first poem, the speaker states, soot cannot spoil your white hair and juxtaposes
coffins of black with shine in the sun to display the naïve nature of children despite the evident
corruption occurring in the atmosphere around them. Similarly in the second poem, the speaker
juxtaposes winter s snow to clothes of death and heaven of our misery to actively describe the burden
of child labor. In addition, the first paragraph has a more positive outlook on life as a dream occurs in
which they are set free and a wash in a river which symbolizes their renewal and their blindness
towards the cruelty of the forced child labor. However in the second poem, the speaker is critical and
judges the children s misery while their families are

Chip Cards And Magnetic Stripe Cards
Chip Cards V.S. Magnetic Stripe Cards Nowadays, the use of cards is becoming more and more
frequent because of its convenience. And the technology provides the way to make cards become
more practical. Two most common types of cards that people use are chip cards and magnetic cards.
Both chip cards and magnetic stripe cards are broadly used all over the world in diverse areas of
people s life. However, chip cards and magnetic stripe cards are different from the security, function,
and the process of the transaction. The first difference between chip cards and magnetic stripe cards is
the security of the cards. Due to people put the data into the cards, the security of the cards is a serious
factor of the cards. Once the security is not reasonable that the data leaks out, the owner of the card
will suffer a large loss. The data includes the profile of a person, like the home and work addresses,
the phone number, and the most important element is the money that is in the credit cards and debit
cards. Basically, people pay the greatest attention to whether the money in the card is safe or not. Chip
card has high standard on the security. It is difficult to clone the information of the cards. And by now,
there are no examples of cloning the information on chip cards. According to one of the authorized
bank Chase, a chip provides an extra status of security to cards. It needs to produce one time code to

Symbolism In The Mermaid Chair, By Sue Monk Kidd
Abstract Island is an emblem of both remoteness and nirvana in both East and West. In the East, to the
Buddha, island is a positive symbol of revitalization in the core of the ocean of Samsara. In
Commonwealth feminist writers such as Anita Desai and Sue Monk Kidd, the island becomes a
metaphor for a woman s quest for freedom and identity. The Mermaid Chair is a vividly imagined
novel about the spirit and the ecstasies of the body; one that illuminates a woman s self awakening
with the brilliant and power that only a writer of Kidd s ability could conjure. An island is a land mass
that is often smaller than a continent. An island is normally surrounded by water completely. Egret
island is a thin place, in the Celtic sense of the phrase, a place where the visible reality of everyday
life and the invisible reality of the sacred interest, where mighty forces work mysteriously to bring
about transformation. The main conflict in The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd is the mental and
physical illness of Jessie Sullivan s the main character, one of those unambiguous women with no
desire to disturb the universe. Jessie stands at the bow of a ferry, looking across Bull s Bay towards

Counseling And Christian Perspective On Counseling
Counseling and Christian Perspective Studying psychology and philosophy has made me ask many
questions. By what principles do people make decisions? What drives us? Where do emotions come
from? Are there such things as unconscious motives and thoughts or are those ideas nothing more than
the clever and profitable figment of psychologists imagination? However, the main question I
struggled with is who we are and how we operate? Counseling is seen as a very solution focused
approach. The temptation to rush quickly to the end of the mystery novel must be resisted. The
detective s clever conclusions cannot be fully appreciated without first understanding the complexities
of the tangle he unravels. The same principle applies here: an adequate appreciation of solutions
depends on an adequate understanding of people and their problems. The Christian community and
secular communities are overrun with ideas about wholeness and growth. The solution of Calvary, for
example, is only valued too the degree that the problem of sin is grasped. If we skip the hard and
sometimes tedious work of figuring out who we are and why we struggle so much, then our efforts as
counselors to help others will be shallow and, in the long run, unhelpful. The relationship between
Christianity and Counseling Trust and obey, for there s no other way to be happy in Jesus. Could it
really be as simple as the hymn suggests? This sort of thinking sounds very hopelessly naive and
dangerously superficial. If

I am going to study three love poems. The first one is called First Love by John Clare
How does poet s writing before 1900 use language to write about different types of love? Consider
three love poems, two of which must be by the same poet.
In this piece of coursework I am going to study three love poems. The first one is called First Love by
John Clare; this poem is a very simple, sweet poem about a mans first love of his life. The second is
called My Last Duchess by Robert Browning; this poem is about the
Duke telling his servant about his last wife, this poem is a poem about obsessive love. The third poem
is called Porphyria s Lover also by Robert Browning; this poem is about a man being suspicious
enough to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whereas the vocabulary in My Last Duchess is very obsessive, vocabulary in Porphyria s Lover is
possessive and also Porphyria s lover is very suspicious of Porphyria. Lake whipped up by the wind ,
Cold room , and Sullen wind are all examples/indications of the menacing love Porphyria s lover has
for Porphyria. Porphyria enters the room and looks like she has come in from a storm, which she has,
but Porphyria s lover makes it sound different. Her cloak is dripping . Porphyria s lover once referred
to Porphyria as mine, mine , this shows his obsession with Porphyria and shows that he only feels
happy when Porphyria is all his.
When her own hair murders Porphyria, Porphyria s lover says he has her love all to himself at last. He
doesn t feel guilty about what he had done God has not said a word .
Secondly, I am going to investigate the sentence structure of all three of the poems.
Looking at the sentence structure of First Love , the sentences are very short and simple, I never saw,
so sweet a face, as that I stood before but there are aw few complex sentences within the poem They
spoke as chords do from the string and blood burnt round my heart .
Rhetorical questions are also asked because he wants to find out a lot more about love, as it is his first
time in being in love. Are flowers the winters choice? Is loves bed always snow? are only a few
examples of rhetorical questions that are in the poem.

Class In America By Gregory Mantsios Critical Analysis
In the first article titled Class in America by Gregory Mantsios the discussion on class affecting the
United States negatively is brought up. Gregory talks about the fact that people do not choose to be
poor but they are put into situations where they cannot move up in class. Due to the fact that class
creates an immense gap in communities, there are many issues linked to being categorized as the
lower class. In the article Gregory states that class affects more than lifestyle and material well being.
It has a significant impact on our physical and mental well being as well. CITE) The author connects
the idea that if you are in the lower class than you will also deal with other issues include your mental
and physical health declining. Alongside this idea, the author also states All Americans do not have an
equal opportunity to succeed, and class mobility in the United States is lower than that of the rest of
the industrialized world. (CITE) This goes along with the idea that once your born into a class,
breaking out of it is virtually impossible. The author is also making the point that in the United States
class is more problematic than other developed nations and because of this not everyone is given the
chance to break free from a poor lifestyle. In the second reading title Framing Class by Diana Kendall
the idea of class is described as the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Diana focuses on the idea
that the media shapes the way we view class. The media

Similarities Between Anne Bradstreet And Who Deseased August
The two poems I chose to connect with are Anne Bradstreet s, In Memory of My Dear Grandchild
Elizabeth Bradstreet, Who Deceased August, 1665, Being A Year and a Half Old and On Being
Brought From Africa To America. In Anne Bradstreet s, In Memory of My Dear Grandchild Elizabeth
Bradstreet, Who Deceased August, 1665, Being A Year and a Half Old, nature and her notions
implicatively insinuate tremendous grief of her granddaughter s death. Bradstreet simply observe
nature where plants and fruits grow and die in a comparison with her grandchild s death (p.121 122)
And time brings down what is both strong and tall. She withal describes different times in accordance
with God s will. Bradstreet compares nature to the death of her granddaughter who was taken at an
adolescent age. Being a Puritan she believes in God s divine will and purport. In her poem she express
the difficulties she face with her death. In the first stanza Bradstreet verbally expresses her goodbye s
to her grandchild Elizabeth. Later she utilizes nebulous words such as terminate, bewail, and rot. It

How Does Chaucer Use Humor In The Millers Tale
While you would be hard pressed to deny/ignore the heavily present humor in the Miller s Tale, which
earns it the title of a fabliau, it is also equally critical to consider the ways in which Chaucer
contradicts these humorous moments with bouts of seriousness. Even though it is often difficult to
discern between what is light hearted and fun compared to what is meaningful and moral telling in the
Miller s Tale, identifying these moments of jest and ernest along with their distinct purposes can help
further readers understanding of what Chaucer might have intended as the overall take away of the
tale. Both moments of humor and seriousness, although contradictory, work together to highlight and
draw attention to instances of significance, which suggest small moral lessons. By examining the most
prominent moments of humor and seriousness and trying to identify the specific moral or reason for
creating that situation, it is the hope that Chaucer s overall intention for the tale will be understood

The Effects Of Social And Emotional Development On Children
Social and Emotional is as important as physical and motor development. Physical and motor
development are much easier to observe than social and emotional development but it doe not dismiss
how important this concept is. It is through social and emotional development that a child self

we must keep in mind that each child is unique in his or her rate of growth and development and there
will be major milestone differences. This paper focuses on the observations of social and emotional
development in children ages 3 years to 8 years old. For my observations I picked two girls and one

On the word of Blaine Hoshizaki March 8, 2011 in the local news article entitled Ottawa Researcher
Rethinks Hockey Helmet, Most concussions occur when there is a hit to the head that turns the head at
the same time, various design factors make current helmets ill suited to protecting players against this
type of hit, including helmet shape. As Hoshizaki stated previously, a hockey helmet s basic shape is
the shape of the player s head. The problem primary problem with the shape is in accordance with
players being directly hit by a forceful object, such as an elbow or even the hockey puck. Modern
hockey helmets are designed with impact in mind; Meaning, helmets are not meant to withstand major
blows from a body check, which physically move the receiving player s head in a certain direction of
which makes the brain collide with the inside of the skull. The reasoning behind Hoshizaki s research
is to maintain safety as well as effectiveness in player equipment. A mouth is the most overlooked
item while a hockey player dresses for a game. According to Sports Med February 2007 the article
entitled Mouthguards in Sports Activities states, Mouth guards reduce the likelihood of concussion
due to a direct blow to the lower jaw bone by positioning the jaw to absorb impact forces that would
normally be transmitted through the base of the skull and into the brain.

Evolution in Seed-Eating Finches
Evolution in Seed Eating Finches
The purpose of this laboratory simulation is to determine the effects of different factors on the
evolution in isolated populations of seed eating finches. The simulation takes place on hypothetical
islands each with a population of finches. The primary finch physical characteristic affected by factors
is the bill size which can change from smaller to larger. Larger bills are an advantage with hard seeds
while smaller bills are an advantage for eating soft seeds. The islands can vary by physical size and
precipitation levels. Larger islands can support a larger population. Higher precipitation levels support
plants with soft seeds while corresponding lower supports plants with harder seeds. The number of
eggs laid or clutch size can also be held static within the simulation.
In addition to physical parameters, this simulation will allow statistical variability changes including
the effect of the dominance of heritability and the statistical variations for the range of changes in the
trait of bill size.
The simulations will study the effect of changes of specific parameters for the different variables
while maintaining all non variable parameters as constants. The result of this is to isolate the effect of
a specific change in a variable and determine how this change effects the evolution of the finches.

regions of present day Spain). After completing his one year term as quaestor Julius returned to Rome
and remarried. His new wife, Pompeia, was the wealthy granddaughter of Sulla the same man who

Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know
==============================
How does the author s treatment of relationships effect the characterisation of the heroines in The Bell
Jar by Sylvia Plath and
Quicksand by Nella Larsen?
This essay will compare the ways in which the novels The Bell Jar by
Sylvia Plath and Quicksand by Nella Larsen deal with relationships, paying particular attention to how
this aids the characterisation of
Esther Greenwood and Helga Crane, the central characters respectively. ... Show more content on

There are times when it seems that Helga is unknowingly saying these thoughts out loud, which only
serves to add to her idiosyncrasies.
The relationships formed on their journey, however unconvincing or bizarre some may seem, shape
the novels and define the impressions on the reader. The Bell Jar is an unsettling account of a young
woman s descent into psychosis, where Plath focuses on the individual, whilst exploring how Esther
regards relationships and how they influence her search for her own identity. In a similar fashion,
Helga Crane is on a continuous search for a genuine sense of self, a place she feels that she belongs.
Although perhaps to a lesser extent than Plath, Larsen uses the superficial nature of Helga s
relationships with others as a way of expressing her distance from the rest of society. There are several
fundamental similarities between the two characters that are interesting to note: they both feel isolated
and misunderstood, they both wish to reject the prejudices of society (whether it be towards women,
African Americans, mulattos, or indeed towards anyone that does not fit the popularly accepted

Gender Roles And Social Construction
Gender roles have influenced our society our whole lives, without us realizing it. They determine the
way in which we, as members of society, behave among others and what is deemed socially
acceptable and what is not, all based on our gender. From the moment children take their first breaths,
they are exposed to the gender roles society has set. This is all part of a social construction to
categorize the two genders into believing that they should act in a particular matter, using toys as an
advertising method. If the baby is a female, parents will opt to dress her in pink or purple, classifying
the child as girly . However, if the child is male, parents will often opt for blue and green, avoiding
pink in order to confirm the masculine gender by society s standards. Even as kids, a girl will
automatically head to the pink side of the toy store, just as a boy would head to the blue section due to
their pre exposed view of society. The social construction predefines a societies belief, thoughts, and
what they consider a norm. As part of a community we take in what is expected of us, and try to
attribute one self into that specific norm. So in some ways the dramaturgical theory plays a big part in
a person s daily life. Due to constantly being told how to behave by those around us, we develop a role
in life some might call a type of theatrical performance (Conley 2013:139). An individual can get so
wrapped up in what society expects from them that they embody that

Skiing Is Better Than Snowboarding Essay
Why skiing is better than Snowboarding
The battle between skiing and snowboarding has been going on for years. Many loyal skiers and
boarders have fought for their style of shredding the powder. This controversial topic has torn many
friendships apart. Snowboarding participation fell 4.5 percent during the last five years, while skiing
grew 6.7 percent, according to the National Ski Areas Association. Skiing is better than snowboarding
because skiing is much easier to learn, skiers have more agility, and skiing is much safer.
Skiing is Easier to learn
Skiing has been found to be easier for many people. One of the main reasons is it is very similar to
other sports like; ice skating, rollerblading and running. The ability to balance on a ... Show more

This lift is however not as easily accessed by snowboarders. The snowboarder must unclip a binding
and with one foot still fastened to the board move into position in a skateboard motion. The T bar lift
forces snowboarders to ride up the hill in a perpendicular position. This makes it impossible for a
snowboarder to place the bar between his or her legs because it will make them off balance and if the
snowboarder falls he or she has to go back to the beginning and try again.
Having Two Skis is Better Than One Snowboard
The physics of skiing and snowboarding are very similar. They both rely on a downwards pull from
gravity. This pull is what turns the potential energy into kinetic energy. As a smooth surface (or two)
pass over the snow a small amount of energy is lost to friction. The bottom of the skis or board zoom
across the surface of the snow creating heat. The heat along with the weight bearing down on the snow
melt some of the snow creating a film of water on the bottom of the surface. Some energy is also lost
by through wind resistance of the riders silhouette.
These principles are similar between the two sports, but their biomechanics are far from the same. It is
easier for an amateur skier to keep his center of mass tucked away safely between the skis, this helps
to avoid falls even when turning. The snowboarder, on the other hand, has constantly to

Is Heathcliff Succumbing To Human Nature
Consistent with most of Emily Bronte s characters in Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff is a manifestation
of natural forces acting involuntarily under the pressure of his own nature (Pittock 147). As such,
Heathcliff succumbs to his nature and reacts without empathy or respect for others. Throughout the
novel, the characters, along with readers and critics, question Heathcliff s nature . Is Heathcliff
succumbing to human nature? Or is he not human at all? Going with the perception of the novel as a
sublime take on reality, Heathcliff represents sublime humanity. People characterize themselves as
civilized and moral, but conveniently overlook the unpleasant truths of civilization. Heathcliff exists
in Wuthering Heights as a fully honest, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seeing Edgar block his progress towards a life with Catherine, Heathcliff loses his example of
kindness and love. Heathcliff does not know how to handle his emotions, so he lashes out in
aggression towards Isabella. In her letter to Nelly, Isabella confesses Heathcliff [rouses] as much terror
in her as a tiger or a venomous serpent ; later, Isabella laments [giving] him her heart only for him to
pinch it to death (Bronte 144 170). Isabella falls victim to Heathcliff s post heartbreak rage and
egotism. Ultimately, Heathcliff has a desire to destroy others due to his frustration from losing
Catherine (Pittock 153). Heathcliff s full union could only be achieved through a requited love with
Catherine, so his yearning for transcendence legitimizes his cruelties (Pittock 154). Heathcliff sees full
release from his own status as a dark skinned orphan through Catherine: his idol of perfection and
superiority.
Typical to human s battle with lust, love, and desire, Heathcliff and Catherine s unhealthy, realistic
relationship demonstrates Heathcliff s masochistic nature (Goff 504). Heathcliff and Catherine have an
undeniable connection for each other, but jealousy and complications of life creep into their
relationship and spoil its pureness. Although Catherine admits, [she is] Heathcliff , he always
[consumes her] mind , and

My Friends Begged Me At The New Comedy Central Show
My friends begged me to watch the new Comedy Central show. They said it was the funniest female
friendly series they had ever seen. Abbi Abrams and Ilana Wexler (played by Abbi Jacobson and Ilana
Glazer), the shows main characters, get into dialogs and different situations that center around casual
sex and bathroom humor, which bend and break existing gender norms. After watching just one
episode, I was completely hooked. It became a weekly ritual for my roommates and I. Abbi and Ilana
play brilliantly to the younger generation by using a combination of intelligence, humor, and far out
scenarios that provoke thought and laughter. It s quite possible the most pure female friendship ever
depicted on television (Blair 2014). Abbi and Ilana are not glamorized, hyper sexualized, or pitted
against each other, they are just funny, bright individuals who are invested in their friendship and
themselves. Broad City is something different, it does not hang on to sexual conduct or make men the
center of their day to day life, Abbi and Ilana are supremely focused on their own lives. What makes
this show so empowering is the fact that their sexuality, gender roles, and behavior are universal and
genuine. Because Broad City depicts women in an equal and realistic state, the humor, language, and
behavior come together to create a program that changes gender expectations and provides a more
complete and open view of women s sexuality.
The women of Broad City deal with issues that sexes

The Importance Of Information On The Internet Of Things
The Internet of Things speeds up awareness and response to events. It has a wide domain of
application for instance in industries such as manufacturing, transportation and public sectors, faster
response time not only improves the output, it also decreases the occurrence of a hazard.
Taking an example of any factory, a temperature sensor deployed on critical machines on the floor can
send readings before a failure is about to happen and action can be taken before in hand. Likewise,
deploying a sensor on oil pipelines can raise an alert and slow down or stop the pumping of oil as a
response to the alert which can help prevent a huge loss. Now that we understand how important it is
to harvest upon the IoT, we need a new kind of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Acts on IoT data in milliseconds, based on policy.
Sends selected data to the cloud for historical analysis and longer term storage. Analyzing the IoT data
close to where it is collected minimizes latency. It reduces gigabytes of network traffic load from the
core network and keeps the sensitive information within the network.
1.5 Concept of Fog Computing:
The fog extends the cloud to be closer to the things that produce and act on IoT data. These devices,
called fog nodes, can be deployed anywhere with a network connection: on a factory floor, on top of a
power pole, alongside a railway track, in a vehicle, or on an oil rig. Any device with computing,
storage, and network connectivity can be a fog node. Examples include industrial controllers,
switches, routers, embedded servers, and video surveillance cameras. IDC estimates that the amount
of data analyzed on devices that are physically close to the Internet of Things is approaching 40
percent.
Fog computing, also known as fogging/edge computing, it is a model in which data, processing and
applications are concentrated in devices at the network edge rather than existing almost entirely in the
cloud.
Fog computing offers many key

  • 2. Museum Field Trips to National Gallery of Art (NGA) and... The two sites that I have chosen to compare are the National Gallery of Art (NGA) and The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met). The reason I chose these specific sites was the first images I saw which made me want to explore the webpages. I will be comparing the visual quality of the homepage, pictures, text, and content along with the overall quality of the two sites. I will go into detail about the differences and which site, in my opinion, would be more enjoyable based on their website. Upon first glance of their homepages, the two sites look completely different in style. When The Metropolitan Museum homepage loaded, I was in awe of the bold image of a man s face covered with ink art. It was eye catching at first, but then I noticed there was no other graphics or pictures on the homepage. The one slide show picture did not even fill the screen from side to side either. It left a kind of boring, bland feeling with me. Then I clicked on the link for the National Gallery of Art homepage. As this site loaded, it filled the computer screen with side to side full color. The background was a beautiful picture of an elegant cathedral like building. In the middle of this eye catching background was a slide menu where each group had its very own beautiful picture. Another refreshing feature is that the background image changes often so that each time I visited it is was a different background image. Although the menu pictures were not as large as The Metropolitan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Personal Statement On The Field When I was on a softball team a few years ago, me and my teammates would communicate through the essentials of communication which are process, meaning, and symbolic communication both on and off the baseball field. In example, when we are on the field, we communicate in procedural ways in order to reach a goal. We were engaging in action when we were practicing and using our knowledge when implementing a strategic plan on how we would play the different opponents we faced especially in crucial games. My teammates were all different races so we all had different cultural backgrounds. There were people on my team who were of American, African American, Asian, Lebanese, Puerto Rican, and Dominican descent. Therefore, my language was constantly changing when communicating between my Hispanic and American teammates. Our interpersonal competence and determination to win depicted the outcome of our games. However, most of us shared the same desire and effort in helping each other learn and grow with the team. Before our games would begin, some teammates practiced different ways based on their cultural roots. For instance, some Dominican teammates would practice their hitting skills by playing a game that is popular in their country. The game consisted of a long thin stick longer than a bat and thinner than a ruler. The balls that was used to pitch to the hitter was the shape of a hockey puck only smaller and thinner. This technique is mainly used to improve hitting skills and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Basic Forms Of Business Organization Three basic forms of business organization are sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation. Sole proprietorship is the simplest form of business organization in which there is only one owner (Cheeseman, 2015, p. 570). Single person is responsible for all debts, liabilities, and obligations, as well as unlimited liability for business operations. If the owner is unsuccessful and acquires debt, creditors can pursue legal action and acquire access to personal bank accounts, real estate, and other assets by the court order to repay person s debt obligations. Owners of sole proprietorships cannot raise capital by selling shares that represent stakeholder interest in the business. The owner reports all income and expenses in personal tax return. The business terminates upon withdrawal or an owner s death. The owner can sell the business and by doing so, will lose the ownership. Advantages of sole proprietorship include freedom of decisions, tax breaks, ease to start, ownership of all profits, being taxed once as a personal income of the owner, and lack of government compliance. Disadvantages of sole proprietorship include unlimited liability, very limited sources of production, and difficulty to raise capital. According to Cheeseman (2015), general partnership is an association of two or more persons to carry on as co owners of a business for profit (p. 572). • 6. The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Qualitative Research... A research paradigm is a way of observing the world. It is composed of certain philosophical assumptions that guide and direct action and thinking. Traditional the main worldviews and paradigms that are presented as being fundamentally opposed are positivism/postpositivism and constructivism/interpretivism (Creswell Plano Clark, 2007; Morgan, 2007). Mixed methods research has been addressed as a response to the ongoing debates discussing the advantages and disadvantages of qualitative versus quantitative research as a result of the paradigm battle. The positivist notion is that a singular reality and only one truth that are out there waiting to be objectively and value free discovered which underpins quantitative research methods. In contrast ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using a paradigm this way relates it directly to research as an epistemological position (Morgan, 2007). In this way a paradigm guides research efforts and the exclusion of other paradigms (Kuhn, 1962). Consequently, from the subjective multiplicity of interpretivism over the contextualized causal understanding of realism to the objective and measurable reality of positivism, paradigms could be construed as dogmatic and as requiring particular research methods and even excluding others (Greene et al., 2001). Kuhn (1962) noted that in that sense, a paradigm could restrict academic creativity and curiosity, and even blind researchers to aspects of new phenomena and theories, thus limiting the imagination (Mills, 1959). Even if not verbalized or made explicit, research questions reflects the researcher s epistemological understanding of the world. Also, any interpretation of findings will show the researchers underlying philosophies drawing on and extending the notion that all knowledge is knowledge from some point of view (Fishman, 1978; Mounce, 1997). Most notable when regarding pragmatism as an alternate paradigm is that it evades the argumentative issues of truth and reality. Pragmatism accepts, in a philosophical stance, that there are both single and multiple realities exposed to empirical investigation, thus, positioning itself toward practical problem solving in the real world (Dewey, 1925; Rorty, 1999; Creswell Plano Clark, 2007). This allows the researcher to be free of practical and conceptual constrictions imposed by the forced choice duality between positivism and constructivism (Creswell Plano Clark, 2007), leaving the researchers outside the prison of a particular research method or technique (Robson, 1993). The quantifiable world relates more closely to existentialism in the pragmatists ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, the Mad Hatter asks the questions, Why is a raven like a writing desk? (Alice 51). In General Idi Amin, Barbet Schroeder spent time with the third Ugandan President and one of the greatest mass murderers, Idi Amin Dada. They were so encouraging that he became a singer and musician. With a rich background he pursued anything that interested him from football to literature. Hemingway tried to participate in the army but he ended up volunteering for the Red Cross traveling to Europe and Italy. Married and then divorced in 1929 he dedicated his life to writing and continued the journey around the world to provide himself with material for his upcoming works. Katherine Anne Porter was born in 1889 in Texas, like Hemingway porters parents were very educated, however they were not rich. Porters family had a traumatic event when her mother died in 1982, deeply affected her. She also became a musician and educator. However, her life was filled with disappointments; her rocky marriages, and unsuccessful attempts in movies. Porter became unhappy and in 1913 she devoted herself to the literature and became a journalist. She traveled mostly to Mexico and encouraged the folk art of the locals. Even though the middle of her life was unsuccessful she was later appointed chair of poetry and literature at the Library of Congress. Argument Against Higher Order Theories Of Consciousness Dretske s quick argument against higher order theories of consciousness Students Name Institutional Affiliation Date Dretske s quick argument against higher order theories of consciousness Higher order theories of consciousness directly state that thoughts, perceptions, and beliefs follow the first mental orders that that connect to personal consciousness. Mostly, the perception of something such as visible images represents the initial thought of phenomenal consciousness. The higher order of theories of consciousness seeks to elaborate the distinct characteristics of consciousness between the consciousness of a particular state of a question and a representation of a higher order thought and believe of the same subject state (Carruthers, 2016). The phenomenal consciousness consists distinctive characteristics that are challenging to explain in the higher orders theories. The subjective components include properties are challenging since the subjective aspects involve feelings and personal process to undergo through their mind. Blake uses simplistic and allusive diction, as well as concrete imagery to convey the corruption of innocence experienced by both of the speakers in the poems. The poems reveal the injustice children felt at the hands of society and the children s blissful innocence under harsh conditions. Blake employs simplistic and allusive diction to portray the innocent nature of the children. The simplicity of a child s experience is exemplified through Blake s usage of cry , laughing , and fear which illustrate universal emotions felt by many. In addition, Blake uses allusive language through examples like Angel , God , and heaven. The reference to the heavens in the first poem functions to evoke feelings of goodness, which goes along with the dream like qualities of the poem, aiding in constructing the image of an innocent child. Both chip cards and magnetic stripe cards are broadly used all over the world in diverse areas of people s life. • 25. Symbolism In The Mermaid Chair, By Sue Monk Kidd Abstract Island is an emblem of both remoteness and nirvana in both East and West. In the East, to the Buddha, island is a positive symbol of revitalization in the core of the ocean of Samsara. In Commonwealth feminist writers such as Anita Desai and Sue Monk Kidd, the island becomes a metaphor for a woman s quest for freedom and identity. The Mermaid Chair is a vividly imagined novel about the spirit and the ecstasies of the body; one that illuminates a woman s self awakening with the brilliant and power that only a writer of Kidd s ability could conjure. An island is a land mass that is often smaller than a continent. An island is normally surrounded by water completely. Egret island is a thin place, in the Celtic sense of the phrase, a place where the visible reality of everyday life and the invisible reality of the sacred interest, where mighty forces work mysteriously to bring about transformation. The main conflict in The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd is the mental and physical illness of Jessie Sullivan s the main character, one of those unambiguous women with no desire to disturb the universe. • 26. Counseling And Christian Perspective On Counseling Counseling and Christian Perspective Studying psychology and philosophy has made me ask many questions. By what principles do people make decisions? What drives us? Where do emotions come from? Are there such things as unconscious motives and thoughts or are those ideas nothing more than the clever and profitable figment of psychologists imagination? However, the main question I struggled with is who we are and how we operate? Counseling is seen as a very solution focused approach. The temptation to rush quickly to the end of the mystery novel must be resisted. The detective s clever conclusions cannot be fully appreciated without first understanding the complexities of the tangle he unravels. The same principle applies here: an adequate appreciation of solutions depends on an adequate understanding of people and their problems. The Christian community and secular communities are overrun with ideas about wholeness and growth. The solution of Calvary, for example, is only valued too the degree that the problem of sin is grasped. If we skip the hard and sometimes tedious work of figuring out who we are and why we struggle so much, then our efforts as counselors to help others will be shallow and, in the long run, unhelpful. The relationship between Christianity and Counseling Trust and obey, for there s no other way to be happy in Jesus. Could it really be as simple as the hymn suggests? Porphyria enters the room and looks like she has come in from a storm, which she has, but Porphyria s lover makes it sound different. Her cloak is dripping . Porphyria s lover once referred to Porphyria as mine, mine , this shows his obsession with Porphyria and shows that he only feels happy when Porphyria is all his. When her own hair murders Porphyria, Porphyria s lover says he has her love all to himself at last. He doesn t feel guilty about what he had done God has not said a word . Class In America By Gregory Mantsios Critical Analysis In the first article titled Class in America by Gregory Mantsios the discussion on class affecting the United States negatively is brought up. Gregory talks about the fact that people do not choose to be poor but they are put into situations where they cannot move up in class. Due to the fact that class creates an immense gap in communities, there are many issues linked to being categorized as the lower class. In the article Gregory states that class affects more than lifestyle and material well being. It has a significant impact on our physical and mental well being as well. CITE) The author connects the idea that if you are in the lower class than you will also deal with other issues include your mental and physical health declining. Alongside this idea, the author also states All Americans do not have an equal opportunity to succeed, and class mobility in the United States is lower than that of the rest of the industrialized world. (CITE) This goes along with the idea that once your born into a class, breaking out of it is virtually impossible. The author is also making the point that in the United States class is more problematic than other developed nations and because of this not everyone is given the chance to break free from a poor lifestyle. Even though it is often difficult to discern between what is light hearted and fun compared to what is meaningful and moral telling in the Miller s Tale, identifying these moments of jest and ernest along with their distinct purposes can help further readers understanding of what Chaucer might have intended as the overall take away of the tale. Both moments of humor and seriousness, although contradictory, work together to highlight and draw attention to instances of significance, which suggest small moral lessons. As Hoshizaki stated previously, a hockey helmet s basic shape is the shape of the player s head. The problem primary problem with the shape is in accordance with players being directly hit by a forceful object, such as an elbow or even the hockey puck. Modern hockey helmets are designed with impact in mind; Meaning, helmets are not meant to withstand major blows from a body check, which physically move the receiving player s head in a certain direction of which makes the brain collide with the inside of the skull. The simulation takes place on hypothetical islands each with a population of finches. The primary finch physical characteristic affected by factors is the bill size which can change from smaller to larger. Larger bills are an advantage with hard seeds while smaller bills are an advantage for eating soft seeds. The islands can vary by physical size and precipitation levels. Larger islands can support a larger population. Higher precipitation levels support plants with soft seeds while corresponding lower supports plants with harder seeds. The number of eggs laid or clutch size can also be held static within the simulation. In addition to physical parameters, this simulation will allow statistical variability changes including the effect of the dominance of heritability and the statistical variations for the range of changes in the trait of bill size. The simulations will study the effect of changes of specific parameters for the different variables while maintaining all non variable parameters as constants. The relationships formed on their journey, however unconvincing or bizarre some may seem, shape the novels and define the impressions on the reader. The Bell Jar is an unsettling account of a young woman s descent into psychosis, where Plath focuses on the individual, whilst exploring how Esther regards relationships and how they influence her search for her own identity. In a similar fashion, Helga Crane is on a continuous search for a genuine sense of self, a place she feels that she belongs. Although perhaps to a lesser extent than Plath, Larsen uses the superficial nature of Helga s relationships with others as a way of expressing her distance from the rest of society. There are several fundamental similarities between the two characters that are interesting to note: they both feel isolated and misunderstood, they both wish to reject the prejudices of society (whether it be towards women, African Americans, mulattos, or indeed towards anyone that does not fit the popularly accepted ... • 41. Gender Roles And Social Construction Gender roles have influenced our society our whole lives, without us realizing it. They determine the way in which we, as members of society, behave among others and what is deemed socially acceptable and what is not, all based on our gender. From the moment children take their first breaths, they are exposed to the gender roles society has set. This is all part of a social construction to categorize the two genders into believing that they should act in a particular matter, using toys as an advertising method. If the baby is a female, parents will opt to dress her in pink or purple, classifying the child as girly . However, if the child is male, parents will often opt for blue and green, avoiding pink in order to confirm the masculine gender by society s standards. Even as kids, a girl will automatically head to the pink side of the toy store, just as a boy would head to the blue section due to their pre exposed view of society. The social construction predefines a societies belief, thoughts, and what they consider a norm. As part of a community we take in what is expected of us, and try to attribute one self into that specific norm. So in some ways the dramaturgical theory plays a big part in a person s daily life. Due to constantly being told how to behave by those around us, we develop a role in life some might call a type of theatrical performance (Conley 2013:139). An individual can get so wrapped up in what society expects from them that they embody that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Skiing Is Better Than Snowboarding Essay Why skiing is better than Snowboarding The battle between skiing and snowboarding has been going on for years. Many loyal skiers and boarders have fought for their style of shredding the powder. This controversial topic has torn many friendships apart. Snowboarding participation fell 4.5 percent during the last five years, while skiing grew 6.7 percent, according to the National Ski Areas Association. Skiing is better than snowboarding because skiing is much easier to learn, skiers have more agility, and skiing is much safer. Skiing is Easier to learn Skiing has been found to be easier for many people. One of the main reasons is it is very similar to other sports like; ice skating, rollerblading and running. The ability to balance on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This lift is however not as easily accessed by snowboarders. The snowboarder must unclip a binding and with one foot still fastened to the board move into position in a skateboard motion. The T bar lift forces snowboarders to ride up the hill in a perpendicular position. This makes it impossible for a snowboarder to place the bar between his or her legs because it will make them off balance and if the snowboarder falls he or she has to go back to the beginning and try again. Having Two Skis is Better Than One Snowboard The physics of skiing and snowboarding are very similar. They both rely on a downwards pull from gravity. This pull is what turns the potential energy into kinetic energy. As a smooth surface (or two) pass over the snow a small amount of energy is lost to friction. The bottom of the skis or board zoom across the surface of the snow creating heat. The heat along with the weight bearing down on the snow melt some of the snow creating a film of water on the bottom of the surface. Some energy is also lost by through wind resistance of the riders silhouette. These principles are similar between the two sports, but their biomechanics are far from the same. It is easier for an amateur skier to keep his center of mass tucked away safely between the skis, this helps to avoid falls even when turning. The snowboarder, on the other hand, has constantly to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Is Heathcliff Succumbing To Human Nature Consistent with most of Emily Bronte s characters in Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff is a manifestation of natural forces acting involuntarily under the pressure of his own nature (Pittock 147). As such, Heathcliff succumbs to his nature and reacts without empathy or respect for others. Throughout the novel, the characters, along with readers and critics, question Heathcliff s nature . Is Heathcliff succumbing to human nature? Or is he not human at all? Going with the perception of the novel as a sublime take on reality, Heathcliff represents sublime humanity. People characterize themselves as civilized and moral, but conveniently overlook the unpleasant truths of civilization. Heathcliff exists in Wuthering Heights as a fully honest, ... Heathcliff does not know how to handle his emotions, so he lashes out in aggression towards Isabella. In her letter to Nelly, Isabella confesses Heathcliff [rouses] as much terror in her as a tiger or a venomous serpent ; later, Isabella laments [giving] him her heart only for him to pinch it to death (Bronte 144 170). Isabella falls victim to Heathcliff s post heartbreak rage and egotism. Ultimately, Heathcliff has a desire to destroy others due to his frustration from losing Catherine (Pittock 153). Heathcliff s full union could only be achieved through a requited love with Catherine, so his yearning for transcendence legitimizes his cruelties (Pittock 154). Heathcliff sees full release from his own status as a dark skinned orphan through Catherine: his idol of perfection and superiority. Typical to human s battle with lust, love, and desire, Heathcliff and Catherine s unhealthy, realistic relationship demonstrates Heathcliff s masochistic nature (Goff 504). • 44. My Friends Begged Me At The New Comedy Central Show My friends begged me to watch the new Comedy Central show. They said it was the funniest female friendly series they had ever seen. Abbi Abrams and Ilana Wexler (played by Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer), the shows main characters, get into dialogs and different situations that center around casual sex and bathroom humor, which bend and break existing gender norms. After watching just one episode, I was completely hooked. It became a weekly ritual for my roommates and I. Abbi and Ilana play brilliantly to the younger generation by using a combination of intelligence, humor, and far out scenarios that provoke thought and laughter. It s quite possible the most pure female friendship ever depicted on television (Blair 2014). Abbi and Ilana are not glamorized, hyper sexualized, or pitted against each other, they are just funny, bright individuals who are invested in their friendship and themselves. Broad City is something different, it does not hang on to sexual conduct or make men the center of their day to day life, Abbi and Ilana are supremely focused on their own lives. What makes this show so empowering is the fact that their sexuality, gender roles, and behavior are universal and genuine. Because Broad City depicts women in an equal and realistic state, the humor, language, and behavior come together to create a program that changes gender expectations and provides a more complete and open view of women s sexuality. The women of Broad City deal with issues that sexes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Importance Of Information On The Internet Of Things The Internet of Things speeds up awareness and response to events. It has a wide domain of application for instance in industries such as manufacturing, transportation and public sectors, faster response time not only improves the output, it also decreases the occurrence of a hazard. Taking an example of any factory, a temperature sensor deployed on critical machines on the floor can send readings before a failure is about to happen and action can be taken before in hand. Likewise, deploying a sensor on oil pipelines can raise an alert and slow down or stop the pumping of oil as a response to the alert which can help prevent a huge loss. Now that we understand how important it is to harvest upon the IoT, we need a new kind of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Acts on IoT data in milliseconds, based on policy. It reduces gigabytes of network traffic load from the core network and keeps the sensitive information within the network. 1.5 Concept of Fog Computing: The fog extends the cloud to be closer to the things that produce and act on IoT data. These devices, called fog nodes, can be deployed anywhere with a network connection: on a factory floor, on top of a power pole, alongside a railway track, in a vehicle, or on an oil rig. Any device with computing, storage, and network connectivity can be a fog node. Examples include industrial controllers, switches, routers, embedded servers, and video surveillance cameras. IDC estimates that the amount of data analyzed on devices that are physically close to the Internet of Things is approaching 40 percent. Fog computing, also known as fogging/edge computing, it is a model in which data, processing and applications are concentrated in devices at the network edge rather than existing almost entirely in the cloud.
