Robert Redford And Nolte
There is only one question that you need to ask yourself before deciding to see A Walk in the Woods :
Can you justify sitting through an utterly predictable and rather tame man vs. nature ramble in order to
enjoy the affable odd couple chemistry shared by Robert Redford and Nick Nolte?
Certainly, it is hard to resist a rare opportunity to observe these seasoned septuagenarians go at it with
gusto, especially considering that the only other time Redford and Nolte have been cast mates was in
the barely seen 2013 political thriller The Company You Keep. Nowadays, the handsomely rough
hewn star of North Dallas Forty looks more like a ruddy faced Yeti while the still fit Sundance Kid is
paying the price for all that ultraviolet glare on the ski slopes. But these guys still know how to not
just hold our attention but grab it, even if their current film needs them more than they need it. ...

Art of Love
The Art of Love
Framing for a Misogynist
The poetry of Ovid exemplified in The Art of Love is one of the only examples of the contemporary
social behavior exhibited during the time of Rome. Ovid writes about social activities, proper style,
women, and how to obtain them. Through Ovid s perspective, there are three different ways to
consider a woman. These three views include relating a woman to a game, a beautiful treasure, and as
a means to assert social status. Comparatively, Andreas Capellanus writes in a way that makes women
seem respected, worthy and as something to a man would willingly devote his life to. Both men have a
clear fascination with women and their relationship to men. However, their distinct writing styles
cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The view Ovid takes on women is not always clear. In some passages he has a violent perspective on
women. Ovid writes about how he easily could have taken advantage of women, displaying a negative
viewpoint of ownership towards females. Similarly he says never a virgin there was free from the lust
of a hand , which shows that men desire women, and a virgin is held as a high prize, one that is worth
committing the act of adultery for (Art 1. 89 126). On the other end, Capellanus views the trophy of
virginity as futile and counters that while you know some other man is enjoying the embraces of your
beloved, this will make you begin to value her solaces all the more (2.2, 3). Furthermore, he makes the
argument against adultery, again opposing the views of Ovid. Capellanus explains his argument in
detail by stating that a man in love is adorned with the virtue of chastity, because he who shines with
the light of one love can hardly think of embracing another woman, even a beautiful one (1.4, 2).
Contrary to many men who believe that a man must be strong and not show a woman his tenderness,
Ovid shares his heart, saying, do not think it a shame to suffer her blows or her curses; do not think it
a shame, stooping, to kiss her feet (Art 2. 522 553) . This is simply an outstanding statement, as it
serves to show the true emotion and character of Ovid. This statement cannot be taken lightly

Corporate Social Responsibility Theories: Mapping the Territory
Elisabet Garriga, ` ´ Domenec Mele
ABSTRACT. The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) field presents not only a landscape of
theories but also a proliferation of approaches, which are controversial, complex and unclear. This
article tries to clarify the situation, mapping the territory by classifying the main CSR theories and
related approaches in four groups: (1) instrumental theories, in which the corporation is seen as only
an instrument for wealth creation, and its social activities are only a means to achieve economic
results; (2) political theories, which concern themselves with the power of corporations in society and
a responsible use of this power in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

` ´ Elisabet Garriga and Domenec Mele questioned as CSR seems to be a consequence of how this
relationship is understood (Jones, 1983; McMahon, 1986; Preston, 1975; Wood, 1991b). In order to
contribute to a clarification of the field of business and society, our aim here is to map the territory in
which most relevant CSR theories and related approaches are situated. We will do so by considering
each theory from the perspective of how the interaction phenomena between business and society are
focused. As the starting point for a proper classification, we assume as hypothesis that the most
relevant CSR theories and related approaches are focused on one of the following aspects of social
reality: economics, politics, social integration and ethics. The inspiration for this hypothesis is rooted
in four aspects that, according to Parsons (1961), can be observed in any social system: adaptation to
the environment (related to resources and economics), goal attainment (related to politics), social
integration and pattern maintenance or latency (related to culture and values).1 This hypothesis
permits us to classify these theories in four groups: 1. A first group in which it is assumed that the
corporation is an instrument for wealth creation and that this is its sole social responsibility. Only the
economic aspect of the interactions

The Hostility Between the Montagues and the Capulets ...
The Hostility Between the Montagues and the Capulets in Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare William
Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet has a major theme of conflict. The main conflict in the play is
the feud between the two wealthy families: the Montagues and the Capulets . Shakespeare does not
state the reason for the hostility between the two families. Shakespeare may have done this to indicate
how long the feud has been going for. Shakespeare creates conflicts between characters in the play.
One conflict is between Tybalt and Romeo . This conflict is interesting because it is between two
contrasting characters. Tybalt is very arrogant and has an aggressive attitude. While Romeo is quiet ...

Friar Lawrence provides another example of conflict when he marries Romeo to Juliet in opposition to
the authority of their fathers. This conflict is unique because Romeo and Juliet s fathers did not found
out about the marriage until towards the end of the play. This creates suspense in the story. Sometimes
there is conflict inside the mind of individuals. Romeo visualizes where his destiny leads him to. I fear
too early, for my mind misgives some consequence yet hanging in the stars . This line shows
disturbing pictures of Romeo s fait. Shakespeare uses conflicts inside the minds to create mystery.
Love and hate is a very common occurrence in Romeo and Juliet . There are many characters that
show a loving attitude towards someone. Romeo and Rosaline love was not pure Romeo was just
infatuated with Rosaline, this all stopped once Romeo meets Juliet. Another example of love is
between Romeo and Friar Lawrence. Romeo and Friar Lawrence love is different. This is because
they share a brotherly type of love. Nurse and Juliet provide another example of love in the play. Their
love is similar to the love that Romeo and Friar Lawrence share. However the love between the Nurse
and Juliet is considered to be stronger because Nurse has nurtured Juliet since she was a baby. There is
evidence of this in the play. On Lammas eve at night shall she be

Abortion Is Terminating A Fetus Before The Baby
Abortion is terminating a fetus before the baby is capable of living. Currently, there is a debate
amongst the politicians to decide whether to continue or not to continue funding for abortion. The
Federal Government should not still fund Planned Parenthood abortions, so the individuals can pay for
it on their own. People don t want their tax dollars to be spent on abortions not everyone is pro choice
nor a pro life either. Tax dollars could be spent on other needs for our country. People don t want to
pay for something they d never use. Abortions should be recognized as one of the ways to end a
person s life. Women have abortions for a number of reasons, but none of them are willing to pay for it
themselves. And I believe that Planned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The abortion procedures would be changed to increase the likelihood of a successfully obtaining a
specific fetal tissue for resale. It is currently not clear the amount being made after selling. There are
four clinics guilty and put under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice. In an article by
Micaiah Bilger Chilling Evidence Shows Planned Parenthood Selling Body Parts: How s the Pancreas
Forecast Today? The list shows that the following organs such as the hearts, brains, kidneys, tongues,
ears, and lungs are being taken out of fetuses and sold for profit for the individual seller. This is an
example of some of the organs trying to be sold. It sounds like it just cars parts being sold for more
profit. I don t view human life in that way. The human life is so valuable and precious to want to sell
any organs.
Also another procedure performed at the clinics is called partial birth abortions. The definition of a
partial birth abortion is a procedure of a living baby, whom is feet first and all except for the head.
Then, the head is punctured and the clinic removes the baby s brain. Finally, the skull collapses and a
dead baby would be delivered. An Article titled Facts of Partial Birth Abortions claims that, these
partial birth abortions are performed 3,000 5,000 annually . The numbers of times partial births are
being used are rare, but they still do occur. There also was a Partial birth abortion act stated by Facts

He is a youtuber aswell and uploads every single day. Here are some clips so you can get to know him
a little bit. The first clip is from his most recent viral video Snowboarding with the NYPD The next is
from Aladdin prank and the last is Make It Count . I kind of wish I could just sit here and show you all
of his videos because they are so good. He has made movies like this for Nike, Samsung (which he got
to go to the Oscars for btw) , He co produced a film that screened at the Cannes film festival in 2008
and another he was involved in , in 2009, he had a tv show with 8 episodes with his brother on HBO.
Now all of this is amazing and exactly and partly why he falls into the life less ordinary category. But
before all this he grew up mostly just like one of us. He grew up in a quiet Connecticut town and he
didn t like school. He was a pretty bad kid and got in trouble a lot. [draw my life video]. He dropped
out of high school when he was 15 and he lived in a trailer park with his girlfriend.. and then his
girlfriend became pregnant. He was poor, very dirt poor. He was a dishwasher in a seafood restaurant
for years. He started filming his sons early childhood when he was 18 and that s where the passion for
filming started. By telling these little stories about his son Owen he felt like he had a voice. He
decided to leave and live in New York City in june of 2001, it was a dream he had while living in the
trailer park, not because he was going to New York to become a filmmaker but because New York was
the dream. In 2003 his ipod the very first ipod s battery died, obviously technology was different and
the battery would only last 1 and a half years. He got angry about it so he made a small film called
ipods dirty secret and it went viral. That s when everything started to skyrocket for him. I m telling
you his long backstory because its kind of

Gun Control and Self Protection Essay
Gun control is probably one of the most debatable concerns in the constitution. There are many
scenarios in which you can see the good in pro gun control and also other scenarios where con gun
control is good. Gun control should not be a plan the U.S government should take because there are
many cases in which a firearm will determine you from death or life. And the right to carry a firearm
is like the right to protect our freedom, and to self defend ourselves. Firearms are used defensively
roughly 2.5 million times per year, more than four times as many as criminal uses. This amounts to
2,575 lives protected for every life lost to a gun. (SAF) The people that are most concerned by this
issue are those that have lost someone close to them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firearms are your defense from criminals. If we are not to have our 2nd amendment our crime rates
will increase because criminals will invade houses more freely because they know that that citizen
doesn t have a firearm or another words protection .Also new types of crimes will probably be created
such as home invasion robberies or car hackings. Not only that but a rise in intimidation where
criminals will intimidate people to give up their valuables so they can avoid being injured by the
criminal. Also if we are not to have firearms the 5,285 children will be alive but our nation will be
enduring more violence then it already is enduring. If we are to keep our 2nd amendment we will have
better chances of surviving in a situation in which we are attacked or aggravated by a criminal. If we
are to call 9 1 1 when we are getting aggravated the police would take longer than if we had a firearm
and protected ourselves. The fastest growing group of gun owners is women. (SAF) This is probably
because 232,960 women in the U.S. were raped or sexually assaulted in 2006. That s more than 600
women every day. These were only the cases that were reported to the police. (NOW) Even though
these statistics are hard to believe there is still a women that thinks, ...I don t believe gun owners have
right. (Brady) Without guns there would probably be double rape cases then what there is now. Also a
firearm is usually only given to citizens that are responsible because that is were

Textual Analysis Of The Crucible
Textual Analysis The Crucible The text which I have chosen to analyse is from the play The Crucible
by Arthur Miller, just looking at Act One of this play. In Act One the scene opens in Reverend Parris s
house, in the year of 1692; the scene focuses on Betty being ill in bed and laying limp , showing the
powerful forces, they believe to be witchcraft has overcome her. This extract highlights the importance
of the themes that are throughout the play and the ideas of townspeople s lives in Salem, in which the
characters portray. This play is set in a theocratic society, where the church and the state are one, and
where the religion is strict and shapes their beliefs. Within this Act the narrator describes Salem town
as having a strict Puritan way of life with an outlook on the rest of the world as one of parochial
snobbery . One of the most important themes to look at in The Crucible is hysteria. The hysteria is
tearing the Salem community apart, it creates people s fear of their neighbours and they believe that
friends and even family are committing unbelievable crimes of witchcraft and communicating with the
devil. To highlight the theme of hysteria we can see how Tituba is [terrified] and [falls to her knees];
in which she is full of hysteria when questioned by Hale by breaking down and confesses to being a
witch, though earlier denying practicing witchcraft. Hysteria rises as everyone begins to blame each
other, and with Abigail shouting accusations at Tituba that

Two Sisters Of Persephone Sylvia Plath Literary Devices
Through the use of distinct opposites, Sylvia Plath is able to create two different mood in her poem,
Two Sisters of Persephone. The concept of two moods is set up in the poem s first stanza: daylong a
duet of shade and light, (2). This line suggests a battle between light and dark. Light being a metaphor
for and hope and happiness and darkness a metaphor for depression and sadness. Already, it s obvious
that there are two distinct females who are representative of different concepts. The first girl, who has
a, root pale...meager frame, (12) is obviously darkness. She s weak and pale which suggests hunger or
deprivation of some sort. There s no doubt that this fact contributes to the darkness portrayed by the
first female. It also seems as though she is dying. This death could be a sort of hyperbole to explain
what s happening within her or it could be literal. The girl of darkness, sees how their red silk flare / of
petaled blood, (17 18). Plath speaks of the girl seeing blood as a red silk flare. ... Show more content

Blood could be a metaphorical term for the dark girl having the life and her will to live sucked out of
her. Either way, the lines create an eerie, depressed mood. The other girl, however, is, bronzed as

This girl has all of these bright, happy, carefree aspects which are part of her life. Her life is seemingly
carefree. She hears blown gold and floating pollen. It s as though she s near the mentioned bed of
poppies. The bright girl, freely become[s] sun s bride, (21). This suggests that the girl of light is not
restricted in any way and is free to be happy. Sylvia Plath s use of opposites in her poem, The Two
Sisters of Persephone, creates two separate moods; one of depression and one of happiness and

OxyContin also known by its generic name Oxycodone is an opioid drug that relieves moderate short

brain, this allows the user to stop from feeling any physical pain they may be in. Another short term
effect is it slows down not only the respiratory system but also the central nervous system, allowing
the drowsy effect to take place. The positive effects of OxyContin are often the reason why people
become addicted to the drug. As for long term effects it may include the following, increased levels of
tolerance, reparatory distress, physical dependence on the drug, and death

Introduction: Figure 1: Formation of Aβ due to cleavage of APP by β secretase. The first generation
inhibitors for BACE1 were peptidomimetics, compounds in which the scissile amide bond has been
replaced with a tetrahedral intermediate isostere, typically a secondary alcohol. However, the earlier
peptidomimetics have proved to be too large, polar and had no CNS availability.10 The second

compared to 1 (Kd=15M). BACE1 is an aspartyl protease which has an acid base catalysis

to the substrate. The isothiourea functionality of 2 engaged in hydrogen bond donor−acceptor

Discuss Smith s Ideas On The Division Of Labour
Explain and Evaluate Smith s Ideas on the Division of Labour:
A core part of dominant ideology is the split between state and market is this valid? Is this true?
One of Adam Smith s main focuses was the problem of the relationship between money and the state.
Adam Smith can be seen as pioneering in questioning the role of the state, as he was seemingly the
first to propose a systematic model of the economy that was independent of the state. He attempts to
explain how society should organise economics from the perspective of what is naturally occurring. In
doing this he finds that what should be and what can be are profoundly interlinked. This revolutionary
thinking went against mercantilism, which was the dominant approach of the time period.
Mercantilism can be understood as an economic model that was characterized by government
intervention. Mercantilism was an alliance between merchants and the state that was premised on
increasing the power and wealth of the state through growing certain sections of the economy. It was
formed by the concerns of the time, such as a need to maintain new and expensive militaries, the rise
of the nation state, and crises and shortages of money.
Adam Smith s wrote The Wealth of Nations (1776) primarily as an attack on the economic
mercantilist system of the day. Smith aimed to demolish the mercantilist beliefs that money was an
end, and that the accumulation of wealth could be identified with the accumulation of money, and to
understand

energy to the song, which makes it a very unique song. The instruments that play during the song are a

compliments his voice very well. When Don McLean sings the song, it sounds like he is telling a story

Summary Of A Vindication Of The Rights Of Woman By Mary...
From A Vindication of the Rights of Woman by Mary Wollstonecraft is covering the importance that
women should have education in the eighteenth century. In her Vindication of the Rights of Women it
was a response towards Rousseau. She explains how philosophers like Rousseau were so intelligent
however they ignored the fact that women need to seek education as well. Wollstonecraft gives her
reasons on why women should value education in their lives and how it is beneficial. It is crucial that
women provide themselves with an education because knowledge will allow them to overcome the
burden that men set on them. During the eighteenth century Rousseau came up with this theory that if
men had education they can be unstoppable human beings. He ... Show more content on

She is huge on the power of knowledge and reasoning so she uses that to her advantage when arguing
about her views for woman s rights. As Wollstonecraft implies, strengthen the female mind by
enlarging it, and there will be an end to blind obedience; but as blind obedience is ever sought for by
power, tyrants and sensualists are in the right when they endeavor to keep women in the dark, because
the former only want slaves and the latter a play thing. (136). She portrays herself as a rational thinker
when it comes to the issue with women. Wollstonecraft to a certain degree faced hatred towards her
reasoning but she doesn t allow that to stop what she believes. The men in the times of the eighteenth
century wouldn t approve of the actions that Wollstonecraft did because they think that is manly of a
woman to speak upon issues like that. There is also a sense of pride and acknowledgment within her
own reasoning with equality between men and women. She is acknowledging within in her own
knowledge because she isn t excluding anyone when it comes to education. She believes everyone is
capable of seeking after education and having a chance. Therefore, Wollstonecraft tone and voice is
highly favored because she speaks on what she believes with confidence but without floundering out

The Importance Of Current Science Books
Has anyone noticed how the desire of children (or brats, as we like to call them) to know, to
understand and to learn about their environment, has declined significantly over the years? Why, when
we were kids (you know when we walked ten miles to school), it wasn t unusual to see second graders
going through the chapters of their science books and digging up experiments that simply used a
mirror, water, and sunlight to demonstrate the formation of rainbow colours. The results challenged
the mind and instantly brought up questions that would not rest until their answers had been sought
out. This sort of healthy curiosity was common in the past but is gradually decreasing with time.

Most students nowadays will agree that science is the worst thing that happened to them, that it was
forced upon them by their parents and was completely based on bookish knowledge.
The biggest problem seems to be the lack of lab equipment and real lab classes. At its core, science is
not a theoretical subject. It is based on physical experiments. A boring lecture on refraction can never
replace the wealth of practical information and visual feedback obtained in the lab. Through practical
lessons, kids will be able to cultivate an ability to think by themselves through experiments in physics,
chemistry and biology. Even in the A Level course, we don t have the opportunity to conduct our own
experiments but we race to finish the questions in the question paper and pull at our hair when the
answers don t come out right. The teachers are so bent upon completing the syllabus that they seem to
forget that they have a responsibility of making the subject more exciting to us. This was the general
combined opinion of most of the senior students of English medium schools.
Even the teachers agreed. The unanimous opinion was that even if a student, purely through his/her
interests, wants to pursue the ways of science, the unavailability of the right books and equipments
poses a barrier. When I asked a teacher at this institution whether students were

Parental Divorce Article Analysis
Lawton, L. E., Bures, R. (2001). Parental Divorce and the Switching of Religious Identity. Journal For
The Scientific Study Of Religion, 40(1), 99. Purpose: This article examines the impact of parental
divorce on the likelihood that an individual has changed their religious identity. Methods: We use the
nationally representative 1987 National Survey of Families and Households (NSFH). This data set
contains information on 13,017 respondents, including information on their current and childhood
religious affiliation and family structure. Our sample consists of the 11,372 respondents who reported
that they were raised as either Catholics or as mainline Protestants (see Mueller 1971). Of this sample,
3,461 respondents were raised as Catholics and 7, 911 were raised as Protestants. Among Protestants,
we further distinguish between liberal and moderate Protestants (n=4,129) and conservative
Protestants (n=3,782). We exclude Mormons and Jehovah s Witnesses because these two groups do
not fit into the Protestant denomination structure as outlined by Mueller. For the analysis of switching

consistent that women are more likely to switch to another denomination. Divorce increases the

significant). Apparently, for some divorced adults, the ties to religious ideology and community

My Undergraduate Work At California Polytechnic State...
I chose to do my undergraduate work at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.
Cal Poly was affordable, strong in the sciences and well known for its Learn by Doing philosophy. I
received a phenomenal education in science and nutrition helping me feel prepared to begin graduate
studies in advanced practice nursing. Prior to Cal Poly, I planned a career in nursing, ultimately
deciding that studying nutrition at Cal Poly could provide an excellent foundation. I found nutrition
fascinating. During my maternal and child nutrition course my passion surrounding the health and
wellness of women, particularly during pregnancy, solidified. I began finding ways to supplement my
learning in this direction. As a research assistant for a pediatric nurse practitioner, I sat in on
breastfeeding support groups, consultations and researched topics of concern for new mothers. Some
women had been advised to avoid certain foods while breastfeeding in order to prevent and treat colic
symptoms. As a nutrition major, I am interested in diet modifications as therapies but also aware of the
challenges women are facing to meet the current breastfeeding recommendations. Worried dietary
exclusions may not be evidence based and could contribute to breastfeeding avoidance, I began
researching to find the answers. With the support of my senior project advisor, Dr. Swadener, I dug
into the clinic trials. I found some success in treating infantile colic with a maternal hypoallergenic

Graffiti Should Not Be In Art Galleries
January 25, 2016
To Whom It May Concern: I am writing this letter because i have heard comments and rumors around
the community about graffiti being in museums and in art galleries. Graffiti should not be in art
galleries or in museums because graffiti started out in the streets and thats where it should stay. First
of all, tagging and graffiti are very different even though there are spoken in similar context. In source

Bilbo Baggins Essay
Bilbo Baggins Essay
Have you ever changed in your life for the better? Well, in the novel, The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien,
there is a main character named Bilbo Baggins who is a hobbit. Bilbo changes throughout the story
because he is a dynamic character. He becomes courageous, adventurous, and learns to use his wits as
the story develops. Let me go into further detail with this.
First of all, he gains courage in the story. Before he went on this adventure, he was timid and to
himself. This is because hobbits didn t go on anything dangerous, especially adventures. This all
changes as soon as Bilbo goes on this journey with Gandalf and the dwarves. We see our first example
of this when he tries to steal from the three huge, nasty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bilbo used to be one of the least adventurous hobbits out there. But he does things he never thought he
would do, like accept the job as a burglar, and fulfills his duties as one. So in the sense, he gained an
adventurous side of him he thought he never had. We see his adventurous side when he saves his
friends from the prison of the wood elves. He could ve just left them or begged the wood elf to free
them, but he decided to wait for his one chance and escape with his friends. He stole the keys from
one of the elves, set them free, put them into barrels and sent them all down the river. Now tell me
what he did was not out of the ordinary or the least bit of adventurous. We also see his speech starting
to change into an adventurer s when he says, I tell you the gold was only an afterthought with us. We
came over hill and under hill for revenge. First of all, he said this to the almighty Smaug, who could
burn him to smithereens if he chose to. So he gained confidence as well, which came with the
adventure side of him.
In conclusion, we can now see that Bilbo is in fact a dynamic character. He gains many qualities he
can use in the future, like courage, learning to use his wits, and letting out the adventurous side in him.
He used to be almost paranoid, to himself, and strict. But now he has turned into something much
bigger, an adventurer. So the adventure changed him for the better. This is how Bilbo Baggins, the
hobbit we thought would never do anything

LSD In The Mouse Party
The Mouse Party interactive experiment, released by The University of Utah, was quite an interesting
and bizarre way to learn how drugs affect the brain. My prior knowledge on this subject matter was
rather small, therefore my interest in this experiment was elevated. I chose to discuss three drugs that
interested me the most in this reflection. LSD was the first drug that struck my curiosity when learning
about the compound components to. Thus to no surprise, the rat that was on it was picked first. LSD
relies almost completely on the serotonin neurons in the brain by rearranging and binding them
together to create array of effects on the body. LSD is known for the way it reacts to receptor s in a
variety different ways, making the hallucinatory effects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cocaine works by temporarily blocking dopamine transporters in the brain, leaving the synaptic cleft
built up with excess dopamine, causing the cell to get overstimulated. This effects the reward center of
the brain, making the user feel a sensation of positive feelings for a short amount of time, therefore
making it highly addictive. Moving onto methamphetamine (meth), in my opinion, by far the worst
drug out off all the others in this experiment. Meth is introduced to the body through inhalation or
injection, causing the dopamine transporters in the brain to start working in reverse. Due to this,
dopamine floods the synapse causing the body to have intense sensations of happiness and pleasure
for a short period of time. A result in using this, will deplete your dopamine levels causing a
dependency on the drug to feel happiness or pleasure. The information that was presented to me over
the course of the mouse party interactive experiment, had been very beneficial to my understanding of
how drugs effect the brain. Everything in this experiment correlated to what we learned about in
lecture last Thursday, making it easier to understand the physiology in the

Dr Gross By Thomas Eakin Analysis
In 1875, Thomas Eakins would paint a portrait that he described as very far better than anything I have
ever done. (232). This portrait became known as The Gross Clink or Portrait of Professor Gross. The
clinic is taking place at the Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia,
PA. The purpose of this paper is to give an analysis of this painting. Elizabeth Johns gives an in depth
look at not only the painting techniques and methods Eakins used but a history of how this painting
came to be. Johns also gives a brief history of how Eakins developed his techniques, Gross s
background, and how the field of surgeon developed. Johns first introduces who is who in the
painting. Beside Dr.Gross the central figure there is the patient on the table, the anesthesiologist Dr.

This color is red. Red is used for the doorway in the back, the heads and hands of the participants. He
also uses pinks, blues, and purples to describe blood stained dressings. The gauze is stained with red

likely symbolizing the blood stained sand in the sandbox under the table (235). Red is also the
dominant color, drawing the viewer s eyes across the painting and to the center. And the scalpel,
covered in blood, brings everything together with his most intense color and his sharpest focus (235).
Not only does Eakins show his ability with colors, he also shows off his expressive brushwork from
Dr. Gross s hair done in dry brush wisps to the short brushings scrubbed over the podium and the

center, is the dominate figure almost hero like while Dr. Briggs, for example, holds the patient with a

The Conversions Of Augustine s Confessions
c Throughout Confessions, Augustine undergoes several conversions that lead to his final conversion.
Beginning when he was only a small child, Augustine experience his first conversion. Raised by a
Catholic mother and Pagan father, Augustine becomes attracted to searching for answers about God.
This conversion, which is a conversion of truth, continues to influence him throughout his second
conversion which takes place throughout his young adulthood. During this conversion, Augustine first
commits to the Christian beliefs intellectually and then shortly after, physically. Inevitably, the
answers and struggles that he experiences during his conversion of truth leads to his acceptance of the
Christian faith. After accepting this faith, Augustine undergoes a third conversion. This conversion is a
conversion of becoming a model of Christ. Augustine s book Confessions shows these conversions
and how they lead to his final conversion. Throughout Augustine s life, he experiences multiple
conversions with the earliest beginning when he was only a school aged boy. This conversion carries
over into his early adulthood and is a conversion of truth. During this time, Augustine becomes
attracted to the Christian beliefs and develops a curiosity for understanding who God is. Since
Augustine was born to a catholic mother, during his childhood he observed men praying and learnt to
do likewise. (Augustine, 11). Augustine practices this observance of prayer in his childhood and prays

Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad vs. Things Fall Apart...
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad and Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe are two novellas
written to make a statement about the struggles of early societies. Both stories stir up moments of
hope, anger, disappointment, despair, and enlightenment in an attempt to inform the reader of the
injustices and societal differences during the 1800 s. Heart of Darkness tells the story from a European
Colonist perspective while Things Fall Apart illustrates the outlook of the African tribe member being
colonized. Throughout this piece I will investigate these unique texts in hopes of revealing the
symbolism behind the trying stories. I will compare and contrast the narratives and decipher the

Some clan members, however, do rebel and burn some of the preachers shelters. This results in a big
meeting, both European and African. At the gathering the tribe members are told to decease from any
future acts of destruction or rebellion. Expecting his fellow people to support him, Okonkwo kills their
leader with his machete. However, when the crowd allows the other Europeans to escape, Okonkwo
realizes that his clan is not willing to go to war. Soon after the murder, Okonkwo prideful character,
and inability to accept defeat, results in his suicide. Heart of Darkness and Things Fall Apart
exemplify two different perspectives of African Literature. In Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad
shows the African Culture through the eyes of the white man or colonizing Europeans. In this story the
native Africans are depicted as vicious savages.
In response to Conrad s stereotypical depiction of Africans, Chinua Achebe wrote Things Fall Apart
through the point of view of the natives to show Africans, not as primitives, but as members of a
thriving society. Things Fall Apart follows Okonkwo s life as he strives for prestige in his community.
When European missionaries come to Umuofia, Okonkwo s clan, Okonkwo tries to protect the culture
that the missionaries would destroy in the name of civilizing the natives. However his rigid mentality
and violent behavior has the opposite of its intended effect, perpetuating the stereotype of the wild

Evolution Of Moths Research Paper
When you say the word Moth , you think about the winged insects that hang around the light on your
porch or yard. Moths can be different in color, shape, or even size. This was also said by David
Moskowitz. These winged insects are food for bats or birds. Some cultures in the world even eat
moths, moths can pollinate plants. In the United States there are up to 10,000 to 11,000 moth species.
If you see a flower that looks fragrant and white, example a yucca plant, it was most likely pollinated
by the moths. Bats use moths as food to fill them up at night. In other cultures around the world,
people use moths as protein to satisfy them. In some african countries it is common to eat moths for
protein.
( Butterflies and Moths of North America) In some countries there are complaints of moths eating
clothes and that they have destroyed blankets or even carpets. They can also be referred to as Webbing
Clothes Moths . These moths can be a ½ inch long, and do not like light much. It might be best to
keep clothes out of closets or drawers. These moths might prefer animal based Materials. An example
of this is leather. A good idea to avoid these type of insect is to vacuum as frequently as possible, and

A prime example of cameo lighting is within the first 5 to 10 seconds of the film there s a key light

The California Gold Rush Of 1849
The California Gold Rush of 1849 was a very influential event in U.S history. It all started in 1848, in
Coloma, California, when a man named James Marshall (See Appendix A) was working on a sawmill
for a man named John Sutter (See Appendix B). He was working near a river and something caught
his eye. When he went to investigate, he realized that he had discovered pure gold! Marshall wanted to
keep this a secret between him and his boss, but word spread quickly, and eventually the whole world
knew about this discovery thanks to the New York Herald, which was the first newspaper to publish an
article about the Gold Rush. Soon enough, many people started to immigrate to California to see if
they could start a new life, and maybe, get rich. While the Gold Rush had many positive impacts to
the State of California, which included economic benefits, they were not necessarily as a result of the
mining of gold, but opportunities created by the influx of people looking to get rich. The economic
opportunities experienced in the State of California as a result of the gold rush included
manufacturing, trade, merchant business, agriculture, entertainment market, and newly formed banks
and financial institutions ( The Impact of Gold 2014). Also, people from different countries like China
came by ship to see if they could strike it rich. People living on the Eastern side of the U.S only had
two routes that they could follow to California, and both took many months and portrayed terrible

The moral idea of this story is that you should pray for calliope because she can change your way of

Accordingly, the child can participate in the ride, stand on the stirrups, all while having fun and
learning about balance and speed. Additionally, parents benefit by having the opportunity to have a
real conversation with his/her child without distractions or having to continually look back. Mac Ride
facilitates a closer connection between parents and children in their bicycle riding experience.
Mac Ride seats are easy to set up and suitable for off road riding, and, therefore, support an active,
engaged experience for children. Once the Mac Ride seat is removed, the only thing left on the bike is
a small spacer ring which blends into the bicycle design and may go completely unnoticed. Easy
removal and installation also allows parents to exchange the Mac Ride child seat quickly so parents
may take turns exploring and sharing their bicycling adventure with their child.
There do exist conventional front mounted bicycle children s seats. However, they have limited space
and children quickly outgrow the plastic seats which are usually clunky, aesthetically unpleasing, and
difficult to maintain. However, Mac Ride has extendable legs and a movable seat, allowing children to
use the seat for a longer duration than other conventional front mounted seats. Depending on the size
of the bike and height of the rider, children as old as 6 can easily use and have fun with Mac Ride.
Furthermore, other front mounted child carriers often force the

The Genre Of Cult Film
The area of study to be explored is genre and my investigation will look into ways we are able to
clarify the vast genre of cult film. Speculated by theorists such as Sconce, Jancovich and many others,
cult film is one of the most diverse and ambiguous genres of the past 60 years in motion picture
history. Beginning in the 1950s with unconventional flicks like Plan 9 from Outer Space and The
Blob, cult film as a quasi genre began to not only reject one set of stylistic conventions, but also
started to expand into various sub genres that it could umbrella . Highlighted by Sconce in his study,
[cult film] would include entries from disparate sub genres such as bad films ...and just about every
other manifestation of exploitation cinema ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to this, those who construct and encode ideologies and messages into cult films need to
know and implement a repertoire of elements that will go against the pleasures of recognition and
provide a more sophisticated and untraditional narrative experience. Whether through manipulating
time and space, or providing powerful subject matter, it is through these technical and visual codes
that the text will continuously challenge audience expectation and draw a preferred or oppositional
reading to the weird and wonderful it tries to represent. As argued by Thornton, it is not defined
according to some single, unifying feature shared by all cult movies, but rather through a sub cultural
ideology in filmmakers, films or audiences are seen as existing in opposition to the mainstream.
Therefore, the audience appeal for cult film is not only through its quirky and abnormal generic
values, but also through the plurality of artistic control that is held by the auteur and its audience s
desires. In order to go into more extensive detail, I have selected Nicolas Winding Refn s Drive and
David Fincher s Fight Club two contrasting texts with diverse ideologies and technical codes yet both

How Is Sledge Changed With The Old Breed

E. B. Sledge: With the Old Breed
Once a person dedicates their life to something, everything unknowingly changes. Becoming a marine
was more than just a career for Sledge. Sledge definitely changed from the time he went to boot camp
until the end of his combat experience in Okinawa. E.B. s nickname was Sledgehammer , it didn t
particularly match his physical appearance though. He was a shy college student, who would not have
been expected to enter any type of war scene, but Sledge had in fact chosen this path for himself. Even
though his family had begged him to stay in college as long as possible and avoid the dangers of the
war scene, he had not only decided to join the Marines, but when he was put into officer training, he
intentionally flunked out in order to enlist as a private. His goal was to see combat before the war was
over. Sledge begins his memoir admitting, like many men of the other men joining him that he was
prompted by a deep feeling of uneasiness that the war might be over before [he] could get overseas
into combat... (5) so he joined the Marines. This shows that he was a little hesitant about the whole
ordeal. Sledge described his feelings as being anxious and on the edge. The book s most evident theme
is the feeling of being of a Marine, what Sledge calls esprit de corps. Sledge provides many examples
throughout the book about how the Marines regularly exposed themselves to fire to retrieve

In Arthur Miller s essay Tragedy and the Common Man , a picture is painted of a flaw full man,
known as the modern hero of tragedies. Miller describes what characteristics the modern tragic hero
possesses and how he differs from the heroes depicted by classic Greek playwrights such as Sophocles
and Aristotle. In order to understand how drastically the modern hero has evolved, one must first
understand the basic characteristics that the heroes created by Sophocles and Aristotle encompass. The
Greek tragic heroes, otherwise known as the protagonists, illustrated by tragic Greek playwrights,
were never normal people. All heroes were citizens of high class, such as princes. This was due in part

Willy is a man whose underlying fear of being displaced has created such a powerful unwillingness to
be submissive to his perception of his loss of dignity, that he believes only death itself will secure him
everlasting admiration. In order to fully appreciate how Willy believes that death will bring him the
dignity that he so desperately craves one must first look at the scene in Death of a Salesman , during
which Willy visits his boss Howard. During his visit Willy tells Howard about an elderly salesman he
met named Dave Singleman and how meeting Dave made Willy realize that selling was the greatest
career a man could want. (Miller 1801) When he died and he died the death of a salesman , Willy tells
Howard, hundreds of salesmen and buyers were at his funeral...In those days there was personality in
it, Howard. There was respect, and comradeship, and gratitude in it (Miller 1801). This quote
demonstrates how Willy believed death would bring him the respect, comradeship, and gratitude that
he never had in life.
As stated in the essay, Arthur Miller describes the modern hero as someone who possesses an
unwillingness to remain passive in the face of what he conceives to be a challenge to his dignity, his
image of his rightful. Examples of this can be seen on pages 1809 through 1810 of the play. This is the

Design By Robert Frost An Exam Essay
In the poem amp;#8220;Design ; by Robert Frost, the classic use of the color white, meaning
innocence and purity is turned around. Instead of giving this color to wholesome, pure objects he
gives them to objects that are the reverse, which are death, darkness and unholy objects.
When I read the poem amp;#8220;Design ; I got the feeling that the author did not feel the same as I
do about the color white. The first line talks about a fat white spider. This line contradicts the
reputation that spiders have. When I see a spider, fat or skinny, it is usually black. I hate spiders and I
would not give them the label as innocent or pure because spiders live in a dirty environment. By ...

Frost talks about the spider on a white heal all holding up a dead white moth. A heal all is a flower
traditionally known for its healing capabilities, but in this poem it is acting as a boxing ring for the
spider and the moth. The moth saw a white spider and figured he was of no harm to him. The spider
used his innocent mask to deceive the moth and then the moth being gullible, was pounced on by the
spider. The deceiving spider then held up the moth for the entire world to see. The moth is also
commonly thought of a gross bug, but they are not harmful. The innocent little moth was tricked and it
cost its life.
I feel that there is a deeper meaning in Frost amp;#8217;s poem. I think he is telling us that any color
can have any meaning. He refers to the spider as being amp;#8220;snow dropped ; which tells the
readers that the spider is innocent. The innocence that this spider has is similar to the innocence of a
toddler who smacks his younger sibling and runs away and immediately begins to do another activity.
The toddler is trying to show that he or she was doing something else and was no way involved with
the incident that took place. The toddler is not doing this because he has a guilty conscience but
because he is trying to escape punishment. The idea behind the spider being white is that the reader is
supposed to look at it and think that that spider couldn amp;#8217;t have killed

If customers have tried breadsticks from these companies and did not like them, then they may think
the same of the stuffed breadsticks from Olive Garden. It is important to market the stuffed breadstick
differently than the low cost breadsticks from the other restaurants.
SWOTT Analysis One useful aid that Team B can use to identify relevant screening criteria and for
zeroing in on a feasible strategy is SWOT analysis. SWOT analysis identifies and lists the strengths
and weaknesses and its opportunities and threats (Perreault, Cannon, McCarthy, 2009). Here are the
strengths and weaknesses and the opportunities and threats for the new breadsticks for Olive Garden.
Two important strengths for Olive Garden is that it is a well know Italian food restaurant and they are
known for their breadsticks. For Olive Garden to add a new line of breadsticks with cheese will be a
nice addition. There are many people who will enjoy the cheese filled breadsticks served with the
marinara sauce on the side. This gives Olive Garden customers a choice on what type they would like
before their dinner, if not both. One weakness that needs to be considered for adding this appetizer

Electronic Devices Are Fragile And Contain Important Data
Final Project. Because electronic devices are fragile and contain important data, it is important to
respect the following procedure when handling them and preparing them for lab observation: 1 I must
first follow the right procedure before proceeding to the packaging which is to properly document the
USB disk by taking pictures to verify or enforce its authenticity, then I ll have to label it properly
which is another way to authenticate it later on, if I need someone else to retrieve it at the lab, or for
easy reconfiguration. Let s not forget the imaging of biological evidence (like hair, tissue, blood, teeth,
etc.) before it gets further analyzed. 2 The packaging can then be done in antistatic packaging, like
paper bags, envelopes, cardboard boxes, or antistatic containers for the fact that they reduce the
production of humidity or static electricity. Since we are dealing with a small device we will use an
envelope for packaging. Furthermore, the packaging should be done in a way that the item will not
bend or be deformed. 3 The last step should be to label the package with my name, date of packaging,
name of item followed by a small description (for instance, white and blue USB flash disk) and
reference pertaining to the case ( for instance, MR Yourprop E0012) * I would ask the lab to look at
possible damage or scratches on the device. This is to see if it has been tampered with (it could have
been done

The Battle Of The Creek
Smog is suffocating the clouds, and leaving it grey. The surrounding sounds of screeching and
machines sputtering to the command of their owners interferes with the soft whispering of the creek
itself. Everyday, every hour, the creek is poisoned. The monsters release their poison from their
chambers and dispose of it into life. Past a certain point, the creek is unable to breathe, and instead of
whispers, you hear gasps. It s dead. Over the generations, especially in this day and age, ecological
problems have become top priority whether it s to presidential debates or the uprising of the
environmentalists who stayed quiet for far too long. It doesn t have to be a large national park, but
observing a not so well known creek like Newtown Creek, represents the sludge and poison
industrialism and the human race itself has force fed nature. Seeing a desolated creek will make
anyone think twice before throwing even a gum wrapper onto the streets instead of the trash can two
feet away. Throughout high school, more awareness was brought upon environmental issues than just
the happy history and science behind the World. I knew a limited amount, which was historical
pollutions such as heavy dumping of chemicals into water sources that have to date tainted them and
killed them off or when it came to the mass deforestation for more industrial sites and how it was
impacting animals, but us in general. The most discussed environmental issue was global warming,
which has strong

  • 2. Robert Redford And Nolte There is only one question that you need to ask yourself before deciding to see A Walk in the Woods : Can you justify sitting through an utterly predictable and rather tame man vs. nature ramble in order to enjoy the affable odd couple chemistry shared by Robert Redford and Nick Nolte? Certainly, it is hard to resist a rare opportunity to observe these seasoned septuagenarians go at it with gusto, especially considering that the only other time Redford and Nolte have been cast mates was in the barely seen 2013 political thriller The Company You Keep. Nowadays, the handsomely rough hewn star of North Dallas Forty looks more like a ruddy faced Yeti while the still fit Sundance Kid is paying the price for all that ultraviolet glare on the ski slopes. But these guys still know how to not just hold our attention but grab it, even if their current film needs them more than they need it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A reunion with his sparring partner in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting, halted by Newman s death in 2008, would have been a must see event. But the ever volatile and gravel voiced Nolte and the perennially cool and smooth talking Redford manage just fine as a bracing pair of fellow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Art of Love The Art of Love Framing for a Misogynist The poetry of Ovid exemplified in The Art of Love is one of the only examples of the contemporary social behavior exhibited during the time of Rome. Ovid writes about social activities, proper style, women, and how to obtain them. Through Ovid s perspective, there are three different ways to consider a woman. These three views include relating a woman to a game, a beautiful treasure, and as a means to assert social status. Comparatively, Andreas Capellanus writes in a way that makes women seem respected, worthy and as something to a man would willingly devote his life to. Both men have a clear fascination with women and their relationship to men. However, their distinct writing styles cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The view Ovid takes on women is not always clear. In some passages he has a violent perspective on women. Ovid writes about how he easily could have taken advantage of women, displaying a negative viewpoint of ownership towards females. Similarly he says never a virgin there was free from the lust of a hand , which shows that men desire women, and a virgin is held as a high prize, one that is worth committing the act of adultery for (Art 1. 89 126). On the other end, Capellanus views the trophy of virginity as futile and counters that while you know some other man is enjoying the embraces of your beloved, this will make you begin to value her solaces all the more (2.2, 3). Furthermore, he makes the argument against adultery, again opposing the views of Ovid. Capellanus explains his argument in detail by stating that a man in love is adorned with the virtue of chastity, because he who shines with the light of one love can hardly think of embracing another woman, even a beautiful one (1.4, 2). Contrary to many men who believe that a man must be strong and not show a woman his tenderness, Ovid shares his heart, saying, do not think it a shame to suffer her blows or her curses; do not think it a shame, stooping, to kiss her feet (Art 2. 522 553) . This is simply an outstanding statement, as it serves to show the true emotion and character of Ovid. This statement cannot be taken lightly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Csr Theories Corporate Social Responsibility Theories: Mapping the Territory Elisabet Garriga, ` ´ Domenec Mele ABSTRACT. The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) field presents not only a landscape of theories but also a proliferation of approaches, which are controversial, complex and unclear. This article tries to clarify the situation, mapping the territory by classifying the main CSR theories and related approaches in four groups: (1) instrumental theories, in which the corporation is seen as only an instrument for wealth creation, and its social activities are only a means to achieve economic results; (2) political theories, which concern themselves with the power of corporations in society and a responsible use of this power in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ó 2004 Kluwer Academic Publishers. Printed in the Netherlands. 52 ` ´ Elisabet Garriga and Domenec Mele questioned as CSR seems to be a consequence of how this relationship is understood (Jones, 1983; McMahon, 1986; Preston, 1975; Wood, 1991b). In order to contribute to a clarification of the field of business and society, our aim here is to map the territory in which most relevant CSR theories and related approaches are situated. We will do so by considering each theory from the perspective of how the interaction phenomena between business and society are focused. As the starting point for a proper classification, we assume as hypothesis that the most relevant CSR theories and related approaches are focused on one of the following aspects of social reality: economics, politics, social integration and ethics. The inspiration for this hypothesis is rooted in four aspects that, according to Parsons (1961), can be observed in any social system: adaptation to the environment (related to resources and economics), goal attainment (related to politics), social integration and pattern maintenance or latency (related to culture and values).1 This hypothesis permits us to classify these theories in four groups: 1. A first group in which it is assumed that the corporation is an instrument for wealth creation and that this is its sole social responsibility. Only the economic aspect of the interactions ... • 5. The Hostility Between the Montagues and the Capulets ... The Hostility Between the Montagues and the Capulets in Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare William Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet has a major theme of conflict. The main conflict in the play is the feud between the two wealthy families: the Montagues and the Capulets . Shakespeare does not state the reason for the hostility between the two families. There are many scenarios in which you can see the good in pro gun control and also other scenarios where con gun control is good. Gun control should not be a plan the U.S government should take because there are many cases in which a firearm will determine you from death or life. Firearms are used defensively roughly 2.5 million times per year, more than four times as many as criminal uses. This amounts to 2,575 lives protected for every life lost to a gun. • 9. Textual Analysis Of The Crucible Textual Analysis The Crucible The text which I have chosen to analyse is from the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, just looking at Act One of this play. In Act One the scene opens in Reverend Parris s house, in the year of 1692; the scene focuses on Betty being ill in bed and laying limp , showing the powerful forces, they believe to be witchcraft has overcome her. This extract highlights the importance of the themes that are throughout the play and the ideas of townspeople s lives in Salem, in which the characters portray. This play is set in a theocratic society, where the church and the state are one, and where the religion is strict and shapes their beliefs. Within this Act the narrator describes Salem town as having a strict Puritan way of life with an outlook on the rest of the world as one of parochial snobbery . One of the most important themes to look at in The Crucible is hysteria. The hysteria is tearing the Salem community apart, it creates people s fear of their neighbours and they believe that friends and even family are committing unbelievable crimes of witchcraft and communicating with the devil. To highlight the theme of hysteria we can see how Tituba is [terrified] and [falls to her knees]; in which she is full of hysteria when questioned by Hale by breaking down and confesses to being a witch, though earlier denying practicing witchcraft. • 13. Discuss Smith s Ideas On The Division Of Labour Explain and Evaluate Smith s Ideas on the Division of Labour: A core part of dominant ideology is the split between state and market is this valid? Is this true? One of Adam Smith s main focuses was the problem of the relationship between money and the state. Adam Smith can be seen as pioneering in questioning the role of the state, as he was seemingly the first to propose a systematic model of the economy that was independent of the state. He attempts to explain how society should organise economics from the perspective of what is naturally occurring. In doing this he finds that what should be and what can be are profoundly interlinked. This revolutionary thinking went against mercantilism, which was the dominant approach of the time period. Mercantilism can be understood as an economic model that was characterized by government intervention. Mercantilism was an alliance between merchants and the state that was premised on increasing the power and wealth of the state through growing certain sections of the economy. It was formed by the concerns of the time, such as a need to maintain new and expensive militaries, the rise of the nation state, and crises and shortages of money. Adam Smith s wrote The Wealth of Nations (1776) primarily as an attack on the economic mercantilist system of the day. Smith aimed to demolish the mercantilist beliefs that money was an end, and that the accumulation of wealth could be identified with the accumulation of money, and to understand ... Some clan members, however, do rebel and burn some of the preachers shelters. This results in a big meeting, both European and African. At the gathering the tribe members are told to decease from any future acts of destruction or rebellion. Expecting his fellow people to support him, Okonkwo kills their leader with his machete. However, when the crowd allows the other Europeans to escape, Okonkwo realizes that his clan is not willing to go to war. Soon after the murder, Okonkwo prideful character, and inability to accept defeat, results in his suicide. Heart of Darkness and Things Fall Apart exemplify two different perspectives of African Literature. In Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad shows the African Culture through the eyes of the white man or colonizing Europeans. In this story the native Africans are depicted as vicious savages. In response to Conrad s stereotypical depiction of Africans, Chinua Achebe wrote Things Fall Apart through the point of view of the natives to show Africans, not as primitives, but as members of a thriving society. Things Fall Apart follows Okonkwo s life as he strives for prestige in his community. When European missionaries come to Umuofia, Okonkwo s clan, Okonkwo tries to protect the culture that the missionaries would destroy in the name of civilizing the natives. However his rigid mentality and violent behavior has the opposite of its intended effect, perpetuating the stereotype of the wild African in the eyes of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moths can be different in color, shape, or even size. This was also said by David Moskowitz. These winged insects are food for bats or birds. Some cultures in the world even eat moths, moths can pollinate plants. In the United States there are up to 10,000 to 11,000 moth species. If you see a flower that looks fragrant and white, example a yucca plant, it was most likely pollinated by the moths. Bats use moths as food to fill them up at night. In other cultures around the world, people use moths as protein to satisfy them. In some african countries it is common to eat moths for protein. • 27. The California Gold Rush Of 1849 The California Gold Rush of 1849 was a very influential event in U.S history. It all started in 1848, in Coloma, California, when a man named James Marshall (See Appendix A) was working on a sawmill for a man named John Sutter (See Appendix B). He was working near a river and something caught his eye. When he went to investigate, he realized that he had discovered pure gold! Marshall wanted to keep this a secret between him and his boss, but word spread quickly, and eventually the whole world knew about this discovery thanks to the New York Herald, which was the first newspaper to publish an article about the Gold Rush. Soon enough, many people started to immigrate to California to see if they could start a new life, and maybe, get rich. While the Gold Rush had many positive impacts to the State of California, which included economic benefits, they were not necessarily as a result of the mining of gold, but opportunities created by the influx of people looking to get rich. The economic opportunities experienced in the State of California as a result of the gold rush included manufacturing, trade, merchant business, agriculture, entertainment market, and newly formed banks and financial institutions ( The Impact of Gold 2014). Also, people from different countries like China came by ship to see if they could strike it rich. Mac Ride seats are easy to set up and suitable for off road riding, and, therefore, support an active, engaged experience for children. Once the Mac Ride seat is removed, the only thing left on the bike is a small spacer ring which blends into the bicycle design and may go completely unnoticed. Easy removal and installation also allows parents to exchange the Mac Ride child seat quickly so parents may take turns exploring and sharing their bicycling adventure with their child. There do exist conventional front mounted bicycle children s seats. However, they have limited space and children quickly outgrow the plastic seats which are usually clunky, aesthetically unpleasing, and difficult to maintain. However, Mac Ride has extendable legs and a movable seat, allowing children to use the seat for a longer duration than other conventional front mounted seats. Depending on the size of the bike and height of the rider, children as old as 6 can easily use and have fun with Mac Ride. Furthermore, other front mounted child carriers often force the ... • 30. The Genre Of Cult Film The area of study to be explored is genre and my investigation will look into ways we are able to clarify the vast genre of cult film. Speculated by theorists such as Sconce, Jancovich and many others, cult film is one of the most diverse and ambiguous genres of the past 60 years in motion picture history. Beginning in the 1950s with unconventional flicks like Plan 9 from Outer Space and The Blob, cult film as a quasi genre began to not only reject one set of stylistic conventions, but also started to expand into various sub genres that it could umbrella . Highlighted by Sconce in his study, [cult film] would include entries from disparate sub genres such as bad films ...and just about every other manifestation of exploitation cinema ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to this, those who construct and encode ideologies and messages into cult films need to know and implement a repertoire of elements that will go against the pleasures of recognition and provide a more sophisticated and untraditional narrative experience. Whether through manipulating time and space, or providing powerful subject matter, it is through these technical and visual codes that the text will continuously challenge audience expectation and draw a preferred or oppositional reading to the weird and wonderful it tries to represent. As argued by Thornton, it is not defined according to some single, unifying feature shared by all cult movies, but rather through a sub cultural ideology in filmmakers, films or audiences are seen as existing in opposition to the mainstream. Therefore, the audience appeal for cult film is not only through its quirky and abnormal generic values, but also through the plurality of artistic control that is held by the auteur and its audience s desires. Sledge: With the Old Breed Once a person dedicates their life to something, everything unknowingly changes. Becoming a marine was more than just a career for Sledge. Sledge definitely changed from the time he went to boot camp until the end of his combat experience in Okinawa. E.B. s nickname was Sledgehammer , it didn t particularly match his physical appearance though. Even though his family had begged him to stay in college as long as possible and avoid the dangers of the war scene, he had not only decided to join the Marines, but when he was put into officer training, he intentionally flunked out in order to enlist as a private. His goal was to see combat before the war was over. Sledge begins his memoir admitting, like many men of the other men joining him that he was prompted by a deep feeling of uneasiness that the war might be over before [he] could get overseas into combat... In order to understand how drastically the modern hero has evolved, one must first understand the basic characteristics that the heroes created by Sophocles and Aristotle encompass. Instead of giving this color to wholesome, pure objects he gives them to objects that are the reverse, which are death, darkness and unholy objects. When I read the poem amp;#8220;Design ; I got the feeling that the author did not feel the same as I do about the color white. The first line talks about a fat white spider. This line contradicts the reputation that spiders have. When I see a spider, fat or skinny, it is usually black. I hate spiders and I would not give them the label as innocent or pure because spiders live in a dirty environment. By ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Frost talks about the spider on a white heal all holding up a dead white moth. A heal all is a flower traditionally known for its healing capabilities, but in this poem it is acting as a boxing ring for the spider and the moth. The moth saw a white spider and figured he was of no harm to him. The spider used his innocent mask to deceive the moth and then the moth being gullible, was pounced on by the spider. The deceiving spider then held up the moth for the entire world to see. The moth is also commonly thought of a gross bug, but they are not harmful. The innocent little moth was tricked and it cost its life. I feel that there is a deeper meaning in Frost amp;#8217;s poem. I think he is telling us that any color can have any meaning. He refers to the spider as being amp;#8220;snow dropped ; which tells the readers that the spider is innocent. The innocence that this spider has is similar to the innocence of a toddler who smacks his younger sibling and runs away and immediately begins to do another activity. The toddler is trying to show that he or she was doing something else and was no way involved with the incident that took place. Because electronic devices are fragile and contain important data, it is important to respect the following procedure when handling them and preparing them for lab observation: 1 I must first follow the right procedure before proceeding to the packaging which is to properly document the USB disk by taking pictures to verify or enforce its authenticity, then I ll have to label it properly which is another way to authenticate it later on, if I need someone else to retrieve it at the lab, or for easy reconfiguration. Since we are dealing with a small device we will use an envelope for packaging. Furthermore, the packaging should be done in a way that the item will not bend or be deformed. 3 The last step should be to label the package with my name, date of packaging, name of item followed by a small description (for instance, white and blue USB flash disk) and reference pertaining to the case ( for instance, MR Yourprop E0012) * I would ask the lab to look at possible damage or scratches on the device.
