Memo On Thanksgiving
The purpose of this memo is to evaluate my Thanksgiving celebration and determine if it reached the
potentials and my expectations of feeling thankful.
This year I did not had a traditional Thanksgiving, but tell you the truth it never is in my home. I am
borne and grew up in a different country, even in a different continent, where we had a different
history and our holidays are somewhat different as well, with view exceptions of New Year on January
1 and Christmas, only the date is different, January 12th. The funniest question I get from people
around the holiday is, What do you cook in your country on Thanksgiving? I have no idea, DAH!!!
I live in America for more than twenty years and I ve learned the American history of the Native

Essay on The Life of Gabriel Garcia Marquez Exposed in...
The Life of Gabriel Garcia Marquez Exposed in His Works
The majority of literary critics would not hesitate in praising the works
of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Garcia Marquez is often considered one of the
greatest writers to come out of Latin America. Born in Aracataca, a small
town in northern Columbia, he was primarily raised by his maternal
grandparents (Britannica). Biographies often indicate a presence of a large
community including an abundance of relatives when describing his upbringing
(Macondo). While he was surrounded by those who loved him he did not live
during a peaceful time in Columbian history (Macondo). His family and the
constant political turmoil of Columbia would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He spent the majority of his adult life in Europe and Mexico
( Macondo). Garcia Marquez actually wrote his masterpiece One Hundred Years
of Solitude in Mexico, exiled from the conservative rule of dictatorial
leaders in Columbia(Garcia Marquez s Labyrinth).
This story is essentially a saga, telling the story of the creation
and growth of Macondo, a fictional town founded by the Buendia family. This
town deals with the arrival of gypsies, civil wars, strife and struggles
with the entrance into a global economy. Garcia Marquez incorporates these
important themes with fantasy tales one describes a birth of a child between
an animal and human. Written within the genre of magic realism (a literary
style that blends fantastic elements with realistic narrative ) (Garcia
Marquez s Labyrinth), Garcia Marquez captures historical events by
essentially re counting his own family history and influence with Columbian
history as a backdrop. These fantasy tales can be linked to the family
tradition of telling fantasy stories, fables and fairy tales (Review). As a
little boy, his grandparents told him countless stories which would have
been a major inspiration in this novel(Macondo). His grandmother also played
a role with her obsession with superstition and magic(Macondo). Garcia
Marques also learned of things mysterious through his grandfather. His

Simone De Beauvoir Female Circumcision
Female Genital Cutting and Western Influence Female Genital Mutilation is practiced in parts of
Africa, Asia, and the Middle East as a way for girls to be inducted into womanhood. This medical
procedure is extremely controversial for it goes against many westernized feminist ideologies. Though
seemingly hurtful and damaging towards the women in these cultures, there are still large amounts of
girls who willingly chose to have this done to them. This conflict of opinions of what is right and what
is wrong to do to women s genitalia has been contested for a long time, and the answer to this question
has not been solved. For one, the answer of what is moral in this situation is different and divided
among all different cultures and societies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feminists such as Simone de Beauvoir who states in The Second Sex, that women are considered the
other to men. De Beauvoir notices how men have been constituted as the positive and neutral in many
societies, which leaves women to be the subordinate nothing. She states, She is simply what man
decrees; thus she is called the sex , by which is meant that she appears essentially to the male as a
sexual being (De Beauvoir 3). This is how many feminists view female circumcision, which entails
three different types of surgeries. The first, clitoridectomy, is the cutting off of the clitoris; excision is
the removal of both the clitoris and the inner labia; while infibulation, is the removal of both the inner
and outer labia usually along with the clitoris (www.who.int). It is clear that some form of sexual
repression and patriarchy is opposed upon women when they chose to undergo anyone of these types
of procedures. However, with the idea that this is done to women to suppress their sexual desires, then
why are so millions of women still choosing to have it done to them? It is clear that the tradition may
impose itself upon them, but they still have a chose of whether or not to have their vaginas
reconstructed. The idea is that many women in such cultures that have the option of having this
surgery done to them do not see it as oppressive; instead they see it as empowering. What we might
find to be oppressive in nature may have a completely different meaning to a culture different then
ours. This is what I wish to emphasize, that though it may be difficult to separate ourselves from our
opinions, we do not give a chance to allow these women who undergo these surgeries to express

Margaret Mead Warfare
In Margaret Mead s Warfare: An Invention Not a Biological Necessity we see her ideas surrounding
the relationship between biological and cultural influences on an aspect of life and society. Mead s
ideas play off of some of the thoughts mentioned in Ruth Benedict s The Individual and the Pattern of
Culture . Benedict mentions how there ...is always a give and take, (114) that is between culture and
the individual. Which can be related to Mead s mention of how war or fighting is dependant on a
culture s need for that kind of outlet. Because Mead was a student of Benedict s when she was a
professor at Columbia University(112) it becomes evident how some of the similarities in their ideas
had developed.
Although Mead s essay is quite specific to the concept of warfare, it is possible to dissect the essay
and find the underlying ideas she has regarding culture. Mead states that A people can use only the
forms it has, (503) meaning that a group or individual only uses the ideas or ways of life that have
been shown or passed down to them, that they wouldn t use a concept that they had not learned. This
idea helps to explain why what one culture deems as normal, another one doesn t understand ... Show

The African American Civil Right Movement
The African American Civil right movement in the late 1950 s and throughout the 1960 s was a
powerful fight for equal opportunities to the basic rights and privileges outlined by the US
government. During this movement thousands of African American individuals and those who
believed in the power of the movement, battled against the piercing white supremacy through various
tactics including grass root movements. The grass root movements in the 60 s was characterized by
organizations of individuals fighting for equality on the behalf of the African Americans, ultimately
shaping American history. Such movements helped to raise awareness on a political level, of the
injustice all African American s endured. Grassroots activist during the 60 s were able to organize
marches, rallies and protests in order to mobilize and strengthen the Civil Rights Movement. Grass
rooting activism during the Civil Rights Movement in the 60 s shaped American History by aiding in
the abolished laws restricting African American s freedom to vote, the abolishment of segregation in
school, and the passage of the Civil Rights act outlawing discrimination.
As the Civil Rights Movement began to take root in the late 1950 s, many grassroots activist worked
towards the creation of many freedom schools in the South to encourage the continuation of the fight
for equality. As tension began to grow between those fighting in the Civil War Movement and those
opposing it, many activist were looking for ways to

Essay on Jerry Sandusky Case
Naomi Abreu
Currently in the news, there is a major event that pertains to the topic of the psychology of trauma.
This event is the investigation of Jerry Sandusky and his alleged conviction of sexual abuse. Jerry
Sandusky, an assistant football coach at Penn State University, has been accused of sexually abusing
boys in the basement of his home and in the school workout room and locker room. This investigation
was triggered by one of the victims who went to the police and since then, more victims have come
out as well. This boy stated that the attacks lasted for about four years. Jerry Sandusky met the boys

However, I would have to agree with the first half and say that Joe Paterno s actions were inadequate.
Although Joe Paterno reported what he saw to the Penn State president his responsibility shouldn t
have ended there. Yes, he fulfilled his obligation to report any illegal actions on campus but when the
Penn State President chose not to take legal action Paterno should have made the moral decision and
had gone to the authorities. Legally, he fulfilled his obligation and therefore no longer holds any
responsibility in the eyes of the legal system. In the eyes of morality though, his responsibility in the
matter was not over just because he reported it to who he was supposed to. This major problem should
have been dealt with a long time ago. It s just a moral obligation that Joe Paterno should have acted
upon. So yes I feel he deserved to be fired. Everyone who knew about it should have reported it to
legal authorities. His great athletic achievements and mutual respect should have pushed towards the
issue being resolved and not swept under the rug for it to come out years after and now resulting in
him being fired. Every action has a reaction and in this case the reaction is due to Paternos lack of
action.
The child sex abuse scandal overall is a public relations disaster that the university is likely to be
dealing with for years to come. I definitely don t believe this case was

Beverly is one of the most integrated areas in hype segregated Chicago. Like that of Hyde Park or
Rodgers Park, except Beverly obtains this diversity without the presence of a university. As well,
Beverly has retained its reputation as one of Chicago s most stable middle class residential districts
(Skerrett 2005). Black families during the 1950s and 60s started moving south as there was the
historical white flight , leaving these communities mainly black. Beverly, however, was the
expectation, as many black families did not come immediately here (Moore 2014). Demographically
today, Beverly is 57% white, 35% black, and 5.6% Hispanic, making it the 15th largest white

Battle Of The Confederate Essay
In the heat of battle, against her own people, America fights the most destructive war to the country,
which killed more of her own lives than any other war in history. The United States, not nearly as
united as before, started splitting in two when in 1860, South Carolina seceded from the Union,
quickly followed by other Southern states, forming the 11th state, the Confederacy. Since the Southern
states used agriculture done by slaves as their economy, when Northern states started opposing slavery
s extension into the West, the Southerners feared they would lose their main money source. The
Confederacy was founded upon the truth that the Negro does not equal the white man (The Civil War).

The Army of the Potomac was the largest Union Army in the Civil War, and it fought in many
important battles ( Army Of The Potomac ). The Confederate cavalry was said to have given three
options when being faced run, surrender, or die. The Federal cavalry knew they had to improve their
unequipped and unorganized fighting force if they were ever going to get a chance to claim victory.
Hooker s ultimate goal was to crush Robert E. Lee in battle, so he took the cavalry, reformed it, and
made it a new force of over 2,000 men, which acted as a single body ( The Battle of Kelly s Ford
Summary Facts ). This was the largest cavalry force to be put together by a lone commander up to that
point. Control of this force was given to Averell. With this new army, they would have a chance to
change the course of the war in their favor. After the renovation, Hooker wanted a place to test his new
brigade and turn the tables on the Confederates, so he chose Fitzhugh Lee s fort at Kelly s Ford on the
Rappahannock River. He figured he could show the Confederates how good the Unions can be if they
are organized. Now that the battle was set in place, the real course changing fight could

Fear, an emotion that boost hearts rate and creates tear stain faces. Most fears are common among
multiple people, slimy, weird shapes, and the unknown can use to describe those fears. However, my
fear does not include those characteristics, but an action that has scared me since I was a child. An
adult acting like a toddler is an action that terrifies me. My older sister, Tiffany would do it a lot when
I was a child and it would make me wail. Now, as a twenty year old woman, I still tear up when

You can very quickly tell whether you have built a poor connector on either end, or if you do not have
a solid connection to the switching hardware device. On the cost side, I would contend that the support
for future growth in bandwidth and error minimization should easily offset the cost difference.
On the distribution layer, I would suggest using V LAN devices that are interconnected. By using V
LAN devices you can easily provision separate LANs on each floor while still supporting any network
changes in the future. V LAN devices can provide both switching and routing capabilities because
they act as both layer 2 and layer 3 devices. This is a huge advantage in the fact that you can provision
separate subnets for each LAN while still allowing certain IPs the ability to communicate to either
subnet. This is setup in the router side of the V LAN software. The V LAN also easily supports the
adding of more user machines (with enough fiber runs established) electronically. Opponents will say
that V LANs required the added expenses of more knowledge and management than the more
standard design of separate physical switches and routers. I agree, but we have to keep in mind that
this is a new construction process. We want to ensure that we have appropriate hardware to support

Standardized Terminologies In Nursing Practice
Applying Standardized Terminologies in Practice Hyperhemesis gravidarum is a condition in which
the pregnant woman experiences severe nausea and vomiting. Although the causes of hyperemesis
gravidarum are not well known; however, many believe that elevated blood level of human chorionic
gonadotopin (HCG) may be a contributing factor of this condition. Currently the cause of nausea and
vomiting in pregnancy is unknown, although there is strong evidence linking human chorionic
gonadotropin or estrogens as well as genetic susceptibility possibly mediated through the
vestibuloocular reflex pathway (Fejzo et al., 2012). The following case scenario refers to a 22 weeks

Nursing terminologies also help nurses to plan care that reflects the patient s needs, anticipate these
needs, and intervene accordingly. In addition, nursing informatics makes the use of standardized

from those of other disciplines. Thus, the standardization of nursing terminologies with documented
nursing diagnoses, nursing interventions, and patient outcomes is important to nursing practice
because it unifies the language among nurses and other healthcare providers, which will have a

A Brief Note On The World Wide Web
The world wide web has a wide range of uses. From finding resources for research papers to

be a great platform to find information, not all of the information out there is credible and thus using
the internet in place of a doctor is not acceptable and needs to stop, or at least be carried out warily.
It is understandable why one would prefer a quick Google search over a trip to the doctor s office. The

Sex Workers And The Rights Of Human Trafficking And Human...
When you hear about human trafficking, most people do not think about it going on their own
backyard. At the same time, there is the occasional news story about prostitution, in one way or
another. Although the deeper problems underlying the two topics are rarely spoken about in a public
forum, the relationship between the two are incredibly important in the protection of trafficking
victims and the preservation of rights of legitimate sex workers. The sex workers rights movement is
important in understanding the position sex workers have as workers and members of a community
tainted by illegal trafficking. Human sex trafficking is the movement of people, by force, into the sex
trade, or other forced labor. Yes, sex workers should have their profession considered as a legitimate
sector. Yes, human sex trafficking should be stopped. While both of those things are true it is
important to consider all aspects of both to form a movement directed at the two, rather than focus on
strictly one or the other. A movement that is geared towards creating an even ground between the
rights of individuals to use their sexuality to make an honest living, and the protection of individuals
from the exploitation of that very same sexuality, is pivotal in the continuation of protecting human
rights across the globe. By examining how several, very different, countries deal with sex work and
human trafficking, we can attempt to understand how we can move forward with a new more complex

corridor at all the luxuries and peering out onto the beautifully paved streets! Well, it used to not be
that way, It used to be Heaven, a Heaven full of trash, manure, mud, sewage, germs, and blood, lots of
blood. So much blood that certain parts were permanently stained and this blood wasn t animals
blood. It was the blood of hundreds of thousands of severed heads that filled France and conquered the
monarchy leaving a filthy stench in its wake. This was all thanks to the guillotine, the modernized way
for the death sentence and capital punishment So over all the guillotine got its name from being a

The people in charge of the beheading was the committee of safety , they were also the government of
France at the time. During the reign of terror 300,000 suspects were arrested, 17,000 were officially
executed, and 10,000 died in prison or without a trial. The guillotine was the prime symbol of the
reign of terror, this terror was led by Maximilien Robespierre and he truly showed terror. at this point

High Schools And Public Schools
Growing up in a district area is much more different in many ways than growing up in a big city,
where people have more guidance and facilities in almost every part of life than people living in any
small town or district. The part of the country where I grew up had separated schools for girl and boys.
Co education was not common. The population was between 0.2 million to 0.3 million. There were
few elementary public schools and public high schools. Peoples education was really effected by the
social culture, and by a lot of authorities negligence of the law. A part of the district area where I grew
up is called Hangu. It was a man dominated society. It was the notion that an education is more
important for a man than a woman. It was the traditional belief that education is more important for
men then a women because men need to have an education to get a job, to establish his own business,
to understand and deal with the people, and to take care of his family. It was a dominated traditional
belief that women should have a direct in social life and be in charge of the house, doing chores, and
raising up children. However, it was also the notion that women should have an enough education to
read and write and understand what is right and wrong, so that they help and involve in their children
education and produce better, well raised generation to improve society. Peoples lives were more

Gabriel Conroy As A Repetitive Life In The Dead By James...
Being stuck in a repetitive life causes people to be disillusioned to true meanings of life and feelings
of others, while also becoming emotionally distant themselves. Having a traditional lifestyle
consisting of the same routines separates those who are living a life of passion with those who are
unable to see their uninteresting existence. In the novella The Dead by James Joyce, he uses
symbolism and contrast to portray Gabriel Conroy as a dynamic character who turns his ignorant, self
satisfied and repetitive life into a journey of self discovery. who leads an unfulfilled, apathetic, and
ignorant life through the use of symbolism and contrast Throughout the short story, Joyce uses the
literary device symbolism to show how Gabriel Conroy comes to the realization of his unsatisfying
life and that he thinks more about his unimportant actions, desires, and tedious routines than being
passionate and having an impactful life. One example of a symbol the author uses is snow, which has
multiple representations for Gabriel. Towards the beginning of the book it indicates death, paralysis,
and hidden truth, while at the end it symbolizes him seeking a new beginning filled with purity. For
instance, the quote A light fringe of snow lay like a cape on the shoulders of his overcoat and like
toecaps on the toes of his goloshes... (139) illustrates the connection Gabriel has with death as it is
metaphorically visible on him, and shows that it not only is impending on him, but

Effect of Surface Area to Volume Ratio on Rate of Osmosis
[Type text] [Type text] [Type text]
_An experiment on the effect of surface area to volume ratio on the rate of osmosis of Solanum
tuberosum L._
BACKGROUND
A cell needs to perform diffusion in order to survive. Substances, including water, ions, and molecules
that are required for cellular activities, can enter and leave cells by a passive process such as diffusion.
Diffusion is random movement of molecules in a net direction from a region of higher concentration
to a region of lower concentration order to reach equilibrium. Diffusion does not require any energy
input. Diffusion is needed for basic cell functions for example, in humans, cells obtain oxygen via
diffusion from the alveoli of the lungs into the blood and in plants water ... Show more content on

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the potato cube with the highest surface area to volume ratio (the 1x1x1 cube) had the
fastest rate of diffusion as it had the largest percentage increase in mass. While all the other cubes of
potato had larger increases in mass at face value compared to the smallest cube, the smallest cube had
the largest overall gain in percentage. The results support my hypothesis that the smallest cube will
have a higher rate of osmosis because it has a proportionally larger amount of surface area compared
to its volume.
As seen from the graph above, despite my hypothesis being correct, the trend in the percentage
increase of mass was not a steady

Internal Controls Of A Sports Coach
1. For a collage sports coach to win as many games as possible, it is imperative that the coach studies

Summary Of Pirates Of Barbary By Adrian Tinniswood

Section 10
Reading Review of Pirates of Barbary
The Book is written by Adrian Tinniswood. Before I read the book I think pirates are rude and violent
men, after I read the book I think pirates can be romantic and living for pirates can be jolly. There is
always piracy on the sea since the days of commerce. Through the history of Europe, especially in the
seventeenth century, piracy become a part of European history. The pirates seemed mysterious. Even
in this wonderful book, there are not many part describes the pirates, it counties to be mysterious. I
think it leaves room for reader s imagination.
The geographical area in which piracy took place was mainly the Mediterranean. Barbary piracy
became a very threatening thing. There were many Muslim pirates attacked ships, enslaved crews,
plundered cargoes and held numerous captives in their respective areas or countries, but it was done
by the Muslims, there were even Christians engaged in this event as well. That time they didn t have
many job to live for. since piracy can get wealth very quickly. It kinds to become a culture alone the
Barbary Coast. The violence accompanies with many facts, circumstance, history, ideology, the
opportunity to strike. It became their job.
Who are the victims? Christians. The Barbary Coast was Islamic. It was like a clash of religion,
Islamic versus Christians. For Islamic, they thought pirates to a way of jihadist. However, for

The Effect Of Administrative Turnover On Curriculum Essay

The Effect of Administrative Turnover on Curriculum
Introduction Even while 15 30% of schools in the United States experience administrative turnover
each year (Béteille, Kalogrides, Loeb, 2011, p. 3), it is very rare for schools to experience it on a
continual basis where it occurs every other year. Yet, this is the case in the school where I work. Over
the past 8 years, the school has had four different administrators in charge of the building and district
(the district is made up of one K 8 school). Each change in leadership has brought with it a change in
educational focus, philosophy, and goals. Though the staff has hailed some changes and hated others,
people s major concern is that there has been little to no consistency in curriculum over the past
decade, particularly in the elementary classrooms. The purpose of this literature review is to identify
the different ways teachers can overcome administrative turnover in order to maintain current
curriculum. This review will also identify the optimal amount of time administrators should remain at
one school and district in order to positively affect student achievement through curriculum
development.
Background
Because the Moonachie School district consists of one K 8 school, it has a superintendent/principal in
charge of all aspects of the district and a director of curriculum who acts more as an assistant principal
than a director of curriculum. Over the last 6 years, the district

Preventing Juvenile Crime
WHAT DO WE NEED TO KNOW FOR PREVENTING JUVENILE CRIME?
Each individual lives in the US nowadays is influenced by juvenile crime. It sways parents, neighbors,
teachers, and families. It influences the sufferers of crime, the executors, and the witness. While crime
rates have been declining, rates remains high. There have been numerous programs that have tried to
lower this rate. A few are truly unbeaten, whereas a lot of others have least or no impact. These
programs are ravage of our sources. It is important to verify the effectiveness of various programs, and
to distinguish what will work and what doesn t. In this manner, the most thriving programs can be
executed and enhanced, while those that don t work are stopped.
An amount of various kinds of programs presently exist. Those that get engaged with the antisocial
following the incidence of deviant actions inclined to be less booming, from the time when that point
of disruptive practice are well developed. More successful programs are ones that intercede prior to
the start of antisocial actions and avoid those actions prevention programs. By getting involved in
children s lives in a timely manner, later crime can be effectively reduced (Zagar, Busch, and Hughes,
2009). Prevention programs certainly impact the common public as they end this transgression from
occurring in the first place. And there are even several deterrence programs that are more booming
than others. One feature of remarkably winning deterrence

The second piece was Ahnung, a new discovery piece from Kinderszenen. This piece was U.S.

I also enjoyed listening to this piece Fantasiestucke, Opus 88. This piece was played in Romanze and
duet, and was performed by the pianist Luiza Borac, violinist Vladimir Dyo, and cellist Yves
Dharamraj. After a deep sesearch about this piece I find out that the work was came at a happy time in
the composer s life: Schumann had married his beloved Clara Wieck in 1840 after her father had made
many attempts to thwart their matrimonial plans. The four pieces, or movements, comprising the trio
are Romanze, Humoreske, Duett, and Finale. During this program I feel that the Romanze opens in a
tentative, mysterious mood, but then turns warmly Romantic, the piano dominating throughout. The
Duett that follows, marked Slowly and with feeling, is for cello and violin, the piano providing a soft,
running accompaniment to their passionate singing. The Finale, designated in March tempo, exhibits a
heroic character at the outset, but turns lighter and more playful in succeeding variations. The main
theme returns and the subdued, lively ending are sheer magic in its feathery nonchalance, its graceful
instrumental exchanges,

AIDS In Cry Freedom, Malcolm X, And Cry Freedom
Whether it is Tom Hanks from Forrest Gump or Julia Roberts from Erin Brockovich, actors and
actresses have the power to leave movie goers thinking. Along with the writer, director, producer and
about a hundred others, actors have some impact on what viewers feel. Denzel Washington is an actor
who is constantly involved in influential movies. Denzel Washington s roles in dissenting voice films
like Philadelphia, Fences, Malcolm X, and Cry Freedom leave viewers discussing and emotionally
reacting to opinions that differ from the majority. Philadelphia introduces justice and the social issues,
prejudice and discrimination, that comes from sexual orientation and a medical diagnosis. Fences
highlights discrimination and delivers a message on the meaning of life and all that comes with it.
Malcolm X gives viewers a look at politics, transformations, and discrimination while Cry Freedom
sheds light on the political corruption, friendship, and race relations in South Africa. In 1993,
Philadelphia was released starring Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks. Washington played a
homophobic lawyer, Joe Miller who, unwilling at first, eventually helps a man, Andrew Beckett
(Hanks) who believes he was wrongly fired from his job after a co worker saw what was assumed to
be signs and symptoms of HIV. This film is based off the true story of Geoffrey Bowers and
introduces the social and medical fear that surrounds AIDS and the people who have it. The main

How Social And Political Procedures Affects Resilience At...
This paper has demonstrated and examines how series of social and political procedure affects
resilience at various spatial scales. Resilience is defined as the ability of individuals or communities to
withstand and rebound from sudden natural disaster [earthquake, flood or hurricane] that accounts for
the loss of life and properties. However, the definition of resilience is broad as resilience thinkers
[Charles Holling and Neil Adger] have argued differently. For example, Holling defines resilience as
the ability of a system to absorb change of state variable, driving variables, and parameters, and still
persist (Holling, 1973), while Adger, defines resilience as the ability of groups or communities to cope
with external stresses and disturbances as a result of social, political and environmental change
(Adger, 2000). Understandably, thinker like Adger and Holling as Climate Change thinkers within the
academic space have a different opinion to what constitutes the impact of climate change and best
possible approaches needed towards building resilience within social and political frameworks.
This paper argues prevalently that, resilience is shaped by social and political discourse emphasizing
on vulnerability and climate change adaptation methods such as Livelihood and Economic
Diversification (LED) and Community based adaptation (CBA). The essay further argues that
resilience is debated at multi levels [local, state, and global] but global policy makers often dominate

Summer Vacation
It s not often that our family gets to fly back to the states to visit family so when my brother and I flew
back during the summer of 2015, we were more than excited to be going back to South Carolina to see
close relatives that we d been missing. Since our relatives live on the coast it is often customary to
visit the beach during our vacation to kick back and enjoy ourselves. After moving to Germany our
experience with the sun and beach had been little to none. Needless to say, we were all excited to be
going to the beach again since it had been some years and we d forgotten what it was like to be at one.
That summer vacation my brother and I were quickly reminded of all the fun to be had, the people we
could meet, and the lessons we could learn while we were at the beach. When first arriving at the
beach we were greeted by the sights of wet sand, crashing waves, strong blowing winds, and a hot
radiating sun. After the initial setup of towels, umbrellas, and applying of sunscreen my cousins,
brother and I bolted for the waves that rose up the shore. Swimming in a pool is nothing like
swimming in the ocean, everything felt more extreme as we floated over waves and were dragged
around by the current. It wasn t long until my brother and I were reminded of a childhood joy of ours,
which was facing off against the waves. We would swim to a place where we could stand firmly and
try to remain standing as waves would crash down often taking us with them. When we d finish our

A Girl Like Me Oppression
Frye (2014) points out that the root of the word oppression is press , meaning to mold, to reduce:
something pressed is caught between two forces whose ultimate goal is to restrain them. Oppression,
just a Frye explains, is to restrict natural rights and movement in society. These restrictions and
pressure greatly affect how the oppressed view themselves and, from a young age, can create low self
esteem and a hopeless feeling. In the film, A Girl Like Me , young African American women speak
about how society s oppression has affected them and their friends. For these young women and many
others oppression has created an invisible battle which they must fight in every day. It is assumed that
progress has been made in racial equality in the last ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Especially for black women who face a double jeopardy for being both female and African American
(Marigisila and Kulis 2014). From a young age, America s youth is shown what is acceptable in
society and what society values through the media, schools, and their families. African American girls
learn that they do not fit that norm and it becomes clearer as they get older ( Davis 2005 ). This group
is told that they are inferior and should want to have light skin and straight blonde hair just like the
Barbie s they play with. Young (2014) explains that the dominant culture will reinforce culture
imperialism by trying to bring the inferior group under the measures of the dominant norm. Cultural
imperils is a form of oppression that reinforces the dominant culture through devaluing the minorities
culture and establishing the dominant culture as the better , more desired culture. Davis (2005 ) shows
in her short film that many African American girls feel uncomfortable with their skin color and, from a

A Critical Analysis Of Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
Shirley Jackson s short story The Lottery is set in a small village who relies deeply on their crops. This
story is about a sacrifice that takes place every year in which the heads of households draw for their
families in order to see who wins and saves the town. The readers grow close to a character named
Tessie who decides to speak her mind when it s too late. In the end, the townsfolk realise that what
comes around goes around. Before the ceremony started, Tessie Hutchinson was almost late. Instead
of apologizing, she joked and acted as if it was nothing. This day is one of the most important days of
the year for the town folk, it should not be easily forgotten. When she finally arrived the first thing she
said was, Clean forgot what day it was... and then I looked out the window and the kids was gone, and
then I remembered it was the twenty seventh and came a running, instead of formally addressing the
serious situation and apologizing, she gave an inadequate excuse. Tessie was so late that people knew
that her priorities aren t in the right places. By the time she had gotten there, people started to think
she wasn t going to show up without notice, we can recall a few people saying, Bill, she made it after
all. Tessie had sentenced herself to her death before the ceremony could even start. Shortly after Tessie
arrived she talked with the surrounding people. If talking wasn t enough she even joked with some of

1. Authorization:
Authorization is the act of checking to determine if a user has the proper permission to access a file or
perform an action, after the user has properly identified themselves through authentication
(Username/Password). Authorization is provided to users based on a job requirement or a need to
know that allows them to access the required material. Authorization is usually determined when a
user first gains access to a system but may change over time. If a change occurs that requires more or
less authorization for a particular employee, the concerned supervisor should contact the appropriate
authority to make the change.
2. Identification:
Identification is the means through which a user is associated with and gains access to an account. The
most common form of identification in use with computer systems is through the use of a username.
Other systems use Common Access Cards (CAC), smart cards, or tokens combined with a pin code
that allow for access to a system. More complex, high security systems might use some form of
biometric to associate a user with an account and permission set. Biometrics include: fingerprint, iris
scan, facial scan etc.. something that is unique to the particular person that cannot be easily altered.

Essay about Surrealism and Radically New Approach
1. Use the words relativity and uncertainty in a paragraph that describes the revolution in modern
physics that took place in the early twentieth century. Modern physicists found, however, that at the
physical extremes of nature the microcosmic realm of atomic particles and the macrocosmic world of
heavy astronomical bodies the laws of Newton s principia did not apply. German physicist, Albert
Einstein, made public his special theory of relativity, a radically new approach to the new concepts of
time, space, motion, and light. Building on Einstein s theories, Werner Heisenberg theorized that since
the very act of measuring subatomic phenomena altered them, the position and the velocity of a

5. How did the media of photography and film respond to the modernist aesthetic? Photography was
an ideal medium with which to explore the payers of the unconscious mind. Modernist photographers
experimented with double exposure and unusual new effects similar to those of visionary Surrealist
painters and sculptors. A champion of the technique, Raoul Hausmann, called photomontage the
alienation of photography . By this, he implied that photomontage destroyed the role of photography
as a medium of recreating physical reality. But the statement also suggests that by its dependence on
fragmentation and dislocation, photomontage offered a visually and conceptually new image of the
chaos of an age of war and revolution. 7. Create a stream of consciousness diary entry of your

effectively than a narrative description of them might? When I woke up in the morning, first thing I

This year I did not had a traditional Thanksgiving, but tell you the truth it never is in my home. I am borne and grew up in a different country, even in a different continent, where we had a different history and our holidays are somewhat different as well, with view exceptions of New Year on January 1 and Christmas, only the date is different, January 12th. The funniest question I get from people around the holiday is, What do you cook in your country on Thanksgiving? I have no idea, DAH!!! The Life of Gabriel Garcia Marquez Exposed in His Works The majority of literary critics would not hesitate in praising the works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Garcia Marquez is often considered one of the greatest writers to come out of Latin America. Born in Aracataca, a small town in northern Columbia, he was primarily raised by his maternal grandparents (Britannica). Biographies often indicate a presence of a large community including an abundance of relatives when describing his upbringing (Macondo). While he was surrounded by those who loved him he did not live during a peaceful time in Columbian history (Macondo). His family and the constant political turmoil of Columbia would ... Garcia Marquez actually wrote his masterpiece One Hundred Years of Solitude in Mexico, exiled from the conservative rule of dictatorial leaders in Columbia(Garcia Marquez s Labyrinth). This story is essentially a saga, telling the story of the creation and growth of Macondo, a fictional town founded by the Buendia family. This town deals with the arrival of gypsies, civil wars, strife and struggles with the entrance into a global economy. Garcia Marquez incorporates these important themes with fantasy tales one describes a birth of a child between an animal and human. Written within the genre of magic realism (a literary

These fantasy tales can be linked to the family tradition of telling fantasy stories, fables and fairy tales (Review). • 6. Simone De Beauvoir Female Circumcision Female Genital Cutting and Western Influence Female Genital Mutilation is practiced in parts of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East as a way for girls to be inducted into womanhood. This medical procedure is extremely controversial for it goes against many westernized feminist ideologies. Though seemingly hurtful and damaging towards the women in these cultures, there are still large amounts of girls who willingly chose to have this done to them. This conflict of opinions of what is right and what is wrong to do to women s genitalia has been contested for a long time, and the answer to this question has not been solved. For one, the answer of what is moral in this situation is different and divided among all different cultures and societies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Feminists such as Simone de Beauvoir who states in The Second Sex, that women are considered the other to men. De Beauvoir notices how men have been constituted as the positive and neutral in many societies, which leaves women to be the subordinate nothing. She states, She is simply what man decrees; thus she is called the sex , by which is meant that she appears essentially to the male as a sexual being (De Beauvoir 3). This is how many feminists view female circumcision, which entails three different types of surgeries. The first, clitoridectomy, is the cutting off of the clitoris; excision is the removal of both the clitoris and the inner labia; while infibulation, is the removal of both the inner and outer labia usually along with the clitoris (www.who.int). It is clear that some form of sexual repression and patriarchy is opposed upon women when they chose to undergo anyone of these types of procedures. However, with the idea that this is done to women to suppress their sexual desires, then why are so millions of women still choosing to have it done to them? It is clear that the tradition may impose itself upon them, but they still have a chose of whether or not to have their vaginas reconstructed. The idea is that many women in such cultures that have the option of having this surgery done to them do not see it as oppressive; instead they see it as empowering. What we might find to be oppressive in nature may have a completely different meaning to a culture different then ours. This is what I wish to emphasize, that though it may be difficult to separate ourselves from our opinions, we do not give a chance to allow these women who undergo these surgeries to express ... • 7. Margaret Mead Warfare In Margaret Mead s Warfare: An Invention Not a Biological Necessity we see her ideas surrounding the relationship between biological and cultural influences on an aspect of life and society. Mead s ideas play off of some of the thoughts mentioned in Ruth Benedict s The Individual and the Pattern of Culture . Benedict mentions how there ...is always a give and take, (114) that is between culture and the individual. Which can be related to Mead s mention of how war or fighting is dependant on a culture s need for that kind of outlet. Because Mead was a student of Benedict s when she was a professor at Columbia University(112) it becomes evident how some of the similarities in their ideas had developed. Although Mead s essay is quite specific to the concept of warfare, it is possible to dissect the essay and find the underlying ideas she has regarding culture. Mead states that A people can use only the forms it has, (503) meaning that a group or individual only uses the ideas or ways of life that have been shown or passed down to them, that they wouldn t use a concept that they had not learned. Jerry Sandusky, an assistant football coach at Penn State University, has been accused of sexually abusing boys in the basement of his home and in the school workout room and locker room. This investigation was triggered by one of the victims who went to the police and since then, more victims have come out as well. This boy stated that the attacks lasted for about four years. However, I would have to agree with the first half and say that Joe Paterno s actions were inadequate. Although Joe Paterno reported what he saw to the Penn State president his responsibility shouldn t have ended there. Yes, he fulfilled his obligation to report any illegal actions on campus but when the Penn State President chose not to take legal action Paterno should have made the moral decision and had gone to the authorities. Legally, he fulfilled his obligation and therefore no longer holds any responsibility in the eyes of the legal system. In the eyes of morality though, his responsibility in the matter was not over just because he reported it to who he was supposed to. This major problem should have been dealt with a long time ago. It s just a moral obligation that Joe Paterno should have acted upon. So yes I feel he deserved to be fired. Everyone who knew about it should have reported it to legal authorities. His great athletic achievements and mutual respect should have pushed towards the issue being resolved and not swept under the rug for it to come out years after and now resulting in him being fired. Every action has a reaction and in this case the reaction is due to Paternos lack of action. The child sex abuse scandal overall is a public relations disaster that the university is likely to be dealing with for years to come. I definitely don t believe this case was ... Like that of Hyde Park or Rodgers Park, except Beverly obtains this diversity without the presence of a university. As well, Beverly has retained its reputation as one of Chicago s most stable middle class residential districts (Skerrett 2005). Black families during the 1950s and 60s started moving south as there was the historical white flight , leaving these communities mainly black. Beverly, however, was the expectation, as many black families did not come immediately here (Moore 2014). His answers were quite different than his mothers. Nick did know what a food desert and food access meant, designating that he has some prior knowledge that will aid in the discussion of the food environment of Beverly. Nick states that the food environment is great (in Beverly). There are numerous restaurants and grocery stores every couple of miles. It takes minutes to get to a place that sells food . This contrast from his mother s thought may be due to his understanding of what a food desert is. In regards to fast food, Nick says that there are a ton and around 10 (restaurants) within five miles of his house, but not as much as fast food joints . Also in opposition to his mother, Nick was unaware of any farmer s markets. This could be due to the fact that he does not do the family food shopping, but is interesting to note. The United States, not nearly as united as before, started splitting in two when in 1860, South Carolina seceded from the Union, quickly followed by other Southern states, forming the 11th state, the Confederacy. Since the Southern states used agriculture done by slaves as their economy, when Northern states started opposing slavery s extension into the West, the Southerners feared they would lose their main money source. The Confederacy was founded upon the truth that the Negro does not equal the white man (The Civil War). Lincoln did not want to start a war with his own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Army of the Potomac was the largest Union Army in the Civil War, and it fought in many important battles ( Army Of The Potomac ). The Confederate cavalry was said to have given three options when being faced run, surrender, or die. The Federal cavalry knew they had to improve their unequipped and unorganized fighting force if they were ever going to get a chance to claim victory. Hooker s ultimate goal was to crush Robert E. Lee in battle, so he took the cavalry, reformed it, and made it a new force of over 2,000 men, which acted as a single body ( The Battle of Kelly s Ford Summary Facts ). This was the largest cavalry force to be put together by a lone commander up to that point. Control of this force was given to Averell. With this new army, they would have a chance to change the course of the war in their favor. After the renovation, Hooker wanted a place to test his new brigade and turn the tables on the Confederates, so he chose Fitzhugh Lee s fort at Kelly s Ford on the Rappahannock River. He figured he could show the Confederates how good the Unions can be if they are organized. Now that the battle was set in place, the real course changing fight could ... You can very quickly tell whether you have built a poor connector on either end, or if you do not have a solid connection to the switching hardware device. On the cost side, I would contend that the support for future growth in bandwidth and error minimization should easily offset the cost difference. On the distribution layer, I would suggest using V LAN devices that are interconnected. By using V LAN devices you can easily provision separate LANs on each floor while still supporting any network changes in the future. V LAN devices can provide both switching and routing capabilities because they act as both layer 2 and layer 3 devices. This is a huge advantage in the fact that you can provision separate subnets for each LAN while still allowing certain IPs the ability to communicate to either subnet. This is setup in the router side of the V LAN software. The V LAN also easily supports the adding of more user machines (with enough fiber runs established) electronically. Opponents will say that V LANs required the added expenses of more knowledge and management than the more standard design of separate physical switches and routers. I agree, but we have to keep in mind that this is a new construction process. We want to ensure that we have appropriate hardware to support future growth potential whether it is in ... At the same time, there is the occasional news story about prostitution, in one way or another. Although the deeper problems underlying the two topics are rarely spoken about in a public forum, the relationship between the two are incredibly important in the protection of trafficking victims and the preservation of rights of legitimate sex workers. The sex workers rights movement is important in understanding the position sex workers have as workers and members of a community tainted by illegal trafficking. Human sex trafficking is the movement of people, by force, into the sex trade, or other forced labor. Yes, sex workers should have their profession considered as a legitimate sector. Yes, human sex trafficking should be stopped. While both of those things are true it is important to consider all aspects of both to form a movement directed at the two, rather than focus on strictly one or the other. A movement that is geared towards creating an even ground between the rights of individuals to use their sexuality to make an honest living, and the protection of individuals from the exploitation of that very same sexuality, is pivotal in the continuation of protecting human rights across the globe. Being stuck in a repetitive life causes people to be disillusioned to true meanings of life and feelings of others, while also becoming emotionally distant themselves. Having a traditional lifestyle consisting of the same routines separates those who are living a life of passion with those who are unable to see their uninteresting existence. Towards the beginning of the book it indicates death, paralysis, and hidden truth, while at the end it symbolizes him seeking a new beginning filled with purity. Yet, this is the case in the school where I work. Over the past 8 years, the school has had four different administrators in charge of the building and district (the district is made up of one K 8 school). Each change in leadership has brought with it a change in educational focus, philosophy, and goals. Though the staff has hailed some changes and hated others, people s major concern is that there has been little to no consistency in curriculum over the past decade, particularly in the elementary classrooms. Philadelphia introduces justice and the social issues, prejudice and discrimination, that comes from sexual orientation and a medical diagnosis. Fences highlights discrimination and delivers a message on the meaning of life and all that comes with it. Malcolm X gives viewers a look at politics, transformations, and discrimination while Cry Freedom sheds light on the political corruption, friendship, and race relations in South Africa. • 34. How Social And Political Procedures Affects Resilience At... This paper has demonstrated and examines how series of social and political procedure affects resilience at various spatial scales. Resilience is defined as the ability of individuals or communities to withstand and rebound from sudden natural disaster [earthquake, flood or hurricane] that accounts for the loss of life and properties. However, the definition of resilience is broad as resilience thinkers [Charles Holling and Neil Adger] have argued differently. For example, Holling defines resilience as the ability of a system to absorb change of state variable, driving variables, and parameters, and still persist (Holling, 1973), while Adger, defines resilience as the ability of groups or communities to cope with external stresses and disturbances as a result of social, political and environmental change (Adger, 2000). Understandably, thinker like Adger and Holling as Climate Change thinkers within the academic space have a different opinion to what constitutes the impact of climate change and best possible approaches needed towards building resilience within social and political frameworks. This paper argues prevalently that, resilience is shaped by social and political discourse emphasizing on vulnerability and climate change adaptation methods such as Livelihood and Economic Diversification (LED) and Community based adaptation (CBA). The essay further argues that resilience is debated at multi levels [local, state, and global] but global policy makers often dominate the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Summer Vacation It s not often that our family gets to fly back to the states to visit family so when my brother and I flew back during the summer of 2015, we were more than excited to be going back to South Carolina to see close relatives that we d been missing. Since our relatives live on the coast it is often customary to visit the beach during our vacation to kick back and enjoy ourselves. After moving to Germany our experience with the sun and beach had been little to none. Needless to say, we were all excited to be going to the beach again since it had been some years and we d forgotten what it was like to be at one. That summer vacation my brother and I were quickly reminded of all the fun to be had, the people we could meet, and the lessons we could learn while we were at the beach. When first arriving at the beach we were greeted by the sights of wet sand, crashing waves, strong blowing winds, and a hot radiating sun. After the initial setup of towels, umbrellas, and applying of sunscreen my cousins, brother and I bolted for the waves that rose up the shore. Swimming in a pool is nothing like swimming in the ocean, everything felt more extreme as we floated over waves and were dragged around by the current. It wasn t long until my brother and I were reminded of a childhood joy of ours, which was facing off against the waves. We would swim to a place where we could stand firmly and try to remain standing as waves would crash down often taking us with them. When we d finish our fun ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Oppression, just a Frye explains, is to restrict natural rights and movement in society. These restrictions and pressure greatly affect how the oppressed view themselves and, from a young age, can create low self esteem and a hopeless feeling. In the film, A Girl Like Me , young African American women speak about how society s oppression has affected them and their friends. For these young women and many others oppression has created an invisible battle which they must fight in every day. It is assumed that progress has been made in racial equality in the last ... From a young age, America s youth is shown what is acceptable in society and what society values through the media, schools, and their families. African American girls learn that they do not fit that norm and it becomes clearer as they get older ( Davis 2005 ). This group is told that they are inferior and should want to have light skin and straight blonde hair just like the Barbie s they play with. Young (2014) explains that the dominant culture will reinforce culture imperialism by trying to bring the inferior group under the measures of the dominant norm. Cultural imperils is a form of oppression that reinforces the dominant culture through devaluing the minorities culture and establishing the dominant culture as the better , more desired culture. Authorization: Authorization is the act of checking to determine if a user has the proper permission to access a file or perform an action, after the user has properly identified themselves through authentication (Username/Password). Authorization is provided to users based on a job requirement or a need to know that allows them to access the required material. Authorization is usually determined when a user first gains access to a system but may change over time. If a change occurs that requires more or less authorization for a particular employee, the concerned supervisor should contact the appropriate authority to make the change. 2. • 40. Essay about Surrealism and Radically New Approach 1. Use the words relativity and uncertainty in a paragraph that describes the revolution in modern physics that took place in the early twentieth century. Modern physicists found, however, that at the physical extremes of nature the microcosmic realm of atomic particles and the macrocosmic world of heavy astronomical bodies the laws of Newton s principia did not apply. German physicist, Albert Einstein, made public his special theory of relativity, a radically new approach to the new concepts of time, space, motion, and light. Building on Einstein s theories, Werner Heisenberg theorized that since the very act of measuring subatomic phenomena altered them, the position and the velocity of a subatomic particle could not be measured ... Photography was an ideal medium with which to explore the payers of the unconscious mind. Modernist photographers experimented with double exposure and unusual new effects similar to those of visionary Surrealist painters and sculptors. A champion of the technique, Raoul Hausmann, called photomontage the alienation of photography . By this, he implied that photomontage destroyed the role of photography as a medium of recreating physical reality. But the statement also suggests that by its dependence on fragmentation and dislocation, photomontage offered a visually and conceptually new image of the chaos of an age of war and revolution. 7.
