Similarities Between The Matrix And Plato s Analogy Of The...
In contemporary society acceptance of illusion is commonplace. The majority of the world s
populace lives in a world of virtual reality as an escape from the truths of reality. Their senses are
no longer their own since they have been brainwashed by the media (agents) instructing them as to
what they should wear, what they should buy and where they should buy, how they should feel,
etcetera. Liberal academia takes it up a notch by indoctrinating students with communistic and
socialistic ideology. It is not surprising that sci fi dystopian films such as the Matrixhave been
embraced by viewers of diverse age groups. The purpose of this dissertation is based on
philosophical, psychological, sociological, and metaphysical dialogue in regards to a comparison

The Matrix and Plato s analogy of the cave share the two world theory of the illusionary world
and the ideal world with a mutual goal of liberation. In Plato s allegory of the cave, men are
shackled by the neck, hands, and legs from birth; prisoners of a controlled environment subjected
to the phantoms on the cave walls. The cave represents the sensory world and the world of ideas
exit outside the cave; ergo, being as this is their exclusive life experience, they believe this to be
real. Those in the Matrix are born into slavery, facing the cave wall, viewing a programmed virtual
reality believing the illusion created by the Matrix. In the Matrix, humans are confined within red
liquid filled pods, their bodies shackled by wires to a vast mechanical tower covered with identical
pods. The illusion of reality for those incarcerated by the Matrix, which simulates the reality
construct of the world of 1999, is created by the machinations of artificial intelligence through a
super computer (the architect) with the purpose of controlling

Muscogee Creek Nation
Since the arrival of Americans, the Muscogee Creek Nation has changed tremendously. We no
longer dress up in head dresses and make sacrifices, but we do try our best to preserve and teach
our culture and heritage. Today the Creek Nation is still an organized community with a leader,
meetings, rituals, and a language.
Creek Indians can be found in many places today, and there is no definite way to tell that one is of
the creek descent except by their blood. To declare yourself as a creek citizen you must first be able
to trace back to a direct ancestor listed on the 1906 Dawes Roll ( Muscogee ). As the creek heritage
passes from generation to generation a degree of blood is also passed down. To be considered a
member of the Creek Nation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my own family, many of the traditions we continue to celebrate and do would not have been
passed on if it was not for the closeness of our family. My mother can make many native foods
from growing up around her grandmother such as traditional Creek Fry bread; things that I
know I will one day pass on to my children. I can still remember my great grandmother teaching
my sister and I how to do traditional basket weaving, a tradition still taught in classes at the
Creek Nation today. Basket weaving is one of the oldest known Native American crafts and
shows the diversity of tribes as the different styles of basket weaving are still present today
(Lollman). If families did not pass on our heritage, many of our native songs and dances
performed at powwows would not be around to see or reenact today. Ultimately all of the
traditions we have today would not be here if it was not for the families passing their knowledge
and memories down.
Another way that many creek families have kept their culture alive is by still having traditional
Indian burials and funerals. I recently had the chance to observe this type of funeral for the first
time. From this experience I noticed many traditions that I had not known or even seen before. In
the creek community according to Cheri Lollman, a death is seen as a great accomplishment in
life, because they are now in a better place. Viewing of the body for my great grandmother, like in
many other

The Legacy Of President Abraham Lincoln
President Abraham Lincoln was the leader of the United States for five years, yet he is often
only remembered for leading the Union to victory in the Civil War and freeing the slaves in the
process. These accomplishments go together and it is easy to assume part of, if not the entire
reason for war was to end slavery. He is credited with freeing the slaves because of his
emancipation proclamation. This eventually brings and end to the institution, but should we really
credit this all to Lincoln? Was Lincoln the only one to recognize the moral issues with slavery and
destroy it with one single blow? African Americans are overlooked when talking about their
emancipation but they were some of the strongest advocates for the end to slavery... Show more

He continues by pleading, ...You, white fellow citizens, constitute a very large majority of the
voters ... Therefore, we appeal to you to stand by us, and see that we are not unjustly punished
(McPherson, p. 16). Massachusetts representatives opposed the compromise in Washington
which proved the importance the free northern blacks in attaining freedom for all African
Americans. After these failed attempts at compromise, war ensues. In the early stages of the
war many blacks ran across battle lines to the north attempting to escape bondage. Under the
fugitive slave law, they were returned back to their owners. This begins to change after
prominent free back leaders like Fredrick Douglass chastise the government for avoiding slavery
as the central war issue. He exclaims, Why? Oh! Why, in the name of all that is national, does
our Government allow its enemies this powerful advantage? ... The very stomach of the rebellion
is the negro in the condition of a slave... The negro is the key of the situation the pivot upon
which the whole rebellion turns... (McPherson, p. 39). He explains that not only is slavery is a
moral issue that the war should be fought for, but he brings policy maker s attentions to the fact
that the south s rebellion relies on slavery and without it would crumble. Douglass not only
attacked the issue of slavery from the legislative side but also from a grassroots

A Short Note On Kid Flash

Furthermore, even I felt satisfied with the bodies of the League slumped against cracks in the walls.
Just as I was about to rejoin the others, something tackled Superboy sending both of them through
the wall and outside. Uh oh. I barely got out before I was also sent to the ground, causing a
splitting pain to run down my spine. Looking up, the figure of Sportsmaster stands menacingly
above me. For a second, I swear I heard a chuckle coming from behind his mask, but it was short
lived when he throws a live grenade at me; it lands perfectly on my flat chest.
Don t even bother Kyle, that thing won t kill you.
Grinning cockily, I patiently wait for it to go off. Then, it clicks, but instead of a loud boom, it

Women in Civil War
Women, Slaves, and Free Blacks in the Civil War What roles did the Northern women play in
the war effort on the Union side during the Civil War? What roles did the Southern women play
in the war effort on the Confederate side during the Civil War? How did the war affect each
group? There were just shy of 400 documented cases of women who served as soldiers during the
Civil War, according to the records of the Sanitary Commission. (Brown, 2012) Women during the
19th century, according to Historian Barbara Welters were hostage of the home . (Brown, 2012)

There were others that were about of the regiments in which the male relative was serving.
These women camp followers tended to the sick, cleaned weapons, cooked, and help take care
of the sick. (Middle Tennessee State University Teaching with Primary Sources, 2015) In my
own opinion I believe the war had a great effect on the women of both the North and the South.
Without them, I don t believe there would have been enough nurses to have saved the men they
did and there wouldn t have been anything at home for all left on the home front. Because of the
war, we have great American History about women and the impact they had on the Civil War
and after. Which I believe led to a huge part of the Women s Rights Movement. What roles did
the Black slaves play in the Civil War? What roles did the free Blacks play in the Civil War?
How did the war affect each group? It took a clear and dire urging from the beloved General
Robert E. Lee to convince the Confederate Congress to begin enlisting black soldiers. (Civil War
Trust, 2015) Black men had tried to volunteer their services to the Union but because of President
Lincoln being afraid of what it would do to the white men s morale, he rejected the blacks from
volunteering for the war. However, in saying that, it did changed. President Lincoln passed the
Emancipation Proclamation, which stated All persons held as slaves within any States...in rebellion

Cross-Curricular Learning Essay
Making cognitive connections, within subjects and between subjects... ( Piaget 1977, Cockburn
and Haylock 2008,Rose 2009) is an aspect of cross curricular learning. Generally speaking, cross
curricular learning is when skills, knowledge and attitudes of a number of disciplines which are
applied to a single experience, problem, question, theme or idea. In simple terms, it s also known
as a thematic approach. From this point, I d be exploring the reasons why a thematic approach
should be adopted in the classroom and this approach could deliver the four core subjects in the
National Curriculum in Key Stage 1. On top of that I d be exploring the issues raised of adopting a

This form of assessment allows me to find out children s prior learning experiences and interests
and gives me an indication of where they are at, whilst children getting to have a voice in what
goes on in their classroom. On top of that, at the start of the term children would be able to engage
in theme based lessons by inquiring them to suggest themes they d like to study over the next half
term, this gives children the power to take control of their own learning and supports children s
intrinsic motivation of wanting to learn for themselves.
Again, due to the fact that children s interests and experiences are used to form a platform for
learning, the thematic approach tends to lend itself to be more motivating for pupils in conjunction
with their wider life experiences, as suggested by Barnes (2009). (Mumford. D (2000) Planning a
theme based unit, Canada: Pacific Edge Publishing Ltd) This kind of assumption asserts that all
children responds positively to the same style of teaching or the same stimulus. However, he
neglects that motivation arises from many sources and children are inspired by different and
unpredictable outputs. It is therefore understood that cross curricular approach will not suit all
children. But at the same time, as my role as a

Pardoner In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
Geoffrey Chaucer is a risen star during the Hundred Years War. Chaucer was a talented writer,
who translated The Romance of the Rose and wrote The House of Fame, The Legend of Good
Women, and The Parliament of Fowls...etc. Pardoner is a character from Chaucer s masterpiece
The Canterbury Tales. Pardoner is not only one of the major role in the Prologue, but also the
character Chaucer dislikes the most. Chaucer described Pardoner had hair as yellow as wax, ......
Thinly they fell, like rat tails, one by one (L694 L697 The Canterbury Tales). As the reader keeps

Examples Of Decisions ( Marketing Mix )
Examples of Decisions (Marketing Mix)
The main component of the marketing mix is the product. It consists of the services, along with the
physical product itself. The company imaging, packaging, and the brand name are all included in
this concept. An example of product decision in this particular case study is the variety of cookies
that are provided:
The Girl Scouts will also be asking certain troops to reduce their cookie lineups to six varieties.
The top six selling cookies Thin Mints, Do si dos, Trefoils, Samoas, Lemon Charlet Cremes, and
Tagalongs account for about 77 percent of cookies sales. (Lamb, Hair, and McDaniel 21).
The Girl Scouts made portion changes by decreasing cookie varieties by 1 ounce per box and they
made the decision to use plastic in the place of cardboard, which is normally used. These product
decisions are examples of packaging and serving size.
Place decisions refer to warehousing, order processing, and giving the product to the customer
when and where the customer wants it. The two Florida teens that used their mom s vehicle as an
on the go cookie store are an example of place decision making. Another example is the unknown
top seller in Atlanta that chose sales locations based off of the demographic research she had done.
Many of the Girl Scout troops are also known for setting up booths outside of grocery stores that
have high amounts of foot traffic.
Promotion decisions are all about receiving excellent customer feedback. This includes

China Human Rights Violations Essay
China s Human Rights Violations in Tibet In 1950, China sent 40,000 Chinese troops, ironically
known as the People s Liberation Army , to invade a relatively large and peaceful country named
Tibet for their abundant resources. Due to this national crisis, the position of the 14th Dalai Lama
was given to Tenzin Gyatso ( Birth to Exile ). Over the next few decades, Chinas harassment of
Tibet caused a myriad of problems, such as famines, the destruction of many sacred Buddhist
monasteries and other cultural sites, etc. Thirty year after the initial Chinese invasion, the people of
Tibet protested out of outrage that nothing has changed for thirty years, to which China responded
with brutal force to stop the protesters. Due to the Dalai Lama s... Show more content on

Since the beginning of this nightmare, China s involvement has been a significant human rights
violation. First of all, China has driven the Dalai Lama out of his own country and has forced
him to leave his people. To Tibetans and Buddhists, the Dalai Lama is both a spiritual and
political leader ... like a cross between a Pope and a President (Oliver, 2017). Traditionally, before
the Dalai Lama dies, he must find his reincarnation, the Panchen Lama, who finds his
reincarnation, the Dalai Lama, before he dies and so on. Furthermore, the Dalai Lama picked a
six year old boy to become the next Panchen Lama and then China kidnapped [the] six year old
and no one has heard from him since (Oliver, 2017). Not only is this horrifying truth a human
rights violation, but it has also completely destroyed a long lasting and sacred tradition. According
to the current Dalai Lama, it will be impossible for Tibetans and those who follow the Tibetan
Buddhist tradition to acknowledge or accept [the next Panchen Lama] ( Reincarnation , 2011).
Currently, China has a great firewall, called the Golden Shield Project, that censors information on
various items that negatively talks about China. Many people in China are protesting against these
heinous acts on Tibet, even though the Golden Shield Project is preventing many from learning
what is happening in Tibet ( The Great Firewall of China: Background ). China s destruction of this

Sompack a Turkish Manufacturer
ABSTRACT
SomPack which is a Turkish manufacturer, had to make a hard decision about its substantial
corporate strategy, because in the mid 1990s SomPack realized that China was a threat. China had
been making inroads into U.S. Market. The main issue was the labor cost differentials, so
SomPack tried to set some ways to reduce labor costs and increase the capacity. The company took
a step to product assembly that is the lipstick mechanism and the mechanism was high volume
component that has multistep process. They had a machine custom designed, but the machine was
so sensitive to operate and defects occurred. Then, they decided to redesign the parts of assembly
to decrease material cost, but it also did not work well. If they would have ... Show more content on

Thus, it causes some problems about the moulds and to fix they had to pay much more for labor
costs.
Another criterion is SomPack`s customers` demand cheap products. Moreover, SomPack loss their
suppliers and the customers due to the Chinese affects in cosmetic market. Lastly, large customers
who could control suppliers in China increasingly preferred to deal with them directly. Customers
increasingly approached SomPack for smaller order quantities, and when they needed to change
their product mix often, so SomPack could not have depended on Chinese suppliers for such
products either.
FACTS
Facts are related to criteria. There are some economic and also social facts that are connected to
economic ones. Economic facts are that the company was trying to reduce labor costs, product
quality by the use of cheaper raw material, use of cheaper costs and machines. Also, the social
facts occurred due to loss of customers. Those customers started to look for new countries to find a
new company. That is, SOMPACK was famous with its quality products and good customer
relations, but they had to decrease costs because of the fact that global crisis and foreign
competition had increased.
ACTION PLAN
SomPack`s goal is to be different than the other companies on the base of production`s quality and
service.
SHORT TERM STEPS
SomPack should reduce the costs as much as they can by the use

Summary Of Paul Revere s Ride
On the Historical Integrity of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow s Paul Revere s Ride In history,
many feats are told time and time again and become more grandeur with each utterance, to the
point where nearly all original meaning is long lost. As Doctor Manhattan said it in Watchmen,
The illusion vanishes, almost before it has registered (Gibbons and Moore 26). For example,
with Henry Wadsworth Longfellow s poem, Paul Revere s Ride, this certainly is the case. To
suggest that the aforementioned poem is a work of historical non fiction is a suggestion that
can be simply and eloquently discredited using real documents, the face value of the piece, and
simple logic. To begin, Longfellow s poem simply is not a credible source of historical
information, as there are real letters from the night of Paul Revere s ride that contain the true
sequence of events. In a letter to Jeremy Belknap; for instance, Paul Revere summarizes his
actions over the course of the night. In reality, Paul Revere s ride was slower paced and far more
suspenseful. The poem makes no mention of the British officers that threaten to blow Revere s
brains out (Gilder Lehrman). In the letter, there are many more comrades along on the journey,
whereas the poem suggest that Revere was a lone rider, storming into each town to alert the people
at full gallop. As a result, it is ridiculous to even pose the question of the historical integrity of
Longfellow s poem when the first relevant source of information

Cheaper By Dozen Analysis
The cliche is that students nationwide will settle in and be assigned a What did you do on
summer vacation? essay on their first day back. I have never been asked to write, nor asked
anyone to write, such a letter, but it remains a staple of shows and cartoons. It has been used in
movies and television as a conceit to begin a narration, leading to an extended flashback that
contains the main story. At times, the reader (the teacher) doesn t believe the tale, while other times
he or she is flabbergasted that so much has happened to a young child, during the innocence of
summer.
That innocence is childhood, and it is summer. As adults, we lose it (except for teachers). At
contract time, I wonder if the ire teachers receive AND THEY HAVE SUMMERS OFF!!! is as
much a longing for that childlike innocence of youth as an issue of pay? Probably not.

What is life? Toil? I hope not. An epic. Again, I hope not; too exhausting for me. So then what?
That s the question for your students. A major league scout will not show up at the Little League

And what do we do with our idle time? Enjoy it?
And, if life is neither Idyll or Epic, why do books and movies and stories portray it as such? What
is the purpose of life? What, you ask, are their favorite stories and why?
Now that s how you start the year; not with a reflection, but with hopes and dreams. Discuss.

My Spanish Standoff Analysis
The Benefits of Being Bilingual My Spanish Standoff by Gabriella Kuntz explains how the fear of
prejudice against Latin America in the United States led her and her husband to avoid speaking and
teaching their children Spanish. One reason that she decides not to teach her native language to her
children is because she saw how the Anglo Saxons in the community treated her because of her
dark complexion, brown eyes and black hair. Another reason, she mentions involves the fact that her
children developed accents and were unable to understand either language completely. Because of
this, Kuntz decides only to speak to them in English to prevent others from criticizing her children
for speaking with broken grammar and thick accents. She believes

perspectives prior to the theory of ecofeminism and how they handled the mutual relationship
between women and nature and how this led to the emergence of the theory of ecofeminism. Some
of the important terms in the theory of ecofeminism, ecofeminism and deep ecology, ecofeminism
and the feminine principle, characterization of ecofeminist philosophy, ecofeminism and the sense
of place, and finally ecofeminism and the division within the theory itself.
During the last centuries, and especially after the emergence of the Industrial Revolution, a
degradation of our nature has been witnessed. This degradation has occurred in many natural
elements: air, water, and soil. Global warming, pollution, water contamination, unstable weather,
and many dysfunctions of the once stable earth has made thinkers consider the reason why such
deficiencies occur, and how to get things right before it is too late to take an action and our earth
goes beyond repair.
This current situation has made thinkers from different schools of thought try to figure out when
this contamination of nature took place; what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Food Truck Cost Essay
Techniques and Cost:
Food truck space is limited, so the types of equipment available to produce the foods for the
customers must be resourceful. The same goes for the number of employees, 2 to three employees
will be allowed at any given time. They will have assigned tasks depending on time constraints and
amount of people ordering.
Costs of operating the food truck will consist of rent of the location being used per day or leased
monthly, and gas and electricity if both are needed to operate the truck, garbage and waste facility
to empty out the truck at end of each day (requirement for food trucks), cost of food sales products
and ingredients, and employee wages which will be calculated at about 2 to 3 employees per day.
Initial costs:

Private space
For more control of your kitchen space, you can rent a private location. Having a private
commercial kitchen space will cost you more than sharing one, but you also have the ability to
work at your own pace and have more room for yourself. Another benefit of having a private space
is the ability to be able to store more ingredients. This would also be a cost saver in one aspect by
being able to purchase items in bulk that you wouldn t be able to purchase with a shared space.
Site Plans:
In the state of California, the permits and requirements for where to place your food truck is
entirely up to the city or county. For most food truck owners, relying on their existing power and
generators is their goal. One possibility is by using a commissary regularly over night, to keep
your truck running throughout the busy day. The site and what consists of the site is what will help

The Importance Of Cultural Diversity In The Workplace
The Importance of Cultural Diversity
Cultural diversity is defined as The existence of a variety of cultural or ethnic groups within a
society (Oxford, 2017). Within the workplace there have been a trend towards promoting diversity
by maintaining a workforce with workers differ in area such as race, sexual orientation, age, and
gender. This is often times a daunting and difficult task for management. Effective communication
can be challenging for diverse groups. Language barriers for example may cause confusion leading
to conflict. Another risk to implementing diversity in the workplace is that some employees feel
that individuals may have gained their respective position unjustly. Conversely, differing employees
may feel out of place and not assimilate well with the rest of the group (Kirby Richard, 2000).
Promoting cultural diversity is not just relegate to the hiring of diverse individuals; rather the
organization must also seek to create and maintain policies, procedures, training, and even
incentives to truly cultivate a positive culturally diverse environment (Patrick and Kumar 2012).
With all the time, money, and effort necessary to create and maintain a diverse work environment,
leaders are left wondering what if any, benefits can be gained by promoting cultural diversity.
Research indicates that there are several valuable assets to fostering cultural diversity in the
workplace. Firstly, the makeup of the labor pool is changing. There has been a steady increase

Security Of Database Systems Has Become Very Important Now...
DATABASE SECURITY
Abstract:
Security of database systems has become very important Now a days. As many of the operations
now a days depend on the database systems, security became a problem because of increase in the
number of web applications. If the data is affected in an application, it not only affects that single
application but it affects the entire applications present in that system. Data may be damaged not
only from the outside damages but may be also from inside damages. Hence, we are using some of
the data security techniques like encryption of the data and decryption of the data for keeping the
data safe.
Introduction for security of DB:

So, information control is required for the correct flow of data. For the encryption of the data, we
use the cryptographic control.
There are different types of components which provide the data protection in the DBMS. Some
such components are access control and semantic correctness. Secrecy of data is maintained by the
access control. If a person wants to make changes to the data, then it checks for whether the person
trying to change the data is the appropriate user or not by using some of the security points. By
these security points we can say that whether the person can use the data or not.
Secrecy of data can also be maintained by the use of some techniques like encryption which is
applied to the data when transmitted or when stored. Now the problem is how to change or
access the encrypted data. There is a technique called semantic correctness which verifies the
semantics of data. If the semantics are correct data can be accessed. The data is stored in the form
of symbols. At the end we can recover the data and can make sure whether the data is correct and
it is available by using of the recovery system and concurrency control.
Now the research areas are also included in the database security. There are some special
techniques involved in the research part which are order preserving and privacy preserving. The
applications mainly based on the privacy and the correctness of order.

Health Risks From The Coal Ash Spill
Ultimately, Dr. Shea found very little actual health risks from the coal ash spill. According to Dan
Way, Dr. Shea reported that short term toxic harm resulted from the spill, and that there were only
isolated cases of coal ash contaminating groundwater (2014). However, there was agreement that
long term monitoring was necessary at the Dan River to assess longer term damages.
Additionally, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a response update to assess
potential impacts to human and aquatic life (2014). The method the EPA employed was to analyze
surface water and sediments for contaminants and compare those results to its screening levels. To
assess impact to human health, the EPA compared the sediment data to health risk screening levels
and compared drinking water samples to Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) as well as to other
indicators. Overall, the EPA found those levels found in sediment data and water samples to not
exceed human health screening levels and thus determined that there wasn t significant risk to
human health, although the EPA did recommend that people do not come in direct contact with coal
ash as it could still pose health risks. These findings were consistent with that of Dr. Shea.
Secondarily, the EPA compared the sediment data and water samples to ecological risk based
screening levels. In this study, the EPA did find some levels to exceed ecological screening levels
in both the sediment data and water samples. The action that the

Abortion In Canada
Abortion, one of the biggest controversies of all time, has been argued more heavily over the
recent past decades. In developed nations, cajoled abortions are the safest form of medical
procedures; if it is regulated law. Although, the silence is deafening as to when statistics are
released on the rate of abortions. Annually, as the abortionstatistics are released there s been
criticism in the mainstream media. More than 40 percent of women confirm they have aborted a
pregnancyat least once in their life. Although millions of abortion have been performed since
January 28, 1988 in Canada, the debate over whether it should have been legalized is argued
vigorously by many Canadians, as well as people of many other countries and cultures. The... Show

Pro life although, support the idea that every child has a right to live, even if the mother is not
financially able to aid the child and the child would struggle everyday along with their mother.
These children would be underprivileged and could potentially die from the circumstances they
d be forced to live in. To some countries it s a burdensome issue to be talked about, whereas other
countries have come to a stand to where they are on the spectrum on this subject. Norma
McCorvey, known as Jane Roe, was a Texas local who needed to obtain an abortion. The Texas
law prohibited abortions except to save the pregnant mother s life. She had soon had given birth
but only to give up the baby for adoption. Ever since she has come forward and changed sides on
the abortion debate. As she filed her case to the U.S. Supreme Court, she received support from
many women and of course, displeasure from others. In 1973, the landmark decision had been
made that abortion would be legal in the U.S but may be restricted by the states to varying degrees
under the Fourteenth amendment to the Constitution. Pro choice defends and protects the people, it
is ultimately the woman s life that would be affected, who would the government be to take that
away from the people? We live in a developed country based on freedoms, and women have and
should continue to have the freedom to hat choice. Women have the right to their own body just as
the same as people have to make their own decisions. If the government controls women s choices
on abortion, before you know it, the government will control other personal decisions that people
make; like getting plastic surgery, how much they weigh, ect. The government should not dictate
people s judgements and solutions to their issues. As statistics have shown, it is estimated that there

Novel Theme Essay Michael Jordan once said, Some people want it to happen, some wish it
would happen, others make it happen. In order to achieve your goals, you must work for it and
be determined to get them. You can stay home and dream about your goals, or you can go out
and actually take a risk. This quote shows the theme of determination in Where the Red Fern
Grows, by Wilson Rawls. The theme of determination is shown in section one of this book. On
pages 20 through 21 when Billy worked consistently for two hard years collecting money to buy
pups. This shows the theme of determination because Billy was determined to earn enough money
to buy two coon hounds to hunt and play with. Furthermore, the theme of determination is shown
on pages 27 through 28, when Billy went through a long, hard journey on foot to go get his dogs.
This supports the theme because Billy was so determined to get those dogs, he was willing to
journey on his bare feet to retrieve them. Billy s determination in section one was crucial to him

Sogolonbougou Essay examples
This is a very interesting story narrated by the responsibilities and decisions of two people. The
first, Amadou Diarra is an agent for the Service des Eaux et Forets (Forest Service). His job as an
agent was to manage the nation s forests and enforcing the forest protection laws. While enforcing
these laws he could either make a tribe/person pay the fine or take a bribe. The next key person is
the chief of Sogolonbougou, Djokolo Coulibaly. He also was in a very tough situation. He had to
someway figure out how to manage the land available to the village to produce enough crop to
keep the villagers fed. In doing so he sometimes had to break some forest service regulations to

Since the average income for a Malian was $260, paying the fine would greatly hurt the tribe,
sending the chief to jail is out of the question, and in this situation the authorities won t take a bribe.
This is a very bad situation from the start. Almost every aspect of this situation is bad. The people
are poor, the land is of poor quality, and production of foods and materials is getting tougher and
tougher.
What are the people of Sogolonbougou to do? They are simply trying to raise enough crop to keep
from starving and the Forest Service keeps bothering them? Whats the Forest Service to do? They
are simply trying to keep environmentally healthy by setting a few laws and regulating them? These
are the questions that need to be answered to solve the conflict between the Forest Service and
Sogolonbougou.
In my opinion, I realize that it must be tough on the chief of Sogolonbougou to have to try to
keep a village up and running. But as a chief he needs to find other ways to do things. Instead of
trying to clear more land maybe he needs to use the land he has more efficiently. For the forest
service they do have to enforce the laws they set. But I feel the leaders of both groups need to put
their heads together and find a better solution. It seems rather stupid for both

Detroit Riots of 1943 Essay
The Detroit Riots of 1943 Since the time of slavery, racial tension has existed between whites and
blacks. This tension has only increased with the passing of time. This conflict culminated in the
1940s in the form of mob violence. While there have been previous riots because of race relations,
none of them were of the magnitude of the 1943 Detroit riot. Much like any other event involving
racism in the 1940s, the Detroit riot has little coverage, most of which is skewed, in articles in the
nation?s leading news sources such as ?Deep Trouble? in Time, ?Riotous Race Hate? in Newsweek,
and ?The Truth About the Detroit Riot? in Harper?s. Thus, one must compare articles from these

Harper?s elaborates on the cause of the racial tension stating that it results because of
competition in the Detroit automotive factories for employment. All three articles describe the
fight spreading at around midnight across the bridge to Belle Isle into the city. After the fight
starts, both blacks and whites take sides based on color, which augments the dispute. Newsweek
and Time describe gangs joining in the fighting as reinforcements and Time also adds that in all
of the looting, pawn shops were being raided by the rioters to acquire guns. According to
Harper?s? sources, white sailors begin to join in on the brawl thus further escalating it, while a
black man runs to a nearby club and announced that a group of white men had raped and killed a
black woman and her daughter. As this rumor spreads, a white group began spreading their own
rumors by incorrectly informing others that a white woman had been assaulted. Thus, the
destruction that ensues from this riot is simply the product of rumors. According to Baldwin, the
same can be stated about the Harlem riot. A rumor is spread of a black soldier being shot in the
back and killed, thus incensing the crowds (Baldwin 81). While this is not the truth, it sufficiently
ignites the fury of Harlem. The majority of the fighting in the Detroit riot takes place in the valley

Relationships and Setting in Willa Cather s O Pioneers!...
Relationships and Setting in Willa Cather s O Pioneers!
O Pioneers!(1993) by Willa Cather begins on a blustery winter day, in the town of Hanover,
Nebraska, sometime between 1883 and 1890. The narrator introduces four main character: the very
young Emil Bergson; his older sister, Alexandra; her friend Carl Linstrum; and a little girl, Marie
Shabata. Alexandra s father, John Bergson, is dying. He tells his two oldest sons, Lou and Oscar,
that he is leaving the farmland, and all of what he has accomplished, to their sister.
Alexandra is a hard working young lady and will do anything to make her father proud. When the
drought and depression struck three years later, Alexandra s determination to keep the farm allows
her to persevere. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lou and Oscar are married and each of them owns their own farm. Alexandra s farm is still the
most prosperous on the entire Divide. Emil is grown up and is leaving the Divide for the State
University. Carl Linstrum returns for a long visit after years of being gone. Marie is unhappily
married and it becomes very evident that her and Emil are falling in love.
This novel measures the influence of an individual against human desires and the forces of nature.
For example, Alexandra s relationship with the land summarizes the struggle between human
desires and the larger forces than manipulate individuals. This difficult relationship between
individuals and society is one of the most dominant themes and is depicted throughout the novel by
using setting to reflect the characters.
In the first sentence, Cather establishes a sense of symbolism when the narrator states ...the little
town of Hanover...was trying not to be blown away (1). Cather is personifying the prairie s
existence to help paint a picture of both the beauty and the difficulty of pioneer life. Much of the
opening section of the novel focuses itself to a description, and more importantly, to a
characterization of the land, setting personified forces and individuals into conflict with each other.
In this novel, the forces of nature are so powerful that they overwhelm the settlers. The narrator
states this fact when stating, The record of the plow was insignificant, like the feeble scratches on

Vanity In Pride And Prejudice
Solomon was known as the smartest and wisest man in the world. He became a king of Israel, and
decided that he was going to figure out where happiness is found. He thought that money might be

pursuit of happiness. He then tried alcohol and women, but he was still unsuccessful. By the end of

Germany Is A Country Rich With History
Before we can understand the culture of any country or people, we must first define what culture is
and what influences culture to change. Culture is simply the shared characteristics or common
ground within a group of individuals. These characteristics can include anything from religion to
how a business operates. Culture is not stagnate; it will evolve and change as the people of the
area develop new ideas, technologies, and views of the future. For example, Germanyhas developed
its own unique culture over the course of a few millenniums. When visiting Germany for the first
time, having an understanding of the country s history, territorial regions, political environment,
and customs of the people may keep a person from unintentionally offending a German citizen and
make the adventure much more enjoyable. First, to understand how German culture and customs
came into existence we must examine its past. Germany is a country rich with history spanning
over two thousand years. Fortunately, we only need to look at the last century and a half to
understand how modern day Germany came into fruition. Prior to 1870, Germany was only a
collection of separate principalities. Then in 1871, Germany became part of the Holy Roman
Empire and united into one country. Under the leadership of Otto von Bismarck, it transformed into
a powerful, industrialized nation. As Germany entered into the 1920s with the economic depression

Summary Of Blaise s False
Blaise launches into the air and scans the sky for Styles. The flabby man screams in fear as he
hurls toward the ground a breakneck speed. Hold on Styles! Blaise makes a motion with his
hands and the big man begins to slow down. The sound of a woman screaming above him
commands his attention next. Titanika is white as a sheet as she watches the ground rushing up
at her. Anika! Blaise shouts as he reaches toward her. Like Styles, she too begins to slow her
descent. A few moments later, all three rune bearers touch down and sprawl on the ground. Can
we never do that again, please? Titanika rasps, still trying to calm her nerves. Before anyone can
respond, Scarlett appears beside Titanika and reaches for her again. No! Blaise commands... Show

torn apart by Father Atmos. A few moments later, his eyes roll into the back of his head and the
Dark Enforcer falls face first to the ground. Styles falls to the earth in fear. Agh! It s a ghost! Keep

Mailor-Callow Embodied Cultural Capital
Under the concept of capital, schools role can be best understood as intermediaries where
exchange across different forms of capital and creation of new capital take place. In other words,
through school, cultural capital and social capital could be exchangeable, and specific capital
could be created or adopted. Jamal s intellectual and athletic talents and aspiration (embodied
cultural capital) lead to a higher social status (new social capital for Jamal) through Mailor
Callow (a school). He is able to receive wide recognition due to the platform that Mailor Callow
has provided essay competition and high schoolbasketball championship series.
Furthermore, through challenging and intense class assignments and writing competition, Jamal
is able to transform his aspiration (embodied cultural capital) and bond with Forrester (social
capital) into excellent writing skills (new embodied cultural capital). Jamal is often found
reading and writing under Forrester s instruction, but all of these would not have been possible if
Jamal has not attended Mailor Callow, as Forrester states: questions of your writing suggest what
you are going to do in your life. And this is the question that your present school could not
answer for you. Mailor Callow enables Jamal to achieve excellence by constantly challenging him.
For example, Jamal would have not asked Forrester for help in writing if professor Crawford has
not criticized his writing and doubted his academic legitimacy for this

Essay On The Conflict Between China And Russia
The Second Sino Japanese War (formerly addressed as the China Incident ) took place in China
from 1937 until 1945. In this war, the Japanese sought out China s abundance of raw materials and
land. The two forces, China and Japan, battled over the control of said materials and most
importantly, land. Before this, China was mainly concerned with the civil war (which was on and
off until 1950, years after the Second Sino Japanese war) between nationalists (Kuomintang party
lead by Chiang Kai Shek) and communists (Communist Party of China lead by Mao Zedong).
This war also served as an introduction to the Pacific end of World War II.
This conflict began on behalf of the Japanese occupying northern China, more specifically,
Manchuria. This occupation began relatively early on, before there was a full blown war. Both
Japan and Russia, as a result of the war between those two powers two decades ago in the early
1900 s, occupied Manchuria. The Japanese s interest in China seemed to have expanded to be more
than just resources but rather total control of the country. They preyed on weak, dismembered
China and feared China unifying into a solid nation under the guidance of the Kuomintang party.
This boiling mix of tensions and fear lead to what would be known as the Manchurian or Mukden
Incident. This incident describes the fright within the Japanese when an unidentified bomb went off
on a Japanese railway in Mukden. The Imperial Japanese Army guards in charge of the railway took

Exploring The Various Meanings Of Spirituality
A worldview consists of values and theories that provide guidance in understanding reality, the
essence of life (Shelly Miller, 2006). There are different ways of interpreting the world and there
are various factors that influence an individual s view of his or her total wellbeing. These
factors include spirituality and religious background, beliefs and experiences. According to
Funk (2001), a worldview is a set of beliefs that control an individual s thinking, knowing and
doing. Individuals adhere to their model of worldview to lay a framework of attitudes about life
and the world. Some aspects of worldview are shared by many in the population. However,
concepts and elements vary for each person. This paper aims to explore the various meanings of
spirituality as it relates to health care, human personhood, reality, death and afterlife, knowledge,
code of ethics and human history. Perspectives on Spirituality Spirituality is a common human
element which resides in every individual and it is a compelling force that keeps an individual
evolving and developing (Goddard, 1995). Frequently with God as its central focus, spirituality
is a person s belief in a greater power and his or her connectedness to God. Gotsis Kortezi (2008)
adds that spirituality is a person s purpose to his or her existence and a desire to find its divine
meaning. Philosophies such as, religious beliefs and practices, love for family and compassion to
others all provide depth to the meaning of

The Decline Of Reading In The US
People today have lost interest in reading. Otis Kramer says in The Decline of Reading in the U.S.
Damages Our Intellectual Life, For the first time in modern history, less than half of the adult
population now reads literature. When children are not taught to enjoy reading they carry that
through life which causes problems that are hard to fix later in life. There is a loss of interest in
readingbecause of schools, parents and technology. This can cause problems with intellect and
mental states. Parents can solve this, if they teach their children to enjoy readingearly on. The lack
of interest in reading is due to many things, but tends to begin with young children. Schools and
parents do not encourage their children to read for fun (Charleston). Parents do so because they
were not taught to enjoy reading, or they do not have time. Schools, on the other hand, create an
environment where reading becomes more of a chore than a fun activity (Denby). Schools do try
to teach kids to enjoy reading, teachers will set times or page numbers for their students to read. A
study on this method has shown that when told to only read a set amount of time or pages, children
will only read the amount required by the teachers. The things that children read are normally not
something they chose. This decision creates a hatred for reading in children, even if they loved to
read before. In many case, such as assignments make the students hate the book they have just read,

Disney s Influence On Disney
Disney has been around for many generations of people s lives and has had a true impact on
most of society, but now Disney is slowly straying away from the true purpose that they have
built all of their old work upon. No longer is Disney focused on being a magical company, but
more of one that has the most power in the world, which they have already been able to achieve.
Disney now appears to be profit hungry by producing films that relate to society rather than inspire
it, or repeat an old animation film through live action, i.e. Cinderella. Society s influence on Disney
became so grand, with the demands of more feminist movies, different ethnicities, etc. that Disney
decided to please society. Disney now is meeting these demands with... Show more content on

While these perspectives have well thought ideas, from my view point, Disney is straying away
from being magical to slowly transforming into becoming a people pleasing company. All of this
helps them gain more profit and creates greed/lust for more.
Disney has been alive through many generations. As people age, the mind s thought process
changes. Due to this, it is said that people grow out of old interests, which some put Disney into
this. Instead of Disney being the one to change, it is the older generations. Disney supposedly aims
for a certain age group. In a journal by Towbin, children are discussed towards the beginning
because Disney is known to have a huge influence on them through media because media is how
they learn now a days and Disney takes a part in shaping their future. That is where the argument
appears about Disney not changing because if they truly changed, the children would not enjoy
the films as much as they do already, always wanting to be a certain Disney princess or another
character. Adults have already found their passion, how to function and go through life, this being
said, the Disney films are just there for the adults to watch for entertainment if wished, and if not,
it was intended for a child to begin with. Others believe Disney has changed their purpose of their
work, but for the better. The shell of stereotypes are broken within the films, and the

Social Class In The Victorian Age
The books of Dickens have a place completely with the philanthropic development of the
Victorian Age, of which they are, in fact, in the circle of fiction, by a wide margin an essential
item and expression. He was from first to last a writer for a reason. Dickens embarked to assault
some particular mishandle or misuse existing towards youngsters and ladies amid the Victorian
period. Amid the Modern Insurgency, the Victorian culture comprised of a hierarchical structure
include the privileged, trailed by the white collar class, the average workers and the ruined
underclass. These distinctive social classes could be recognized by disparities in territories, for
example, legislative issues, specialist, riches, training, culture, working and living conditions.
Individuals from the lower class were seen as nonsensical, juvenile, superstitious, ruthless,
exorbitantly sexual and tarnished. Because of the feebleness of the lower class people, they were
oppressed to misuse and treatment like that of creatures. In light of destitution, kids were
constrained into youngster work and compelled to act as fireplace sweepers, and they could slither
up the twelve by fourteen inch stacks, some as little as seven inches square, with the goal that they
would get out the yearly standard of forty gallons of sediment that was kept there. Some young
men moved toward becoming rodent catchers, and they were required to utilize arsenic to harm the
rats. However, as this could be costly, they could

Casablanca’s Liberal Criticism Essay
The film Casablanca will always remain an American classic. American people critiqued it as a
high quality film over a time period, defining a classic and still today Casablanca remains a top
American movie. Michael Curtiz, the director, shows World War II on the home front, using the
setting to transfer the view point. The famous and popular Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, and
Paul Henreid play the complex love triangle that leads the film to the stories purpose and theme.
Casablancaillustrates liberal criticism through a hometown war rebellion setting, the nationalistic
view points, and true love s tribulations. The German invasion brings the Casablanca people

Renault, the French sheriff police officer, works with Strasser, the German general. Renault rarely
takes him seriously and complies to do whatever Strasser desires. For example, Strasser tells
Renault that he overestimates blundering Americans. Renault responds, Do not underestimate
American blundering, they blundered all the way into Berlin in 1918. The German general quickly
changes the subject. Renault s and Rick s friendship is where the small town humor occurs, another
example displaying the audiences sympathetic views.
Casablanca s love afflictions render that true love equals self sacrifice. The married Victor and
Ilsa (Bergman) get separated when Victor gets arrested for leading an underground rebellion.
Ilsa receives word that he was killed in a concentration camp. Then the day she is to leave with
new found love, Rick, she obtains information that Victor lives and leaves Rick without reason.
Rick remains bitter and cynical, making it clear that he, don t stick his neck out for no one, and,
isolationism is his foreign policy. He remains cold towards everyone when he finds the truth
behind why she left him and shows no interest helping them escape Casablanca although he has
the power. When Rick and Victor speak, Victor only asks for one exit visa. When Rick asks him if
he really loves her that much, Victor responds honestly yes, well knowing that Ilsa and Rick

The Pros And Cons Of Free Trade
Free trade is a capitalist concept that advocates for a seamless and free flow of goods and services
that is virtually unhindered by state imposed restrictions or trade barriers. Over the years, the
American government has signed multiple agreements with governments across the world, to
encourage trade between the continental United States and other countries around the globe.
Indeed, bilateral agreements ranging from AGOA, NAFTA, and TPP have been signed by
successive Washington administrations, ostensibly to encourage Americans to reap financial
benefits from global trade. The open and free tradeidea is anchored on the maxim that no country
possesses all the services and products that it needs, at any given time. Countries across the
Americas fro instance and by extension globally have seen a proliferation in the number of treaties
and preferential trade agreements by economies to boost trade. In this regard, some countries are
well endowed with extensive natural resources such as oil, gas, and gold, while others may lack
them but still need to use these resources.
Nevertheless, the sovereign is permitted under international trade laws to impose certain levels of
trade restrictions for valid reasons such as protecting its infant industries and taming dumping of
substandard goods. In this regard, the world is moving towards protectionism with scores of
countries imposing tariff and non tariff barriers as well as the complete ban of certain class of
goods from overseas or

Reflection On Career Development
A.This lesson mainly addressed aspects related to career development. This lesson encourages
students to discover their academic and personal strengths, their skillsets, and their interests.
Students then take those concepts and apply them to career exploration. They are able to link their
strengths, preferences, and abilities to potential future careerpaths. Some of the specific aspects of
career development that I addressed include applying planning and career exploration in setting
and obtaining lifelong career goals, applying necessary skills for career readiness and success,
and teaching students where and how to obtain information about post secondary options. In
this lesson students are encouraged to apply decision making skills to place different careers
into the appropriate career fields. In doing so, they are also encouraged to begin thinking about
careers that are of interest to them and what career goals they have for themselves. They will be
given resources in order to continue career exploration outside of the classroom. While I do not
expect sixth graders to fully decide their career path, it is my firm belief that it is never too early
to get students thinking about careers and having them set goals in order to obtain the career and
future that they desire. I also believe that this unit touches on social and emotional development as
well as academic development. This lesson allows the student to collaborate with one another and
work in groups as well as in pairs. This promotes relationship building and teamwork. It also allows
students to take an inventory of their personal strengths and skillsets. This could boost self esteem
and promotes a sense of self awareness. Lastly, this unit also encompasses academic development.
Students will understand that good grades and academic success are key elements to obtaining the
career that they wish to have. By being academically successful, this will allow them greater options
and opportunity post high school graduation.
B.In today s world, I feel as though it is very important to incorporate technology into lesson
plans. Technology helps keep children engaged and we are now living in a world where technology
is all around us. I was able to

Destructive Colonization Exposed in Shooting an Elephant and Heart of Darkness
As a man is captured, his first instinct is to try and break free from his shackles and chains. Primal
urges such as this often accompany humans when they are forced, as in capture, to rely on their
most basic instincts to survive.
In this manner, natives in Africa acted upon instinct when the Europeans arrived to take their land
and freedom. The short story Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell and the novel Heart of
Darkness by Joseph Conrad revolve around the time when colonialism had a foothold in many parts
of the world. This setting is one of conflict with the native peoples in these countries who are
fighting and rebelling against the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This unrest needs to be subdued so that control will remain over the conquered. In this way, Orwell
needed to exterminate an elephant because it had become wild and had killed a native man.
However, the natives had not shown much interest while [the elephant] was merely ravaging their
homes, but it was different now that [the elephant] [is] going to be shot. (Century, 146)
Shooting this elephant has much significance because it illustrates the control over the natives that
the colonizers had. Orwell needed to kill the elephant in order to support his position of a law
figure in his town. The elephant was unruly to begin with, but it also served as a reminder for
Orwell s constituents about who was in power, and who had control.
Control is also used in The Heart of Darkness when Marlow first sees a group of natives, dying
slowly it [is] very clear . They had [become] inefficient as Marlow states. Inefficient with the job
and labor that was forced upon them by the colonizers. In this manner, it is evident that the
natives were forced to work and die against their will. Marlow recounts that these men were
forced to become slaves for England, forced to be oppressed and controlled by colonialist rule. The
tyranny of the natives led to a struggle to keep order within Orwell s and Marlow s jurisdictions.
As Orwell and Marlow struggle to keep order at times, they both

Heidegger s Relationship Between Poetry And Poetry
In the words of Heidegger, the poem is a vortex that snatches us away not gradually, but suddenly,
and thus we are drawn into a conversation. Understanding of poetry is essential to Heidegger s
philosophy. There are two notions, which seem to stand at opposite poles, which are poetry and
technology. They seem to be opposed forms of truth. In modern civilization, we see the world
through our technology, but there was a time when the truth was seen through poetry.
Holderlin (1770 1843) a symbol of the German Romantic Movement had a great impact on
Heidegger s poetic thinking. In his various treatises, Heidegger clarifies his intent in studying
thought through poetry and to enter into the truth of the poems studied. Heidegger believed that

We have to use the same language for everyday life and to describe the essence of beings. Poetry
can answer this difficulty, a standing as a golden mean between familiar language and deep
language. There is a difference in the mental effort we exert when we read a common novel and
a sophisticated poem. Poetic language uses uncommon terms and this makes us think deeply
about the words, as compared to common speech. Philosophy is a fruitful field, but Heidegger
wanted to recognize some of its weaknesses that are related to the language we use that often

  • 3. Similarities Between The Matrix And Plato s Analogy Of The... In contemporary society acceptance of illusion is commonplace. The majority of the world s populace lives in a world of virtual reality as an escape from the truths of reality. Their senses are no longer their own since they have been brainwashed by the media (agents) instructing them as to what they should wear, what they should buy and where they should buy, how they should feel, etcetera. Liberal academia takes it up a notch by indoctrinating students with communistic and socialistic ideology. It is not surprising that sci fi dystopian films such as the Matrixhave been embraced by viewers of diverse age groups. The Matrix and Plato s analogy of the cave share the two world theory of the illusionary world and the ideal world with a mutual goal of liberation. In Plato s allegory of the cave, men are shackled by the neck, hands, and legs from birth; prisoners of a controlled environment subjected to the phantoms on the cave walls. The cave represents the sensory world and the world of ideas exit outside the cave; ergo, being as this is their exclusive life experience, they believe this to be real. Those in the Matrix are born into slavery, facing the cave wall, viewing a programmed virtual reality believing the illusion created by the Matrix. In the Matrix, humans are confined within red liquid filled pods, their bodies shackled by wires to a vast mechanical tower covered with identical pods. We no longer dress up in head dresses and make sacrifices, but we do try our best to preserve and teach our culture and heritage. Today the Creek Nation is still an organized community with a leader, meetings, rituals, and a language. Creek Indians can be found in many places today, and there is no definite way to tell that one is of the creek descent except by their blood. To declare yourself as a creek citizen you must first be able to trace back to a direct ancestor listed on the 1906 Dawes Roll ( Muscogee ). In my own family, many of the traditions we continue to celebrate and do would not have been passed on if it was not for the closeness of our family. My mother can make many native foods from growing up around her grandmother such as traditional Creek Fry bread; things that I know I will one day pass on to my children. I can still remember my great grandmother teaching my sister and I how to do traditional basket weaving, a tradition still taught in classes at the Creek Nation today. Basket weaving is one of the oldest known Native American crafts and shows the diversity of tribes as the different styles of basket weaving are still present today (Lollman). If families did not pass on our heritage, many of our native songs and dances performed at powwows would not be around to see or reenact today. Ultimately all of the traditions we have today would not be here if it was not for the families passing their knowledge and memories down. Another way that many creek families have kept their culture alive is by still having traditional Indian burials and funerals. I recently had the chance to observe this type of funeral for the first time. From this experience I noticed many traditions that I had not known or even seen before. In the creek community according to Cheri Lollman, a death is seen as a great accomplishment in life, because they are now in a better place. • 5. The Legacy Of President Abraham Lincoln President Abraham Lincoln was the leader of the United States for five years, yet he is often only remembered for leading the Union to victory in the Civil War and freeing the slaves in the process. These accomplishments go together and it is easy to assume part of, if not the entire reason for war was to end slavery. He is credited with freeing the slaves because of his emancipation proclamation. This eventually brings and end to the institution, but should we really credit this all to Lincoln? Was Lincoln the only one to recognize the moral issues with slavery and destroy it with one single blow? He continues by pleading, ...You, white fellow citizens, constitute a very large majority of the voters ... Therefore, we appeal to you to stand by us, and see that we are not unjustly punished (McPherson, p. 16). After these failed attempts at compromise, war ensues. In the early stages of the war many blacks ran across battle lines to the north attempting to escape bondage. Under the fugitive slave law, they were returned back to their owners. This begins to change after prominent free back leaders like Fredrick Douglass chastise the government for avoiding slavery as the central war issue. He exclaims, Why? Oh! Why, in the name of all that is national, does our Government allow its enemies this powerful advantage? ... The very stomach of the rebellion is the negro in the condition of a slave... • 15. Summary Of Paul Revere s Ride On the Historical Integrity of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow s Paul Revere s Ride In history, many feats are told time and time again and become more grandeur with each utterance, to the point where nearly all original meaning is long lost. As Doctor Manhattan said it in Watchmen, The illusion vanishes, almost before it has registered (Gibbons and Moore 26). For example, with Henry Wadsworth Longfellow s poem, Paul Revere s Ride, this certainly is the case. To suggest that the aforementioned poem is a work of historical non fiction is a suggestion that can be simply and eloquently discredited using real documents, the face value of the piece, and simple logic. To begin, Longfellow s poem simply is not a credible source of historical information, as there are real letters from the night of Paul Revere s ride that contain the true sequence of events. In a letter to Jeremy Belknap; for instance, Paul Revere summarizes his actions over the course of the night. In reality, Paul Revere s ride was slower paced and far more suspenseful. The poem makes no mention of the British officers that threaten to blow Revere s brains out (Gilder Lehrman). In the letter, there are many more comrades along on the journey, whereas the poem suggest that Revere was a lone rider, storming into each town to alert the people at full gallop. As a result, it is ridiculous to even pose the question of the historical integrity of Longfellow s poem when the first relevant source of information ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theories Of Ecofeminism This chapter presents a review of the ecofeminist theory: the history of man s alienation from women and nature, the basis for the association between women and nature. Different feminist perspectives prior to the theory of ecofeminism and how they handled the mutual relationship between women and nature and how this led to the emergence of the theory of ecofeminism. Some of the important terms in the theory of ecofeminism, ecofeminism and deep ecology, ecofeminism and the feminine principle, characterization of ecofeminist philosophy, ecofeminism and the sense of place, and finally ecofeminism and the division within the theory itself. During the last centuries, and especially after the emergence of the Industrial Revolution, a degradation of our nature has been witnessed. This degradation has occurred in many natural elements: air, water, and soil. Global warming, pollution, water contamination, unstable weather, and many dysfunctions of the once stable earth has made thinkers consider the reason why such deficiencies occur, and how to get things right before it is too late to take an action and our earth goes beyond repair. This current situation has made thinkers from different schools of thought try to figure out when this contamination of nature took place; what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 24. The Importance Of Cultural Diversity In The Workplace The Importance of Cultural Diversity Cultural diversity is defined as The existence of a variety of cultural or ethnic groups within a society (Oxford, 2017). Within the workplace there have been a trend towards promoting diversity by maintaining a workforce with workers differ in area such as race, sexual orientation, age, and gender. This is often times a daunting and difficult task for management. Effective communication can be challenging for diverse groups. Language barriers for example may cause confusion leading to conflict. Another risk to implementing diversity in the workplace is that some employees feel that individuals may have gained their respective position unjustly. Conversely, differing employees may feel out of place and not assimilate well with the rest of the group (Kirby Richard, 2000). Promoting cultural diversity is not just relegate to the hiring of diverse individuals; rather the organization must also seek to create and maintain policies, procedures, training, and even incentives to truly cultivate a positive culturally diverse environment (Patrick and Kumar 2012). With all the time, money, and effort necessary to create and maintain a diverse work environment, leaders are left wondering what if any, benefits can be gained by promoting cultural diversity. Research indicates that there are several valuable assets to fostering cultural diversity in the workplace. Firstly, the makeup of the labor pool is changing. There has been a steady increase ... As many of the operations now a days depend on the database systems, security became a problem because of increase in the number of web applications. If the data is affected in an application, it not only affects that single application but it affects the entire applications present in that system. Data may be damaged not only from the outside damages but may be also from inside damages. Hence, we are using some of the data security techniques like encryption of the data and decryption of the data for keeping the data safe. Introduction for security of DB: Security of data mainly concerned with the factors like observation of any of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, information control is required for the correct flow of data. For the encryption of the data, we use the cryptographic control. There are different types of components which provide the data protection in the DBMS. Some such components are access control and semantic correctness. Secrecy of data is maintained by the access control. If a person wants to make changes to the data, then it checks for whether the person trying to change the data is the appropriate user or not by using some of the security points. By these security points we can say that whether the person can use the data or not. Secrecy of data can also be maintained by the use of some techniques like encryption which is applied to the data when transmitted or when stored. Now the problem is how to change or access the encrypted data. There is a technique called semantic correctness which verifies the semantics of data. If the semantics are correct data can be accessed. The data is stored in the form of symbols. At the end we can recover the data and can make sure whether the data is correct and it is available by using of the recovery system and concurrency control. Now the research areas are also included in the database security. There are some special techniques involved in the research part which are order preserving and privacy preserving. The applications mainly based on the privacy and the correctness of order. Layers at organization for security: To implement the security of database ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Dan Way, Dr. Shea reported that short term toxic harm resulted from the spill, and that there were only isolated cases of coal ash contaminating groundwater (2014). However, there was agreement that long term monitoring was necessary at the Dan River to assess longer term damages. Additionally, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a response update to assess potential impacts to human and aquatic life (2014). The method the EPA employed was to analyze surface water and sediments for contaminants and compare those results to its screening levels. To assess impact to human health, the EPA compared the sediment data to health risk screening levels and compared drinking water samples to Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) as well as to other indicators. Overall, the EPA found those levels found in sediment data and water samples to not exceed human health screening levels and thus determined that there wasn t significant risk to human health, although the EPA did recommend that people do not come in direct contact with coal ash as it could still pose health risks. These findings were consistent with that of Dr. Shea. Secondarily, the EPA compared the sediment data and water samples to ecological risk based screening levels. In this study, the EPA did find some levels to exceed ecological screening levels in both the sediment data and water samples. The action that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While there have been previous riots because of race relations, none of them were of the magnitude of the 1943 Detroit riot. Newsweek and Time describe gangs joining in the fighting as reinforcements and Time also adds that in all of the looting, pawn shops were being raided by the rioters to acquire guns. According to Harper?s? sources, white sailors begin to join in on the brawl thus further escalating it, while a black man runs to a nearby club and announced that a group of white men had raped and killed a black woman and her daughter. • 42. Mailor-Callow Embodied Cultural Capital Under the concept of capital, schools role can be best understood as intermediaries where exchange across different forms of capital and creation of new capital take place. In other words, through school, cultural capital and social capital could be exchangeable, and specific capital could be created or adopted. Jamal s intellectual and athletic talents and aspiration (embodied cultural capital) lead to a higher social status (new social capital for Jamal) through Mailor Callow (a school). He is able to receive wide recognition due to the platform that Mailor Callow has provided essay competition and high schoolbasketball championship series. Furthermore, through challenging and intense class assignments and writing competition, Jamal is able to transform his aspiration (embodied cultural capital) and bond with Forrester (social capital) into excellent writing skills (new embodied cultural capital). Jamal is often found reading and writing under Forrester s instruction, but all of these would not have been possible if Jamal has not attended Mailor Callow, as Forrester states: questions of your writing suggest what you are going to do in your life. And this is the question that your present school could not answer for you. Mailor Callow enables Jamal to achieve excellence by constantly challenging him. For example, Jamal would have not asked Forrester for help in writing if professor Crawford has not criticized his writing and doubted his academic legitimacy for this ... • 43. Essay On The Conflict Between China And Russia The Second Sino Japanese War (formerly addressed as the China Incident ) took place in China from 1937 until 1945. In this war, the Japanese sought out China s abundance of raw materials and land. The two forces, China and Japan, battled over the control of said materials and most importantly, land. Before this, China was mainly concerned with the civil war (which was on and off until 1950, years after the Second Sino Japanese war) between nationalists (Kuomintang party lead by Chiang Kai Shek) and communists (Communist Party of China lead by Mao Zedong). This war also served as an introduction to the Pacific end of World War II. This conflict began on behalf of the Japanese occupying northern China, more specifically, Manchuria. This occupation began relatively early on, before there was a full blown war. Both Japan and Russia, as a result of the war between those two powers two decades ago in the early 1900 s, occupied Manchuria. The Japanese s interest in China seemed to have expanded to be more than just resources but rather total control of the country. They preyed on weak, dismembered China and feared China unifying into a solid nation under the guidance of the Kuomintang party. This boiling mix of tensions and fear lead to what would be known as the Manchurian or Mukden Incident. This incident describes the fright within the Japanese when an unidentified bomb went off on a Japanese railway in Mukden. The Imperial Japanese Army guards in charge of the railway took ... • 44. Exploring The Various Meanings Of Spirituality A worldview consists of values and theories that provide guidance in understanding reality, the essence of life (Shelly Miller, 2006). There are different ways of interpreting the world and there are various factors that influence an individual s view of his or her total wellbeing. These factors include spirituality and religious background, beliefs and experiences. According to Funk (2001), a worldview is a set of beliefs that control an individual s thinking, knowing and doing. Individuals adhere to their model of worldview to lay a framework of attitudes about life and the world. Some aspects of worldview are shared by many in the population. However, concepts and elements vary for each person. This paper aims to explore the various meanings of spirituality as it relates to health care, human personhood, reality, death and afterlife, knowledge, code of ethics and human history. Perspectives on Spirituality Spirituality is a common human element which resides in every individual and it is a compelling force that keeps an individual evolving and developing (Goddard, 1995). Frequently with God as its central focus, spirituality is a person s belief in a greater power and his or her connectedness to God. Gotsis Kortezi (2008) adds that spirituality is a person s purpose to his or her existence and a desire to find its divine meaning. Philosophies such as, religious beliefs and practices, love for family and compassion to others all provide depth to the meaning of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Decline Of Reading In The US People today have lost interest in reading. Otis Kramer says in The Decline of Reading in the U.S. Damages Our Intellectual Life, For the first time in modern history, less than half of the adult population now reads literature. When children are not taught to enjoy reading they carry that through life which causes problems that are hard to fix later in life. There is a loss of interest in readingbecause of schools, parents and technology. This can cause problems with intellect and mental states. Parents can solve this, if they teach their children to enjoy readingearly on. The lack of interest in reading is due to many things, but tends to begin with young children. Schools and parents do not encourage their children to read for fun (Charleston). Parents do so because they were not taught to enjoy reading, or they do not have time. Schools, on the other hand, create an environment where reading becomes more of a chore than a fun activity (Denby). Schools do try to teach kids to enjoy reading, teachers will set times or page numbers for their students to read. A study on this method has shown that when told to only read a set amount of time or pages, children will only read the amount required by the teachers. The things that children read are normally not something they chose. This decision creates a hatred for reading in children, even if they loved to read before. In many case, such as assignments make the students hate the book they have just read, no matter how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Disney s Influence On Disney Disney has been around for many generations of people s lives and has had a true impact on most of society, but now Disney is slowly straying away from the true purpose that they have built all of their old work upon. No longer is Disney focused on being a magical company, but more of one that has the most power in the world, which they have already been able to achieve. Disney now appears to be profit hungry by producing films that relate to society rather than inspire it, or repeat an old animation film through live action, i.e. Cinderella. Society s influence on Disney became so grand, with the demands of more feminist movies, different ethnicities, etc. that Disney decided to please society. Disney now is meeting these demands with... While these perspectives have well thought ideas, from my view point, Disney is straying away from being magical to slowly transforming into becoming a people pleasing company. All of this helps them gain more profit and creates greed/lust for more. Disney has been alive through many generations. As people age, the mind s thought process changes. Due to this, it is said that people grow out of old interests, which some put Disney into this. Instead of Disney being the one to change, it is the older generations. Disney supposedly aims for a certain age group. In a journal by Towbin, children are discussed towards the beginning because Disney is known to have a huge influence on them through media because media is how they learn now a days and Disney takes a part in shaping their future. That is where the argument appears about Disney not changing because if they truly changed, the children would not enjoy the films as much as they do already, always wanting to be a certain Disney princess or another character. Adults have already found their passion, how to function and go through life, this being said, the Disney films are just there for the adults to watch for entertainment if wished, and if not, it was intended for a child to begin with. Social Class In The Victorian Age The books of Dickens have a place completely with the philanthropic development of the Victorian Age, of which they are, in fact, in the circle of fiction, by a wide margin an essential item and expression. He was from first to last a writer for a reason. Dickens embarked to assault some particular mishandle or misuse existing towards youngsters and ladies amid the Victorian period. Amid the Modern Insurgency, the Victorian culture comprised of a hierarchical structure include the privileged, trailed by the white collar class, the average workers and the ruined underclass. These distinctive social classes could be recognized by disparities in territories, for example, legislative issues, specialist, riches, training, culture, working and living conditions. Individuals from the lower class were seen as nonsensical, juvenile, superstitious, ruthless, exorbitantly sexual and tarnished. Because of the feebleness of the lower class people, they were oppressed to misuse and treatment like that of creatures. In light of destitution, kids were constrained into youngster work and compelled to act as fireplace sweepers, and they could slither up the twelve by fourteen inch stacks, some as little as seven inches square, with the goal that they would get out the yearly standard of forty gallons of sediment that was kept there. • 52. The Pros And Cons Of Free Trade Free trade is a capitalist concept that advocates for a seamless and free flow of goods and services that is virtually unhindered by state imposed restrictions or trade barriers. Over the years, the American government has signed multiple agreements with governments across the world, to encourage trade between the continental United States and other countries around the globe. Indeed, bilateral agreements ranging from AGOA, NAFTA, and TPP have been signed by successive Washington administrations, ostensibly to encourage Americans to reap financial benefits from global trade. The open and free tradeidea is anchored on the maxim that no country possesses all the services and products that it needs, at any given time. Countries across the Americas fro instance and by extension globally have seen a proliferation in the number of treaties and preferential trade agreements by economies to boost trade. In this regard, some countries are well endowed with extensive natural resources such as oil, gas, and gold, while others may lack them but still need to use these resources. Nevertheless, the sovereign is permitted under international trade laws to impose certain levels of trade restrictions for valid reasons such as protecting its infant industries and taming dumping of substandard goods. In this regard, the world is moving towards protectionism with scores of countries imposing tariff and non tariff barriers as well as the complete ban of certain class of goods from overseas or ... • 53. Reflection On Career Development A.This lesson mainly addressed aspects related to career development. This lesson encourages students to discover their academic and personal strengths, their skillsets, and their interests. Students then take those concepts and apply them to career exploration. They are able to link their strengths, preferences, and abilities to potential future careerpaths. Some of the specific aspects of career development that I addressed include applying planning and career exploration in setting and obtaining lifelong career goals, applying necessary skills for career readiness and success, and teaching students where and how to obtain information about post secondary options. In this lesson students are encouraged to apply decision making skills to place different careers into the appropriate career fields. In doing so, they are also encouraged to begin thinking about careers that are of interest to them and what career goals they have for themselves. They will be given resources in order to continue career exploration outside of the classroom. While I do not expect sixth graders to fully decide their career path, it is my firm belief that it is never too early to get students thinking about careers and having them set goals in order to obtain the career and future that they desire. I also believe that this unit touches on social and emotional development as well as academic development. This lesson allows the student to collaborate with one another and work in groups as well as in pairs. This promotes relationship building and teamwork. It also allows students to take an inventory of their personal strengths and skillsets. This could boost self esteem and promotes a sense of self awareness. Lastly, this unit also encompasses academic development. Students will understand that good grades and academic success are key elements to obtaining the career that they wish to have. By being academically successful, this will allow them greater options and opportunity post high school graduation. B.In today s world, I feel as though it is very important to incorporate technology into lesson plans. Technology helps keep children engaged and we are now living in a world where technology is all around us. I was able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Destructive Colonization Exposed in Shooting an Elephant and Heart of Darkness As a man is captured, his first instinct is to try and break free from his shackles and chains. Primal urges such as this often accompany humans when they are forced, as in capture, to rely on their most basic instincts to survive. In this manner, natives in Africa acted upon instinct when the Europeans arrived to take their land and freedom. However, the natives had not shown much interest while [the elephant] was merely ravaging their homes, but it was different now that [the elephant] [is] going to be shot. (Century, 146) Shooting this elephant has much significance because it illustrates the control over the natives that the colonizers had. Orwell needed to kill the elephant in order to support his position of a law figure in his town. The elephant was unruly to begin with, but it also served as a reminder for Orwell s constituents about who was in power, and who had control. Control is also used in The Heart of Darkness when Marlow first sees a group of natives, dying slowly it [is] very clear . They had [become] inefficient as Marlow states. Inefficient with the job and labor that was forced upon them by the colonizers. In this manner, it is evident that the natives were forced to work and die against their will. Heidegger s Relationship Between Poetry And Poetry In the words of Heidegger, the poem is a vortex that snatches us away not gradually, but suddenly, and thus we are drawn into a conversation. Understanding of poetry is essential to Heidegger s philosophy. There are two notions, which seem to stand at opposite poles, which are poetry and technology. They seem to be opposed forms of truth. In modern civilization, we see the world through our technology, but there was a time when the truth was seen through poetry. Holderlin (1770 1843) a symbol of the German Romantic Movement had a great impact on Heidegger s poetic thinking. In his various treatises, Heidegger clarifies his intent in studying thought through poetry and to enter into the truth of the poems studied. Heidegger believed that language ...
