Not All Dreams Come True in Their Eyes Were Watching God...
At one point in every persons life, they have a dream. However, not all hopes and dreams come true.
In the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, the protagonist, Janie Crawford,
experiences the deaths of some of her dreams, but she also experiences the success of one. The deaths
of these dreams change her opinion of men and caused her to become unsure of love.
Ships at a distance have every man s wish on board. For some they come in with the tide...Then they
act and do things accordingly (Hurston 1). Men have different views on dreams than women do.
Women typically live their dreams while men realize the difference between reality and the illusion of
their dreams. This pertains to Janie because her entire life was ... Show more content on

Then she went inside there to see what it was. It was her image of Jody tumbled down and shattered
(67 68). With time, he changed. He became violent and started to beat Janie. The fact that he wasn t
the same person that she thought he was after all this time broke her. She couldn t trust him any
longer. Janie thought she knew who he was, but his actions proved otherwise. Once Joe had died, she
became a new person. She tore off her kerchief from her head and let down her plentiful hair. The
weight, the length, the glory was there (83). She finally became who she wanted to be and didn t feel
like she had to act a certain way for someone. It was almost as if she had removed a mask that she was
wearing throughout her entire marriage with Jody. Janie was finally herself. She was finally free.
When she meets Tea Cake, she is no longer mourning over the death of her husband. Her next thought
brought her crashing down. He s just saying anything for the time being, feeling he s got me so I ll b

through with Jody. The way that she was treated messed with her mind and her opinions when it came
to men. Could she trust them or not? She overcomes her trust issues and falls in love with Tea Cake
over time. Janie buried Tea Cake in Palm Beach...Janie had wired to Orlando for money to put him

Gram Positive And Gram-Positive Bacteria
Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria can be distinguished by conducting biochemical tests. Its
growth can be examined on selected mediums containing metabolic inhibitors such as antibiotics. The
medias utilized in this project are: media containing the antibiotic vancomycin, Eosin Methylene Blue
lactose (EMB lactose) agar, and Phenylethyl alcohol (PEA) agar (Holbrook and Leicht 2017).
Vancomycin is most effective at inhibiting the growth of Gram positive cocci (Rotschafer et al. 2005).
EMB lactose agar inhibits the growth of many Gram positive bacteria and the lactose component of
the medium allows for lactose fermenting bacteria to cause color changes within the medium
(Reynolds 2011). The presence of lactose fermenters in the EMB lactose agar will cause a color
change in the resulting colonies based on the strength of their acidity. A metallic green colony
indicates that that active fermenters are present. A pink colony indicates that weak fermenters are
present. If a bacterial species does not ferment lactose, it will appear white or colorless (Holbrook and
Leicht 2017). PEA agar is a selective medium that inhibits the growth of most Gram negative bacteria
species. It does so by interrupting the lipids within the Gram negative cell membrane, which will
affect its permeability to certain molecules. This could result in the intake of materials that are
supposed to be blocked and the release of potassium from within the cell, which is necessary for DNA
synthesis (Lal and

Buddhism and Hinduism in America Essay
Buddhism and Hinduism in America
The Unites States is home to the most diverse spectrum of religions in the world. There are
representations of nearly every religion in the world. There are three basic ways religions arrive in the
US: import, export, and baggage. Buddhism and Hinduism are two Asian religions that have made it
across the Pacific Ocean and now exist along side many others in America. ISKCON, a form of
Hinduism, and Zen, a form of Buddhism, are two such groups.
All Indian movements have always had a charismatic leader associated with them. Bhaktivedanta
Swami Prabhupada was no different. Born Abhay Charan De 1896 1977 was the founder and spiritual

Temples have altars and many statues or depictions of Krishna in which one can perform puja to
Krishna. Mantras are also performed several times daily. These mantras are usually very simple like,
Hare Krishna, Hare Rama. Like other forms of Hinduism, ISKCON holds the Vedas and the Bhagavad
Gita historically true, but does not follow traditional Indian ways. Devotees of Krishna believe that he
lives in a paradisal world and with enough love and devotion for Krishna they can break free from the
karmic cycle and enter into this paradise.
ISKCON beliefs are derived from the Chaitanya Krishnaite sect, which was started by Chaitanya
Mahaprabhu. He is believed to have been an incarnation of Radha and Krishna. He taught that with
enough love for Krishna, one could burn away from karma to achieve moksha. ISKCON and
Chaitanya Krishnaitism differs from other Vishnuite groups, because they do not hold Vishnu as there
God, but just one of his incarnations.
Moundsville, West Virginia is home to many ISKCON members. These people live and work on
communal farms. The spiritual master leads ISKCON members through every detail of their lives.
They have definitive schedules in which they follow daily. These schedules are either divided into
time spent working on the farms or missionizing, and performing puja or chanting a mantra to
Krishna. Although dating is not allowed members may be married, but the master always arranges
them. Sex is for procreation

ASDA Correspondence Channels
Question 4: Internal communications plays a vital role in creating a unified sense of purpose in
institutions. Clear and effective internal communications are especially important during periods of
relative uncertainty, such as corporate mergers or restructuring, serving to boost employee morale and
keep investors, partners and stakeholders up to date with developments. (Brown, 2002) In ASDA
correspondence channels are formal and casual. The organization perceives the significance of casual
correspondence channels. They convey formal correspondences to empower and provoke casual

Televised Courtrooms In Canada
Televised Courtrooms
Against
If we let the courtrooms be televised to the public, they will start to lose faith in the court system if
they do not like what they see. Citizens who watch the programs are most likely going to have a bias
and will desire a final judgement that will go one way more than the other. A judge s or jury s verdict
might cause mass hysteria which can have negative effects to a jury member s personal life and the
reputation of the justice done in Canada. The country will ridicule the judge even though they do not
understand the law fully themselves and criticize the jury for unanimously voting for someone to be
guilty or not guilty when the viewers want a differing response. The jury do not know everything
going on outside of the court and what the media is saying therefore the nation might have an
opposing opinion to them. Their faces will be plastered on television for anyone to see and for anyone
to judge them. This will stress out an already uncomfortable jury. Alternatively, another result could be
the jury being swayed by the public to select a certain decision instead of their own. As a ... Show

murders and robberies occurring in Canada. The media will catch fire over these felonies causing

since the news stations and media will be broadcasting to the public about all these scandals and

Nazi s Persecution Of The Handicapped Essay

Holocaust is considered one of the worst man caused disaster ever in the history of human life.
Hundreds of millions of people died during the Holocaust. Even worse, the victim of the Holocaust is
based on race. Why did Adolf Hitler pick on the Jews? Because when he wants to rise power, one of
the most common ways is propaganda. He said that Jews are the ones that ruined their country. Many
Jews were killed; they were also different kinds of people: just like Jehovah s Witnesses, Roma
Gypsies, Handicapped and many others. While the soldiers were fighting at the front line, hundreds of
thousands of disabled were killed.
Why were the handicapped killed, what s wrong with them? During the time of the war, everything
was scarce, the food, the ammo, and many other resources. And a bunch of other works that they need
to do with the use of human resources. Germany is a small country, with not many workers, and most
people that are strong enough were in the army and went to war. They need enough worker to provide
them with the enough resources that they need. Any people that are in Germany and are not strong
enough (except for children) to work are killed. Hitler and the Nazi think that if they are not strong
enough to work for us and using our resources, what s the point keeping them alive then?
On July 14, 1933, the Nazi government instituted the Law for the Prevention of Progeny with

Only the gold and silver flowed now, not from the coffers of the king, but from the purses of men who

point about universities and the funding that they received from men that had gone to school there.

Thankfully times have changed, and women writers are recognized equally as men are today in
society. The main reason is that women today have an equal chance at education. Education today is
open to everyone, because education can be paid for, or funded in various ways.
Universities today are much easier to attend for anyone that wishes to go to school. There are so many
different types of programs out there today that make education more affordable for people that do not
have the assets to pay for an education themselves. There are many forms of financial aid available for
specific groups of people. For example, there are scholarship programs set up specifically for women,
or programs set up specifically for minorities. There are also programs set up for people with certain
disabilities. These programs are set up in this sort of way to give everyone a chance to fit in to one of
the specific categories. There are many ways to apply for these types of financial aid. You can do them
through your high school, place of work, or even find them over the internet.
What about the people that don t fit into these specific categories? For these people, there are general
financial aid programs established. These programs are set up by private, public, or government
institutions. These programs include scholarships, student loans, grants, and many more. Many of
these types of financial aid

Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park was formally established in 1953 and was recognised as a World
Heritage site in 1986. Approximately 333,340 people visit each year, 30% of whom are New
Zealanders. 60% of all visitors are day trippers.
Biophysical environment definition = The biophysical environment is the biotic and abiotic
surrounding of an organism or population, and consequently includes the factors that have an
influence in their survival, development and evolution
Task 1
Ecological Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park is in the South Island of New Zealand near the town of
Twizel. Aoraki/Mount Cook, New Zealand s highest mountain and Aoraki/Mount Cook village lies
within the park. The area was gazetted as a national park in October 1953 and consists of reserves that
were established as early as 1887 to protect the area s significant vegetation and landscape. The park
covers a little over 700 km2. Glaciers cover 40% of the park area, notably the Tasman Glacier on the
slopes of Aoraki/Mt Cook. The mountains in the national park get higher at a rate of 5 10 mm per
year. It s estimated that approximately 25 km of uplift has occurred overtime, however the rate of
uplift has been countered by glacial erosion of rivers, glaciers and landslides. Rivers and glaciers have
formed large gulley s and u shaped valleys that are

David Hume s An Enquiry Concerning The Principles Of Morals
Throughout the course of history, there have been many philosophers with different ideologies. These
philosophers have written various works to spread and support their ideologies. One philosopher who
wrote about moral thinking and judgement was Hume, supporting his ideologies in An Enquiry
Concerning the Principles of Morals. In this written work he stated that the ultimate source of moral
judgement was feelings. Additionally, he states that an individual s moral thinking was influenced by
reason. Although reason and sentiments work together towards moral judgement, the ultimate source
of moral judgement is sentiments. According to Hume, an individual acts according to their feelings,
and not with reason. As stated in Section 1 of An Enquiry

The Necklace Essay
Guy de Maupassant s The Necklace is a short story about a middle class girl Mathilde, who loses her
friend s costly necklace and spends a decade paying for its replacement. The Necklace represents the
story of a standard young lady who loves her husband, despite her desires to be an affluent person.
However, readers fail to notice that Madame Loisel s love for Monsieur Loisel vanishes upon their
marriage and her materialistic personalities continue to increase. The Necklace is influencing other
stories because of its elegance and love, but people will never understand the melancholy and negative
reality of this narrative. Therefore, in the short story The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, the
protagonist Mathilde is portrayed as a dissatisfied, begrudging, and calumniating character through
her perspective of her average life, her actions toward her friend Madame Forestier, and her husband
Monsieur Loisel. To show that Mathilde is dissatisfied with her ordinary life, the author mentions She
grieved over the shabbiness of her apartment, the dinginess of the walls, the worn out appearance of
the chairs, the ugliness of the draperies (Maupassant 198). This quote tells the reader that Madame

Explain The Structure Of The Respiratory System
P6 describe the structure and function of the respiratory system
The nasal cavity (it can also be known as the nasal fossa) is a large air filled space above and behind
the nose in the middle of the face. Each cavity is the continuation of one of the two nostrils.
This picture shows us where the nasal cavity can be found in the body.
The epiglottis is a flap that is made of elastic cartilage tissue covered with a mucous membrane,
attached to the entrance of the larynx. It projects obliquely upwards behind the tongue and the hyoid

This refers to the process of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide moving between the lungs and blood.
Diffusion occurs when molecules move from an area of high concentration to an area of low
concentration. This occurs during gaseous exchange as the blood in the capillaries surrounding the
alveoli has a lower oxygen concentration of Oxygen than the air in the alveoli which has just been
inhaled. Both alveoli and capillaries have walls which are only one cell thick and allow gases to
diffuse across them. The same happens with Carbon Dioxide. The blood in the surrounding capillaries
has a higher concentration of CO2 than the inspired air due to it being a waste product of energy
production. Therefore CO2 diffuses the other way, from the capillaries, into the alveoli where it can

Essay about Conflict Theory in Vietnam
The history of Vietnam is one of great struggle and conflict. For centuries the vietnamese people have
had no choice but to change their society by force in order to gain their own freedom and
independence. Pivitol events in Vietnamese history such as the Battle of Bach Dang in 939 and the
Battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954 are examples of how the conflict theory brought change to
Vietnamese society and culture.
For centuries Vietnam had been under Chinese rule. The Vietnamese people were an oppressed society
and were exploited by the Chinese. Forced labour was brought upon the Vietnamese people, and there
were many tyrannical Chinese governers along with constant demands of tribute for the Chinese
rulers. There had been many revolts by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Vietnam was a soveriegn nation until 18th century.
This dramatic change which occurred in less than 25 years is all due to the conflict theory. Without the
Battle of Bach Dang it is possible that Vietnam could still be under Chinese rule and the people would
continue to be exploited.
The French colonized Vietnam in two phases. The first occuring between 1859 1862 by occupying
Saigon and surrounding areas in Mekong. In 1883 they annexed the Hanoi and Tonkin regions.
In the early years of French rule, French administrators planned to change Vietnam socially, politically
and economically. No respect was given to the Vietnamese people or their culture. Court officials (
called manderines ) were forced to report to colonial officials instead of the king, diminishing much of
the kings power and role in society. High costs of colonial administrators caused the French to put
high taxes on salt, opium, alcohol and land. Forced labour was also re introduced. French rule had left
the Vietnamese people and their culture impoverished and very much opressed. By 1940 half of
Vietnamese s population was landless. This is was one of the many crippling effects of French
colonial rule in Vietnam.
Although there had been many uprisings, protests and guerrilla groups formed to attempt to over
throw the French, none were successful, and all attempts were crushed by the French military.
In the early 20th Century many more national groups formed.

Attentional Capture by Rare and Constant, Novel, Sudden Onset Stimuli
Samuel Tong (450472150)
ABSTRACT
Novel and rare sudden onset stimuli are known to attract attention in different situations. Previously
Yantis Jonides (1990) have shown novel sudden onsets capture attention mainly when attention is
diffuse, and Neo Chua (2006) have shown rare sudden onsets capture attention so long as attention is
not already pre deployed to a stationary target. The current study aims to examine the interaction
between rarity of a novel, sudden onset and attention pre deployment by cues or stationary targets, and
how this interaction affects the attentional capture of novel sudden onsets. In doing so, a better
understanding of how these stimuli affect attentional processes may be established. Based upon the
experimental findings, it is proposed that when a sudden onset stimulus is both rare and novel, the
attentional capture processes when perceiving these stimuli are influenced by perceptual load and
modes of attention. Implications of these findings are discussed further in the paper.
Attentional Capture by Rare and Constant Novel Sudden Onset Stimuli
Attentional capture is controlled by top down, goal orientated processes, or by bottom up, stimulus
orientated processes (Wolfe, 1994, as cited by Emerson Kramer, 1997). Stimuli that appear suddenly,
or sudden onset stimuli, are known to attract attention in a bottom up fashion (Donderi, Zelnicker

Life And The Truth Behind Of Siddhartha, Phaedrus, And...
Part 1 Siddhartha, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and Oedipus the King, while
seemingly being very different stories, all have similar ideas about truth and meaning, knowledge
versus wisdom, and the impact of oneself internally, which all culminate into the realization of value
within oneself. To find the truth it has been said that one has to look within. It is within those
parameters that Siddhartha, Phaedrus, and Oedipus found what they searched so longingly for. On the
topic of Siddhartha, his search for enlightenment was more of a search for the meaning of life and the
truth behind it. As Thomas J. Schoenberg and Lawrence J. Trudeau put it, The novel, which examines
themes related to spirituality and personal growth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Siddhartha, Siddhartha himself states that, any truth can only be expressed and put into words when
it is one sided. (Hesse, 129). meaning that truth can only be found on your side, because the truth
could be interpreted multiple different ways depending on your perspective. That point is further
enforced within Zen, as Phaedrus ponders existence. But no one is willing to give up the truth as he
sees it,... (Pirsig, 74). As for Oedipus, there is no exact quote available to support the ideas of truth and
meaning, however the development of his learning throughout the story, and the moral of the story to
be learned provide the evidence to support the existence of truth and meaning within the story.
Oedipus learns what he desires to know about Thebes and why it was crumbling only by discovering
his own history. And through that he learned why they must endure the trials and tribulations that were
brought about by the gods. So while these characters developed how to come up with the truth, they
still did not know how to apply it, which leads to the battle between knowledge and wisdom.
Knowledge, just knowing the facts, versus wisdom, having experienced the facts firsthand, are two
very different ideas. Knowledge itself is able to be taught, thanks to instructors. However, wisdom is
not able to be passed down, because people are unable to project experiences onto other people. It is
impossible to tell the story of your experience and expect the

The Russian Revolution And The Revolution
In 1917 a great revolution would collapse Russia s monarchy and extend the color of red throughout
the world. During this time, Leon Trotsky and Vladimir Lenin were instrumental in causing the grand
collapse of the Russian government and the reformation into a communist state. The Russian
revolution changed the world when it happened and I believe it changed the people of Europe after it
occurred.
The Russian Revolution actually has two important parts to it the February Revolution (March 1917)
and the October Revolution (November 1917). The February Revolution, which took place in modern
day St. Petersburg, was lethal to the royal government of Russia. It began with the bread, it was not
like they did not have the supplies for the population, the problem was the breakdown of the transport
system (Figes 68). The February Revolution was also largely caused by the ineffectiveness of the
Russian military in World War One and the failure of the Russian empire throughout the last couple
decades. The people of Russia were ashamed of the military throwing away their lives and having to
eat sparingly to survive the winter. Peasants were so poor they could barely afford a piece of bread for
a week. Mass demonstrations were held in the squares and violence took to the streets. People
ambushed the royal guards in front of the palace and they were shot down by the insignificant force
left to guard the capital. The revolution was largely leaderless as Russian people just wanted food

Starting in AD 800 and hitting its peak from 1050 1200 AD, Cahokia covered six square miles with a

6th Mass Extinction Research Paper
Three Potential Effects of the Next Extinction When the 6th Mass Extinction does occur, the effects
will be tremendous. Unlike the other extinctions, it is predicted that the changes associated with this
extinction will not only create a new epoch in history, but also shape the Earth in the way microbes
evolved into multicellular organisms did (Hance, 2015). The effects, however, will be somewhat
similar to past extinctions. One predicted effect of the 6th Mass Extinction is the availability of empty
niches unoccupied habitats and places in an environment. When a species is killed off by some natural

Many of the animals and plants that currently exist in this world are important pillars of the existing
economy. Unless no dramatic alterations occur over the next couple decades, most likely, these
organisms will continue to play and important role in society. Certain crops, such as corn and
tomatoes, as well as animals, such as cows and pigs, serve as important food sources for the ever
growing human population (Extinction: Causes and Consequences, n.d.). Furthermore, insects such as
bees are invaluable as they help fertilize food sources and help keep a healthy diet available for
people. In the UK, as depicted in the graphic below, the value of honeybees to the economy is
significantly greater than 400 billion euros, the total averaging about two billion euros. With an
extinction of bees would come an extinction of plants and crops, and then animals that relied on those
crops, and animals that relied on those animals and so on (Holland, 2009). Soon enough, food webs
would be toppled, many would starve, and the 6th Mass Extinction would occur. With the depletion of
resources because of it, any organisms left on the planet would have to adapt because everyone that
was left would be in a state of poverty. The damage that was caused would take centuries to recover

The Definition Of Marriage And Family Relationships Essay
What is the definition of marriage in the Bible? Better yet what is the definition of family in the Bible?
In Scripture there are many families which could be studied in order to better answer this question, but
some of the most prominent choices are Abraham s family, David s family, and Solomon s family.
Each of these families in turn had their own sets of issues and problems, but there are also Biblical
solutions to these problems which shall be address through the course of this paper. But, before this is
done it is important to take note of what God s definitions are.
To begin, I will start by explaining what my understanding of marriage and family relationships
according to scripture are supposed to look like. Now, throughout both the Old Testament and New
Testament many commandments are given to both children and parents. For instance, one of the most
obvious commands given to children was, Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live
long in the land the Lord your God is giving you, (Ex. 20:12, New International Version (NIV)). To
honor someone means to treat him or her with respect and put them in a place of high esteem. Honor
and respect means a child should not speak back to their parents, they should not curse out their

The Approaches And Practices Of Language Teaching Essay
The Approaches and Practices in Language Teaching
Communicative Practices in Language Teaching
What is communicative language teaching (CLT)? Brown (2014, p. 236) offered the following four
interrelated characteristics as the definitions of CLT:
1. CLT helps students develop the four competences instead of merely focusing on their linguistic
competence or grammatical competence
2. CLT enables learners to use the language for meaningful purposes in authentic situations. Learning
language forms are not the aim of the approach, but to enable them to engage in authentic interactions
3. Fluency and accuracy activities complement each other as is seen in the underlying communicative
techniques.
4. Students are expected to use the language naturally and in unrehearsed contexts
It s important to engage students in doing some communicative practices. Richard (2006) explained
that communicative practices are those activities that focus on exchanging real information and using
language in an authentic context, thus the communication is based on the specific situation and not
predictable. Communicative language teaching has been proven to be effective in improving students
communicative abilities and other language skills. Richards and Rodgers (2001) also wrote that an
important goal of communicative language teaching is to help students improve their communicative
competence and other language skills. This indicates that the communicative activities can help
language learners

Thernstrom s Argument Analysis
Robert D. Putnam et. al. and Abigail Thernstrom et. al. address affirmative action policies at colleges
and universities as a broader social issue than just an individual getting into the university in their
amicus curiae briefs. Thernstrom submitted her amici brief in favor of the petitioner, Abigail N. Fisher
et. al., and Putnam submits his amici brief in favor of the respondents, The University of Texas et. al.
The University of Texas chose not to admit Ms. Fisher, who was then a high school student. Ms.
Fisher then sued the University, arguing that the use of race in applications and admission decisions to
and of the University were discriminatory under the 14th Amendment s Equal Protection Clause.
These amici briefs were submitted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His experience in the classroom and his substantial research into both the positives and negatives of
diversity make his clear, concise arguments are incredibly convincing, especially in regards to his own
university classroom.
Thernstrom, on the other hand, appears to be attempting to make a case for self evidence. Her
arguments, such as minority students getting into universities because of upward ratcheting appear
unsubstantiated. Indeed, her claim that many minority students cannot catch up to other students itself
appears unsubstantiated. Further, because of she argues that many. Her omission of Dr. Putnam s
research when it directly contradicted her arguments further diminishes her amicus curiae brief.
Affirmative action, and race based admissions standards, are the best way to increase (or maintain)
diversity at institutions of higher learning. In spite of its perceived flaws, it has increased the diversity
at previously all white institutions of higher learning, such as the University of Texas at Austin, and
that diversity has allowed friendships to be formed that otherwise would not have been, has allowed
students to learn from professors they otherwise would never have and allowed professors to learn
from students from a wide variety of

What Does Fire Symbolize In Jane Eyre
Fire, the red room and the splintered chestnut tree are all very powerful and symbolic objects that play
a big role in the story of Jane Eyre; and it also symbolizes Jane as a person who has many
disadvantages in life. The following paragraphs will explain in detail why this objects represent Jane
and how it all ties together as a story.
A candle is a very accurate representation of fire. I chose a candle as an object that represents Jane
because of the passion and fury that she demonstrates in the first stage of her life, at Gateshead. Fire is
symbolic of her emotions and how she truly feels. The following quotes will represent much of her
internal conflicts and her emotional issues.
Wicked and cruel! I said. You are a like a murderer you are like a slave driver you are like the Roman
emperors! .... Dear! dear! What fury to fly at master John!... Did ever anybody see such a picture of
passion! (pg 8). In this quote, Jane is exploding with anger at her cousin John Reed. She is super mad
at him and calls him cruel and a murderer . The way in which she goes off on him is very emotional
and frowned upon because of her gender and social class. Bessie and Miss Abbot claim Jane to be a
picture of passion and exclaim that Jane must have been in a massive fury attack to act ... Show more

I shall remember how you trust me back roughly and violently into the red room, and locked me up
there, to my dying day; though I was in agony... (pg 42) In this quote, Jane exhibits angry and

kindness and that her aunt has no pity . This quote exhibits the most hatred that Jane has felt
throughout this whole novel and shows her need for powerful emotions, such as love. Both of these
quotes give an accurate representation of how Jane s emotions resemble

The Effects Of Victorian Culture On The Arthurian Legends
The Effect of Victorian Culture on the Arthurian Legends
The Arthurian legends stand as a mutable model of the perfect court and ruler which has been
transformed by authors over the centuries to fit new cultural ideals and Tennyson s Idylls of the King
is no exception to this pattern of transformation. With his retellings of the tales of King Arthur based
on earlier models of the stories, most notably the works of Sir Thomas Malory, Tennyson represents
some of the most common Victorian cultural views. This representation is most clearly observable in
his portrayal of the female character of Guinevere and the concept of sexual morality in a tale that
places great emphasis on the effects of the adulterous affair between Sir Lancelot and ... Show more

Essentially a woman s only expected or accepted role was to be a good wife and societal pressures
were exerted to ensure that women would adhere to this expectation. Women are essentially meant to
serve men in this society which is a contrast to Malory s Arthurian society in which men of the
chivalric code were expected to be in service to women. It is important to note the way in which the
Malorian world places such high value on knights providing service to women (Ackerman 8) which
seems to give women some power, but actually made women analogous to a prize or a pawn in many
respects and failed to give the female characters any active role in the story. The main distinction of
Tennyson s version seems to be the agency he gives his female characters, but that doesn t necessarily
mean women were represented and treated fairly in the poems. So, the two societies seem similar in
some respects yet the main difference between them lies in the agency given to female characters and
the amount of importance placed on different cultural ideals. The most significant of those ideals in
both Tennyson s retelling and the Victorian society in general is the exaggeration of feminine virtue
and subsequent emphasis of a woman s chastity as essential to the foundation of the society.
The portrayal of Guinevere in the two versions of the story provides an

American Born Chinese Children under Chinese Culture
According to the American Heritage Dictionary, socialization is the process of learning interpersonal
and interactional skills that are in conformity with the values of one s society (American Heritage). It
is a process of learning culture. During socialization, children will acquire attitudes, norms, values,
behaviors, personalities, etc. within agencies of socialization, which were described as Agencies of

According to Huabin Chen and William Lan, cultural and historical background will influence people
s behavior. The Chinese culture is more family oriented. The family or society takes priority over
values of the individuals. Chinese people have very strong family loyalty and cohesiveness (Chen 2).
In China, Children at a very early age will be trained to be more responsible to the family. They
become more likely to obey and respect their parents; otherwise, they will feel guilty of disgracing
their families. What happens to Chinese immigrant families in USA? In the Youth Radio website, an
ABC was interviewed and expressed her own feeling regarding to the identity. Christina, a teen ABC
said: What do you do when American values clash with the values of your family? If you please your
parents, you re unhappy, but if you don t please them, they re unhappy. You can t win. (Kwong 1).
There are a lot of different norms, values, life styles, beliefs and language between the Chinese culture
and American culture. So, many teen ABC s always suffer the conflict from the Chinese traditional
immigrant families as well as from American society. Also, one teen ABC told in Youth Radio that,
My parents don t really need to tell me what they want from me...I ve instilled their Chinese values in
myself. But my mind and heart are both Chinese and American, no labels necessary. (Kwong 1).

Self Assessment And Education Planning
Self assessment and Education Planning Through experience, I ve learned to pursue some

that I participated in while growing up. For example, I enjoyed helping my mother care for my
younger sibling; this is probably why my strongest interest on the RIASEC spectrum falls within the

The Change to Trade Routes Over Time
In 300 C.E., trade routes were primarily between Europe and North Africa. The way that they changed
by 1450 C.E. was that they expanded southward and westward. By 1450, these trade routes went all
the way through West Africa, sub Saharan Africa, and the Indian Ocean. One factor that was
unchanged during this time period was that the northern coast of Africa was always involved in the
trade between Africa and the rest of Eurasia. The trade networks between African and Eurasia
remained very important during this time period by means of the trade networks contributions to the
Afro Eurasian world. The ebb and flow of trade between Africa and Eurasia during the period 300 to
1450 C.E really reflects the struggles and fortunes of the three dominant religions in the area;
Christianity, Buddhism and an upstart known as Islam. Although Christianity and Buddhism were well
established by this time, the growth of Islam was a catalyst to many of the changes about to occur,
such as new trade partners. Christianity and Buddhism were continuities, whereas a new religion
called Islam was an example of change.
In 622 C.E., Islam was founded which helped flourish trade. The founding of Islam amplified trade
because Islam linked Swahili city states to the larger Indian Ocean which was an important part of the
trade routes between Africa and Eurasia. In the Southern ends of the Swahili world the birth of Islam
extended the impact of the Indian Ocean trade well into the African interior.

Private Schools Vs Public Schools
Around half millions of students study in private schools, which almost represents the fifth of students
in Saudi Arabia. Although a lot of families prefer to make their children study in private school, that
does not mean they are completely satisfied about the schools quality and their children achievement
(Al Hagbani, 2013). Nevertheless, they still enroll their children in private schools, believing they will
benefit more from studying in private schools than public schools. In addition, some parents believe
that private schools are more flexible, have more educational activities and are more conscientious of
students problems and needs (Al Garieb, 2013). In a study aimed at exploring the reason behind the
penchant towards private schools, Bukhari and Randall (2009), after reviewing literatures about
parents choices, stated that parents tend to choose private schools over public schools when they
realize that their children s needs are not met in public schools. Many studies have been conducted in
the educational field to explore the differences between private and public schools. These studies were
conducted in an attempt to find out which type of school is better. Some of these studies focused on
teaching quality such as a study conducted by McKinnon et al (2013), while others were a qualitative
comparison, such as a study conducted by Iqbal (2012). Since schools can help students create good
study habits, some of the studies compared the study habits between

C. Wright Mills s The Power Elite
Certain changes, which defy many of the fondest beliefs, have taken place in the American society.
People have retransformed from an independent thinking public into a mass society manipulated by
commanders of unequaled powers. Sociologist C. Wright Mills carefully documented this
phenomenon in his book entitled The Power Elite , opening the debate with a meaningful sentence:
The powers of ordinary men are circumscribed by the everyday worlds in which they live, yet even in
these rounds of job, family and neighborhood they often seem driven by forces they can neither
understand nor govern .
What does Power Elite mean?
The Power Elite is a critical study of the American power structure, in which Mills argued that a single
elite (the ruler) decides for the nation as a whole, leaving minor decisions for the middle level person
to handle and almost nothing for the common ones (the ruled). His theory suggests that power in the
U.S. is concentrated in the hand of a close knit group whose member s observations is conducted
around 1960.
This elite is not an aristocracy argued Mills. It is not a political ruling group based upon a nobility of
hereditary origin. There is no obvious compact basis in a small circle of great families whose members

Trigger warnings have long been a main stay for feminist websites, used to alert readers to graphic
descriptions of abuse or violence. (Moore) First thing s first, people define being triggered in two
different ways as time has progressed. Technically, something triggering a person meant that they saw
something that gave them a flashback to a traumatic memory, such as abuse or rape.. Recently, people
are associating trigger warnings with people who get upset when someone has different views than
they do and want nothing to do with a topic they don t agree with. While these warnings are meant in
good nature and safety, they spoil the experience of the piece by giving away what it store for the
viewer. These kinds of warnings don t work the way spoiler alerts, NSFW warnings, or film ratings
do; trigger warnings detail specific pinpoints about an art piece to prevent the viewer to remember a
traumatic experience in the past, or to prevent people who are disturbed by a topic from viewing it.

Drama Research Paper Shakespeare s Play Othello is one of the more notable plays produced during
his playwright tenure, the play starts off with Othello who is a moor but the general of the Venetian
Army. In this particular play Shakespeare placed several different themes throughout the play but two
of the main themes were Love and Race. Othello is strong, confident man he is the head of one the
most prestigious armies in all Europe. But with all that success Othello had envious people watching
gain all this success, one of the people s name is Iago who. The straw that finally broke the camel s
back is when Othello eloped with the beautiful Desdemona daughter of Venetian senator Brabantio.
She disappoints her father by having wed the moor Othello and he disowns her for having done such a
deed. Brabantio even said to Othello that Desdemona would betray him just like she betrayed her
father.
In fact, being that Othello was from a foreign land and he was dark skinned this angered Iago even
more to the point that he concocted an elaborate story to break up Desdemona and Othello. Iago
manipulated Othello into believing that his sweet, loving was an adulteress and has lain with none
other than Michael Cassio. Othello has great love for Desdemona so when he hears this news he
becomes enraged. Through all the adversity he has faced for marrying Desdemona, he was even

Ky-Nos Castle Analysis
The Hauntings of Craig Y Nos Castle in Wales
By Claire Barrand
Craig Y Nos Castle which in Welsh, means Rock of the Night, Maintains a reputation as the Most
Haunted Castle in Wales, having been visited by Most Haunted, alongside numerous other TV shows
which have also filmed at the castle. My sister Linzi and I have investigated this location together
twice and have not been disappointed, in fact, we would have to say this location is in our top three for
paranormal activity!
The Early Years
The history itself is epic enough to inspire a Hollywood feature film. The story begins in 1840 when
the neo gothic castle, set beside the River Tawe on the edge of the breathtaking Brecon Beacons, was
built by an ambitious Captain Rice Davies. Using local limestone to form the impressive structure he
got carried away with turrets and pyramids and ran out of money being unable to complete the north
wing before moving in in 1843 to begin his life as a country gentleman.
Davies became a county magistrate and a High Sheriff of Brecknock. However, rumours of a curse on
the family spread as misfortune fell upon the family when his younger son died of cholera in 1851,
and he lost both his wife and his daughter to illness before he died in 1862.
Two years later, his Davies son died in a hunting accident on the Isle of Wight. Sarah, the eldest
daughter, and her husband Captain Allaway lived at the castle after his death, until disaster struck once
more and the Captain also died a few years later. His widow relocated to Tenby, and the property sold
in 1875 76, purchased by the Morgan family of Abercrave for £6000.
The Adelina Patti Years
In 1878, the castle and its setting attracted the attentions of the leading opera star of that day Italian
Adelina Patti, who announced that she had found the home of her dreams and an offer of £3500
accepted for the castle and surrounding parkland.
A demanding soprano with a colourful private life, she was said to have had numerous affairs
including one with the tenor Mario. The prima donna was the at the peak of her spectacular career and
desired to spend the rest of her life at Craig y nos. She built an incredible private theatre which held

lands suffered physical damage.
After the Hurricane struck, Haiti s health issues spiked. Cholera has been a reoccurring epidemic in
the country. Cholera came in again carried by the flooding. Since late 2010, an estimated 10,000
deaths have been attributed by the disease, and hundreds of thousands have been sickened (Ahmed 10,

opened up in the southern city Rendel to try and cure as many as possible. Cholera is ravaging Haiti
once more. In Haiti, not even their drinking water is safe to drink. Their water is infected with bacteria
and disease. Some of these diseases include hepatitis a and b, cholera, and others. When the flooding
came in, the diseases and feces picked up off the land infected the drinking water, making it virtually

  • 2. Not All Dreams Come True in Their Eyes Were Watching God... At one point in every persons life, they have a dream. However, not all hopes and dreams come true. In the novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, the protagonist, Janie Crawford, experiences the deaths of some of her dreams, but she also experiences the success of one. The deaths of these dreams change her opinion of men and caused her to become unsure of love. Ships at a distance have every man s wish on board. For some they come in with the tide...Then they act and do things accordingly (Hurston 1). Men have different views on dreams than women do. Women typically live their dreams while men realize the difference between reality and the illusion of their dreams. This pertains to Janie because her entire life was ... He became violent and started to beat Janie. The fact that he wasn t the same person that she thought he was after all this time broke her. She couldn t trust him any longer. Janie thought she knew who he was, but his actions proved otherwise. Once Joe had died, she became a new person. She tore off her kerchief from her head and let down her plentiful hair. The weight, the length, the glory was there (83). She finally became who she wanted to be and didn t feel like she had to act a certain way for someone. It was almost as if she had removed a mask that she was wearing throughout her entire marriage with Jody. Janie was finally herself. She was finally free. When she meets Tea Cake, she is no longer mourning over the death of her husband. Her next thought brought her crashing down. He s just saying anything for the time being, feeling he s got me so I ll b lieve him... (100). Although she is happy, she seems to be wary of Tea Cake after what she went through with Jody. The way that she was treated messed with her mind and her opinions when it came to men. Could she trust them or not? She overcomes her trust issues and falls in love with Tea Cake over time. • 3. Gram Positive And Gram-Positive Bacteria Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria can be distinguished by conducting biochemical tests. Its growth can be examined on selected mediums containing metabolic inhibitors such as antibiotics. The medias utilized in this project are: media containing the antibiotic vancomycin, Eosin Methylene Blue lactose (EMB lactose) agar, and Phenylethyl alcohol (PEA) agar (Holbrook and Leicht 2017). Vancomycin is most effective at inhibiting the growth of Gram positive cocci (Rotschafer et al. 2005). EMB lactose agar inhibits the growth of many Gram positive bacteria and the lactose component of the medium allows for lactose fermenting bacteria to cause color changes within the medium (Reynolds 2011). The presence of lactose fermenters in the EMB lactose agar will cause a color change in the resulting colonies based on the strength of their acidity. A metallic green colony indicates that that active fermenters are present. A pink colony indicates that weak fermenters are present. If a bacterial species does not ferment lactose, it will appear white or colorless (Holbrook and Leicht 2017). PEA agar is a selective medium that inhibits the growth of most Gram negative bacteria species. It does so by interrupting the lipids within the Gram negative cell membrane, which will affect its permeability to certain molecules. This could result in the intake of materials that are supposed to be blocked and the release of potassium from within the cell, which is necessary for DNA synthesis (Lal and ... • 4. Buddhism and Hinduism in America Essay Buddhism and Hinduism in America The Unites States is home to the most diverse spectrum of religions in the world. There are representations of nearly every religion in the world. There are three basic ways religions arrive in the US: import, export, and baggage. Buddhism and Hinduism are two Asian religions that have made it across the Pacific Ocean and now exist along side many others in America. ISKCON, a form of Hinduism, and Zen, a form of Buddhism, are two such groups. All Indian movements have always had a charismatic leader associated with them. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada was no different. Born Abhay Charan De 1896 1977 was the founder and spiritual master of ISKCON, International Society of Krishna Consciousness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Temples have altars and many statues or depictions of Krishna in which one can perform puja to Krishna. Mantras are also performed several times daily. These mantras are usually very simple like, Hare Krishna, Hare Rama. Like other forms of Hinduism, ISKCON holds the Vedas and the Bhagavad Gita historically true, but does not follow traditional Indian ways. Devotees of Krishna believe that he lives in a paradisal world and with enough love and devotion for Krishna they can break free from the karmic cycle and enter into this paradise. ISKCON beliefs are derived from the Chaitanya Krishnaite sect, which was started by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He is believed to have been an incarnation of Radha and Krishna. He taught that with enough love for Krishna, one could burn away from karma to achieve moksha. ISKCON and Chaitanya Krishnaitism differs from other Vishnuite groups, because they do not hold Vishnu as there God, but just one of his incarnations. Moundsville, West Virginia is home to many ISKCON members. These people live and work on communal farms. The spiritual master leads ISKCON members through every detail of their lives. They have definitive schedules in which they follow daily. These schedules are either divided into time spent working on the farms or missionizing, and performing puja or chanting a mantra to Krishna. • 6. Televised Courtrooms In Canada Televised Courtrooms Against If we let the courtrooms be televised to the public, they will start to lose faith in the court system if they do not like what they see. Citizens who watch the programs are most likely going to have a bias and will desire a final judgement that will go one way more than the other. A judge s or jury s verdict might cause mass hysteria which can have negative effects to a jury member s personal life and the reputation of the justice done in Canada. The country will ridicule the judge even though they do not understand the law fully themselves and criticize the jury for unanimously voting for someone to be guilty or not guilty when the viewers want a differing response. The jury do not know everything going on outside of the court and what the media is saying therefore the nation might have an opposing opinion to them. Their faces will be plastered on television for anyone to see and for anyone to judge them. This will stress out an already uncomfortable jury. Alternatively, another result could be the jury being swayed by the public to select a certain decision instead of their own. As a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The media will catch fire over these felonies causing many people to talk and spread the news making it seem like there is an epidemic of crimes even though the police reported crime rate in Canada has been decreasing for over 2 decades. However, since the news stations and media will be broadcasting to the public about all these scandals and modify some of the facts to make it more entertaining , many people will believe it and think there are many criminal acts committed in Canada than there really are. Nazi s Persecution Of The Handicapped Essay Nazi s Persecution of the Handicapped Frank Cai History November 8th Holocaust is considered one of the worst man caused disaster ever in the history of human life. Hundreds of millions of people died during the Holocaust. Even worse, the victim of the Holocaust is based on race. Why did Adolf Hitler pick on the Jews? Because when he wants to rise power, one of the most common ways is propaganda. He said that Jews are the ones that ruined their country. Many Jews were killed; they were also different kinds of people: just like Jehovah s Witnesses, Roma Gypsies, Handicapped and many others. While the soldiers were fighting at the front line, hundreds of thousands of disabled were killed. Why were the handicapped killed, what s wrong with them? During the time of the war, everything was scarce, the food, the ammo, and many other resources. And a bunch of other works that they need to do with the use of human resources. Germany is a small country, with not many workers, and most people that are strong enough were in the army and went to war. They need enough worker to provide them with the enough resources that they need. Any people that are in Germany and are not strong enough (except for children) to work are killed. Only the gold and silver flowed now, not from the coffers of the king, but from the purses of men who had made, say a fortune from industry, and returned, in their wills, a bounteous share of it to endow more chairs, more lectureships, more fellowships in the university where they had learnt their craft (754). This is a quote from Virginia s Woolf s essay, A Room of One s Own . Here she is making a point about universities and the funding that they received from men that had gone to school there. (AS90811) Explain how human activity in a biophysical environment has consequences for a sustainable future (4 Credits) By Ryan Neill Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park was formally established in 1953 and was recognised as a World Heritage site in 1986. Approximately 333,340 people visit each year, 30% of whom are New Zealanders. 60% of all visitors are day trippers. Biophysical environment definition = The biophysical environment is the biotic and abiotic surrounding of an organism or population, and consequently includes the factors that have an influence in their survival, development and evolution Task 1 Ecological Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park is in the South Island of New Zealand near the town of Twizel. Aoraki/Mount Cook, New Zealand s highest mountain and Aoraki/Mount Cook village lies within the park. The area was gazetted as a national park in October 1953 and consists of reserves that were established as early as 1887 to protect the area s significant vegetation and landscape. The park covers a little over 700 km2. Glaciers cover 40% of the park area, notably the Tasman Glacier on the slopes of Aoraki/Mt Cook. The mountains in the national park get higher at a rate of 5 10 mm per year. It s estimated that approximately 25 km of uplift has occurred overtime, however the rate of uplift has been countered by glacial erosion of rivers, glaciers and landslides. In this written work he stated that the ultimate source of moral judgement was feelings. Additionally, he states that an individual s moral thinking was influenced by reason. • 12. The Necklace Essay Guy de Maupassant s The Necklace is a short story about a middle class girl Mathilde, who loses her friend s costly necklace and spends a decade paying for its replacement. The Necklace represents the story of a standard young lady who loves her husband, despite her desires to be an affluent person. However, readers fail to notice that Madame Loisel s love for Monsieur Loisel vanishes upon their marriage and her materialistic personalities continue to increase. The Necklace is influencing other stories because of its elegance and love, but people will never understand the melancholy and negative reality of this narrative. Therefore, in the short story The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, the protagonist Mathilde is portrayed as a dissatisfied, begrudging, and calumniating character through her perspective of her average life, her actions toward her friend Madame Forestier, and her husband Monsieur Loisel. To show that Mathilde is dissatisfied with her ordinary life, the author mentions She grieved over the shabbiness of her apartment, the dinginess of the walls, the worn out appearance of the chairs, the ugliness of the draperies (Maupassant 198). Both alveoli and capillaries have walls which are only one cell thick and allow gases to diffuse across them. The same happens with Carbon Dioxide. Pivitol events in Vietnamese history such as the Battle of Bach Dang in 939 and the Battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954 are examples of how the conflict theory brought change to Vietnamese society and culture. The first occuring between 1859 1862 by occupying Saigon and surrounding areas in Mekong. In 1883 they annexed the Hanoi and Tonkin regions. In the early years of French rule, French administrators planned to change Vietnam socially, politically and economically. No respect was given to the Vietnamese people or their culture. Court officials ( called manderines ) were forced to report to colonial officials instead of the king, diminishing much of the kings power and role in society. High costs of colonial administrators caused the French to put high taxes on salt, opium, alcohol and land. Forced labour was also re introduced. French rule had left the Vietnamese people and their culture impoverished and very much opressed. By 1940 half of Vietnamese s population was landless. • 15. Comparing Attentional Capture By Rare And Constant, Novel,... Attentional Capture by Rare and Constant, Novel, Sudden Onset Stimuli Samuel Tong (450472150) ABSTRACT Novel and rare sudden onset stimuli are known to attract attention in different situations. Previously Yantis Jonides (1990) have shown novel sudden onsets capture attention mainly when attention is diffuse, and Neo Chua (2006) have shown rare sudden onsets capture attention so long as attention is not already pre deployed to a stationary target. The current study aims to examine the interaction between rarity of a novel, sudden onset and attention pre deployment by cues or stationary targets, and how this interaction affects the attentional capture of novel sudden onsets. In doing so, a better understanding of how these stimuli affect attentional processes may be established. Based upon the experimental findings, it is proposed that when a sudden onset stimulus is both rare and novel, the attentional capture processes when perceiving these stimuli are influenced by perceptual load and modes of attention. Implications of these findings are discussed further in the paper. Attentional Capture by Rare and Constant Novel Sudden Onset Stimuli Attentional capture is controlled by top down, goal orientated processes, or by bottom up, stimulus orientated processes (Wolfe, 1994, as cited by Emerson Kramer, 1997). Part 1 Siddhartha, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and Oedipus the King, while seemingly being very different stories, all have similar ideas about truth and meaning, knowledge versus wisdom, and the impact of oneself internally, which all culminate into the realization of value within oneself. To find the truth it has been said that one has to look within. It is within those parameters that Siddhartha, Phaedrus, and Oedipus found what they searched so longingly for. As for Oedipus, there is no exact quote available to support the ideas of truth and meaning, however the development of his learning throughout the story, and the moral of the story to be learned provide the evidence to support the existence of truth and meaning within the story. Oedipus learns what he desires to know about Thebes and why it was crumbling only by discovering his own history. And through that he learned why they must endure the trials and tribulations that were brought about by the gods. So while these characters developed how to come up with the truth, they still did not know how to apply it, which leads to the battle between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge, just knowing the facts, versus wisdom, having experienced the facts firsthand, are two very different ideas. Knowledge itself is able to be taught, thanks to instructors. During this time, Leon Trotsky and Vladimir Lenin were instrumental in causing the grand collapse of the Russian government and the reformation into a communist state. The Russian revolution changed the world when it happened and I believe it changed the people of Europe after it occurred. The Russian Revolution actually has two important parts to it the February Revolution (March 1917) and the October Revolution (November 1917). The February Revolution, which took place in modern day St. Petersburg, was lethal to the royal government of Russia. It began with the bread, it was not like they did not have the supplies for the population, the problem was the breakdown of the transport system (Figes 68). The February Revolution was also largely caused by the ineffectiveness of the Russian military in World War One and the failure of the Russian empire throughout the last couple decades. The people of Russia were ashamed of the military throwing away their lives and having to eat sparingly to survive the winter. Peasants were so poor they could barely afford a piece of bread for a week. Mass demonstrations were held in the squares and violence took to the streets. People ambushed the royal guards in front of the palace and they were shot down by the insignificant force left to guard the capital. In Scripture there are many families which could be studied in order to better answer this question, but some of the most prominent choices are Abraham s family, David s family, and Solomon s family. Each of these families in turn had their own sets of issues and problems, but there are also Biblical solutions to these problems which shall be address through the course of this paper. But, before this is done it is important to take note of what God s definitions are. To begin, I will start by explaining what my understanding of marriage and family relationships according to scripture are supposed to look like. Now, throughout both the Old Testament and New Testament many commandments are given to both children and parents. For instance, one of the most obvious commands given to children was, Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you, (Ex. 20:12, New International Version (NIV)). To honor someone means to treat him or her with respect and put them in a place of high esteem. Honor and respect means a child should not speak back to their parents, they should not curse out their parents in any way, and in general they should respect their parents wishes. But, going further than this Colossians 3:20 says, Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord, (Col. 3:20, NIV). Children ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Approaches And Practices Of Language Teaching Essay The Approaches and Practices in Language Teaching Communicative Practices in Language Teaching What is communicative language teaching (CLT)? Brown (2014, p. 236) offered the following four interrelated characteristics as the definitions of CLT: 1. CLT helps students develop the four competences instead of merely focusing on their linguistic competence or grammatical competence 2. CLT enables learners to use the language for meaningful purposes in authentic situations. Learning language forms are not the aim of the approach, but to enable them to engage in authentic interactions 3. Fluency and accuracy activities complement each other as is seen in the underlying communicative techniques. 4. Students are expected to use the language naturally and in unrehearsed contexts It s important to engage students in doing some communicative practices. Richard (2006) explained that communicative practices are those activities that focus on exchanging real information and using language in an authentic context, thus the communication is based on the specific situation and not predictable. Communicative language teaching has been proven to be effective in improving students communicative abilities and other language skills. Richards and Rodgers (2001) also wrote that an important goal of communicative language teaching is to help students improve their communicative competence and other language skills. With his retellings of the tales of King Arthur based on earlier models of the stories, most notably the works of Sir Thomas Malory, Tennyson represents some of the most common Victorian cultural views. Women are essentially meant to serve men in this society which is a contrast to Malory s Arthurian society in which men of the chivalric code were expected to be in service to women. It is important to note the way in which the Malorian world places such high value on knights providing service to women (Ackerman 8) which seems to give women some power, but actually made women analogous to a prize or a pawn in many respects and failed to give the female characters any active role in the story. The main distinction of Tennyson s version seems to be the agency he gives his female characters, but that doesn t necessarily mean women were represented and treated fairly in the poems. So, the two societies seem similar in some respects yet the main difference between them lies in the agency given to female characters and the amount of importance placed on different cultural ideals. The way that they changed by 1450 C.E. was that they expanded southward and westward. By 1450, these trade routes went all the way through West Africa, sub Saharan Africa, and the Indian Ocean. One factor that was unchanged during this time period was that the northern coast of Africa was always involved in the trade between Africa and the rest of Eurasia. The trade networks between African and Eurasia remained very important during this time period by means of the trade networks contributions to the Afro Eurasian world. The ebb and flow of trade between Africa and Eurasia during the period 300 to 1450 C.E really reflects the struggles and fortunes of the three dominant religions in the area; Christianity, Buddhism and an upstart known as Islam. Although Christianity and Buddhism were well established by this time, the growth of Islam was a catalyst to many of the changes about to occur, such as new trade partners. Christianity and Buddhism were continuities, whereas a new religion called Islam was an example of change. In 622 C.E., Islam was founded which helped flourish trade. People have retransformed from an independent thinking public into a mass society manipulated by commanders of unequaled powers. Sociologist C. Wright Mills carefully documented this phenomenon in his book entitled The Power Elite , opening the debate with a meaningful sentence: The powers of ordinary men are circumscribed by the everyday worlds in which they live, yet even in these rounds of job, family and neighborhood they often seem driven by forces they can neither understand nor govern . What does Power Elite mean? The Power Elite is a critical study of the American power structure, in which Mills argued that a single elite (the ruler) decides for the nation as a whole, leaving minor decisions for the middle level person to handle and almost nothing for the common ones (the ruled). Two years later, his Davies son died in a hunting accident on the Isle of Wight. Sarah, the eldest daughter, and her husband Captain Allaway lived at the castle after his death, until disaster struck once more and the Captain also died a few years later.
