Essay on Legalize Performance Enhancing Drugs
Legalize Performance Enhancing Drugs in Sports
The most commonly discussed issue in sports of the 21st century is the use of performance enhancing
drugs by professional athletes. Over the past four years, it has been nearly impossible to turn on the
television without hearing something about athletes and these drugs. From former National League
MVP Third Baseman Ken Caminiti s admission of steroid use in an issue of Sports Illustrated
(Verducci, 2004) to 2006 Tour de France Champion Floyd Landis being stripped of title due to a failed
doping test (Blue, 2006) virtually every sport is involved. Are performance enhancing drugs a
substance that threatens the very existence of professional sports, or are they the future? Perhaps the
issue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is it even reasonable to think that we could test athletes for changes in their actual DNA?
In the days when steroids were only being used by body builders and professional wrestlers, stories
about performance enhancing drugs could only be found on the back pages of the newspapers. When
former Oakland Raiders All Pro Lyle Alzado admitted to steroid use in a 1991 Sports Illustrated article
the whispers about what professional athletes were using steroids began to get louder. (Puma, 2005)
Finally, in 2002, when Caminiti, a former MVP, came clean, two things were clear; athletes in all
sports were using these drugs, and that they worked. The fact that steroid use had permeated our
national pastime combined with the media explosion of the internet and 24 hour a day sports talk
created a perfect storm which created the biggest sports story of the new millennium so far. However,
two other facts remained clear, performance enhancing drugs were old news, and athletes in all sports
from all over the world had been using them for years.

Roger Chillingworth And Multiple Evil Figures In The...
Novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne, in The Scarlet Letter, recounts the events of an adulteress living in a
Puritan community, who is forced to submit to public shaming and the vengeful actions of her
husband. Hawthorne elaborates on the underlying idea that Roger Chillingworth is maleficent, which
works towards the overall purpose that evil temptation ultimately causes negative outcomes. Through
the utilization of Biblical allusions, Hawthorne conveys the similarities between Chillingworth and
multiple evil figures. He uses the parallel structure of juxtaposition to show the differing relationship
between Chillingworth s desired and actual character. The continuation of his ongoing argument is
seen through the ominous language that Hawthorne ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to the devil, Chillingworth shows a sense of excitement, of the discovery of a new sinner,
because he is now able to torture the person for eternity, rather than forgive their sins similar to a
perceived holy figure. Hawthorne embodies that Chillingworth is accepting these evil feelings due to
his emotions, which show a sense of commitment and attachment. Through the expression of
Chillingworth s emotions and his separation from innocence, Hawthorne emphasizes that the evil
within Chillingworth causes him to desire morally wrong actions, which leads to his personal
obsession towards the temptation to act upon evil. Hawthorne purposely juxtaposes Chillingworth s
self portrayed helpful manner with the reality of his dark intentions in order to reveal the change of his
character. Through Chillingworth s expression of his calm, meditative, scholar like manner, he
disguises himself as an intellect, specifically a doctor, who personally gains comfort from helping
Reverend Dimmesdale (Hawthorne 112). Hawthorne portrays a change that takes place as
Chillingworth carries out his scheme for revenge by revealing something ugly and evil in his face,
which they had not previously noticed , showing a contradiction between Chillingworth s outermost
appearance (Hawthorne 112). This suggests that Hawthorne begins to emphasize the separation

The Effects Of Military Involvement On U.s.
Introduction
Since the need has been established to justly acknowledge the requisite to take into account
preparations and responses to hazards and the correlational effects, the realization of governmental
assistance became apparent. Due to the ever demanding scenarios, and the requirement of specialized
skill and personnel, the United States Military would ultimately play a role during such occurrences
on United States soil. Although there are Federal, State, and local authorities whom have a primary
purpose of planning for such events, the need of additional assistance during certain situations is
inevitable.
Until certain pieces of legislation were formed, the authorized scope of military involvement on U.S.
soil in a post disaster area was somewhat obscure. Situations as such created issues regarding
personnel, equipment, regulation, and the ever present issue of monetary cost and reimbursement.
Once FEMA was legally formed into a federal entity, these issues could be more accurately accounted
for with such pieces of legislation and regulations as the Stafford Act, the Immediate Response
Authority, Defense Support to Civil Authorities, and although put into law decades before the
previously noted, the Posse Comitatus Act. All of these alterations were tested out in the field,
ultimately showing several complications and alterations that were necessary to respond and recover
in a more effective manner.
Although controversy exists, generally Military assistance comes

Cultural Issues In American Intervention
When considering interventions, it is important for the behavior analysts to determine the best
intervention for the client and the families. The behavior analysts have a wide variety of issues to
consider when they wanting to promote an intervention to the families, such as cultural issues.
According to, the culture is the belief and goals that a large group of people have, and that it is
important to understand the families when it comes to the cultural views and to meet the needs of the
families with the best intervention plan that is best for the client. These are seen from generation to
generation. In other words, the professional has to take into consideration that every culture does have
disabilities or autism; they may be seen it in a different light than the professional. For example, in

It is important to note that culture intertwine with intervention strategies. Culture are may have a vital
role in the intervention strategies. For example, Indian parents were more likely to notice social issues
with the client more than Americans (). Another important aspect to examine when thinking about
culture and intervention is the way symptoms are interpreted. According to, Pacific islanders and
African Americans are less likely to agree with symptoms as disorders than Caucasian Americans, and

There are two main strains of rice. Indica grains are long and thin and are fluffy when cooked. These
are more popular in northern
Europe. Japonica grains, popular in southern Europe, are shorter, more absorbent, and creamier when
cooked. Spain and Italy have increased their production of Indica rice, which has led to a decrease in
European rice imports.
There are three primary use categories for the rice industry: processed food production (such as
breakfast cereals), beer production, and direct food use. Branding of rice in the direct food use
category is important because most of the rice purchased in this category is consumed at home after
being purchased from food retailers. Direct food use rice can be subdivided into four primary rice
types: white, parboiled, brown, and precooked. White rice is the most popular retail rice in production
and is the result of the final milling process, which can be refined to varying degrees. The second most
popular retail rice is parboiled white rice. It is prepared through many steps including a special
milling, steam cooking, and drying process (there are over 40 steps in Gallo s parboiled rice process).
Brown rice is milled similarly to white rice, but the bran layer is retained on the rice kernel during the
milling process. In response to consumer demands for convenience, precooked rice is

Gov t Regulation in Private Sector
July 30, 2007
What are the key reasons for Government regulation of the private sector? In an economy there are
two sectors, the public and private. The private sector, by definition, is the part of a nation s economy
that isn t controlled by the government.(Investorwords). Several business organizations make up the
private sector with the three basic ones being sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations.
Most are for profit and part of that profit goes to the government in the form of taxes. The private
sector can be referred to as a market. Markets operate by themselves and allocate resources efficiently,
but they re not perfect. Government regulation of the private sector is justified under two
circumstances: when flaws ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fairness, a moral consideration, would be a reason for why a natural monopoly would be regulated.
For developing countries, their developmental objectives such as growth are very important. Natural
monopolies like electricity or telecommunications are crucial to a nation s infrastructure. Would an
unregulated private monopoly make the proper investments necessary to offer the good or service to
everyone today and in their country s needs overt time. If mishandled, an unregulated private
monopoly could easily slow the grow of a developing country.
Why do we need antitrust laws? The antitrust law prohibits non competitive behavior and unfair
business practices. The term antitrust was originally formulated to combat business trusts , now more
commonly known as cartels. A distinction between single firm and muti firm conduct is fundamental
to the structure of the U.S. antitrust law which Philop Areeda has pointed out, contains a basic
distinction between concerted and independent action. (Areeda) Some activities are subject to more
investigation, such as price fixing, bid rigging, geographic market allocation, and fraud. Consumer
protection laws are a part of the antitrust laws. They attempt to regulate some aspects of the
relationship between consumers and businesses. Antitrust laws are further seen in agreements of trade,
monopolization and attempted monopolization, anticompetitive mergers, and in tie in schemes.
Anticompetitive behavior are typical

This system was designed to capitalize on randomization and mobility while providing a modular
build design. The initial design and goal of the project was to develop a product that would increase
the effectiveness and the efficiency of current market technology to reduce damage to crops by
reducing habituation. Secondly, the objective of this project was to develop the prototype and
protocols into a useful system that can be scaled up for application at the end users level of skill.
Considering the target audience of farmers, who may not have a high level of understanding of
electrical and computer components, each component was designed to be easily set up and operated.
The ability of an average person to set up and configure the GPS system and the potential object
recognitions navigation system, which would make the robot fully and accurately autonomous, may be
a barrier. The use of in depth tutorials and visual aids may help some. However this may provide an
opportunity for developing a niche job market for qualified service representatives and field techs.

Great Recession And The Great Depression
GREAT ECONOMIC TIMES IN AMERICA
The Great Recession and the Great Depression are the fallout of the exact same economic problems
and are only different in a few respects. Each period is marked by a massive run ups in asset prices
followed by a crash in the stock market and sent both debt and equity markets down. These periods
are said to be the worse economic downturn in the country s history. During the great depression, as
banks failed and threatened to shut down the financial system altogether, President Franklin Roosevelt
moved quickly and effectively to address the most dangerous financial crisis of the Great depression.
The massive stock market collapse that began in October 1929 erased massive amounts of wealth and
because many banks had invested heavily in the markets, and had lent recklessly to speculative
investors, the banks found themselves without sufficient capital and in many cases without reserves.
He created the New Deal which responded to an unemployment rate that had reached 25 percent, and
in some cities as much as 75 percent. He signed the Emergency Banking Act, which allowed
inspectors to evaluate troubled banks and decide whether or not they could reopen. The Glass Steagall
Act created a barrier between commercial and investment banking and established the Federal Deposit
Insurance Corporation, which guaranteed that citizens would not lose their bank deposits even if a
bank failed.

Old Time New York City
When people ask me what time century I wish I could live in, it would be the 1950s. Old time New
York. I love everything about the old style, with the retro feel to it. Now we are in the 21st century,
2016 to be exact and we are sadly far away from those years. I mention this because when I think of
the 1950s, I imagine the big signs with the huge letters in the Broadway font, located in New York
City. People traveled to New York to live the American dream, to own a home and be married and
have lovely children. People also traveled to New York City to make something of themselves. To
make themselves worth something. The city gave them this thrive that if they had a person who
believed in them and money, they could do anything imagined. Old time New York is what I miss and
what I love about the past. But, it is these people who really built up New York City to make it what it
is today. I really appreciate New York for all the history it holds.

The Cultural Influences Of Cuba Essay
Cuba is one of the best places to visit. Because they have so many things to do. like going to the beach
and swimming and picking up hot Cuban girls. The food in Cuba is really also really healthy. The
foods are a blend of Native American Taino food, Spanish, African, and Caribbean cuisines. Some
Cuban recipes share spices and techniques with Spanish and African cooking, with some Caribbean
influence in spice and flavor. This results in a unique, interesting and flavorful blend of the several
different cultural influences, with strong similarities with the cuisine of the neighboring Dominican
Republic and Puerto Rico. As a result of the colonization of Cuba by Spain, one of the main influences
on the cuisine is from Spain. Along with Spain, other culinary influences include Africa, from the
Africans that were brought to Cuba as slaves, and French, from the French colonists that came to Cuba
from Haiti. A typical meal would consist of rice and beans, cooked together or apart. Dolphinarium,
Kayo Naranjo is one of the best things to do in Cuba, like visit dolphins to play with them and swim.
Cuba is a good play to have family time because there are so many monuments and sites to see with
your family for good memories
Cuba is a country under communist rule, is known for its white sand beaches, rolling mountains,
cigars and rum. Its colorful capital, Havana, features well preserved Spanish colonial architecture, Old
Havana, loomed over by the pre revolutionary Capitola.

Similarities Between Slavery And Indentured Servants
The institutions of slavery and being an indentured servant is different yet similar. Slavery was set up
in a way that you were born into it and the only way out was death. Slavery was a system set up that
you will be enslaved for life while indentured servitude had an agreement. The agreement was that
you work like a slave for three to seven years then you would be given freedom as well as land. When
you were a slave and an indentured servant the treatment you endured was unbearable. They would
beat them for any reasons they felt necessary. These could include not picking enough cotton, not
responding when spoken too, or even talking back to your master. Many slaves and indentured
servants would die due to this treatment as well as other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the indentured servants ran away or if the women got pregnant then their time could get increased.
The masters would take them to court to see that this happened. Women that were slaves or indentured
servants received the worse treatment because they were looked upon as weaker therefore they
received more abuse including sexual abuse. When masters felt like they could not use the slaves and
indentured servants they were sold. Indentured servants and slaves were not allowed to get married.
African slaves increased because indentured servants were not good for planters needs and the whites
wanted a way to control the outstanding number of African Americans around them. Slavery was
based on the African American race and being black made them inferior to all other humans which
made slavery a hereditary condition in the world. Slaves were the key commodity of exchange. They
were sold as security for debts, for food, war, captives, military recruits, and agricultural laborers.
However, the main difference was that slaves worked with no end date, they would hope and pray that
they got out of being enslaved, but few got out alive. Although it was possible for some to escape,
some were free due to Christian baptism, and others purchased their freedom from

How Does Wuthering Heights Change Throughout The Novel
In many books, the settings and characters often relate to each other. Wuthering Heights by Emily
Brontë exemplifies this concept perfectly in the way the houses compare to the main characters.
Wuthering Heights is the story of love and revenge between its characters. In Brontë s Wuthering
Heights, settings are reflected in the temperaments of these main characters: Heathcliff, Edgar Linton,
and Catherine Earnshaw.
First, in the novel Wuthering Heights, the character Heathcliff reflects the house Wuthering Heights.
The first way Heathcliff s attributes mirror the features of Wuthering Heights is Heathcliff s incessant
aggressive, bad mood. Wuthering Heights, when seen in the novel, always seems to be having
turbulent weather. Heathcliff s aggression directly compares to the aggression of the weather there.
The second way Heathcliff and Wuthering Heights relate is their resemblance of physical traits.
Heathcliff over time does not age very well. Similarly, the house is not kept up, is always a mess
throughout the book, and is described as rustic looking by Nelly, The apartment and furniture would
have been nothing extraordinary as belonging to a homely, northern farmer with a stubborn
countenance (Brontë 3). The third way that Heathcliff and Wuthering Heights are alike is their low
level in society, so to speak. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In the early 1890s. the former Confederate South began to unravel the works of northern abolitionist

Constitutions and laws that limited or revoked the rights for Black Americans to vote. The 15th

the Constitution, the Fifteenth Amendment clearly states that the Right of citizens of the United States

The Case Of Roe V. Wade
On January 23, 1973, the landmark case Roe v. Wade established a new law that would change women
s rights for years to come. This controversial case made it legal to have an abortion, which made it
safer for women around the country. In 1972, a year before Roe v. Wade, there were approximately
587,000 illegal abortions performed (Roe v. Wade). These abortions were highly dangerous because
they lacked medical equipment and a trained professional. In some instances, the mother could even
die from the procedure. As a feminist, I believe women should have the right to their own body and
therefore I believe the government should keep the decision of Roe v. Wade. In this paper, I will
discuss the court case of Roe v. Wade, personal stories of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the Act does not cover medicine for a safe abortion. Businesses who provide healthcare to
their employees have purposely not included women s reproductive health because of their views on
abortion. If the owner or manager doesn t believe in abortion, they are more likely not to include
women s reproductive health on their health care, even though abortions are not covered in the Act
(Roe v. Wade and its Effects of Society). This means that female workers are not provided with
medical care they need because their manager disagrees with a choice not provided in the Act that
gives women basic health needs. To me, health care should be a right, and not giving it to your
employers because of your views is unconstitutional. If having an abortion is legal, why does the
government not cover it in health acts? Even 37 years later, abortion is still a taboo subject that rears
its ugly head in politics. Before abortions were legalized in 1973, many women put it upon themselves
to get rid of an unwanted pregnancy. Any illegal abortion performed was a dangerous decision made
by the mother. During the 1950 s an estimated 200,000 abortions took place illegally (The Impact of
Illegal Abortion). There are many health risks with having an illegal abortion including: severe
bleeding, abdominal trauma, rupturing of the uterus, and in some cases, even death. In 1972, a

The Earl Of Rochester And Jonathan Swift
When reading Eighteenth Century literature it is clear that the concept of one s privacy was non
existent, particularly in poetry. Poets of this period were more aware of the growing public readership
they had as a result of developments in education, and people from each class were now able to access
poetry. This meant what was published had a greater impact on society, as poetry became increasingly
[...] a more public form of expression (Goring, P. p.64) for writer s opinions on political and private
matters. The Earl of Rochester and Jonathan Swift both portrayed the private world to this public
audience in their poetry, but through the use of satire. The issues they wrote about were so intimate
that it was essential for them to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An imperfect picture is created of Rochester s private world compared to his public life, and the
negative effects the early Eighteenth Century libertarian lifestyle has had on him. His demeaning
language and its comparison with an ideal scenario create the satire that is needed to bring Rochester s
private world into the public world.
Swift on the other hand is trying to expose the private world of a lady s dressing room, something new
to society at the time, and he does this through satirically comparing the public and private versions of
women. Tita Chico argues in Privacy and Speculation in Eighteenth Century Britain that there were
[...] exclusive privileges associated with the privacy of the gentleman s closet (p.42) which were now
seen as being threatened by women s dressing rooms. There was a feeling of fear about what women
might get up to in private and Swift exposes a satirised reality in his poem which [...] links women s
privacy with illegitimacy through grotesque images of the female body (p. 41). Throughout Eighteenth
Century literature, the use of a dressing room represented women as [...] theatrical and excessive

EUROZONE CRISIS: Eurozone fracture in 2012
This paper outlines a plausible scenario in which the Eurozone fractures in 2012. Events are unlikely
to follow the path precisely as described, given the complexity of the problem and the number of
variables which are continually changing. That said, we feel 2012 is unlikely to end with all the
current members still being part of the Eurozone. Mapping a break up scenario should help readers
understand how fragmentation could occur and therefore assist businesses contingency planning. To

In the second quarter, Italy suspends its debt repayments following the collapse of the Monti

The ECB is likely to increase liquidity provision and work with Eurozone governments to protect their

the contagion from Greek and Italian sovereign non payments. Portugal and Spain, unable to access
emergency bailout funding and with no recourse to private investors, suspend their debt repayments
and also announce their intention to leave the Eurozone.
From early 2013 onwards, politics in Europe becomes more polarised and nationalistic. Those nations
withdrawing from the Eurozone impose protectionist measures, in part to limit the loss of their foreign
reserves. Amidst much acrimony, the EU begins the process of scaling back to a free trade agreement.

Public Health Vs. Federal Law
PUBLIC HEALTH GOVERNENCE (STATE Vs. FEDERAL)
For a long time, mandatory immunizations on populations have been debatable with respect to public
health law in the United States. One argued topic is whether the level of authority to administer such
mandates resides at the federal or state or state level. An analysis of the United States Constitution
provides some clarity. The role of the Federal Government is somewhat limited with regards to public
health, and its role marks a clear distinction from state and local authority over health matters. The
Commerce Clause, within Article I of the United States Constitution, gives federal jurisdiction over
certain public health issues. It states that Congress shall have the power to regulate commerce with
foreign nationals, and among the several states. (CITE CONSTITUTION). This limited authority
allows federal agencies to introduce and administer regulations to prevent the spread of communicable
diseases from foreign countries and between the states, as in quarantine. However, no mandatory
vaccination programs or regulations regarding the implementation of a mandatory vaccination
program exist at this level. (CITE SWENDIMAN p.7). The 10th Amendment of the United States
Constitution provides the authority by which states draft and implement public health policy and
effort. It states, The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it
to the States, are reserved to the States

Charley s Analysis
In contrast to the Thunder Bay area in Canada, Duluth obtained rail service a decade prior to Charley s
trek, which initiated a flurry of economic activity. However the Panic of 1873 and the ensuing
economic depression reversed many of the initial gains. Nevertheless, by the time Charley reached the
fledgling city, it stood at the threshold of another surge in population, industry, and wealth.14 The
family s oral history speculates that Charley followed the St. Croix River south from Duluth to

Wisconsin to reach the source of the river. Charley probably used the railroad, either as a passenger or

Chapter 6 The Pls System Essay
In chapter 6 section 1 it talks about the creation of the PLS system. As a new nation was created there
had to be a system put in place in order to keep from arguments erupting over land, this system was
created by a committee led by Thomas Jefferson in 1784. This system although having some
weaknesses is still used today to divide land. There are two main systems used in the United States
these are the metes and bounds and the GLO system.
6.2 This section describes that no survey is final until all paperwork is completed and approved by the
government. If there is a problem found in a survey then the most recent survey should be used to
correct this problem. If the same problem is found in the most recent survey then the original survey

Many may consider that the exploration of the television distribution systems is not related to
traditional IT components. However, many elements of the traditional television distribution facility
are changing to using IT components, and the identification and analysis methods use a similar
analysis approach. This paper s content will concentrate on the issue of exploring how to move the
network to an alternative distribution location.
Problem Statement
The Fox network transmits over satellite communication infrastructure, and terrestrial fiber networks
36 linear television programing services from its Los Angeles facility. Additionally, the facility
provides about 100 Internet provided linear and non linear television services. These services only
provide programming to the United States audience. Other global transmission facilities provide the
programming services for the remaining global countries of the world. The Los Angeles facility uses a
highly integrated automation system to manage the expense of providing the services.
Computerized data, such as television material, is critical to the survival of the enterprise (Omar,

operations (Omar, Alijani, Mason, 2011). Fox has a strategy for providing an infrastructure for

Different Governmental Strategies For Cancer Survivorship...

different organisations like the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), The American
Cancer Society (ACS), and The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) have released
publications and guidelines, and events related to cancer survivorship care. The Institute of Medicine
(IOM) report, From Cancer Patient to Cancer Survivor: Lost in Transition, recommended the main
elements of survivorship care which are prevention, surveillance, health promotion, managing long
term effects and well planned, coordinated care to help cancer patients progress from the acute
treatment phase to life after cancer (Hewitt, Greenfield et al., 2006). Recently, the ACS and the ASCO
updated their guidelines of breast cancer survivorship care, addressing the follow up, prevention and
monitoring (Runowicz, Leach et al., 2016). According to their guidelines, it is recommended that the
patient should receive physical examination every 3 to 6 months for the first 3 years, every 6 12
months for the next 2 years and then annually. Annual Mammography is recommended on the intact
breast for those who have undergone a mastectomy and on both breasts for who did lumpectomy

The Drug Problem Of Addicted With Prescription Drugs
Most researchers believe that addictions are caused by a number of risk factors, working together to
create the addiction that consume and destroy people lives. Most people become addicted with
prescription drugs they are taking; however, there are cases where individuals have used recreational
and prescription drugs without becoming addicts. Once an individual starts using drugs, he/she
becomes physically and emotionally dependent on them. Drug abuse can cause great amount of pain
and suffering depending on each individual and the extent of his or her addiction. The extent of a
person s vulnerability to their addiction depends on their social environment, mental stability, physical
health, and their genes. According to Kellogg Our drug problem is a major problem, which in all
likelihood, stems from poverty, loneliness, shame, dishonesty, rage, family violence, power and greed.
It is a spiritual bankruptcy that eats away at a culture and destroys the core of meaningfulness in
people s lives (Kellogg, 1990, p. xvii). Those who are addicted have rooted all their energy towards
pursuing things that are created; rather than pursuing the Creator. If they have a desire to travel the
road to total recovery, they must first change their mindset to pursue the Creator. All changes in our
lives begins with one simple act, and that is changing our mindset. When those person who are

BrewDog is a company that has gone from strength to strength in its short time since establishment.
The company has been experiencing rapid growth over the past several years. Through extracting the
relevant information from a SWOT analysis on the company, I will look at BrewDog s strengths and
opportunities, leading to analysis of competition, barriers to entry and the threat of substitutes in
proposed future markets. Through this I will show what growth methods are not suitable for the
company, and conclude with my recommendation that simultaneous expansion of the UK and foreign
markets are the most viable growth prospects for the company. I will provide analysis and discussion
to show the validity of this. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1.2 Opportunities
The opportunities for BrewDog are vast and include continuing to expand on its recent trend of
opening BrewDog pubs and bars across the UK, and taking the business global on a larger scale than it
currently is. The company already exports to over 30 countries worldwide (McCulloch, 2013) and
although this is of course proving profitable, the intentions of BrewDog in terms of expansion are
focussed mainly on opening new establishments. The company currently has eleven open bars in
Scotland and England, with a flag ship store in Shoreditch, London. Eleven bars is not a massive
amount, particularly looking at the success of the ones they currently have. Although expansion
abroad is no doubt a high priority, it cannot be ignored that BrewDog bars are not present in Northern
Ireland, although the beers are available there for purchase in other establishments and stores. This is
an opportunity for expansion.
The matter of global expansion of the pubs is one that BrewDog seem very interested in, and
understandably so. As mentioned, BrewDog already exports to around 30 different markets, and as
such has a customer base around the world already. An opportunity for growth is to enter the German
market, where the craft beer market is large,

The Original Riot Grrrls By Elizabeth Cady Stanton
The Original Riot Grrrls The 19th Amendment guarantees a vote for women in the United States of
America, but how did this constitutional change happen? Many females prior to this accomplishment
faced struggles from external forces that denied their rights and capabilities. Feminism and equal
rights were and still are prominent in American society. In order to provide women of the future what
is rightfully theirs, women during the 1700s have taken control of their opinions and used their strong
will to make the necessary changes in American society. During the Seneca Falls Convention,
Elizabeth Cady Stanton exclaimed in her address, The right is ours. The question now is: how shall we
get possession of what rightfully belongs to us, (Stanton). The leaders, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and
Lucretia Mott of the Seneca Falls Convention, along with other female leaders, displayed civil
disobedience, provided powerful lectures, and organized conventions that gave a new perspective on
gender equality.
Women s rights in America have been a major concern ever since the thirteen colonies sought their
independence from Great Britain. Abigail Adams embodied an important role in women s property
and equal education rights. Abigail Adams, was married to John Adams, a founding father and major
contributor to the completion of the Declaration of Independence (United States). As her husband and

Franco Zefferelli s Romeo and Juliet and Baz Luhrmann s...
The astounding perils of young love has been eloquently captured in the story of Romeo and Juliet.
Franco Zefferelli and Baz Luhrmann are the creators of the two most renowned film adaptations of
William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Zefferelli, the more traditional director, created his Oscar
winning version in 1968. Baz Luhrmann put an abstract, modern twist on Shakespeare s classic and
created the 1996 version that raised millions of dollars in box office sales. Being that these two films
are so different, I have chosen to compare them to one another, using the famed balcony scene as my
focus.
In the Franco Zefferelli adaptation, proceeding the extravagant Capulet party, Romeo walks down a

She vocalizes her love and adoration for Romeo, not knowing that every word she speaks falls upon
his ears. Unable to contain his elation about what he has just heard, Romeo leaps from the darkness
below the balcony, abruptly startling Juliet. She retreats towards the doorway of her room, feeling
violated and unsure about Romeo s presence. She appears angry because of their families hatred
towards eachother. The interaction between them is forbidden, so she turns towards the her room,
ready to leave, until she is halted by Romeo s confession. If given the opportunity, he would choose to
deny the Montague name so that he may share his life with her. Surprised, Juliet returns to where
Romeo awaits her.
During this scene, the soft light continually falls upon Juliet s angelic face, yet Romeo predominantly
remains in the darkness, shadowed. This may reference the goodness of the Capulets and the supposed
evilness of the Montagues from Juliet s standpoint. The camera is also pointed up during this scene
when directed towards Juliet, yet pointed down when directed towards Romeo. Zefferelli may have
used these camera angles to show that Juliet is considered someone Romeo admires although he is
considered a lesser man by the Capulet family.
As the scene continues, Juliet explains to Romeo the consequences of them being caught together, and
as she sadly and amorously gazes at him, he hides behind a tree branch to protect himself. Juliet
moves to a dark

Corporate America And The Corruption Within The Hip Hop...
Corporate America and the Corruption within the Hip Hop Culture
Being one of the more controversial lifestyles, the hip hop culture has overcome many obstacles in the
years to gain the respect it currently holds today. Indeed, there is still much controversy that lingers
around the people within the movement, but when untainted by outside influences and corporate
vultures, hip hop in its purest form is about empowerment, unity, culture, creativity, and hope
(Elkouby). The negative notions that regard the hip hop culture can be attributed to corporate America
and its failure to properly monitor radio play, its lack of trust within the record labels, and its greedy
head honchos that build up artists only to see them fall in order to pocket the money for themselves.
A crucial element in the success of many artists is the amount of radio play they receive. Obtaining
playtime has never been easy, and just like many other things that are difficult to obtain, a black
market has developed in order for artists to receive radio play. Payola, in the music industry, is the
illegal practice of payment or other inducement by record companies for the broadcast of recordings
on commercial radio in which the song is presented as being part of the normal day s broadcast and
not the day s sponsored broadcast ( Payola ). Artists benefit from their songs being played on the radio
because their songs can be heard by millions of others, which will in turn build their fan base.

number 10 an essay that wish written by James Madison on November 22 1787. It was a part of a
series of essays proposed my Alexander Hamilton. The Federalist Paper essays were written to dispute
the authorization of the United States Constitution.
In Federalist number 10 Madison recognized that there was many different factions. He says that the
republican government that is put together by the new Constitution will allow all factions to express
themselves and influence their workings of the government by getting all their members elected and
appointed to offices. Madison also indicates that a democratic kind of government using the ideal of
majority rule will tame the factions and cause them to work together. Madison also claims that
minority groups would be protected because the factions will have to negotiate their differences.
According to James Madison this is his definition of faction; By a faction, I understand a number of
citizens, whether amounting to a majority or a minority of the whole, who are united and actuated by
some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adversed to the rights of other citizens, or to the
permanent and aggregate interests of the community.
In order for a faction to become bigger there must be liberty, Liberty helps factions grow. In today s
world factions are political parties or also known as special interest groups. Also in today s world

reasonable amount of time to get back in to see my Doctor to work out a remedy for my condition

medically myself than compromise my ability to best serve my students academically. Furthermore,
the solution put forth would simply not be feasible in my current instructional environment, as I have

Voluntaryly Childless Couples
Be fruitful and multiply, this is the word of the Lord. However, this is now being challenged by some
married couples as there is an increasing rate of married couples choosing to remain childless. The
traditional definition of a family is defined as a man and a woman living together with child /children.
However, a new family type has emerged, such as voluntary childless couples. In this family type the
couple is married and is fully capable of biological reproduction, but have no intention of doing so.
Thus, voluntary childlessness among a married couple exists for a number of reasons: due to
achieving a higher level of educational attainment, so as to pursue a higher standard of living and fear
that children will potentially cause an unhappy marriage. Because of achieving a higher level of
educational attainment, some married couples choose to remain childless. The household childlessness
rate is strongly linked to married couples with high educational level. For example, the Australian
Bureau of Statistics indicated that the proportion of couples aged 45 49 years who were childless
increased with higher level of educational attainment. The statistics highlighted that the highest
proportion of childless married couples were among those with a bachelor degree or higher (20%),
compared with 12% of those with an undergraduate or associate diploma. Couples with no post school
qualifications had the lowest level of childlessness (9%). It is seen that the delaying of child

Johnson Behavioral system Model
According to Johnson nursing research is important explain and identify the behavioral system
disorders which arise in relation with illness, and develop good reasoning for the means of
management. The theory resulting from the Behavioral System Model influences to the researcher to
choose between two options (Octaviano and Balita, 2008). One researcher might examine the

Categories In My Word Cloud
When writing everyday, whether it be writing a caption on a new post, texting a friend, or journaling
everyday, people do not think of their use of words and how it reflects things about them. The word
cloud project takes those words and compiles a list of them that are used most often. I chosed to use
summaries that were written on my phone on days that were eventful and I would like to remember.
The summaries reflect what I did everyday over the summer and what I liked the most from that day.
Categories in my word cloud is summer school, softball, and vacation which show my value in daily
activities. The words school, work, lunch, world, and history are present in my word cloud because the
weekday after school ended summer school started. I took world history which took five weeks of
summer, but I had to go a little out of my comfort zone. There was no world history class at Glendale
High School so I had to go to Cresenta Valley High school which lead me to write about my day when
I was waiting to get picked up. These are the words that I used most often, and these words are
growing in popularity today. I had to do lots of work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This summer I went to Oahu with my brother and dad and created many memorable experiences
which I wrote about. Some things that I did was go to the Dole Plantation, Zip lining, snorkeling, and
lots of swimming. Dole is the only word that has not increased in popularity but has not decreased.
Going to the Dole plantation was very memorable because it was cool to have a Dole Whip from the
actual place where pineapples are grown. These words reflect the most memorable events of my
summer and my value of forminging memories. Society would view these words as things you would
do in summer vacation or some outdoor adventures. Snorkeling is starting to increase in popularity but
swimming has made a big jump in

Theseus In The Maze Runner
The book and recent movie adaptation, The Maze Runner, is strongly related to the life
of Theseus and more specifically the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur in the labyrinth. The
relationship and the similarities are clearly demonstrated through Thomas s character and
personality while comparing him to Theseus. The main characters are not the only aspect of this
series that is influenced by Greek mythology; the animals, or grievers are a representation of
the Minotaur and the challenges they present to the children. Also, simply based on the title, the
setting is another indisputable connection to the myth of the labyrinth.
The plot of the book is where one can notice the most obvious connections to the myth.
For example, the story centers around young boys ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though
discrepancies occur, such as the time spans or the genders of the children, it is undeniable that
this story is almost completely based off of the Greek myth. Some other general plot similarities
include; the minotaur/griever attacks on the children, the heroes voluntary choice to go against
the animals, and the 50/50 body composition of the animals Minotaur is half human and half
animal while the grievers are half animal and half human made machine.
Taking a deeper look at the main character, Thomas, we see many characteristics that
would be considered heroic ones in the Greek and Roman times. The most evident connection
is through their willingness to risk their lives. Although Thomas did not volunteer to go to the
Glade as Theseus had, he did chose to go inside the maze and risk his life there among the
grievers in the hopes of finding an escape. Their bravery connects them in multiple ways,
especially when attempting to prove their self worth. Thomas has to consistently prove himself
to the older members of the Glade, usually involving going into the maze or other

Survive in the Lord of the Flies by William Golding Essay
When humans are pushed to survive, they are willing to do anything to do so. In the novel Lord of the
Flies by William Golding, a group of boys are stranded on an island and have to survive, however as
the story progresses the boys become more barbaric and savage like. Even though there are good
people in this world, there will always be evil. Why does evil exist? Golding s belief of human nature
is that humans are naturally evil and savage. However, law and civility keep humans from turning into
this natural state of evil and Golding uses the development of Jack to show how savagery is created.
Golding uses other characters to show Jack s regression to savagery and one of these characters is
Ralph. Ralph brings out Jack s inner savagery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The setting of the novel takes place on a peaceful, life giving island. However, once the boys came to
the island, the island slowly became consumed in darkness as the boys became more savage like.
Towards the beginning of the novel, Golding emphasizes the light hearted mood by describing the
brightness and beauty of the island, The palms that stood made a green roof, covered on the underside
with a quivering tangle of the reflection from the lagoon. (pg 12). Just like the island, the boys start
out as peaceful boys when they first arrive on the island. However, as the boys became more corrupted
by savagery, so does the island and Golding effectively uses this in the scene where the boys lose
control of themselves and in their bloodlust, kill Simon, The clouds opened and let down the rain like
a waterfall... (pg 153). Golding s use of the setting shows the evil in humans by giving the reader a
mental illustration of the progression of the island turning from paradise to despair, much like how
Jack starts out as a normal boy, but progresses into savagery. The conch is one of the most important
symbols in the novel because it represents civility on the island and without civility, the whole island
would fall into chaos. Golding uses the conch to show what would happen to humans if law and order
were removed from humanity. Rules and order are the only things that are keeping the boys from
falling into savagery. Jack is one of the first

The Impact Of Social Behaviors On Human Behavior
Introduction Group behaviour, also known as gregarious behaviour, occurs in a wide variety of
animals including, but not limited to, invertebrates (Ritz, 1994), fish (Shaw, 1970), birds (Lack, 1968),
wildebeests (Gueron and Levin, 1993), lions (Bertram, 1975), and primates (Nakagawa, 1990).
Benefits of group living include improved reproductive success, increased foraging success, and
improved predation survival (Hamilton, 1971; Reluga and Viscido, 2005). Social behaviours evolve
when the benefits of group living outweigh the costs (Fleagle, 2013). Predation risk is lowered in
social groups by confusing the predator so the predator s success decreases (Hall et al., 1986; Smith
and Warburton, 1992), by providing improved vigilance more ... Show more content on

Group living in animals can be an act of selfish behavior, one of the reasons being the reduced risk of
predation (Morrell and James, 2008). Species that show this behaviour include sticklebacks (Krause
and Tegeder, 1994), banded killifish (Hoare et al., 2004), toad tadpoles (Watt et al., 1997; Spieler and
Linsenmair, 1999) and ocean skaters (Foster and Treherne, 1981). By keeping close to others and
forming a group, an animal can benefit from collective vigilance, predator confusion, and the dilution
risk, all which reduce the chance of predation to that individual (Morrell and James, 2008; Krause and
Ruxton, 2002). Selfish herd theory The selfish herd theory was developed by Hamilton and is widely
excepted as a explanation for the selfish grouping of animals (Morrell and James, 2008). The Selfish
herd theory states that individuals within a population attempt to reduce their predation risk by putting
other individuals between themselves and predators resulting in groups of animals (Hamilton, 1971).
Hamilton s proposed theory contrasted the hypothesis that evolution of such social behaviour was
based on mutual benefits to the population (Hamilton, 1971). An animal may join a group for its own
selfish reasons, seeking to push the risk of being a victim of predation onto other members (Breed and
Moore, 2011). In groups, predation risk is greatest on the outside edge and lower towards the

  • 2. Essay on Legalize Performance Enhancing Drugs Legalize Performance Enhancing Drugs in Sports The most commonly discussed issue in sports of the 21st century is the use of performance enhancing drugs by professional athletes. Over the past four years, it has been nearly impossible to turn on the television without hearing something about athletes and these drugs. From former National League MVP Third Baseman Ken Caminiti s admission of steroid use in an issue of Sports Illustrated (Verducci, 2004) to 2006 Tour de France Champion Floyd Landis being stripped of title due to a failed doping test (Blue, 2006) virtually every sport is involved. Are performance enhancing drugs a substance that threatens the very existence of professional sports, or are they the future? Perhaps the issue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Is it even reasonable to think that we could test athletes for changes in their actual DNA? In the days when steroids were only being used by body builders and professional wrestlers, stories about performance enhancing drugs could only be found on the back pages of the newspapers. When former Oakland Raiders All Pro Lyle Alzado admitted to steroid use in a 1991 Sports Illustrated article the whispers about what professional athletes were using steroids began to get louder. (Puma, 2005) Finally, in 2002, when Caminiti, a former MVP, came clean, two things were clear; athletes in all sports were using these drugs, and that they worked. The fact that steroid use had permeated our national pastime combined with the media explosion of the internet and 24 hour a day sports talk created a perfect storm which created the biggest sports story of the new millennium so far. However, two other facts remained clear, performance enhancing drugs were old news, and athletes in all sports from all over the world had been using them for years. Sergo Chakhoyan is an Australian Weightlifter, Josep Guardiola is a Spanish Soccer Player, and Janne Immonen is a Finnish Cross Country Skier, but they all have one thing in common. • 3. Roger Chillingworth And Multiple Evil Figures In The... Novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne, in The Scarlet Letter, recounts the events of an adulteress living in a Puritan community, who is forced to submit to public shaming and the vengeful actions of her husband. Hawthorne elaborates on the underlying idea that Roger Chillingworth is maleficent, which works towards the overall purpose that evil temptation ultimately causes negative outcomes. Through the utilization of Biblical allusions, Hawthorne conveys the similarities between Chillingworth and multiple evil figures. He uses the parallel structure of juxtaposition to show the differing relationship between Chillingworth s desired and actual character. The continuation of his ongoing argument is seen through the ominous language that Hawthorne ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similar to the devil, Chillingworth shows a sense of excitement, of the discovery of a new sinner, because he is now able to torture the person for eternity, rather than forgive their sins similar to a perceived holy figure. Hawthorne embodies that Chillingworth is accepting these evil feelings due to his emotions, which show a sense of commitment and attachment. Through the expression of Chillingworth s emotions and his separation from innocence, Hawthorne emphasizes that the evil within Chillingworth causes him to desire morally wrong actions, which leads to his personal obsession towards the temptation to act upon evil. Hawthorne purposely juxtaposes Chillingworth s self portrayed helpful manner with the reality of his dark intentions in order to reveal the change of his character. Through Chillingworth s expression of his calm, meditative, scholar like manner, he disguises himself as an intellect, specifically a doctor, who personally gains comfort from helping Reverend Dimmesdale (Hawthorne 112). Hawthorne portrays a change that takes place as Chillingworth carries out his scheme for revenge by revealing something ugly and evil in his face, which they had not previously noticed , showing a contradiction between Chillingworth s outermost appearance (Hawthorne 112). This suggests that Hawthorne begins to emphasize the separation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction Since the need has been established to justly acknowledge the requisite to take into account preparations and responses to hazards and the correlational effects, the realization of governmental assistance became apparent. Due to the ever demanding scenarios, and the requirement of specialized skill and personnel, the United States Military would ultimately play a role during such occurrences on United States soil. Although there are Federal, State, and local authorities whom have a primary purpose of planning for such events, the need of additional assistance during certain situations is inevitable. Until certain pieces of legislation were formed, the authorized scope of military involvement on U.S. soil in a post disaster area was somewhat obscure. Situations as such created issues regarding personnel, equipment, regulation, and the ever present issue of monetary cost and reimbursement. Once FEMA was legally formed into a federal entity, these issues could be more accurately accounted for with such pieces of legislation and regulations as the Stafford Act, the Immediate Response Authority, Defense Support to Civil Authorities, and although put into law decades before the previously noted, the Posse Comitatus Act. All of these alterations were tested out in the field, ultimately showing several complications and alterations that were necessary to respond and recover in a more effective manner. Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë exemplifies this concept perfectly in the way the houses compare to the main characters. Wuthering Heights is the story of love and revenge between its characters. In Brontë s Wuthering Heights, settings are reflected in the temperaments of these main characters: Heathcliff, Edgar Linton, and Catherine Earnshaw. First, in the novel Wuthering Heights, the character Heathcliff reflects the house Wuthering Heights. The first way Heathcliff s attributes mirror the features of Wuthering Heights is Heathcliff s incessant aggressive, bad mood. Wuthering Heights, when seen in the novel, always seems to be having turbulent weather. Heathcliff s aggression directly compares to the aggression of the weather there. The second way Heathcliff and Wuthering Heights relate is their resemblance of physical traits. Heathcliff over time does not age very well. Similarly, the house is not kept up, is always a mess throughout the book, and is described as rustic looking by Nelly, The apartment and furniture would have been nothing extraordinary as belonging to a homely, northern farmer with a stubborn countenance (Brontë 3). • 22. The Case Of Roe V. Wade On January 23, 1973, the landmark case Roe v. Wade established a new law that would change women s rights for years to come. This controversial case made it legal to have an abortion, which made it safer for women around the country. In 1972, a year before Roe v. Wade, there were approximately 587,000 illegal abortions performed (Roe v. Wade). These abortions were highly dangerous because they lacked medical equipment and a trained professional. In some instances, the mother could even die from the procedure. As a feminist, I believe women should have the right to their own body and therefore I believe the government should keep the decision of Roe v. Wade. Businesses who provide healthcare to their employees have purposely not included women s reproductive health because of their views on abortion. If the owner or manager doesn t believe in abortion, they are more likely not to include women s reproductive health on their health care, even though abortions are not covered in the Act (Roe v. Wade and its Effects of Society). This means that female workers are not provided with medical care they need because their manager disagrees with a choice not provided in the Act that gives women basic health needs. To me, health care should be a right, and not giving it to your employers because of your views is unconstitutional. If having an abortion is legal, why does the government not cover it in health acts? Even 37 years later, abortion is still a taboo subject that rears its ugly head in politics. Before abortions were legalized in 1973, many women put it upon themselves to get rid of an unwanted pregnancy. Any illegal abortion performed was a dangerous decision made by the mother. During the 1950 s an estimated 200,000 abortions took place illegally (The Impact of Illegal Abortion). There are many health risks with having an illegal abortion including: severe bleeding, abdominal trauma, rupturing of the uterus, and in some cases, even death. In 1972, a ... Poets of this period were more aware of the growing public readership they had as a result of developments in education, and people from each class were now able to access poetry. This meant what was published had a greater impact on society, as poetry became increasingly [...] a more public form of expression (Goring, P. p.64) for writer s opinions on political and private matters. • 26. Public Health Vs. Federal Law PUBLIC HEALTH GOVERNENCE (STATE Vs. FEDERAL) For a long time, mandatory immunizations on populations have been debatable with respect to public health law in the United States. One argued topic is whether the level of authority to administer such mandates resides at the federal or state or state level. An analysis of the United States Constitution provides some clarity. The role of the Federal Government is somewhat limited with regards to public health, and its role marks a clear distinction from state and local authority over health matters. The Commerce Clause, within Article I of the United States Constitution, gives federal jurisdiction over certain public health issues. It states that Congress shall have the power to regulate commerce with foreign nationals, and among the several states. (CITE CONSTITUTION). This limited authority allows federal agencies to introduce and administer regulations to prevent the spread of communicable diseases from foreign countries and between the states, as in quarantine. However, no mandatory vaccination programs or regulations regarding the implementation of a mandatory vaccination program exist at this level. (CITE SWENDIMAN p.7). In the US, different organisations like the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), The American Cancer Society (ACS), and The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) have released publications and guidelines, and events related to cancer survivorship care. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) report, From Cancer Patient to Cancer Survivor: Lost in Transition, recommended the main elements of survivorship care which are prevention, surveillance, health promotion, managing long term effects and well planned, coordinated care to help cancer patients progress from the acute treatment phase to life after cancer (Hewitt, Greenfield et al., 2006). Many females prior to this accomplishment faced struggles from external forces that denied their rights and capabilities. Feminism and equal rights were and still are prominent in American society. In order to provide women of the future what is rightfully theirs, women during the 1700s have taken control of their opinions and used their strong will to make the necessary changes in American society. During the Seneca Falls Convention, Elizabeth Cady Stanton exclaimed in her address, The right is ours. The question now is: how shall we get possession of what rightfully belongs to us, (Stanton). The leaders, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott of the Seneca Falls Convention, along with other female leaders, displayed civil disobedience, provided powerful lectures, and organized conventions that gave a new perspective on gender equality. Corporate America and the Corruption within the Hip Hop Culture Being one of the more controversial lifestyles, the hip hop culture has overcome many obstacles in the years to gain the respect it currently holds today. Indeed, there is still much controversy that lingers around the people within the movement, but when untainted by outside influences and corporate vultures, hip hop in its purest form is about empowerment, unity, culture, creativity, and hope (Elkouby). The negative notions that regard the hip hop culture can be attributed to corporate America and its failure to properly monitor radio play, its lack of trust within the record labels, and its greedy head honchos that build up artists only to see them fall in order to pocket the money for themselves. A crucial element in the success of many artists is the amount of radio play they receive. However, this is now being challenged by some married couples as there is an increasing rate of married couples choosing to remain childless. The traditional definition of a family is defined as a man and a woman living together with child /children. However, a new family type has emerged, such as voluntary childless couples. In this family type the couple is married and is fully capable of biological reproduction, but have no intention of doing so. Thus, voluntary childlessness among a married couple exists for a number of reasons: due to achieving a higher level of educational attainment, so as to pursue a higher standard of living and fear that children will potentially cause an unhappy marriage. Because of achieving a higher level of educational attainment, some married couples choose to remain childless. The household childlessness rate is strongly linked to married couples with high educational level. For example, the Australian Bureau of Statistics indicated that the proportion of couples aged 45 49 years who were childless increased with higher level of educational attainment. The statistics highlighted that the highest proportion of childless married couples were among those with a bachelor degree or higher (20%), compared with 12% of those with an undergraduate or associate diploma. The summaries reflect what I did everyday over the summer and what I liked the most from that day. Categories in my word cloud is summer school, softball, and vacation which show my value in daily activities. The words school, work, lunch, world, and history are present in my word cloud because the weekday after school ended summer school started. I took world history which took five weeks of summer, but I had to go a little out of my comfort zone. There was no world history class at Glendale High School so I had to go to Cresenta Valley High school which lead me to write about my day when I was waiting to get picked up. These are the words that I used most often, and these words are growing in popularity today. I had to do lots of work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 45. Theseus In The Maze Runner The book and recent movie adaptation, The Maze Runner, is strongly related to the life of Theseus and more specifically the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur in the labyrinth. The relationship and the similarities are clearly demonstrated through Thomas s character and personality while comparing him to Theseus. The main characters are not the only aspect of this series that is influenced by Greek mythology; the animals, or grievers are a representation of the Minotaur and the challenges they present to the children. Also, simply based on the title, the setting is another indisputable connection to the myth of the labyrinth. The plot of the book is where one can notice the most obvious connections to the myth. For example, the story centers around young boys ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though discrepancies occur, such as the time spans or the genders of the children, it is undeniable that this story is almost completely based off of the Greek myth. Some other general plot similarities include; the minotaur/griever attacks on the children, the heroes voluntary choice to go against the animals, and the 50/50 body composition of the animals Minotaur is half human and half animal while the grievers are half animal and half human made machine. Taking a deeper look at the main character, Thomas, we see many characteristics that would be considered heroic ones in the Greek and Roman times. The most evident connection is through their willingness to risk their lives. Although Thomas did not volunteer to go to the Glade as Theseus had, he did chose to go inside the maze and risk his life there among the grievers in the hopes of finding an escape. Their bravery connects them in multiple ways,

  • 47. Survive in the Lord of the Flies by William Golding Essay When humans are pushed to survive, they are willing to do anything to do so. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of boys are stranded on an island and have to survive, however as the story progresses the boys become more barbaric and savage like. Even though there are good people in this world, there will always be evil. Why does evil exist? Golding s belief of human nature is that humans are naturally evil and savage. However, law and civility keep humans from turning into this natural state of evil and Golding uses the development of Jack to show how savagery is created. Golding uses other characters to show Jack s regression to savagery and one of these characters is Ralph. Ralph brings out Jack s inner savagery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The setting of the novel takes place on a peaceful, life giving island. However, once the boys came to the island, the island slowly became consumed in darkness as the boys became more savage like. Towards the beginning of the novel, Golding emphasizes the light hearted mood by describing the brightness and beauty of the island, The palms that stood made a green roof, covered on the underside with a quivering tangle of the reflection from the lagoon. (pg 12). Just like the island, the boys start out as peaceful boys when they first arrive on the island. However, as the boys became more corrupted by savagery, so does the island and Golding effectively uses this in the scene where the boys lose control of themselves and in their bloodlust, kill Simon, The clouds opened and let down the rain like a waterfall... (pg 153). Golding s use of the setting shows the evil in humans by giving the reader a mental illustration of the progression of the island turning from paradise to despair, much like how Jack starts out as a normal boy, but progresses into savagery. The conch is one of the most important symbols in the novel because it represents civility on the island and without civility, the whole island would fall into chaos. Golding uses the conch to show what would happen to humans if law and order were removed from humanity. Rules and order are the only things that are keeping the boys from falling into savagery. Jack is one of the first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Impact Of Social Behaviors On Human Behavior Introduction Group behaviour, also known as gregarious behaviour, occurs in a wide variety of animals including, but not limited to, invertebrates (Ritz, 1994), fish (Shaw, 1970), birds (Lack, 1968), wildebeests (Gueron and Levin, 1993), lions (Bertram, 1975), and primates (Nakagawa, 1990). Benefits of group living include improved reproductive success, increased foraging success, and improved predation survival (Hamilton, 1971; Reluga and Viscido, 2005). Social behaviours evolve when the benefits of group living outweigh the costs (Fleagle, 2013). Predation risk is lowered in social groups by confusing the predator so the predator s success decreases (Hall et al., 1986; Smith and Warburton, 1992), by providing improved vigilance more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Group living in animals can be an act of selfish behavior, one of the reasons being the reduced risk of predation (Morrell and James, 2008). Species that show this behaviour include sticklebacks (Krause and Tegeder, 1994), banded killifish (Hoare et al., 2004), toad tadpoles (Watt et al., 1997; Spieler and Linsenmair, 1999) and ocean skaters (Foster and Treherne, 1981). By keeping close to others and forming a group, an animal can benefit from collective vigilance, predator confusion, and the dilution risk, all which reduce the chance of predation to that individual (Morrell and James, 2008; Krause and Ruxton, 2002). Selfish herd theory The selfish herd theory was developed by Hamilton and is widely excepted as a explanation for the selfish grouping of animals (Morrell and James, 2008). The Selfish herd theory states that individuals within a population attempt to reduce their predation risk by putting other individuals between themselves and predators resulting in groups of animals (Hamilton, 1971). Hamilton s proposed theory contrasted the hypothesis that evolution of such social behaviour was based on mutual benefits to the population (Hamilton, 1971). An animal may join a group for its own selfish reasons, seeking to push the risk of being a victim of predation onto other members (Breed and Moore, 2011). In groups, predation risk is greatest on the outside edge and lower towards the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
