Compassion Fatigue Analysis Paper
. This exploratory study used a cross sectional survey method (Hopper, Craig, Janvir, Wetsel, Reimels,
Anderson, Greenvilee Clemson, 2010, p. 422). Compassion satisfaction and fatigue subscales were
measured using the Professional Quality of Life, using ProQOL R IV instrument (Hopper, et al. 2010,
p. 423). Despite study limitations which were small sample size, authors concluded that recognising
the signs and symptoms, and identifying best practice interventions and raising awareness, will lead to
the development of ongoing support programs for hospital nurses (Hopper, et al., 2010, p. 427).
Longitudinal data was collected to determine the efficacy of resilience program at three and six month
intervals (Potter et al., 2013). The longitudinal data in the study reported statistically significant results
of decreased overall compassion fatigue through implementation of a compassion fatigue intervention
program (Potter et al., 2013). A pilot study of a compassion fatigue resiliency program with thirteen
oncology nurses showed promising results. The program interventions were ... Show more content on

physical and emotional health consequences for nurses who provide hospice and palliative care over
extended periods of time. Further research is needed into the extent of the problem, specific causes,

Analysis Of The Letter To His Father
Franz Kafka wrote this Letter to his Father in November 1919, but it was never delivered. After
writing the letter by hand, he got it typed, and it is not known whether he wanted the contents of the
letter to reach the public eye at the time of writing or not. When Kafka asked his friend Max Brod to
destroy his writings at his death, and Max Brod s refusal to do so brought them to the world, this letter
too was part of what he received, which was eventually published in its entirety in 1953. The Letter to
his Father is a multi generic exercise in that it couples autobiography with the form of the letter, and
relies on the strategies of the family chronicle to present perspectives on both the speaker and the
subject through an ironic, critical lens. This letter is also one of the most accessible documentary that
we have on Kafka himself, whose self scrutiny and analysis off his own situation as a son offers us
insights into the way he saw his growth as an individual in circumstance that he considered difficult.
As a literary example, on the other hand, the latter makes use of several conventions such as first
person narratorial voice (for the impression of authenticity), anecdote (for historical
contextualization), and flashback (for reference). At the same time, the letter is a long document with a
focussed subject where the addressee (his father) is as much the occasion for the writing, as he is the
protagonist whose and mode of functioning form part of what Kafka deals

Hester Prynne and Roger Chillingworth in Puritan Society...
Believed by many writers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, society corrupts and conforms the
individual, and it is the individual who breaks from consistency and conformity that is most free.
Hester Prynne, a woman punished for adultery, is isolated by herself and her community, but breaks
free from strict Puritan society. Roger Chillingworth, the husband of Hester, isolates himself which
leads to the destruction of himself and the community. Hester Prynne and Roger Chillingworth
experience different types of isolation, and while Hester chooses to transcend Puritan laws and live a
purposeful life regardless of how it affects her, Chillingworth decides to become infatuated with the
sin of Arthur Dimmesdale and live in revenge outside of Puritan ... Show more content on

The puritan mindset affected how Hester and Chillingworth viewed there isolation. Hester Prynne s
isolation, though primarily inflicted by the community, was also inflicted by herself, and in her
isolation, Hester became an integral community member at the cost of her femininity and passion.
Hester is primarily isolated by her community as she is forced to wear the scarlet letter for the rest of
her life to separate her as an adulteress. This was common practice for colony members in Plymouth
in 1694 though typically a whipping or death was the punishment (Hawthorne 220). The isolation
caused by her community is not destructive to herself, and in a way, is beneficial for her soul. Using
her needlework as an outlet for her creativity, Hester provided clothes for the poor, embroidered
clothing, and earned back her reputation. Not only would the A come to mean Able, but it also gave
herself a sense of belonging. According to Jennifer McClinton Temple, such isolation leaves that
person nothing but he or she s mind and therefore inspiring creativity (McClinton Temple). Being left
to her own faculties, Hester was able to think freely and apart from typical Puritan ideas. According to
Hawthorne, for a Puritan, and a woman no less, to have broken free from Puritan conformity would
have held to be a deadlier crime than that stigmatized by the scarlet letter in the eyes of the Puritan
magistrates (Hawthorne

Religious Conflicts In Reuven s The Chosen
In The Chosen _____ discusses many topics around Judaism; some of these topics include: core
beliefs of the religion, covenant, choosiness, holidays, assimilation and many other concepts. One of
the main things I learned when reading this novel was the differences amongst the Judaism spectrum
of religion and how this can create different conflicts or tensions among the people. Among these
conflicts the concept of what to do with the holy land has very different perspectives among Reuven s
Reform Judaism and Danny Hasidic Judaism.
Reform Judaism focuses on, change and growth, scientific inquiry, critical evaluation and is looked at
as one of the most modern branches of Judaism (Cowling, 274). Reuven was brought up in this branch
of Judaism. His father states in The Chosen that, Some Jews say we should wait for God to send the
Messiah! We cannot wait for God! We must make our own Messiah. We must rebuild American
Jewry! And Palestine must become a Jewish homeland! (196 197). What he is expressing through this
quote is that if people want to see a change in the earth that they were going to have to do it
themselves. In no way was he trying to bypass God, but expressing that this is how change happens.
Through this quote he is also expressing how he wants a dual ... Show more content on

This form of Judaism is known as the Ultra Orthodox side of Judaism (Cowling, 275). They are
known to live in isolation from the world, and have a strict commitment to the Torah in everyday life
(Cowling, 275). Danny was raised in this kind of Judaism and was next in line to take his fathers
place. Red Saunders Danny s father states, The land of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob should be built by
Jewish goyim, by contaminated men? [...] Never! Not while I live! (Potok, 197). He believes that if
man rebuilds Judaism like Reuven s father wants that the wrath of God will come down and the

Personal Evaluation Of An Individual
Overall success begins with understanding your own tendencies in a large arrangement of categories.
Teamwork is simply a group of individuals bring their own personal styles together with the goal of
building a single cohesive idea, which could easily be derailed by conflicting personalities and
hardheadedness. The future prosperity of an organization depends on the success in the individuals
and teamwork. On an individual level, it is necessary to look at general personality, motivation,
decision making, values, and attitude. Strong tendencies in any of those parts can dictate how
someone may act in a group setting and understanding the differences can allow people to be more
tolerant to conflicting styles of work. By having an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

but I had a particular life milestone by which I wanted to finish. I worked tirelessly and was
determined to make my goal; ultimately I graduated in three semesters and four months early of my
goal. However, in the process I was a difficult person to be around because all my mind could
concentrate on was making my goal. The surprising part of this assessment was that I was unaware
that there was a label such as Type A+, which I placed in strongly. For the Type A+ group, a score of
120 or above is needed and I scored a 150. The analysis included with the assessment explained the
personality type very well. One point in particular was when it mentioned obsessed with numbers,
which is uncannily me. When talking to people, I always feel the desire to define occasions or plans in
time since or time left. Another assessment that stood out to me about my personality, though it did
not have surprising results, was the one titled What s My Jungian 16 Type Personality? My results
were returned with a score of INFJ. The recommended possible careers that are associated with that
score include: human resources manager (which is my major), psychologist (which is my minor),
teacher (which is something I hope to do in the future), and novelist (which is a hobby of mine). I
enjoy helping people in their career and life.

Introduction
The 2006 Census Public Use Microdata File (PUMF) involved a total of 844,476 people. Participants
were randomly selected in a manner that represented all social characteristics that existed among
Canadians. Technically, it was estimated that the number represented only 2.7% of the Canadian
population. It is also on record that the 2006 PUMF involved a total of 123 population variables, of
which 83% (102) represented individual variables, while the remaining 17% (21) of all variables used
represented family, dwelling, and household variables. The purpose of this research is to determine
how the cost of shelters and age distribution affects the Aboriginal people of Canada in relation to the
2006 Census Public Use Microdata File (PUMF) on individuals. The research employs both age
distribution and shelter cost as major variables affecting the Aboriginal population. The research will
conduct an inferential statistical analysis on three major variables: Aboriginal population, shelter cost,
and age. For the purpose of this research, both age and shelter costs will be employed as independent
variables relating to the overall Aboriginal population, which is the dependent variable. Another
question that the paper aims to research is whether there exists a relationship

The Present Day College Admission Marketplace
The present day college admission marketplace in the United States is part of an extensive historical
evolution. In the 1920s, broadened public interest and the burgeoning of the credit industry led to the
first waves of democratization in the higher education arena (Kimball, 2011). The subsequent
professionalization and a growing pattern of stratification in the admissions marketplace have seen
institutions of all types using increasingly sophisticated mechanisms to attract qualified applicants
(Duffy and Goldberg, 1998). With the release of the first U.S. News World Report rankings in 1983
(Morse, 2008), public perception of college admission significantly shifted and colleges began to
adopt widespread enrollment management ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the exception of the eligibility based model which champions entitlement and open access , the
other three models are selective in nature in that students are compared against one another on the
basis of certain criteria before an admissions decision is made. The most common and basic
philosophy adopted by institutions is the performance based model, which judges applicants based on
their demonstrated performance prior to college. This model is advanced through two approaches,
meritocracy and character. The meritocracy approach views acceptance into an institution as a reward
for prior academic achievement, while the character approach focuses on personal qualities such as
resilience and civic virtue (the College Board, 2002). In addition, many colleges also assess students
based on their ability to benefit from higher education. The two approaches under this theme include
the enhancement approach and the mobilization approach. The former is intended to identify and
nurture talent while the latter promotes social and economic mobility (the College Board, 2002).
These approaches attempt to contextualize previous accomplishments in light of the student s
circumstances and accord value to unrealized potential. The final philosophical model evaluates
students based on their ability to contribute to the institution and society if admitted, both in the short
run and long run. In the short run,

“Girl” Barbie Doll
In the past, women were always considered the subordinate gender that was expected to powder their
nose and stay at home to be a homemaker. Even now, despite the movement to liberate women from
stereotypical gender roles, women are still seen as the inferior gender that is discriminated against in
society. As suggested by the popular Barbie doll created by Mattel, the idealized image of a woman in
our patriarchal society is one who takes care of the home and is flawlessly beautiful with perfect skin,
long legs, small waist, and slender figure. The Barbie doll is used as a tool for patriarchy in that it
reinforces the notion that women should be domestic workers and maintain a feminine outer
appearance. Also, patriarchal values affect girls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that this notion of femininity is so deeply rooted in our society, affects women in a negative
way, pressuring them to attain an unrealistic body image and a feminine outer appearance. Ultimately,
this notion that is associated with women leads them to feel inferior and weaker compared to men.
As young girls grow up surrounded by the perfect image of the Barbie doll, they begin not only to feel
pressured to obtain an idealized body image, but also to believe that it is the norm for women to be
domestic workers. The accessories sold with the Barbie doll illuminate the implication that women
should be domestic workers. For example, the Kitchen Barbie doll comes fully equipped with pots,
cooking utensils, apron, oven mitts, and baked goods. She comes packaged in a mini kitchen with an
oven, refrigerator, and sink. As young girls play with this doll, they build a positive and fun
association with working in the kitchen, and this encourages them to do the same in the future. In
addition, the accessories sold with the Babysitter Barbie doll also suggest that women should be
domestic workers. The accessories sold with this doll include a television set, DVD, stuffed animal
doll, and Kelly. Barbie is responsible of taking care of Kelly, and this reinforces the notion that
women should fulfill the domestic role of housewife and mother. As young girls grow up surrounded
by these dolls, they

The Interlopers Analysis
Your entire life is made up of two things, your luck and your decisions.
While some may say the character s in the short stories The Necklace , The Rights To The Streets Of
Memphis , and The Interlopers are affected by their own luck. The characters always made their own
decisions. The characters were put at a metaphorical cross road , they caused the events leading up to
the outcome of their own fate, and each character had the right to make their own decisions.
Madame Loisel from The Necklace allowed for her greed to overthrow her which winded down into a
sense of irony when she loses a valuable necklace borrowed from a friend.

should be friends and allow their conflicts to be resolved. Together they made the decision to be
friends instead of enemies.
In conclusion, all of the characters in the stories The Necklace , The Rights To The Streets Of
Memphis , and The Interlopers all have decided their fate by their actions and decisions whether they
be good or bad. In The Necklace madame Loisel chose to allow her greed to consume her. In The
Rights To The Streets Of Memphis Richard Wright has to make the decision to conquer his fears.
Lastly, in The Interlopers The two men had to decide to come together as friends to make life easier.

The Importance Of Pyrite Recovery From Gangue
Gangue is one of the largest accumulating solid, and is particularly rich in pyrite. Therefore, pyrite
recovery from gangue is not only significant for the environmental protection, but also for the
development and production of chemicals. The dry separation methods, leading to the decreased waste
and cost effectiveness, have received significant attention of many scholars. In this study, the vibration
energy was introduced to promote the separation of particles. The interactions and effect of
comparison of the gas velocity, vibration intensity, and bed height were investigated. Moreover, the
sulfur migration for pyrite recovery from the gangue has been studied by several analytical techniques.
The results show that the segregation efficiency was directly related to the interaction between various
factors. After the separation, the sulfur content of the concentrates of 6+3, 3+1, and 1+0.5 mm was
37.94, 35.43, and 30.61%, respectively. The sulfur segregation s standard deviation (SSSD) was 0.70,
achieving a satisfactory separation efficiency, indicating that pyrite was the foremost material in the
concentrate, and S and Fe migrated in the form of pyrite during the separation process, indicating that
pyrite could be effectively enriched by the dry method of vibration fluidized bed after the separation.

The United States Fiscal Year 2016 Is From October 1, 2015,
The United States fiscal year 2016 is from October 1, 2015, to September 30, 2016. The requested
budget was submitted to the 114th Congress. Congress creates a new budget for the United States
every year. This process is also called the appropriation process. These bills specify how much money
will go to the different government agencies and government programs. Congress will then have to
pass legislation that will provide the federal government the authority to spend the money giving to
them.
There are five key steps in the budgeting process

The money for the budget comes from income taxes, payroll taxes, and corporate income. These are
the three main sources of the budget s revenue. Income taxes are that the government collects from the
American people. Income taxes make up the federal government s largest revenue source. Payroll
taxes are designated as trust funds. As trust funds, the money collect can only be used for a very
specific purpose such as Social Security. Corporate taxes are paid by companies, though a marginal
tax rate anywhere from fifteen percent to thirdly five percent depending on how much profit the
corporation made. There are also a couple of other types of taxes that add to the revenue such as
excise taxes and miscellaneous taxes. In 2016, individual income tax made up forty nine percent,
which is up five percent from 2015. Payroll taxes made up thirty three percent, which was also up five
percent from the following year. This was due to the growth in people wages and salaries. Corporate
taxes made up nine percent, which fell thirteen percent from the following year. Excise taxes made up
three percent and miscellaneous taxes rounded the budget at seven percent. The total revenues for the
government in 2016 were $2.99 trillion dollars.
So, where does the money go? Below I will just highlight some of the bigger areas of where the
money goes.

There are ancient accounts about the history of a small kingdom along the Yellow River that existed

An Outsider In Shakespeare s Othello
In Shakespeare s Othello, Othello s character is very out of place in Venice, however Othello is able to
overcome his differences with his talent as a leader and speaker. Many of the other characters are
racist towards Othello because he is an outsider. Othello s character overcomes the prejudice of
Venetian society because he possesses the qualities of a quintessential speaker and leader. From the
beginning of the play, it is clear that Othello is faced with challenge of proving himself to his racist
counterparts. It is clear that Othello is an outsider when the characters talk down to him without even
saying his name. He is referred to as the Moor (I.i.57), thick lips (I.i.66), and Barbary horse (I.i.113).
The racial names that are used show his character is an outsider, and not your typical Venetian. The
racial differences create an atmosphere that Othello s character would not be able to thrive in if he was
not so strong willed, and eloquent. Even though Othello is an outsider, he is very valuable as a ...

Child Rearing Dbq
Child rearing from the 16th to the 18th century changed because the child death rate went up during
this time period. This caused parents to distance themselves from their children until they grew into
adulthood because they just did not know if they were going to survive. Adults did not want to invest
that much time and get to emotionally attached to something that was going to die. These distancing
views caused adults attitudes towards children to change, they began to have such views as severely
disciplining children, wet nursing, and that kids were taught evil or taught to be bad. During this time
adults began to severely discipline their children, they did this in several different ways, by degrading

People before this time period thought that children were born evil, and that they automatically were
just as evil as they were going to be when they were older when they were born. However, a change

at birth, that they were only taught to be evil by the people or events around them. That since children
have yet to experience bad things happening in their life, they know nothing of anything bad. Also
another idea came up during this time that was basically if one teaches their children how to love, and
how to love their parents, and if the parents show the children that they are worthy of that love, they
will respect and obey their parents better. Sir George Savile in 1628 wrote you must begin early to

Opponents of this issue argued that the possibility of a tweet to go viral might lead to mistrials and
contempt citations ( Reporters live tweeting from court risks mistrials , 2011). This is likely to happen
when journalists cross the line of reporting as they attempt to fit as many information as possible
within a short time frame and limited number of characters.
Considering the focus of this debate, it appears that one of the most important aspects of tweeting
from courtroom is the lack of editorial oversight. (Tweeting from courtrooms, 2012). Although this
situation might benefits the public through the lack of censorship, it has its fair share of shortcomings
too.
An example of the disadvantage of the lack of editorial oversight occurs when disturbing contents,
such as graphic evidence from a crime scene, are presented in the courtroom. Once content is
published on the Internet, it is often difficult to remove it the Internet. With the difficulty to decide on
appropriateness in a matter of seconds, tweeting from courts without editorial oversight might cause
some problems (Tweeting from courtrooms, 2012). For instance, journalists might accidentally tweet
something based on their opinion or prejudice rather than the fact, due to the fact that they have to
type their observation in real time. If this prejudice affects the public opinion, it might harm the trial

Things To Know About Having The LASIK Procedure Later In Life
Now that you re older, you probably have more time and money to do things for yourself. If you re
tired of wearing glasses or contacts and have always wanted to have LASIK surgery, now might be the
time to do it. However, as you age, your eyes undergo many changes. Therefore, LASIK might not be
a good option any longer, or if it is, your doctor may need to take other factors into consideration.
Here are some things to consider.
Cataract Treatment
It s common for people to develop cataracts as they age. Cataracts can cause blurry vision, and LASIK
surgery cannot correct this. Your eye doctor checks for the development of cataracts during your
yearly eye exams. If they grow large ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you still have vision problems after surgery, your doctor may follow up with a LASIK procedure
after your eyes have healed.
Presbyopia
Presbyopia is another common eye problem associated with aging eyes. With this condition, it gets
harder and harder for you to see things up close. Reading glasses help because they magnify near
vision. However, you don t wear them all the time because you can t see things far away with them on.
That s why bifocals are usually the treatment of choice for presbyopia if you have to wear glasses all
the time. That way you can see far away and up close too.
Another option to bifocals is monovision. You can wear monovision contacts so one eye sees far away
and the other sees up close. This same theory can be applied to the LASIK procedure. When you have
presbyopia, the eye surgeon will probably adjust the vision in one eye so you can read up close and
adjust the other eye for clear far vision. Your brain adjusts so you can see clearly both ways. It s a
good idea to try monovision contacts before you have the LASIK procedure to make sure you can
tolerate it before having an irreversible surgery done on your

The Causal Effects Of Oil On Regional Conflict
Introduction
Oil, although a natural resource should be seen as a harmless, plentiful substance, in the modern world
it is now considered a symbol of wealth; which in my view is representative of political and economic
power. Countries that have oil reserves, or who can exploit oil ownership are often seen and
acknowledged of the most powerful nations in the world. China, Russia, and the United States of
America all have vast reserves of oil and are widely considered to be the top three Super Powers as
they are categorized as being .
I consider oil to be a primary cause of conflicts globally, for example the hostilities in the Niger Delta.
It is a common thought that oil and conflict go hand in hand wherever found. The purpose of this ...

Their leader, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari, wanted greater control of the natural resources within the
Delta, and to have a national conference to renegotiate Nigeria s federal constitution. Many activists
have wanted these negotiations to be held for years, but Asari is willing to use force to get these talks,
and that is where he varies from many of these other political activists. Asari has links to organised
crime within the region. The protests in this region have been described as being akin to American
gangland fighting for the control of drug trade . [4]
These attacks on the oil companies are serious enough for the government to reward the violence by
holding discussions with these warlords. The reason for this is that the country is a petro state. This
means that the country s economy relies heavily on oil revenue, about 50 per cent of the GDP, 95 per
cent foreign exchange earnings and 80 per cent of its budgetary revenues. This came about after the
civil war, beforehand Nigeria was a relatively small producer of oil, but after it became a global
producer of oil, 5th biggest producer in the group OPEC. Because of this civil war, oil companies such
a Shell have had to form close partnerships with the Nigerian government, and indeed military
dictatorships in order to exploit the abundance of oil in the country. Very little money from the oil
production has gone into the communities where the oil is

The Khmer Rouge During The 20th Century
Cambodia has been significantly affected by the ongoing communism and the rule of the Khmer
Rouge during the 20th century. Referred to as The Khmer Rouge regime, Cambodian genocide, Year
Zero and the Cambodian Holocaust, the rule of the Communist Party of Kampuchea from 1975 1979
has had a devastating impact on Cambodia and the country s condition in the 21st century. Led by Pol
Pot, the beliefs and objectives of the Khmer Rouge has resulted in Cambodia s loss of culture and
identity, the deaths of approximately 4 million people resulting in generation loss and a brain drain
and has affected how Cambodia is in today s society.
The views and objectives of the Communist Party of Kampuchea was the catalyst in creating the
Khmer Rouge, and as a result, caused the destruction of Cambodia. The party s belief in communism
and equality conflicted with the views of the then party in ruling. This prompted the Communist party
to take over on April 14, 1975, with the view of creating a society where no one was exploited and
everyone was equal. Journalist, Elizabeth Becker reports about the new national anthem, which
showcases the patriotism of the Party. ...We are uniting to edify splendid and democratic new
Kampuchea and new society with equality and justice... This reflects their views and shows their new
found strength in their successful takeover. This view also prompted the Khmer Rouge to abolish
inequality through the removal of western influences such money, schooling, private

Gender Based Differences in the Workforce
1. Introduction
With regard to the International Labour Organization (ILO), labour market participation is influenced
by different factors. Relatively high unemployment rates on a worldwide scale leads to countries
introducing specific methods in order to increase participation rates, which in turn stimulates
economic growth. One of the main focuses is to attract more females into the working world.
Nonetheless, since institutional and sociological forces, as well as labour market forces still persist,
high variations on female decision making processes of whether to enter the labour market or not can
be observed.
The following essay will undertake a deep analysis of gender based differences. It will be examined
how participation rates of women are influenced and to what extent they have improved. Furthermore,
current development trends in terms of migration and labour mobility of youth and adults will be
critically analysed. In order to achieve an extensive understanding of this discussion, the situation of
the European Union (EU) as well as other countries will be taken into account with regard to the time
period 1990 until the present.

Standardized Testing A Student s Achievements
Standardized testing is a series of nationwide tests that is supposed to show a students achievements
throughout the year. For example, the SAT is a nationwide test that Juniors in high school have to take
to apply to colleges. Unless your SAT scores are between 1000 to 1600 most will not look at your
application. The real question is if standardized testing is an effective way to test a student s
achievements? Standardized tests are an ineffective way to measure a students intelligence and
academic achievements accordingly these tests should be changed or they should be no more.

important basic skills that all students need to master. According to a study in the Oct. 28, 2005, issue
of the peer reviewed Education Policy Analysis Archives, teachers in four Minnesota school districts
said standardized testing had a positive impact, improving the quality of the curriculum while raising
student achievement. The thing about standardized testing is that most parents approve of these tests.
Associated Press NORC Center for Public Affairs Research conducted a poll to see how parents felt
about standardized testing. The poll found that 75% of parents say standardized tests are a solid
measure of their children s abilities and 69% say the tests are a good measure of the schools quality.

The Effects Of Water On Natural Water Essay
Water is one of the most important resources that earth can offer. Indeed, water is essential to the
survival of all living things. Pure water must be colorless, tasteless and odorless. However, sometimes,
natural water can contain impurities. Indeed, dissolved solute coming minerals in rocks and soils are
often present in natural water.
The cations Mg2+and Ca2+ are the most common dissolved compounds found in natural water. The
presence of the dissolved Cations Ca2+ and Mg2+ (and other polyvalent cations) gives natural waters
chemical properties that are often evaluated as hardness.1 Water is hard when it contains a high
concentration of cations Ca2+ and Mg2+ and it is considered soft when it contains a low concentration
of cations Ca2+ and Mg2+. Water Hardness is often measured in Concentrations in Molarity (M),
parts per million (ppm/ mg per L) and grain per gallon (gpg).
The degree of hardness standard as established by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (S
339) and the Water Quality Association (WQA) is2:
Degree of Hardness
Grains per Gallon (gpg) ppm (or mg/L) Soft

It is very important to know and understand the hardness of water in order to limit the damages
hardness does and to improve the treatments for the problems of Hardness. Hard Water can damage
household plumbing and other appliances; it decreases the efficiency of boilers, jets and tubes are

Illegal Immigration Issue
With the country moving towards a new administration and president, the country continues to have
unsolved problems. One of which is the immigration system due to the inflow of illegal immigrants.
Many individuals claim that it is best to capture these so called aliens and deport them back to their
country. However, individuals do not consider the current political turmoil that an illegal immigrant s
home country is facing. Illegal immigration is important because the country is persistently deporting
any illegal immigrants that they discovered. However, by just deporting them does not solve the issue,

According to The Effects of Immigration on the United States Economy , an article that focuses on the
effects of immigrants on the economy, regardless if they are documented or undocumented, they both
contribute to the federal budget. This reveals that illegal immigrants do not cause any negative effects,
instead, they overall contribute to the economy s well being. In addition, illegal immigrants do not
hindered or replace native born workers or reduce their wages over the long term ( The Effects of
Immigration ). This shows that illegal immigrants are not harming anyone or the country, which
questions why the government is still trying to deport the immigrants. The economy is not the only
one affected by illegal immigration, the families and children of illegal immigrants also are affected.
According to Cecilia Menjivar and Andrea Gomez Cervantes, who are the authors of The Effects of
Parental Undocumented Status on Families and Children, about 79% children of undocumented
parents were U.S. citizens. It reveals that there are many children who have undocumented parents
and may result in their parents deportation. In addition, the family would face poverty, labor

Use Of Handheld Cameras Changed The Way Of Police
The use of smartphone cameras changed the way that police were perceived as well. Accusations of
police brutality could now be supported with video evidence instead of just a victim s word against an
officer. While filming police during stops and quality of life policing can hold the officer accountable
in incidents of police brutality, cell phone video footage doesn t always tell the whole story. In August,
two Kansas police officers came under scrutiny after a 36 second video was posted on social media of
them roughly restraining a suspect on the ground (Hunter). However, the police s body cam and dash
cam footage told a different story: after the suspect, John Harrison was pulled over for not wearing a
seatbelt, the police discovered the smell of marijuana coming from his car, that he was driving with a
suspended license and had more than 20 warrants out for his arrest (Kiesling and Smith). The dash
cam video shows Harrison resisting arrest, attempting to flee (Hunter) and punching one of the police
officers (Kiesling and Smith). The police were found innocent and Harrison was put in jail for
outstanding warrants and is facing charges for driving with a suspended license, battery on a police
officer, and obstruction of justice (Hunter).

By 1993, the Banana Empire ceased to exist due to Panama Disease, ongoing labour issues, the rise of
new competition and the increased assertiveness of host country governments all contributed to the
growing intricacy of the industry. Nowadays, the modern banana farmer has been exposed to many
pesticides, which have led to adverse health conditions for the majority of workers but working
conditions and wages are on the rise currently. The introduction of fair trade bananas in 2004 was
fundamental in bettering the working conditions for farmers and labourers.

Financial Crisis And Its Effect On The Stock Crisis
BACKGROUND:
The Global Financial crisis started with the burst of US housing bubble, which peaked in 2006. The
main reason for this was the subprime lending, deregulation of the financial sector, off book financing
and underwriting practices. Loans were issued to the customers with poor credit rating thinking that
the price of houses will rise in the future and due to overvaluation. This resulted in decline in credit
availability, damaged investor faith, and reduced international trade and an impact on the stock
market. As European Union has high trade ties and financial ties with US, the European Union

A Behind-the-Scenes Look on How Organizations Are...
I ve spent the last 20 years in an organization that always had a job for me. I never had to interview for
any of my positions when I moved to a new assignment. Before I retired from the Air Force in 2012, I
took a Transition Assistance Program (TAP) class. This class went over in depth about preparing the
resume and how to interview but made no mention on how organizations use social media for
recruiting. As a volunteer for a non profit company, I ve also watched the employees in the HR
department struggle to find the right candidate for their administrative assistant position. For the last
six months or more, they have relied heavily on a rotating roster of temp agency workers while they
continue to interview potential candidates. In the meantime, HR employees are burden with extra
duties until the position is filled. The HR department used job boards to advertise the position, but

The Film Thelma And Louise
The film Thelma and Louise is in fact a feminist work in which women are empowered. The film
Thelma and Louise is most famous for its ending scene. The iconic scene of the two women kissing
and driving off the canyon into their death is present even today in pop culture and referred back by
those who liked it. Although the kiss in the scene is not a romantic kiss, it captured the love between
the two women, not a romantic homosexualised love, but a heteronormal sisterly type of love. Also,
their faces prove that they died happy, and chose to die not only because they have no other choice but
also since that way they are able to make a decision as to what happens to them and how they die. The

Nicole Keating, writes about the ending of the movie and its representations. She mentions the
Thunderbird s mirrors and their representation throughout the movie and most importantly the ending
(Keating, 103). Throughout the movie when the women look at the mirrors they do not see
themselves, instead they are searching for who they are, searching though the crimes they have
committed and the people they have met. During the final scene, however, they are no longer looking
at the mirror, they are looking at each other. Viewers see the mirror, with what the women are leaving
behind, It is significant that this mirror, the site of female looking and self reflection throughout the
film [ . . . ] is lost just before the two of them expire (Keating, 103). They no longer need to look for
who they are, their life is fulfilled and they do not care that they are headed to their death because they
chose to die untroubled instead of going back to a submissive life in a society where women are not
allowed to have independence. When Louise presses the gas to drive into the canyon, happy music
plays in the background, and the women are smiling at each other, as if they are content with the life
they lived. As the car floats over the canyon, the screen fades to white without actually showing the
crash and the death of the women. Lastly, we see all their joyful moments played back, in such a way
that viewers understand that both Thelma and Louise loved their lives and did not care that they were
going to die. Their death is not a punishment for their agency. Their kiss and hand holding represents
their friendship and it is the simple reassurance that their life is fulfilled. They chose this life and did
everything that could to die happy. They shared a friendship, and they cared for each other in a hetero
normal way. The love and care they felt for each other is more than all the men in their life provided

The Merger of Allianz Group and Dresdner Bank
1. Introduction In our days mergers and acquisitions are a predominant feature of the international
business system as companies attempt to exploit new market opportunities and to strengthen their
market positions. Each year sets a new record for the total value of mergers and acquisitions and
nearly every day new announcements are made in the business newspapers. In the literature one finds
a large number of explanations for the occurrence of mergers and acquisitions. Sometimes, these
explana tions are also applicable to related forms of interindustrial links such as joint ventures or
strategic alliances. Therefore it is necessary to define the term merger and acquisition as it will be used
throughout this seminar paper.

Conglomerate and vertical mergers help to strengthen the market power by discouraging potential
entrants. The monopoly theory played a dominant role in the past, especially in the first great merger
wave in the U.S. between 1887 and 1904. Today most of the horizontal mergers are too small to confer
monopoly power, because larger acqui sitions fall under intense antitrust scrutiny. In the industrial
strategy and organization literature mergers are often explained in terms of synergies and/or
efficiencies. The efficiency theory is based on the assumption that the combined firms are more
profitable than the companies operating separately because of the operational, managerial and
financial synergies. Operational synergies include economies of scale, economies of scope and
economies of experience. The valuation or information theory explains a merger from a financial
instead of a strategic perspective and assumes that the current market price of a company does not
reflect the true value. The company which buys an undervalued firm believes it can manage the target
company better than the current management. Corporate buying and selling activities are traced back
to the conditions of financial markets. Presently globalization is the key feature of the new
competitive landscape within which mergers are taking place. However, it is impor tant to keep in

Cities of Salt by Abdul Rahman Munif
Short Essay The Post Colonial Arabic Novel Cities of Salt Cities of Salt has often been read as at once
an elegy for a disfigured space and society, and a chronicle of its transformation. How does Munif
represent the encounter with and effects of global capital and its arrival? How are tradition, traditional
social ties on the one hand, and the encounter with the foreign other represented? What are the
limitations and potential problems of attempting to write such a work? Elaborate! Abdelrahman
Munif, a Jordanian born Saudi novelist, wrote a novel called Cities of Salt . It is a monumental novel
that tells the story of the discovery of oil. Encountering the vicious arrival of the global, political and
economic modernity to an unnamed Persian Gulf kingdom is the main point of Munif in this novel.
Munif described the migration of the villagers as their traditional lands are destroyed, and their way of
living is thrown into disarray by the foreigners Americans, through invasion of modern technology,
cultural gaps, and a whole new bunch of the local economy. He has exercised an unconventional
format in novel by declining a clear protagonist or even its mixture. Leading characters of the novel in
its first dozen chapters are gone by the final third of the book, despite the formation of main
characters. The valley that is destroyed in the beginning and later the town of Harran that goes from a
backwater to booming oil valley or town. Where the novel s all fiction

Lord Of The Flies Corruptal Analysis
The Lord of the Flies written by William Golding is a popular novel that deals with many themes. The
theme I will talk about is how humans and human nature can easily be corrupted by surrounding
influences and themselves. Simon is corrupted by the natural environment and the nature of people
around him. In contrast, there is Jack who was only corrupted by his obsessions. Also, Ralph became
morally corrupted after a combination of spending time with Jack s group and being by himself. The
Lord of the Flies shows that anyone can be corrupted by circumstance especially if left alone. Simon
is corrupted by uncontrollable forces like nature and the actions of the people around him. In the
beginning of The Lord of the Flies, Simon is the positive and helpful character: Simon found for [the
litteuns] the fruit they could not reach, pulled off the choicest from up in the foliage, passed them back
down to the endless, outstretched hands (Golding, 57). In this quote, Simon helps out the littleuns
which none of the other biguns on the island do, showing his kindness and compassion. However,
later in the novel, that kindness and compassion is eroded when he is laughed at for his honest
suggestion: What s the dirtiest thing there is? .... Simon s effort fell about him in ruins; the laughter
beat him cruelly and he shrank away ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Simon split from the group, he experienced the most corruption culminating with an imaginary
Lord of the Flies. Jack was the physical form of the Lord of the Flies, after his obsession with hunting
leads him to become the most corrupted on the island. After spending too much time hunting with
Jack and being by himself, Ralph started to slide down a slippery slope culminating with a brutal
assault on another survivor. In conclusion, The Lord of the Flies shows that the world of children is
not as innocent as it

  • 2. Compassion Fatigue Analysis Paper . This exploratory study used a cross sectional survey method (Hopper, Craig, Janvir, Wetsel, Reimels, Anderson, Greenvilee Clemson, 2010, p. 422). Compassion satisfaction and fatigue subscales were measured using the Professional Quality of Life, using ProQOL R IV instrument (Hopper, et al. 2010, p. 423). Despite study limitations which were small sample size, authors concluded that recognising the signs and symptoms, and identifying best practice interventions and raising awareness, will lead to the development of ongoing support programs for hospital nurses (Hopper, et al., 2010, p. 427). Longitudinal data was collected to determine the efficacy of resilience program at three and six month intervals (Potter et al., 2013). The longitudinal data in the study reported statistically significant results of decreased overall compassion fatigue through implementation of a compassion fatigue intervention program (Potter et al., 2013). A pilot study of a compassion fatigue resiliency program with thirteen oncology nurses showed promising results. The program interventions were ... • 3. Analysis Of The Letter To His Father Franz Kafka wrote this Letter to his Father in November 1919, but it was never delivered. After writing the letter by hand, he got it typed, and it is not known whether he wanted the contents of the letter to reach the public eye at the time of writing or not. When Kafka asked his friend Max Brod to destroy his writings at his death, and Max Brod s refusal to do so brought them to the world, this letter too was part of what he received, which was eventually published in its entirety in 1953. The Letter to his Father is a multi generic exercise in that it couples autobiography with the form of the letter, and relies on the strategies of the family chronicle to present perspectives on both the speaker and the subject through an ironic, critical lens. This letter is also one of the most accessible documentary that we have on Kafka himself, whose self scrutiny and analysis off his own situation as a son offers us insights into the way he saw his growth as an individual in circumstance that he considered difficult. As a literary example, on the other hand, the latter makes use of several conventions such as first person narratorial voice (for the impression of authenticity), anecdote (for historical contextualization), and flashback (for reference). At the same time, the letter is a long document with a focussed subject where the addressee (his father) is as much the occasion for the writing, as he is the protagonist whose and mode of functioning form part of what Kafka deals ... Believed by many writers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, society corrupts and conforms the individual, and it is the individual who breaks from consistency and conformity that is most free. Hester Prynne, a woman punished for adultery, is isolated by herself and her community, but breaks free from strict Puritan society. Roger Chillingworth, the husband of Hester, isolates himself which leads to the destruction of himself and the community. Hester Prynne and Roger Chillingworth experience different types of isolation, and while Hester chooses to transcend Puritan laws and live a purposeful life regardless of how it affects her, Chillingworth decides to become infatuated with the sin of Arthur Dimmesdale and live in revenge outside of Puritan ... Hester Prynne s isolation, though primarily inflicted by the community, was also inflicted by herself, and in her isolation, Hester became an integral community member at the cost of her femininity and passion. Hester is primarily isolated by her community as she is forced to wear the scarlet letter for the rest of her life to separate her as an adulteress. This was common practice for colony members in Plymouth in 1694 though typically a whipping or death was the punishment (Hawthorne 220). The isolation caused by her community is not destructive to herself, and in a way, is beneficial for her soul. Using her needlework as an outlet for her creativity, Hester provided clothes for the poor, embroidered clothing, and earned back her reputation. Not only would the A come to mean Able, but it also gave herself a sense of belonging. According to Jennifer McClinton Temple, such isolation leaves that person nothing but he or she s mind and therefore inspiring creativity (McClinton Temple). Being left to her own faculties, Hester was able to think freely and apart from typical Puritan ideas. According to Hawthorne, for a Puritan, and a woman no less, to have broken free from Puritan conformity would have held to be a deadlier crime than that stigmatized by the scarlet letter in the eyes of the Puritan magistrates (Hawthorne ... Among these conflicts the concept of what to do with the holy land has very different perspectives among Reuven s Reform Judaism and Danny Hasidic Judaism. The Relationship Among Aboriginal Population, Age and Shelter Costs Course: SOC222H Professor s Name Riva Lieflander Name: Yingjun Li Student ID: 1000677957 Date: 04/20/2015 Introduction The 2006 Census Public Use Microdata File (PUMF) involved a total of 844,476 people. Participants were randomly selected in a manner that represented all social characteristics that existed among Canadians. Technically, it was estimated that the number represented only 2.7% of the Canadian population. It is also on record that the 2006 PUMF involved a total of 123 population variables, of which 83% (102) represented individual variables, while the remaining 17% (21) of all variables used represented family, dwelling, and household variables. The purpose of this research is to determine how the cost of shelters and age distribution affects the Aboriginal people of Canada in relation to the 2006 Census Public Use Microdata File (PUMF) on individuals. The research employs both age distribution and shelter cost as major variables affecting the Aboriginal population. The research will conduct an inferential statistical analysis on three major variables: Aboriginal population, shelter cost, and age. For the purpose of this research, both age and shelter costs will be employed as independent variables relating to the overall Aboriginal population, which is the dependent variable. In the 1920s, broadened public interest and the burgeoning of the credit industry led to the first waves of democratization in the higher education arena (Kimball, 2011). The subsequent professionalization and a growing pattern of stratification in the admissions marketplace have seen institutions of all types using increasingly sophisticated mechanisms to attract qualified applicants (Duffy and Goldberg, 1998). With the exception of the eligibility based model which champions entitlement and open access , the other three models are selective in nature in that students are compared against one another on the basis of certain criteria before an admissions decision is made. The most common and basic philosophy adopted by institutions is the performance based model, which judges applicants based on their demonstrated performance prior to college. This model is advanced through two approaches, meritocracy and character. The meritocracy approach views acceptance into an institution as a reward for prior academic achievement, while the character approach focuses on personal qualities such as resilience and civic virtue (the College Board, 2002). In addition, many colleges also assess students based on their ability to benefit from higher education. The two approaches under this theme include the enhancement approach and the mobilization approach. The former is intended to identify and nurture talent while the latter promotes social and economic mobility (the College Board, 2002). These approaches attempt to contextualize previous accomplishments in light of the student s circumstances and accord value to unrealized potential. The final philosophical model evaluates students based on their ability to contribute to the institution and society if admitted, both in the short run and long run. In the short run, ... Even now, despite the movement to liberate women from stereotypical gender roles, women are still seen as the inferior gender that is discriminated against in society. As suggested by the popular Barbie doll created by Mattel, the idealized image of a woman in our patriarchal society is one who takes care of the home and is flawlessly beautiful with perfect skin, long legs, small waist, and slender figure. • 13. The Importance Of Pyrite Recovery From Gangue Gangue is one of the largest accumulating solid, and is particularly rich in pyrite. Therefore, pyrite recovery from gangue is not only significant for the environmental protection, but also for the development and production of chemicals. The dry separation methods, leading to the decreased waste and cost effectiveness, have received significant attention of many scholars. In this study, the vibration energy was introduced to promote the separation of particles. The interactions and effect of comparison of the gas velocity, vibration intensity, and bed height were investigated. Moreover, the sulfur migration for pyrite recovery from the gangue has been studied by several analytical techniques. The results show that the segregation efficiency was directly related to the interaction between various factors. After the separation, the sulfur content of the concentrates of 6+3, 3+1, and 1+0.5 mm was 37.94, 35.43, and 30.61%, respectively. The sulfur segregation s standard deviation (SSSD) was 0.70, achieving a satisfactory separation efficiency, indicating that pyrite was the foremost material in the concentrate, and S and Fe migrated in the form of pyrite during the separation process, indicating that pyrite could be effectively enriched by the dry method of vibration fluidized bed after the separation. This prompted the Communist party to take over on April 14, 1975, with the view of creating a society where no one was exploited and everyone was equal. Journalist, Elizabeth Becker reports about the new national anthem, which showcases the patriotism of the Party. ...We are uniting to edify splendid and democratic new Kampuchea and new society with equality and justice... • 24. Gender Based Differences in the Workforce 1. Introduction With regard to the International Labour Organization (ILO), labour market participation is influenced by different factors. Relatively high unemployment rates on a worldwide scale leads to countries introducing specific methods in order to increase participation rates, which in turn stimulates economic growth. One of the main focuses is to attract more females into the working world. Nonetheless, since institutional and sociological forces, as well as labour market forces still persist, high variations on female decision making processes of whether to enter the labour market or not can be observed. The following essay will undertake a deep analysis of gender based differences. It will be examined how participation rates of women are influenced and to what extent they have improved. Furthermore, current development trends in terms of migration and labour mobility of youth and adults will be critically analysed. In order to achieve an extensive understanding of this discussion, the situation of the European Union (EU) as well as other countries will be taken into account with regard to the time period 1990 until the present. 2. • 26. The Effects Of Water On Natural Water Essay Water is one of the most important resources that earth can offer. Indeed, water is essential to the survival of all living things. Pure water must be colorless, tasteless and odorless. However, sometimes, natural water can contain impurities. Indeed, dissolved solute coming minerals in rocks and soils are often present in natural water. The cations Mg2+and Ca2+ are the most common dissolved compounds found in natural water. The presence of the dissolved Cations Ca2+ and Mg2+ (and other polyvalent cations) gives natural waters chemical properties that are often evaluated as hardness.1 Water is hard when it contains a high concentration of cations Ca2+ and Mg2+ and it is considered soft when it contains a low concentration of cations Ca2+ and Mg2+. Water Hardness is often measured in Concentrations in Molarity (M), parts per million (ppm/ mg per L) and grain per gallon (gpg). The degree of hardness standard as established by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (S 339) and the Water Quality Association (WQA) is2: Degree of Hardness Grains per Gallon (gpg) ppm (or mg/L) Soft 10.5 180 It is very important to know and understand the hardness of water in order to limit the damages hardness does and to improve the treatments for the problems of Hardness. In addition, illegal immigrants do not hindered or replace native born workers or reduce their wages over the long term ( The Effects of Immigration ). This shows that illegal immigrants are not harming anyone or the country, which questions why the government is still trying to deport the immigrants. In August, two Kansas police officers came under scrutiny after a 36 second video was posted on social media of them roughly restraining a suspect on the ground (Hunter). During the final scene, however, they are no longer looking at the mirror, they are looking at each other.
